I am not sure how this happened but we now have 8 cats 😅 😂 Please say hello to the following babies:

Here's Kumo of course. Nugget's beloved sidekick. Now at 6 years old, he is now the most senior cat in the house.

Moon was the resident basement parking lot kitty at my mom's place. We rescued her last year when her safety was threatened by the administration. She is a bit feral but has adjusted well to living with other cats.

Garlic was one of the kitties that we would feed in front of the Mini Stop Convenience store near our place. He is the sweetest and is very adventurous.

Juno (Siamese) and Squid were both adopted from my mom's friend. These babies are super playful and have the healthiest appetite in the bunch 😅

Marty, named after Family Mart Convenience store where he came from. More about Marty in my next post :)

Mommy cat, Cobi and baby Obi. Both kitties were rescued along with Marty. These 3 cats have been medicated and are doing so much better now 💗 Stay tuned for more cat updates 😅

The Offbeat Cat at Belle and Cat's Sunday Fair

Hi meows! The Offbeat Cat (me) was a part of Belle and Cat's Sunday fair last July 27. It was a super fun event filled with art, crafts, handmade items (like leather bags, jewelry) and snacks! They also served the best and crunchiest okay ever! I think I had about 5... Lol

So happy that my meow stickers sold fast!

More busy days ahead

It was an extremely busy week... So busy that we did not even feel the weekend! Right now I feel that I need to be extra productive since it is a Monday again.

aftermath of a whole week of crafting!

The first task on my list is to clean the house :D I joined an art fair (more on that in another post) and because of this our tiny home has been littered with all my stuff! Next on the list is catching up on all my e-mail messages and pending projects.

But before I get started I am rewarding myself with a Kitkat break! I wish that after this break I will be able to unlock the power of being super productive so I can finish all the things on my to do list! It would be great to have that skill! I also need to be focused and avoid distraction (eeps, good bye internet... and cake walk... haha).

Even my Trikky Kitty agrees that I need a KitKat break (or breaks). Happy Monday folks!

Outlet Shopping at Robinsons StarMills

Have you been to Robinson's StarMills? It is ~~a bit~~ out of the way for us Ortigas folks so we never had plans of visiting. I did hear about the outlet stores there but then again San Fernando, Pampanga is quite far from our home so yeah, no plans were ever made :D

We finally got to visit a couple of weeks ago. My mom wanted to check out the outlet stores (and I also had an errand nearby). Getting there was easy - just go straight NLEX and then take the San Fernando exit.

Our first stop was the Guess store. Most items are at 50% off. My mom was able to buy a shirt for just p400... half the price of the Guess shirt (same style but different color) she bought on sale at Duty Free!

Shoes, belts and bags are on sale too! Nothing interesting for meow though :D

Our next stop was the Mango Outlet. I was surprised to see discounts up to 80% here!

Dresses at P625!

Some sizes are not available though but I am sure that you will find something that you like. They also have coats, shoes, bags, belts and other accessories on sale.

I liked this colorful bead cuff but decided not to buy it because I have so many accessories collecting dust at home :D

My mom ended up getting 7 items for just p1000! Some clothes even have extra discount when you get to the cashier.

Our last stop was the People Are People store where I got these awesome alien shirts for just p190 each :D

War of the Worlds Anniversary and Alien history + timeline :D There were still many stores (Toys R Us, All Flip Flops, Nike, Adidas and others) but we did not get to visit anymore since we were in a hurry to get on the road before rush hour. Not sure when we will be back but we will definitely drop by again if we are in the area.

Let's go to Barasoain Church

We decided to make an impromptu trip to Barasoain church after seeing several signs along the highway. We all thought that it will be a quick stop over since we assumed that it was just near the exit... Of course we were all wrong. As it turns out the church is quite far from the exit! It was traffic too since the roads leading there are small and congested (due to several road works). But the side trip was definitely worth it despite all those setbacks :D

It was nice to finally see this historic church up close! I really wish I had a 10 peso bill to compare it to :D

The wooden door is decorated with intricate carvings.

