Instagram allows users to place filters on their photos and share them on social networks. While Camera+ is similar in that sense, it is also a full-on photo editing app for iOS.

A deal fell apart between Twitter and developer Tap Tap Tap because the company didn't want to relocate to San Francisco.

Twitter executives held several meetings with Camera+ developer Tap Tap Tap, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks were private. The talks broke down before Twitter could make an offer because the startup’s far-flung workforce was reluctant to relocate to San Francisco, they said. While 10 employees are already based there, Tap Tap Tap has 20 others in Austria, New Zealand, Spain and elsewhere.

Twitter was rumored to be negotiating a deal to acquire Instagram just before Facebook announced that it did.

According to a report from The New York Times, Twitter was interested in acquiring popular photo upload and filter service Instagram before the company was bought by Facebook earlier this month for $1 billion. The fact that Twitter founder Jack Dorsey hasn't uploaded any pictures to Instagram since the announcement further supports this rumor. Dorsey had apparently been trying to secure a deal months before Facebook, but ultimately failed to do so.

Mr. Systrom may have lost one connection in the deal: Mr. Dorsey of Twitter. His company, according to several people briefed on the matter, had expressed interest in buying Instagram in recent months. Mr. Dorsey once used Instagram daily to send photos to Twitter, but he has not been back since the deal was announced, perhaps a sign that he is not happy to see it in the hands of a competitor. A Twitter spokeswoman declined to comment.

Twitter announced via a blog post yesterday that it has filed a lawsuit against the most aggressive spammers on the microblogging service. The company has been battling spammers since Twitter's launch years ago, but only recently have the number of spammers on the service gone up significantly.

This morning, we filed suit in federal court in San Francisco against five of the most aggressive tool providers and spammers. With this suit, we’re going straight to the source. By shutting down tool providers, we will prevent other spammers from having these services at their disposal. Further, we hope the suit acts as a deterrent to other spammers, demonstrating the strength of our commitment to keep them off Twitter.

Twitter also says that its engineers are hard at work to fix the back-end of the service to prevent spammers.

Today, Twitter released an update to its BlackBerry app (App World link), bringing a slew of new features and improvements to the somewhat neglected app. The update, version 3.0, brings support for sharing links through the BlackBerry Browser, uploading photos to Twitter's official service, and connecting a Twitter account to BlackBerry Messenger (a.k.a. "BBM").

The new version requires BlackBerry OS 5.0 or later to function.

The BlackBerry apps for iOS and Android have already long been updated to include similar new features.

Today, March 21, 2012, Twitter turns six years old. The popular microblogging service revealed in a blog post that there are currently 140 million active users on the website, and that there are about 340 million tweets sent every day. The rest of the post focused on how founder Jack Dorsey posted a sketch of his idea of what would eventually become Twitter (known as "twttr" back in 2006).

Without you, of course, there wouldn’t be a Twitter. We mark our sixth birthday with you in mind, and celebrate your myriad ways of engaging, enjoying, and emoting on our platform. As Jack noted when he posted his sketch of the service he envisioned, “I'm happy this idea has taken root; I hope it thrives.” Thanks to you, it is.

"This team has built an innovative product that makes sharing across the web and mobile devices simple—a goal we share. Posterous engineers, product managers and others will join our teams working on several key initiatives that will make Twitter even better," Twitter explains.

The microblogging service has also confirmed that Posterous Spaces will remain up and running for users, and that should changes occur, users will be given "ample" amount of time for preparation. Those looking to move away from Posterous will be able to in the coming weeks once Twitter provides instructions on how to do so.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Twitter announced today that it has officially added support for right-to-left languages, including Hebrew, Arabic, Farsi, and Urdu. Back in late January, Twitter revealed that it had begun translating the website with the help of volunteers, but neglected to give an estimated release date.

Twitter is now available in 28 different languages around the world. Right-to-left languages posed a unique technical challenge, particularly with Tweets containing both right-to-left and left-to-right content. To solve this, our engineering team built a new set of special tools to ensure these Tweets, hashtags and numbers all look and behave correctly.

Back in early December of last year, Twitter announced a major redesign of its website and mobile applications, putting a focus on discovering new content and simplifying navigation. The updates have been rolling out slowly to all Twitter users over the past two months and today, the company announced via its blog that the new design is live for everyone.

An overview of the new features:

Click any Tweet in your timeline to expand it to see photos, videos, retweets, favorites, and more.

Connect is your way to keep conversations going. It’s the place to see who has followed or mentioned you, or retweeted or favorited one of your Tweets.

Discover lets you tap into a stream of useful and entertaining information, customized just for you. When you use Discover, you’ll see results reflecting your interests. These are based on your current location, what you follow and what’s happening in the world.

Embed Tweets on your website by copying and pasting one line of code.

Check out the new Twitter brand pages from accounts like @NPRNews, @Audi and others.

Despite the fact that the Super Bowl is now 24 hours behind us, America and the Internet are still buzzing about last night's biggest plays, commercials, that nice new Chevrolet Corvette that Eli Manning is now a proud owner of. Both Google and Twitter have released their statistics about Super Bowl XLVI, and we've recapped them below.

Google

Google starts off by saying that 41% of searches about Super Bowl advertisements made during the game came from mobile devices, which is up from 25% last year. During the game, the following list were the most-searched terms:

Madonna

Halftime show

Patriots

Tom Brady

Giants

This year's Super Bowl was the first one ever that was live streamed on the Internet, and Google says that searches for "super bowl live stream" peaked at kickoff.

