On February 1, 2012, Facebook filed for a $5 billion initial public offering (IPO) with the United States SEC, giving the company the ability to sell Class A Common stock. The IPO, when launched, is largely expected to be the largest in the technology industry history. Yesterday, Facebook filed its fifth amendment to the initial filing, revealing that the stock will be around $28-$35 on launch, giving a valuation between $85 billion and $95 billion.

In order to better explain how the Facebook IPO will work, a two-and-half minute video has been created Kapitall:

According to a report from Variety, Ashton Kutcher will be playing Steve Jobs in an upcoming independent film entitled Jobs. "The film will chronicle Steve Jobs from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time."

Filming is set to begin sometime in May when Kutcher's show Two and a Half Men is between seasons.

It's important to note that this movie is not the same film that Sony Pictures is currently planning about Jobs's life. That film will be based off of Walter Isaacson's Steve Jobs, the first authorized biography of the late Apple co-founder.

Google's rumored online storage service may finally see the public as soon as next week according to a report from Gigaom. The serviced is said he be called Google Drive, or GDrive.

I am told the big day is sometime during the first week of April 2012. Google, of course is not talking. A spokesperson sent me the boilerplate — we don’t comment on rumors or speculation.

The Gigaom author reiterates and uses the word "might" since multiple stories in the past, dating as far back as 2006, have failed to come through. However, the person seems to be very confident this time with "well placed sources."

The report says that Google will offer 1 GB of free storage with an option to buy more. Dropbox, the current online storage leader, offers 2 GB free storage with many options to acquire more. Google is also said to release a local client along with APIs for third party applications.

It's focused on asking Windows users to give Internet Explorer another chance, especially after Microsoft completely overhauled the widely criticized web browser in IE9. The Redmond-based company also says that this ad is a good way to poke fun at itself, and encourage people to upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer.

“Yet another social network?” you ask, with an exasperated sigh. Yes, we’ve been quite inundated with social websites lately, but Schemer, rolled out by Google some three months ago, promises something different. After spending some time with the site, here are my first impressions.

Schemer, in a nutshell, helps you find things to do. Like the name implies, Schemer allows you to create “schemes”: things that you want to do, whether it be trying a new restaurant, finding cool places in your city, etc. When you first sign up for the site, Schemer asks for your location and interests, and finds schemes that you might be interested in. For example, after setting my location to Los Angeles, and saying that I liked the outdoors, Schemer recommended I hike to the Hollywood sign. And once you’ve done something, you have the option of checking it off your schemes list.

The Schemer home page

Of course, there’s also the social part: Schemer pulls friends from your Google+ account that are also using Schemer (so hopefully you already have friends on that account). On the Schemer home page, you can see the Schemes that your friends (called “Accomplices” on Schemer) want to do. If you become “inspired” to do something from your friends Schemes, you can add it to your own Scheme list, and your friend will be notified that you are interested as well. Complementing this, if you find Scheme that you would like to do with your friends, you can “rally” them by sending them a message about it on Google+.

A Scheme page on Schemer

Overall, it's quite a neat idea, and not gimmicky as I initially thought. Schemer is not its own social network per se, and relies heavily on Google+, so only active users of Google+ can take full advantage of it. However, Schemer definitely extends the functionality of Google’s existing social network, and is a smart move by the company. If more users become active on Schemer, I could see myself using it on a regular basis to find new things to do.

Schemer is still in a closed beta, but you can grab an invite from a friend already on the site, or sign up to get an account when they can accommodate more users.

Over the past couple of years, you've probably heard a lot about the United States Transportation Security Administration's decision to invest nearly $1 billion in full body scanners for the nation's airports. The agency claims that the body scanners, which have since come under heavy fire over privacy and radiation concerns, will make air travel faster, easier, and safer.

