We took Charlie to the Loblolly Model Train display at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot. It's free, it's cool and he got a hat and a sticker! Before Charlie knew about the trains. Look at those eyes! Those are "OH MY GOSH TRAINS" eyes. This one is the Polar Express, complete with the disappearing hobo on top of the last cart and shadow images in the windows of the forgotten toys cart

If you have even bathed a child, you know that they pee in the bath. Probably every time. Charlie does it almost instantly. I used to hover around him with a little scooper so I could catch it and dump it in the toilet. Now we use the potty chair before baths, but do not be fooled. He pees in there; I'm sure of it. There was one time, I don't even remember how old he was. He was walking, but not

Charlie and I went to see the Veterans Day parade in Nacogdoches. These are pictures from before the parade. Based on his "running off" record for the morning, I was too scared to let go of him during the parade to take pictures. Imagine him holding a tiny flag with one hand and waving wildly with the other, and staring, speechless, at the marching bands, horses and people as he took it all in.&

Like, Imagine that caps lock is a euphemism for large wooden letters that are modge-podged (real verb) with magazine cut outs from Seventeen Magazine, like we did it in 1992. That's how cool. This is how it works: I'll write my question, you know, the one I thought right before I found COOL STUFF on the internet. Then I'll show you the

This morning, Charlie was watching what we call "the caterpillar show". It's a short cartoon of a set of stories by Eric Carle, starting with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The second story in the cartoon is called Papa, Please Get me the Moon. The little girl in this story is named Monica. Charlie usually waves at the caterpillar in Hungry Caterpillar and the cat in Papa, Please Get Me the Moon,

A few weeks ago, I realized how badly we need to touch up the paint on our walls. There are scuff marks everywhere, pencil marks from hanging frames, just the random marks that everyone has. Except that we have never touched up the paint before, except in Charlie's room, so that's, what, seven years of scuff marks? Yes, yes it is. Side note: I will always have to count how long we have lived in

Here's the story: Girl loves food. Girl eats whatever food she wants and is happy. One day, Girl gets sick. Girl gets tummy aches. Girl gets hives. Girl has asthma attacks. Girl bloats up like a balloon. Turns out, Girl has food allergies. To everything. Girl cries.  Girl starts a rotation diet. You're telling me that my parents FORGOT to send thank you notes?  It's been FOUR MONTHS! Do the grandmothers know about this? I love all of my presents. Charlie has invented a new move: The Diving Board Nestle into the parent's lap, so that they think you are trying to sleep on your stomach while being held. They will be distracted by the cuteness. Position your feet flat against the parent's thigh, then push off quickly and dive over the armrest into the floor. Do not make noise when you do this, or you will fail.

The other day, I walked into Charlie's room to wake him up/in response to the crying. He was standing in his crib, holding on to the railing. He smiled at me, I walked over to push to drapes back and open lift the shades, and he said to me, "Mornin'," with a little country accent. I thought, where did he get THAT? What happened to the G? Surely I say the G when I say Morning?