It is fascinating to think that so many historic events happened here - The first Philippine congress, drafting of the Malolos constitution and the declaration of the first Philippine republic. It was also General Aguinaldo's temporary home. Not sure where he stayed though... I also can't imagine how it must be to live in a church :D

I noticed the all seeing eye on the altar. There is a small cafe and a museum in the church compound but sadly it was closed that day (Mondays closed). The cafe caretaker recommended that we drop by Bahay na Tisa (literally translates to Stone House) which was just a few blocks away from the church.

Bahay na Tisa is a cozy restaurant serving all sorts of food! We were expecting native dishes and were quite surprised to see maki, pasta and roast beef on the menu :D

I ordered fried shrimp and salted fish fried rice. Both were really good! Actually, everybody's order was yummy :D

It was definitely a good decision to make that detour. Next time though we will be more prepared with our maps and gps :D Happy Wednesday folks!

Kit Kat break movement

I have been very forgetful lately. Not sure if it is age related (eeps!) or maybe I am just thinking of too many things! When we go to the grocery I need to have a list of the things that we need so that I'm sure that I do not miss it. One time I forgot to buy cat food... and of course my cat was not pleased when I got back!

What?! No cat food?

When things are getting out of hand it is nice to take a quick break... get a nice cup of coffee or something nice and sweet like a Kit Kat bar! There is nothing better than a Kit Kat break :D

If I can choose what skill I would like to unlock with that Kit Kat break I would definitely pick "never forget any detail". This skill would really come in handy not only when I am at the grocery or doing random things like everyday errands... but also for bigger things like planning trips and coordinating family events.

The original chocolate flavor is still my fave but I also like the green tea variant :D

Cats!

My family and I spent the whole afternoon fawning over the cats at the All Breed Cat show last week. The Cat Whisperer, Mieshelle Nagelschneider was there too but we did not get to listen to her talk since we had another event lined up that day... But it was totally fine because we really just wanted to see the cats :D

Here are some of the photos that i took. Most cats looked grumpy! I guess it is because so many people were observing them :D

How long have you been friends with your best buds? I wish I kept i touch with my grade school buddies but it was a challenge especially since I was the only one who transferred to another school. It would have been easier if we had mobile phones and e-mail back then :D But when I think about how close my mother-in-law is to her childhood friends (That's over 50 years of great friendship!) I realize that the lack of modern communication is not an excuse... You really need to make an effort to keep those relationships alive.

Here are some of the things that I think will help us to be a good friend:

We celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary today.

It's been quite an adventure! Sure there has been some adjusting but all in all the past 3 years have been great. I am very thankful for so many things. Thankful for love and respect, thankful for family and friends, thankful for relatively good health (yes, we are both overweight now but planning to do something about that soon >:p), thankful for our home (tiny but it is ours and we love it) and lastly thankful for cats ( we I LOVE CATS).

May has been a pretty exciting month for meow! Lots of cool events happened in the past couple of weeks. Sharing the 4 memorable events and photos here :D

1. We got to see the Tokidoki exhibit at the mall.

Tokidoki creator, Simone Legno was here! Too bad I missed the meet and greet (it was on the same day as my nephew and niece's birthday party) but seeing the exhibit was good enough for meow.

2. Next up was the Star Wars event at Resorts World where we got to meet R2d2 and the rest of the gang!

Happy to see members of the 501st Legion, fans and kids in costume!

3. Have you seen the show Resurrection? Erman and I got to go to the Asia Launch where we got the chance to meet Omar Epps and Kurtwood Smith!

4. And lastly, the BEST event for this month... going to the All-Breed Cat Show. I won't post the photos of the cats here yet because the event deserves a separate post :D

it's alive!