Blogger Jonathan Corbett seems to have proved otherwise, however. He explained in a video posted to his blog that anyone looking to hide something while going through these body scanners simply needs to hold the object on the side of their body. The scanners are designed to display anything detected to be metallic in black, while the human body is bright white. The background is also black, meaning any object being carried on either the left or right side of the body can pass through without being noticed.

To test his hypothesis, Corbett took a pocket-size metal case and placed it into a custom-made pocket on the side of his shirt. He passed through security and the body scanners at both Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport without the case being noticed either time.

What are you thoughts on this?

Microsoft has posted a new video to its YouTube account that directly attacks Google's "lack" of non-experimental products. The company focused on the number of high-profile changes Google has been making over the past eight months, and the fact that end-users are affected in a major way.

The video follows "Googlighting Stranger," who tries to convince a company to use Google products, despite the fact that they are ever-changing.

We've got to give credit to Microsoft to this one - they've got a sense of humor.

Earlier today, Spotify revealed the top ten songs streamed in 2011 on the music service. Topping the list was Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks," with "Stereo Hearts" by Gym Class Heroes, featuring Adam Levine coming in second.

2011 was a big year for Spotify itself. The music streaming service launched in the United States this past summer, adding millions of both free and subscribed users to the service. Spotify Radio, a service similar to Pandora that allows people to create their own music stations, also launched to the public.

To compare Spotify's list with Apple's iTunes Music Store numbers, "Pumped Up Kicks" finished as the ninth most downloaded song, with ADELE's "Rolling in the Deep" at number one.

Here is Spotify's top ten songs streamed in 2011:

Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks

Gym Class Heroes (feat. Adam Levine) - Stereo Hearts

Adele - Rolling In The Deep

Rihanna - We Found Love

Foster The People - Helena Beat

Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger

Nicki Minaj - Super Bass

Skrillex - Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites

Pitbull (feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer) - Give Me Everything

LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem

Last week, Google began airing a new advertisement for social network, Google+. The ad focuses on the Hangouts feature on Google+, which allows users to make video calls with large groups of people, with a twist - it features The Muppets. Viewers get to listen to the Muppets lip sync David Bowie’s hit, "Under Pressure."

This ad is only the newest in a series of commercials Google has been airing to promote its social network, which launched to the public earlier this year.

The Recording Academy announced yesterday the winners of its Special Merit Grammy Awards, where Steve Jobs will be receiving a 2012 Trustees Award. The award was created to recognize people who have contributed to music in forms other than performing it.

As former CEO and co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs* helped create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books. A creative visionary, Jobs' innovations such as the iPod and its counterpart, the online iTunes store, revolutionized the industry and how music was distributed and purchased. In 2002 Apple Computer Inc. was a recipient of a Technical GRAMMY Award for contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field. The company continues to lead the way with new technology and in-demand products such as the iPhone and iPad

An invite-only ceremony will be held on February 11, 2012 and an official announcement will be made the next day during the 54th annual Grammy Awards.

Jobs passed away this past October following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

New research released by The Nielson Company on Monday shows the application usage of Android users with the most popular app across all groups being the Android Market, obviously.

The study focused on data from thousands of Android smartphones in Nielson's Smartphone Analytics research group. The data in the graph shows the percentage of people who used each application in the last thirty-days, separated into three age groups. In each age group Facebook comes behind the Android Market followed by a range of Google's own apps. Google Search, Maps, Gmail and YouTube were all in the top six in each age group.

Games such as Angry Birds and Words with Friends also made each grouping but in different rankings. Angry Birds usage tended to rise with age as Words with Friends lost users by aging. Google's own Google+, the new social network released by Google earlier this year, did not make any of the lists as Facebook still dominates the social networking world. Somewhat surprisingly is Amazon's Appstore which now appears to be gaining more and more ground as it appears in each age group. The Amazon Appstore also has more older users than younger.

Android isn't just for those ages 18-44 as Nielson says that research is currently being done for those older users. They say that more data on older smartphone users will be released "early next year."

