Mihir and his Bicycle

Mihir was riding his new bicycle, running from one side to another in the hall, running it as fast as he can, making all sort of sounds that could resemble the car or a motorbike but was as loud as a fire truck. His mom instructed to leave the hall and go into garden as it was too much for the poor hall. He rushed to garden, it is all same for him, a room or a garden, everything is a play ground.

I could hear the same sound from outside, running, laughing and screaming in joy.

Then after a while it stopped. I looked outside the window to make sure things are alright.

I saw him struggling with the bicycle which was now stuck into mud. poor boy! it was raining in the morning. I smiled watching him trying hard to get it out so that he can break this peace again with all different kind of noises he can make.

He was trying hard but could not get his beloved bicycle again. After a while I could see the frustration out of his now-not-so-innocent eyes. He screamed hard, again, then again. As it could help to get the cycle out. He looked into window and realizing I am watching, cried his loungs out to get my attention.

This act made me realize, we all do the same when our beloved cycles stuck somewhere, yielding nothing what we need.

Let the cycle be a person or a thing or may be a job you want to get finished, We scream for it, we cry, we make a scene to get attention from people we think were ours to get help or just to be poured by sympathy.

Sometimes it work, but when it doesn't we blame everything. we whine, we weep. but we don't accept things as they are. off-course we don't realize our beloved needs might have brains of their own and has their own beloved needs, ever growing needs, need that can not be satisfied.

Reality Horror in Indian Television

The whole new era in Indian television is being started by horror reality shows, in which participants specially celebrities will be left alone in haunted places.
MTV’s Girls Night Out (with a tag line ab Phategi ) and Bindas channel’s The Chair (hosted by Meiyang Chang, who himself look spooky ) are being broadcasted.
Fiction based serial which has been on air since 15 years AAHAT is also planning to debut in reality show by leaving some celebrities in a haunted place for its 15 years celebration.
Rakhi ka insaf could also be considered as horror.

Well for me the biggest horror TV show was “Rakhi ka Swayamvar”. In which she was suppose to give nightmares by marring one of the prey gathered (they were men and not dogs), but by gods grace he emancipated.

Science channels named National Geographic and Discovery channel has been showing documentaries on paranormal effects, but the major difference between them and these reality shows is Discovery never leaves their viewers in fear but gives a reasoning based on science and psychology.

Guess what these horror reality shows are doing?. They leave you with messages like “the camera went dead for no reason” or “the Girl participant just vanished in air and then suddenly appeared in other room”. Was not it enough that they also show clearly fake fear? What are they trying to prove with this?

Remember the time when all the TV channels were showing Ekta kapoor made drama serials, in which all the mother-in-laws were only to terrorise their daughter-in-laws. and the daughter-in-law’s main work to keep marrying and divorcing. I hope these horror reality shows will see the same fate soon and get vanished.

Fell in love With Firefox, happily married to Chrome

When Netscape Navigator died It gave birth to Mozilla Suit, and when the Mozilla Suit was taking its last breath Firefox was born. Firefox’s close relatives are Seamonkey, thunderbird, Sunbird and some other Animal named free and open-source softwares. ( If anybody knows why all of them are named after animals please let me know )

It was Mozilla Firefox who showed the world that what a web browser could do and hence started the mighty browser war. It was the salvation for Internet explorer victims.

Firefox’s power is its extensibility. Even today nobody beats Firefox when it comes to add-ons.
But it has became cluttered with lots of tool bars. Well there are some add-ons and themes that can be used to hide toolbars and give it a sleek look like chrome, but add-ons are memory hungry and will make your browser more snailious ( it is a word, right? anyways what I mean here is slow like a snail ).

The biggest irritation with Firefox is the start-up time. It feels like ages and you might want to pull your hairs in that time or may want to get a manicure or pedicure .
I have tried Firefox 4 beta-4, and its not better then Firefox 3.6.9, Instead you will not be able to use most of the add-ons, because Firefox 4 is in beta state and add-on updates are the soul responsibility of their individual creators. So without add-ons it is lame.