Are you afraid of creepy crawlies? I found this green worm inside a head of lettuce that has been chilling in my refrigerator for days. I was very surprised to see that it was still alive! I sort of felt guilty just tossing it in the trash so it lived here for a week (in a bowl filled with veggie clippings). We eventually released it outside when we went to the park. Not sure if it will survive but I guess it is good that he did not end up in the trash bin.

I have a slight obsession with aliens (next to cats, of course). I have numerous books, toys, videos and even a laminated alien ID that I carry in my wallet.

Ancient Aliens is my favorite show on TV right now and I am so happy that I get to watch it on on Sky Cable's History Channel. In fact, I even hosted an Ancient Aliens viewing party at my home!

This party would not have been possible without Sky Cable's History Channel! We had so much fun watching and hearing all about the ancient astronauts and also seeing Giorgio Tsoukalos' crazy hair :D

Vacation, please!

It's almost November and as usual I am wondering where the year went! I was hoping that we could sneak in a mini vacation before the year ends but sadly our plans got foiled when Erman and I got sick on our supposed vacation weekend :( I don't really have big travel plans at the moment (but I'd really love to visit Nepal and Jogjakarta- maybe in 2014?). I just want to go to the places where we've already been to and just relax :D Here are some of the spots that I hope we can visit before the year ends:

Tagaytay

Coffee, pies, cool weather and the view!

Las Casas Azucar

Old houses, laid back vibe, looking at lovely things like beautiful swarovski crystal chandeliers and wooden windows

Baguio

Breakfast at cafe by the ruins, organic market, cool weather, ukay ukay! :D

Caramoan

Okay, this one is a bit far compared to the other spots but I'd like to go back and just listen to the waves by the shore. There was a storm the last time we were here and it was a bit crazy when we went near the shore.

I've been doing a lot of cleaning and sorting lately. My mom is planning to use my old room so that means I have to get rid of all the stuff I left there. A lot of items such as computer tables and old books have been either donated or thrown away since bringing them to our tiny home is not an option.

I've thrown away some journals, old notes and random items that i've collected over the years. I mean, I don't think I'll be needing my plastic spoon and expired sugar packet collection anytime soon :D My journals are not very exciting either... 7 year old meow liked to talk about cats. 13 year old meow liked to talk about cats too and yes it is like that every year :D But I did hold on to a photo album filled with photos I took of my cats and other random cats pics collected from teachers and classmates.

and there is even a handwritten movie ticket in the bunch :D

I am still thinking if I should keep this old scrapbook of movie tickets. I kept all the tickets of the movies I watched with Erman when we started dating. I think I have 3 to 4 years worth of tickets here. I'm not sure why I stopped but looking at the dates I think it was when I moved to Singapore for a year. The album got buried somewhere when my room was packed up during my absence.

When not everything was made in China! Ruler and case made in the Philippines, pencil made in Taiwan and ballpen made in Hong Kong :D

I also found this really retro McDonald's give away. I think my dad kept this since I was still too young to appreciate it then. It says 1984 on the ruler so yeah I was just 3 years old when I got this :D

or maybe he kept it because Ronald McDonald looks very creepy! Too bad the set is missing the eraser.

But my favorite find is this old baby box. I've posted about this before but it is nice seeing it again after 3 years of being hidden in my room. My mom said that it was my dad's baby box. I can't verify since there are no dates on the box but it does look very old! I just wonder why it wasn't used.

The soap is still here. The exact ingredients aren't listed but I'm guessing that they did not use a lot of chemicals back then.

It says "Made in E.U.A." (hecho en E.U.A.) on the baby oil bottle. I wonder where that is? Maybe in Europe? The label and the instructions are also in Spanish.

But I'm not 100% sure since I can read Guatemala and Dominican Republic on the label. Very confusing indeed :D

Do you like comparing products and prices before making a purchase? I do! I make sure that I have all the information before buying. I compare at least 3 brands, check the product's specifications and its price at different stores. I also like reading customer reviews. A bit obsessive? Maybe, but this way I not only end up with what I need but also also get the best deals :)

I think I found the perfect spot for our future toaster oven :D

It is great that checking for products is a lot easier now that everything is online. This came in handy for us when we started furnishing our new home. No more need to physically visit each store just to check rates. All the information we needed was just a click away! Unfortunately, not all stores have websites :( We also noticed that most sites are not regularly updated.