In quite possible the best video game mashup ever the Kinectimals turn out to be not so fun to play with. The guys at Achievement Hunter, a part of Rooster Teeth Productions, created an amazing video sequencing different games together with an awesome narration.

I couldn't identify all the games they used since they may not be the most popular but I can see Kinectimals, of course, Call of Duty and what looks to be a Cabela's game. There are also other games in their but I can't identify them myself. If you can identify, or correct me, on what they use let us know in the comments.

A new website called "ifakesiri" has come to life which allows users to create their own Siri conversations simply by typing in what they want it to say.

ifakesiri.com is made by the same people who made the fake iPhone text screenshot website "ifaketext," which works in the same way. All users have to do is navigate to the site, choose their carrier, type in the conversation and create their screenshot. After the Siri conversation is generated you can easily share on social networking sites or get direct links to the images.

ifakesiri creates almost legitimate conversations to begin with but you can tell it isn't perfect. The font is a little bit off in the input text and minor glitches can occur, such as when trying to use question marks. Even with these small details being noticeable to us, a user who doesn't have as much experience with an iPhone 4S is sure not to notice.

The United States Federal Trade Commission announced on Tuesday an agreement with Facebook to settle charges that the company deceived consumers over multiple privacy complaints.

The eight-count complaint made by the FTC against Facebook said the company made promises it did not keep which were "unfair and deceptive, and violated federal law," the FTC stated in a press release. "Facebook is obligated to keep the promises about privacy that it makes to its hundreds of millions of users," said Jon Leibowitz, Chairman of the FTC in the release.

Under the proposed agreement, which can be made final as early as December 30, Facebook must get consumers' approval before making changes to the way their data is used and shared and cannot make misrepresentations about the privacy or security of users personal information. Facebook also agrees to all periodic assessments of its privacy practices by auditors. All user material must also be made inaccessible thirty-days after deletion. If approved the agreement would be in place for the next 20-years.

Complaints against Facebook all had to do with users privacy including what information is displayed privately and public on users profiles, the access third-party applications have, information that is shared with advertisers and the deletion of accounts. In one complaint the FTC says Facebook made changes to its websites that automatically displayed information to the public that was designated to be private. The change was made without warning users before hand.

Third-party applications were a major factor in the complaints as the FTC claims they have access to almost of users personal data, even if the apps don't need it. The commission says that Facebook's "Verified Apps" program did nothing to protect users as applications under that program were not all certified to be secure. In addition, if users selected "friends only" when sharing something, a third-party application being used by a friend could see all the data that the original user shared.

A lot of confusion has come about when Facebook users want to leave the service, they can deactivate their account or delete it. The FTC says that even after users did this some of their content, including pictures and videos, were still available. The commission also boldly stated, "Facebook promised users that it would not share their personal information with advertisers. It did."

FTC attorney Laura Berger, who worked on the case, said on the commission's Twitter account that if Facebook is found violating the settlement while in duration fines will be $16,000 per violation per day.

As Facebook changes some may ask if the FTC is holding the company back from innovating but the Chairman opposes this theory. "Facebook's innovation does not have to come at the expense of consumer privacy," said Leibowitz in the release. "The FTC action will ensure it will not."

Microsoft announced via the Exploring IE blog today that this Friday, better known as "Black Friday" in the United States, will be "Upgrade your Parents' Browser" Day. The company says that going home for the holiday not only means seeing your family, but also seeing Internet Explorer 6 or 7 installed on your parents' computer.

Microsoft says that everyone should upgrade to either Internet Explorer 8 if on Windows XP or Internet Explorer 9 if on Windows Vista or 7.

