Should You Upgrade to QuickBooks 2012?

As small business owners, we often look at any upgrade and wonder if it is really necessary. The jump from QuickBooks 2009 to 2010 was very good, while I found the jump from 2010 to 2011 was not quite worth the money. I am happy to report that QuickBooks 2012 is well worth the upgrade.

IT Professionals have Computer Problems Too

For the last 4 years I have been using a desktop computer that has been upgraded piece by piece. A few of these upgrades came out of necessity because of failing components. Over the last couple months I have been dealing with a freezing and crashing computer, I knew the days of my desktop were numbered.

With the new problems I was experiencing, there were only a couple of components I had not yet upgraded. My primary hard drive and the motherboard. Upgrading the motherboard would have meant upgrading my CPU and RAM so I decided to go with the less expensive replacement, the Hard Drive.

I purchased a Solid State Drive (OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 120GB) knowing that it could be used with a future system. I installed it, re-installed Windows and everything ran fine for a couple months.

Just as I was about to get started on a new web design for a client, my motherboard stopped working. Like most of my clients the timing couldn’t have been worse. It was just after all stores closed.

The next morning, as soon as the stores were open I picked up an Asus G74x laptop, featuring 8GB DDR3 RAM, Intel i7 processor and 2 hard drives. On the way back to my home office I stopped and doubled the RAM. Once home, I replaced one of the laptop’s hard drives with the OCZ solid state I had acquired earlier.

Since that day…I have had the best workstation ever! It performs better than any desktop / laptop I have come across yet. I am able to run all of the virtual machines that I require when working on a client’s website (a total of 5) and not experience any slowness.

So, just like my clients, IT Professionals also have computer problems. We are also just as overjoyed when they are solved and we can continue working productively.

WP Scheduled Styles released

Development of the latest WordPress plugin has just completed. WP Scheduled Styles allows a WordPress user to schedule the addition of CSS files. Scheduling these CSS files enables users to make minor modifications to their theme during seasons or special promotions without making major changes to their theme.

QR Codes

Recently you may have seen some bar codes that look really different. There are a few different kinds, but they are all matrix or 2 dimensional bar codes. The example in the picture here is known as a Quick Response Code (QR Code for short). QR codes are not new, they were developed in Japan during the mid 1990s but they only recently have been becoming popular in the Americas.

WordPress Plugin Reaches 40k Downloads

2 years ago I created my first WordPress plugin in an attempt to simplify my web development. I figured I would help myself out, and perhaps a few others in creating a ready-to-use PNG transparency fix for IE6…because it is still being used out there!

I just checked the download stats at WordPress.org for the plugin and noticed that we have passed the 40,000 download mark! I’m quite pleased that my first plugin is doing so well.

Multiple Monitors Add Productivity

Another Re-Organization

When the ITegrity Solutions website was created, the content from 2 previous websites were merged into one. Because they were two different sites with different focuses, the merging didn’t result in the best experience.

Today, a lot of the information has been organized under our Technical Blog. Within the technical blog you can find tips and information that you can use to improve the way you use technology on a regular basis.