Thankfully there is a new site that solves all these problems. Save22.com.ph features comprehensive product pricing and promos from many different stores. The site is also updated daily! Isn't that wonderful? This way it will be hard to miss a good deal.

The website also has a map that makes it easy for you to check if there is a store near you!

And as it turns out, I found out that there a lot of folks like me who like to research online before buying :D I still do some online shopping but nothing beats going to the store and physically inspecting the product before buying it.

Right now we are still deciding if we are going to buy a toaster for our kitchen. Coincidentally I found an oven toaster deal Save22.com.ph! Abenson is offering free toasters to folks who spend P25,000 using their Citibank card. Awesome deal but sadly not for us since we don't plan to purchase anything else aside from the toaster :D However it is great that Save22.com.ph listed the other appliance stores along with the promos that they are currently offering!

Aside from the appliance store promos I was pleasantly surprised to see many others that I wasn't originally aware of. Because of Save22.com.ph I found out that McDonald's is offering 2 awesome deals right now - the drive thru sticker and the free cheeseburger coupon!

Of course I availed of them both :D

I also chanced upon the rainy day deals in Mercury drug and Watson's! I'll be heading out to these stores soon to stock up on the essentials just in case we may be needing them. You guys should check these out especially now that a lot of people are getting sick because of the weather.

Hello, Caramoan!

I feel really lucky to live in a country where there are a lot of beautiful beaches. Sometimes it is difficult to decide where to go since there are over 7,000 islands to choose from, but Caramoan has always been on the list especially after it was featured many times on the Survivor series. According to wiki, the countries that filmed here include the US (2 seasons), Serbia (2 seasons), Israel (3 seasons), Bulgaria (4 seasons), Sweden, France and India.

Getting There

From Metro Manila, the easiest and fastest way to get to Caramoan is via plane to Naga, Bicol or Virac, Catanduanes. Then take a van or jeep to the port going to the islands. Our resort had a 9am boat schedule so the best option for us was to take the night bus to make sure that we got there on time. We booked the lazy boy seats since it was an 8 hour trip! Thankfully the ride was very pleasant - the bus had wifi, less than 20 passengers and only 1 stop since there is a toilet on board. We arrived at the Naga Bus terminal at around 6am. I was a bit worried that we would have a difficult time looking for the vans going to the port but after asking around we found out that the van terminal was just nearby (around 5 mins walk from the bus depot). Yay! I also felt happy that I did not hire the hotel's private car (P1,500) since the fare on the public van was just p100/person :D The trip to the port takes around 1.5 hours.

Talisay port. Very quiet and empty!

The van stops at Sabang port and from here you can take the ferry boat to the islands. Sabang is a small and busy port with lots of tourists, porters and boatmen. It is good that I asked where the boat going to Tugawe Cove was because as it turns out Erman and I were at the wrong port! The van driver was kind enough to drop us at correct place - Talisay Port.

Are we there yet?

After 2 hours of waiting at Talisay port we were finally on the boat and on our way to Caramoan! The boat ride going there takes around 2.5 hours (or longer depending on weather). The water was calm that day and we hardly noticed the time since there was so much to see!

98B Escolta Saturday Market

It was unusually traffic last Saturday but I am really glad that we pushed through with our plan to visit the market organized by 98B at the First United Building in Escolta.

It was a very interesting event! Aside from the cool handmade crafts, vintage items and artworks for sale there were also performances and art installations.

I'm getting a lot of comments on how big Kumo has grown...