Top-10 Moments To Update Your Parents’ Browser

10. When they’re manning the fire extinguisher dealing with the yearly deep-fried turkey accident.

9. When they’re telling your cousins “when I was your age” stories.

8. When they’re face down in the eggnog punch.

7. When they’re fighting over the right way to carve a turkey.

6. When your mom kicks you out of the kitchen for peeling potatoes “the wrong way.”

5. When they’re sent to the grocery store at 2PM on Thanksgiving Day for extra cranberries.

4. When they’re sitting at the Adult’s table (rally the other kids to help).

3. When they’re standing in a Black Friday line.

2. When they’re untangling Christmas lights.

And the number one time to update your parents’ browser is…

1. When they’re distracted by grilling you about when you’re going to get a real job, when you’re going to settle down, and when you’re going to give them grandchildren.

PBS announced today that it will air Steve Jobs: One Last Thing, a documentary that pays tribute to the Apple co-founder, on November 2, 2011. The program will air from 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern time and examine Jobs' influences, among other things.

Gain unique insight into what made Steve Jobs tick. There has been near-universal agreement that the late Apple founder was a great innovator in business and technology, but why was he great? What were the influences that shaped his character and drove him to such success from humble beginnings? With colleagues who worked closely with him and those who have chronicled his life, take an unflinching look at the mercurial, brilliant man and review his many talents and achievements.

In a never-before-broadcast interview from 1994, Jobs expounds on his philosophy of life: “You tend to get told that the world is the way it is, but life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact; and that is that everything around you that you call life was made up by people no smarter than you … Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

The title of the documentary comes from Jobs' famous line, "One More Thing," which often made appearances during his keynote presentations at Apple.

Google launched its coupon service Google Offers in four new cities Tuesday. Great deals can now be found in Baltimore, Minneapolis, San Diego and San Jose.

While Google Offers still remains in beta it clearly isn't taking the slow approach since launching just six months ago. The service is now available in sixteen cities across the U.S. and more are coming soon. Users can subscribe to their city with their Google account to receive daily deals. Those who are still holding out for their own city can also sign-up to be notified when they are ready to go.

Siri may be the most exciting feature of Apple's new iPhone 4S but there's one thing it won't do, tweet. Well officially it won't tweet for you but you can trick it if you have a Twitter account synchronized with your phone number for SMS updates.

Siri can send text messages to people just by listening to you so it is possible to tweet, you just have it send a text message to Twitter's short code.

1. Qualifications: A Twitter account associated with your mobile phone number, an iPhone 4S and internet connection.

2. Activate Siri on the iPhone 4S by holding down the Home button. Say "text [your message]."
For example, here I said: "Text this tweet was sent from Siri period."

3. Siri will now ask you who to send the message to. Say the Twitter short code for your country/carrier. In the U.S. it is 40404. Say "40404."

4. After address Siri to send the message to Twitter she'll ask your to confirm. You can tap the buttons on the screen or say "send" or "cancel." You may even say "edit" if you want to edit the message.

This may not be the fastest method for sending regular text messages through Siri, but I believe it is the only way to send SMS updates to Twitter. You may find yourself attempting to say "text Twitter this tweet was send from Siri period" but you'll receive a message that Siri cannot help with Twitter. In addition, when Siri asks to whom to send the message if you say Twitter, even if it is in your contacts, it'll just keep asking.

After all, Twitter is integrated into iOS 5, here's to hoping Apple adds the functionality to officially tweet from Siri.

YouTube launched Tuesday a channel asking for users to upload videos about how the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks on America has affected them. The channel, called "Reflections on 9/11," is also in partnership with The New York Times.

YouTube asks users to upload their own 9/11 videos answering questions on how the attacks effected themselves and America.

We want to hear from you.

What is your strongest memory of 9/11?

How did 9/11 change you? How did it change America?

What did you lose - or gain - because of 9/11?

On August 23, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake rattled many parts of the east coast in the United States. As you'd expect, many affected by the quake immediately switched to social networks like Facebook and Twitter to get the word out to friends, family, and followers.

That's exactly what Twitter shows in this video it posted to its YouTube channel. The video starts by telling the viewer that it took the earthquake 30 seconds to travel from Washington DC to New York. It then shows a man in New York City enjoying his drink and then checks his phones for new tweets. The man then picks up his coffee cup from the table and the earthquake hits, rattling and shaking everything around him.