On the other hand Google Chrome is going from good to better.

The Google Chrome and Chromium (A open source project which is behind Google Chrome ) were started as a minimalistic looking browser with fast browsing experience, but It lacked the extensibility. So I did admire it but never used it as my primary browser.

But two years after the the Chrome’s appearance, Today I see it as the fastest browser with sleek look and a huge Library of Extensions. Chrome is attracting more and more programmers now and extension count is growing very fast.
Plus Chrome works fine with lots of extensions installed and doesn’t go unresponsive.

I will be writing a post about Google Chrome extension equivalent with Firefox Add-ons. So check back soon.

My Weird Dream: War of the Worlds

I and my younger brother were on terrace looking down on street, suddenly we saw some weird clouds spreading right above our roofs height, we both got amazed as we never seen any cloud so near that we could touch.

After a while they covered whole sky , and then it started to glow.
“It must be lightning !!! Run ” I shouted.
I ran for stairs and my bro followed me hurriedly, as soon as we were on the staircase door we shut it quickly , last thing I saw from that door was a sharp red-orangish light outside.

“What kind of clouds they are?” I asked but I knew he cant answer it.
When we got inside we found our mom in very worried gesture, she was not able talk but she pointed towards my elder brother who was mounting on our car.

I ran to him and asked “Where are you going? Can’t you see the weird weather?”
“That’s why I am going, there is a battle started” He snapped.
“What? what kind of battle?” I asked but he was gone.

I told my younger brother to get into basement “It’s not going to be smooth here”. I stayed in the living room and asked my mom to collect everything edible we can eat while we live in basement.

“It will be much more safer there” I said. She rushed into kitchen and I headed for store-room to get whatever eatable is in there. when I was coming back I saw a weird red-orange cross flying in the sky which was shooting some kind of red-orangish laser.

I am in living room again now , and what is this!! , I heard something nice and familiar !! A ice-cream tricycle on road !!

“What is he doing in this weather when those horrifying crosses are floating in sky?” I mumbled.
When it came closer I realised that it’s not a man who is riding tricycle and the same red-orange cross was mounted on its top. I ducked in a fraction of sec and hid myself behind the sofa.

“Oh god what is that thing? I should have closed all the windows and doors” I thought.

This is the time when my dog ran outside towards that ice-cream tricycle. I wanted to shout to stop him but it could risk mine and my mom’s life. I felt a deep sorrow thinking that I am going to lose him, at this moment my mom came from kitchen looking at me, I stopped her by hand signal , she quickly hid behind the door.

I was hoping the same sound of that red-orangish laser to burst my dog into ashes but, the ‘thing’ on ice-cream tricycle just ignored him and moved ahead.

That is the time when I heard my dogs woof behind my bed. “Thank god it was a dream” I said getting down from my bed to scoop my dog up in my arms.

Writers Note :
Weird dreams are quite normal thing to see but sometimes I see really astonishing dreams. Well, I have seen the movie ‘War of the Words’ but it was around 5-6 years back, and in near past I did not see anything which have anything to do with aliens.
Well whatever the reason was I woke up sweating, so its obvious that the dream was weird and quite scary for me.

How To Bypass Firefox 4 Beta’s Incompatible Add-on Error and use them anyway

Firefox 4 beta is out but you can't use your favorite add-ons yet because most of add-ons have not been updated. this tutorial will tell you how you can still use them.

1. The Easy and Safe way.

Download the extension named add-on compatibility reporter 0.5 from here.
This will enable add-ons . You can also help Mozilla by reporting which add-on still works and which need attention.

2. The hack

Basically what you need to do is:
- Go to about:config (enter in browser bar)
- Add the key ( rightclick, new key") "extensions.checkCompatibility" (=>boolean)
- set to "false" by clicking on it
- restart firefox

Important Note: Most of the add-ons will work smoothly, but few like Greasemonkey and fast youtube downloader can make your browser unstable by opening endless windows or by showing extra big status-bar. so its better to disable them and hope that they will be updated soon by their respective owners.