But our white boy still has a lot of growing to do to be as big as Nuggie :D

Sometimes i think that Nuggie is a normal sized cat. He doesn't look so big in photos because he has a small face and thin legs :D A friend once commented she has never seen a more pear shaped cat than Nug! The famous online cats like Shironeko and Maru have big faces, paws and fluffy bodies :D

And this funny cat meme I saw on facebook! He's so big and fluffy! I guess like people, cats have different body types too. The only difference is how cute they look when they are fat :D Wish it was the same for us (lol).

Happy Erman Day

June is one of my favorite months... next to March of course :D The weather is a bit cooler, kids are back in school (which means less people in public places on weekdays) and most of all because June is Erman's birth month! :)

To start our birthday week celebration, we invited my family for merienda. I ordered the famous pancit from Orchid's Drive In (671-2235). When I was still employed this pancit was a staple in our office parties. And it was always the crowd favorite! It also comes with sauce which you pour on the noodles so no need to use soysauce or patis to flavor.

Yes, that's fried chicken on top!

I think I went a bit overboard with the size though. After eating we realized that we only consumed about 1/4th :D I was able to keep some for dinner, pack a generous serving for my mom and siblings and share the rest to the guards in the building.

The next day, Erman and I went to Vikings where we both gained 5 pounds :D

They have the usual buffet offerings like assorted sushi and maki

a variety of fresh seafood for grilling

Baked oysters which everybody (except for meow) went to first despite the sign. I'm not really a fan of oysters but apparently most of the diners that day were. This plate was always empty and people would be waiting for it to get refilled. It's the same with the Ebi tempura plate :D

Hotdogs, pizza and poor zucchinis!

Thankfully, coffee and drinks are included :) I had a nice cup to go with the cakes that I had for dessert.

And because it was Erman's birthday he got to eat for free! Isn't that awesome? :D Vikings has a birthday promo wherein all celebrants get to eat for free as long as they dine on their actual birthday while accompanied by at least 1 paying adult. That day I think I counted around 10 celebrants! Haha! Not sure when we will ever be in the same room with so many June 4 babies. Maybe next year again?

He's wild!

I use the word 'wild' a lot to describe Kumo because he really is wild! Sometimes it seems as if this white cat has gone crazy... unlike his big brother, Nuggie who is very predictable and so behaved! But I am not complaining. I guess I just find it funny how each cat is different and has his own personality purrsonality.

When we got Kumo we got a bit worried that he might be deaf. He didn't respond to calls and other sounds we made to get his attention. It is still the same now but I did discover some things that he responds to right away - greenies and grass! He goes really crazy when I'd shake a pack of greenies or dangle a blade of grass close to him. With Nugget it is the opposite! Just meow and he's there :D

This afternoon I found Kumo on the balcony. It had just finished raining and there he was licking the floor and sitting on the water puddles. Not sure why this white cat loves resting his tail on the wet floor! That is something that Nugget (and most cats) hate! The funny (and a bit frustrating) part for me though is how he also likes to rub his wet tail on my leg! Waah!

Erman and I saw these umbrellas in Eastwood the other day. So pretty and colorful!

It has been raining a bit lately. No storm yet but does this mean that summer is officially over?

I hope not because I have one last beach trip planned for this month! Hope the weather cooperates :D

My mom is a big Superman fan. She would tell us about the comics she read (which I wish she kept!) when she was younger. I also remember watching the films with her. She knew all the characters, actors and even random trivia about the production. She was such a fan that she even had Superman Christopher Reeve in mind when she was infanticipating my younger brother! Obviously there was no physical resemblance when he came out but I guess my mother's wishes came true because my brother turned out super in his own way :D

One of the things that captivated me about Superman is his ability to fly. If I had this power for a week I would use it to do the thing that I dream about the most - traveling! Imagine how easy it would be to see all the places you want to go to... No need to get up early and wait for hours in the airport! No need to get a visa, buy airplane tickets and queue in immigration! Isn't that awesome? Here are some of my must see destinations:

I still have a lot of other places in mind but I will definitely run out of space if I try to post them all :D In the meantime let us all continue dreaming about having Superman's powers while we watch the newest Superman movie, Man Of Steel.