While some will take this seriously and not like Twitter's attempt to humor people, some will see the real purpose of the video and that is, showing how people will tweet anything, and fast.

Jobs stepped down from CEO of Apple Inc., on Wednesday.

The tech industry was hit with a surprise earlier this week when now former Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that he was stepping down from the position after 14 years.

The video above takes the entire career of Jobs at Apple and compresses it into about two minutes. It's definitely an entertaining watch and ends with a pretty awesome battle scene between Jobs and Tim Cook, Apple's new CEO, against an army of Android robots.

Let us know what you think!

In total, 150 words were added, including "crowdsourcing," "m-commerce," and words as far as "fist pump," which is described as being the move made famous by United States President Barak Obama. If your idea is good enough, you may see it go off into production and sold at many retailers across the world. Quirky was founded in 2009 by Ben Kaufman, the company's current CEO.

The company has been such a success that the Sundance Channel has decided to make an entire show around Quirky. The first episode airs on August 30, 2011, but it is available to watch on Hulu (or below) right now.

Yesterday, Twitter announced that it rolled out its official photo uploading service to all of its users. The service basically removes the need for other websites like yfrog and Twitpic.

Less than 24 hours after that announcement was made, Twitpic founder Noah Everett launched Heello, a near exact, feature-for-feature copy of Twitter. It includes the ability to mention someone, follow someone (called "Listeners" and "Listening"), and "Ping" (basically the same as tweet). You can even "echo" a "ping," which is the same as retweeting. The same 140 character limit per "ping" exists on Heello as well.

The only different between Twitter and Heello is that you can share your "pings" to Twitter and Facebook.

Do you see this service taking off like Twitter did?

Google has updated it's Google+ iOS application Monday bringing support for both the iPad and iPod touch. Previously the app was only able to run on iPhones.

Google+ has been updated with:

- Huddle settings

- Aggregated circle add notifications

- iPod touch & iPad support

- Performance and stability improvements

While the most significant update made Monday may be iPad and iPod touch support it should be noted that the application is not a universal application in the App Store. Therefore iPad users still will be able to use the application but at either it's native iPhone resolution or full-screen by pixel-doubling.

It is currently unclear when, even if, Google plans to release a universal application for its new social network. Currently both the update and the application are available free in the iTunes App Store.

"Well, sometimes when a person really loves their gmail very, very much the two get together and an ad is born." This latest video (via ZDNet) from Microsoft uses "Gmail man!" and tries to show how Gmail scans for keywords in your emails to display ads on the page. The video is clearly a parody.

The overall goal of the ad is to convince users to switch to Microsoft's recently launched Office 365 service because it doesn't scan for keywords in your emails. It may be interesting to note that this video was actually leaked and not officially released by Microsoft. Because of this, it's possible that this isn't genuine from Microsoft, but there are specific things in the video that lead many to believe it is in fact genuine.

We don't have too much more to say about this. Microsoft, you've really outdone yourself.

By now, you've probably heard about singer Amy Winehouse's tragic death this past Saturday. Following the 27-year old's death, arguably her best known album, Back to Black, shot up to the number one spot as the top selling album on iTunes. Coming in as the third bestselling album on iTunes is Winehouse's Frank collection, while Back to Black: B-Sides is number seven.

In addition to this, Apple is running a "Remembering Amy Winehouse" promotion with a collection of the artist's songs on iTunes.

In somewhat related news, Microsoft has issued an apology for its controversial tweet that told people to remember Winehouse by downloading her last album from Zune. The tweet was issued via a small Microsoft UK PR account for the Xbox 360. As you would expect, many followers of the account believed that this was simply a commercial tweet from Microsoft.

In a followup tweet one hour later, the company stated: "Apologies to everyone if our earlier Amy Winehouse ‘download’ tweet seemed purely commercially motivated. Far from the case, we assure you."