Who Will Win ! Chrome , Firefox or Opera

I Installed Opera 10.54 and Firefox 4 today for review ( on usefulness and looks and not a technical review), Already had IE (and who doesn't!) and Firefox 3.6 on my PC .

So here it goes on different aspects:

Space utilization:
All the software are nice in looks. Firefox is going quite a Chrome way in looks and so does the Opera, but Firefox has miss-understood the tab on top thing.Windows 7 style toolbar button is present on top-left (on title-bar) but the whole space next to it is wasted, Chrome and Opera are better in space utilization to give user maximum space for page viewing.

old style menubar is not present in Firefox (you can access it by pressing alt) but statusbar is present by default, eating space. Only Crome is better then Firefox in this because Opera too have a status bar cum service buttons present.

Smooth Scrolling:
Opera beats both Firefox and Chrome on this in-fact it scrolls like a charm. Both Chrome and Firefox are bumpy when it comes to scrolling a long page.

Add-ons:
Opera lacks in useful add-ons, it does have bunch of add-ons but I found none of them useful. so it is not useful for a power users.

There was a time when Chrome did not have add-ons, but now you can find nicely crafted addons for Chrome.

But Firefox is the browser that wins on add-ons, you name it Firefox has it. It has millions of useful add-ons there to please you.
Note: Firefox 4 is a pre-beta release. so it doesn't have any supported add-ons yet , but once it is graduated you will be able to use all your favorite add-ons.

Bookmark Sync(on S60):
Opera provides you a way to sync both your PC and mobile bookmarks through Opera links( a web based sync service) which no other browser provide, because we don't have Firefox or Chrome for s60 yet.

however with Nokia OVI suit you can sync your mobile bookmarks (s60 browser's and not Opera's) with IE and Firefox (it crashes with Firefox). s60's default browser is itself not a good option to browse web on your phone.

At Last:
So if you are not a power users and use your browser only for surfing sites, I suggest Chrome or Opera ( Opera is better if you use Opera mobile or Opera mini on your phone ), and if you want more power then just to browse then go for Firefox.

Open the command prompt (DOS prompt)
From the command prompt type: ipconfig /all
If the information scrolls off the screen you can type "ipconfig /all|more"
Find the MAC address of network adapter. If this is a wired connection look under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:. If this is a wireless look under Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:.

Locate the number next to Physical Address. It will be something like: 00-07-E9-54-60-50. Example: ipconfig /all:

Hack: Portable Firefox

Goal Of the Tutorial: To make a portable Firefox folder that you can carry or access from both windows and Linux.
I hate it when i have to install same things at many places, same is with Firefox bookmarks and add-ons.
I am having a system with both windows and Linux and I work on both as I please.
but Installing same add-ons and bookmarks in different places is not a good idea.
I found out that you can make Firefox to use a user specified profile folder.
profile folder is the place where Firefox save Your add-ons , bookmarks, cache and even history.
So I decided to use only one Firefox profile folder.

In Windows:--------------
what you have to do is to make a folder ,give it any name as u like.

Make a batch file named "Firefox.bat" (again u can name it whatever u like with extension bat )
put the following line in it

REM Firefox start batch file
\Firefox.exe -Profile

Tip: You can now copy your Firefox folder ,this profile folder and the batch file to a USB drive and run your same Firefox everywhere you go. Just change the address of firefox.exe

replace "" with folder address where u have installed/Copied Firefox , usually "c:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox"
and with full address of your profile folder you just have created

save and close it.
double click it to start Firefox..

In Linux:
----------
mount your windows drive (USB or HDD) in which u have your profile folder

make a launcher on desktop

fill the command entry as
"Firefox --profile "

replace with full address of your profile folder

double click it to run Firefox...
Hurrah!! now you don't have to install your same add-on, bookmark in two different places ...
Caution: it would be better if u have same Firefox in both of the places otherwise it will check for compatibilities every time.
