The problem affecting the main University homepage and some other related services has been resolved.

Several emails have been sent to students and staff in order to harvest login usernames, passwords, bank account details and other sensitive information. If you have supplied your details, please change your password and contact the IT Helpline immediately, as your username and password are likely to be compromised. Examples of the emails are below:

Bursary phishing attempt, 20 February

An email designed to harvest Student Loan Company usernames and passwords has been sent to some University addresses. It purports to come from University of Nottingham [itservice@nottingham.ac.uk] and has the subject line: "Nottingham student grant". The recipient is asked the following: "It is my pleasure to inform you that the university has been awarded funds for undergraduate study support by the government. All undergraduate students studying on a full time course are entitled to this grant. To ensure you receive your grant, you are required to submit your details via the link below:"

Below is a link to a web portal that has been mocked up to look similar to a Direct Gov Intranet site.

Access to the web portal has been blocked from all machines on the University staff and student networks, but please be aware that it will still be accessible from computers outside our jurisdiction. If you believe that you may have already supplied your username and password to this site, we would advise you to reset your password as soon as possible, and to contact phishing@slc.co.uk so the SLC can investigate your account further.

Advisory: Dear University of Nottingham Student

An email with the subject line 'Important Nottingham University Information' was sent to students. It is addressed 'Dear University of Nottingham Student' and states:
'Due to recent update in our database you are required to verify your intranet login ..' It then directs the recipient to an externally hosted web page to give away username and password details.