Have you downloaded any of Winehouse's songs/albums?

Oestlien said that the original plan of selecting a certain businesses for test profiles has been scrapped and that Google will open up business profiles for everyone in the "next few months."

Google strongly recommends that businesses wanting a Google+ profile to select someone to represent the company using the regular consumer profile and act has him-or-herself. Google also asks businesses not to create profiles using the regular consumer profiles on the website.

Oestlien said that currently the Google+ platform isn't ready for business use and the it will come soon. "Doing it right is worth the wait," said Oestlien.

Google will continue to disable profiles that currently use regular profiles as a business profile.

Social group network startup Fridge has been acquired by Google, the company announced Thursday. Fridge said Thursday that they will be "closing up shop" and the team will be merged with Google and Google+.

We are pleased to announce that the Fridge team will be joining Google!

It has been an amazing ride developing Fridge, but most importantly we are very thankful to our enthusiastic community of users. We strongly believe in the group social experience and couldn’t think of a better place to realize our vision of bringing the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to the web as part of the Google+ Project.

Fridge announced Tuesday that They would be shutting down but gave no answers to why and when. Members are no longer able to post anything new on the site they can still downloaded and save their data. The site members will have the option to download their data until Saturday, August 20, at 6:00 ET. After that time all data will be deleted from the Fridge site.

With Fridge's main social focus being about groups and sharing with groups the team will most likely join Google to work with them on Circles, a critical part of Google+.

Now, Google+ has gotten its very own "The Social Network" trailer parody, something that we can almost always expect nowadays.

This trailer pokes fun at the fact that everyone is looking for an invite to Google+ and takes a nice spin on Facebook's 500 million users (now actually 750 million) campaign.

Take a look at the trailer parody after the break. (Warning: contains a bit of NSFW language).

Twitter, the world's most popular micro-blogging service, celebrates its fifth birthday today, July 15, 2011. Five years ago today when Twitter opened to the public, it was actually called "Twttr," but we all know by now that changed. Twitter also tweeted out via its official account a link to the blog post by Biz Stone, a co-founder of Twitter, first announcing the service.

What's changed in five years? Well, first off, Twitter revealed that it saw more than 600,000 signups just yesterday. It took the company more than 16 months to reach the initial 600,000 signups. Next, there were 224 tweets sent out on July 15, 2006. Today, Twitter users send the same amount of tweets in less than a tenth of a second.

Happy birthday, Twitter!

Google+, the search giant's brand-new social network that was launched into what was supposed to be a small, invite-only field test, will hit 10 million (10,000,000) users within the next 48 hours. The information comes via Paul Allen (not the same Paul Allen who co-founded Microsoft) on Google+, where he explained his method of finding how many members Google+ approximately has at this point in time.

Allen used surnames from U.S. Census Bureau data and compared it to surnames of Google+ users. By doing this, Mr. Allen can guess an estimate (or "guesstimate" if you prefer) as to the U.S. population that has signed up to Google+ so far. Finally, Allen calculated a ratio of U.S. to non-U.S. users on Google+ to find the amount of people using the social network worldwide.

By doing all of this, Allen has come to the number of 9.5 million Google+ users worldwide, with 2.2 million people joining in the last 32-34 hours.

My surname-based analysis shows that the number of Google+ users worldwide reached 7.3 million yesterday (July 10) – up from 1.7 million users on July 4th. That is a 350% increase in six days. The userbase is growing so quickly that it is challenging for me to keep up, since the number of users of any given surname (even the rare ones I am tracking) seems to be climbing every day.

Allen also claims that Google+ may reach 20 million members by this weekend.

To give you an idea of other member millstones for Google+ - on July 4th, there was a total of 1.7 million members. By July 9th, there were 4.5 million people on Google's social network. The number seems to be increasing the most when Google keeps the invite option available to all Google+ members.

Also, for comparison, Facebook, arguably Google+'s biggest competitor, has 750 million members. Google+ has a way to go, but this certainly isn't a bad start.

A new service went live Tuesday called Photovine, it appears to be a photo sharing network run by Google. The service, which doesn't look like it is officially open, is described as "a fun way to learn more about your friends, meet new people, and share your world like never before."

Photovine is a begins with a users uploading a single photo to the service and adding a caption. From there a vine is started, by this others can connect their photos to yours and create their own captions. Therefore two or more photos are link together via a vine with captions, for example a caption could be named "what weekends are make of."

As of right now the service doesn't look to be open to the public. The website just has a homepage with two links, privacy and support. There is nothing that indicates when the service will go live or if it will be integrated into Google's new social network Google+.

The only mention of Google you'll find is in the Privacy Policy section of the website where it states "Photovine is offered by Slide (a part of Google Inc.,..."

Twitter announced Monday they have crossed over the one million registered applications mark with more than 750,000 developers around the globe. The company also released an all new developer website using Drupal to allow change in the community.

It wasn't a year ago when Twitter had just 150,000 register apps, now Twitter has a growth rate of a new application every 1.5 seconds. The company says the spike in growth is helping fuel the ecosystem of the network in areas such as analytics, curation and publishing tools.

Twitter also announced that since December 2010, more than $500 million has been invested in the Twitter ecosystem. Even more impressive is over $1 billion has been paid out in acquisitions.

An all new version of Twitter's developer site was also released Monday with a number of changes including better communication channels improved reference and documentation all using Drupal so that the the site can evolve to serve the needs of the community.

The new developer portal also includes a discussions section for developers to talk with each other, a dedicated blog so announcements are easily found and an enhanced search feature the to get better results. The new app manager in the portal also has a new design that provides more information about developer's apps.

There's no doubt that Google+ is one of the biggest topics on the Internet right now. It was first announced by Google late last month and since then, it seems like almost everyone on the Internet who is technology-inclined is trying to get their hands on an invite to the social network.

According to Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism, Google+ accounted for 35% of tweeted news links last week, followed by global warming stories and hackers and al Qaeda. What is interesting to note, however, is that Facebook didn't even make the list last week with its at-the-time impending announcement of Skype video calling integration.

Seems like people are excited for Google+, but will the excitement continue?

LinkedIn, which filed for an IPO back in May of this year, reached an all-time high of 33.9 million unique visitors in June, putting it past MySpace's 33.5 million. On a side note, MySpace saw 34.9 million unique visitors in May, meaning things aren't looking good for the aging social network that was just acquired from News Corp. for $35 million.

In addition, Twitter saw a record-breaking 30.6 million unique visitors in the U.S. last month, up from 27 million in May. Facebook seems to have responded to this by also having a record-breaking month in terms of traffic, seeing 160.8 million unique visitors in June (up from the 157.2 million in May). Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg officially revealed that his social network, which is just seven (7) years old, has reached 750 million users.

Finally, Tumblr saw 11.8 million unique visitors last month, up from the 10.7 million in May.

Facebook is just wrapping up its "awesome" product announcements, where the social network announced new group chatting, a new chat design, and video calling powered by Skype.

Group chatting

Facebook says that group chatting is easy to setup. All it does is take the one-to-one chat and expand it to support multiple people. 50% of people on Facebook are using Groups. To add a friend to chat, just click the "Add friend to chat" button in the chat window.

Group chatting is rolling out to Facebook users today.

New chat design

Facebook announced a new design for the chat feature on the social network. It allows users to easily find people who are currently online and the sidebar now resizes based on your browser window size. The chat window is now a full sidebar on the right side if your browser window supports it, making it easier to find people. The new chat design also makes it easier to find people you contact the most.

This feature is rolling out to Facebook users today.

Video calling

As expected, Facebook announced video calling integration that is powered by Skype. There is a new "Call" button on people's profiles to start a new video chat. There is also a button on the chat window to start a video chat with someone.

Facebook says that video chatting is really easy to setup, even for non-techy people. The example Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, gave was a grandfather video calling with his grandson.

A plugin must be downloaded to use video chatting, but it should take less than 30 seconds to install. Once it is installed, the video chat immediately begins.

Video chatting is rolling out to everyone today.

Other notes

Zuckerberg: don't rule out group video chatting

Zuckerberg doesn't want to talk about Google+ much, but he thinks that many companies will begin build social apps

Facebook officially announced that it has reached 750 million users

As reported by BGR, today, AT&T announced the HTC Status smartphone that the entire social media market has been waiting for. The Status has one of the deepest integrations of Facebook of any smartphone currently on the market.

The HTC Status features a relatively small 2.6" touchscreen display, an 800 MHz processor, a QWERTY keyboard, Android OS 3.2 (a.k.a. "Gingerbread"), HTC's Sense UI for Android devices, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a front-facing camera for video conferencing.

The phone doesn't seem like it will live up to all the hype it has been receiving, but we'll have to wait and see. Pricing hasn't been announced yet and the Status will be available from AT&T (exclusively) "this summer."

More information available after the break:

Today, HTC launched a new page on Facebook, all about the HTC Status, coming exclusively to AT&T this summer. You know those priceless moments with your friends on Facebook—that quick pic, inside joke, or perfectly timed post? The first device with a Facebook share button, the HTC Status ensures those moments happen more often, keeping you at the center of your social circle. The HTC Status lets you share just about anything with just one touch, including music, photos, location and status updates. HTC Status also features a chat widget that allows you to, at a glance, see when your friends are online. You can start a live instant chat and juggle between as many private conversations as you want, all straight from the device.

“HTC Status brings a Facebook experience to people who want to share their experiences with their friends faster and easier than ever before,” said Jason Mackenzie, President, HTC Americas. “With a dedicated Facebook share button combined with the hallmark HTC Sense experience, HTC Status makes it easy for people to stay connected to the things that are important to them.”

Dedicated Facebook share button

One touch to share- Press the Facebook share button from your home screen to instantly post on your wall.

Snap, shoot, share- Take a picture or shoot a video and share it instantly with a press of the Facebook share button. You can even post pictures automatically as you’re taking them..

Quick-on-the-draw check-in- Just long press the Facebook share button to check in your location with Facebook Places.

Be first with the news- See something cool on the web? Share your latest find with a quick press of the Facebook share button.

Post to your wall – or a friend’s wall – From the home screen, a quick tap of the Facebook HTC share button makes sharing anything on your mind quick and easy.

Share what you’re listening to- The Facebook share button glows when you’re listening to music, to let you know you can share. Let your friends in on the music you love with the push of a button.

Lock screen shortcuts

Instead of a barrier, the HTC shortcut lock screen just became a launch pad to what you want to do now! Open your favorite apps by just dragging their shortcut icons into the lock screen ring.

See what’s happening before you pick up

Every time you get or make a call, you see your friend’s profile picture and latest status update right on the call screen. If it’s their birthday that week, you’ll see that, too.

Special effects for photos and videos

Anyone can be an artist. Use camera effects to make your photos and videos look like they’ve been taken through special lenses and filters—like Sepia for an old-fashioned look, or Aqua for a touch of cool. Apply effects right in the viewfinder, or apply them afterwards in the Gallery.

Front and back cameras

Take a spontaneous self-portrait or a quick cheek-to-cheek pic with your best pal on the VGA front-facing camera—or just double-check your hair with the Mirror app. With the 5.0 MP main camera with LED flash, you can capture every moment, with pictures or high-quality video.

A smarter ringer

The “Quiet ring on pickup” setting reduces the ring volume when you pick the phone up. The “Pocket mode” setting increases ring volume when your phone is in a pocket or bag, and then returns the volume to a reasonable level when you take it out.

Tech Specs

Platform: Android™ 2.3 + HTC Sense

Display: 2.6-inch touch screen with 480 x 320 resolution

Network: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900