Finally, Google says that companies ads that were posted to YouTube, either in full or teaser mode, were watched more than 30 million times before kickoff Sunday night. "Game day searches for [super bowl ads] were 122 times higher than the same time last week," the web giant says. Acura, GoDaddy and M&M’s were the top three most popular ads in terms of Google searches made.

Twitter

Twitter says that it saw a tweets per second (TPS) spike during this year's Super Bowl in the final three minutes of the game, shortly after the Giants' final touchdown. The TPS number is being listed as 12,233. Madonna's half time performance averaged 8,000 TPS, with a peak of 10,245 tweets.

Twitter announced via its official blog today that it has begun working on adding support for right-to-left languages for the microblogging website. The company is beginning translation work for Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew and Urdu using volunteers in the Twitter Translation Center.

The Twitter Translation Center takes a crowd-sourced approach to translating and localizing Twitter for people around the world. More than 425,000 volunteers contribute to the Translation Center, and to date have helped make Twitter available in 22 languages. With their help, these will be the next four.

Twitter explains that it has developed a way to make sure that tweets and hashtags will appear properly in right-to-left languages, as well as giving users a more "localized experience."

If everything goes as planned, the company will be introducing these four new languages sometime in the spring.

Alongside the announcement of a completely redesigned website and mobile application, and brand pages, Twitter also announced that it is introducing the ability for people to embed single tweets onto things like websites. The embeddable tweets also display the author's account name, and the ability to reply, favorite, retweet, or follow the account.

Today, we're introducing embeddable Tweets, a new way to add any Tweet to your website just by copying and pasting a line of code. Your website visitors will see a Tweet that focuses on the content by surfacing the conversation and media. Visitors can follow the author with a single-click, and reply, retweet, or favorite the Tweet without leaving the page

The post ended with Twitter stating that it has rolled out a redesigned Tweet button and Follow button for websites.

Earlier today, Twitter announced a major redesign of its website and mobile applications. The new design puts heavy focus on discovery and seeing only what matters to you. Alongside the new design, Twitter also announced that it has launched the ability for brands to create pages on the microblogging service, rather than normal accounts like it has been prior to today.

The brand pages will sport a large header image, perfect for a logo, tagline, and/or other visuals.

You can also control the message visitors see when they first come to your profile page by promoting a Tweet to the top of your page’s timeline. This Tweet helps you highlight your most engaging and important content and better connect with your target audience. The Promoted Tweet on your profile page will appear auto-expanded so that visitors to your page can instantly see the photo or video content that you link to from your Tweet.

Twitter has launched these brand pages with 21 companies today and will slowly be rolling it out to the world in the future. @AmericanExpress and @Staples are two accounts that have brand pages setup.

In a somewhat unexpected move, Twitter today announced that it will soon be rolling out a completely redesigned website and mobile application to users. The company states that it has "simplified the design to make it easier than ever to follow what you care about, connect with others and discover something new."

We’ll be rolling out the redesigned Twitter over the next few weeks. You can see it immediately on the just-updated versions of mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for iPhone, and Twitter for Android. You can get early access on your computer by downloading and logging into Twitter for iPhone or Twitter for Android. We’re working on updates for other apps, such as Twitter for iPad, and will share news as they become available.

The redesigned Twitter focuses on five major sections: "Home," "Connect," "Discover," "Me," and "Tweet." "Home is where you view Tweets from the people you have chosen to follow. It’s your personal collection of Tweets, featuring the latest news, commentary and information from the sources you care about," Twitter said.

The Connect section allows users of the microblogging service to see who has followed or mentioned them, as well as retweets and favorited tweets.

When you use Discover, you’ll see results reflecting your interests—based on your current location, what you follow and what’s happening in the world. As you use Twitter more, Discover gets even better at serving up more content just for you.

To begin using the new Twitter on your desktop computer, you must download either the Twitter for iOS or Twitter for Android application and sign in. If you choose not to do that, you'll have to wait a few weeks while Twitter rolls out the redesign to every user.

Say hello to PostPost. It's a service that allows you to, simply put, "strip search" your Twitter timeline. To simplify that statement even more, PostPost allows Twitter users to see information from only the top 200 people the service believes is most relevant to them. You can track comments, posts, links, videos, etc. from those 200 people.

Why 200 people? Well, PostPost explained to us that the service is based off of Dunbar's Number, the theoretical limit of people that one person can maintain a "significant social relationship with."

"The deluge of real-time data on Twitter can be overwhelming – somewhat akin to drinking from a fire hose if you’re following hundreds or even thousands of people. As such, I wanted to introduce you to a new Twitter search engine that was designed to strip out the noise from your timeline – and help you find relevant news, products, images, etc. only from the 200 people you are most connected with," the company explained.

Homepage of PostPost

Using the search box above, PostPost users simply have to type in a query (for example, "Apple") and then all tweets that have to do with Apple from the 200 people are displayed. The search can be drilled-down even further to links, photos, and videos as well.

PostPost seems like a very good tool if you'd like to use Twitter as an information source or if you'd like to track down specific tweets.

What do you think about it?

Siri may be the most exciting feature of Apple's new iPhone 4S but there's one thing it won't do, tweet. Well officially it won't tweet for you but you can trick it if you have a Twitter account synchronized with your phone number for SMS updates.

Siri can send text messages to people just by listening to you so it is possible to tweet, you just have it send a text message to Twitter's short code.

1. Qualifications: A Twitter account associated with your mobile phone number, an iPhone 4S and internet connection.

2. Activate Siri on the iPhone 4S by holding down the Home button. Say "text [your message]."
For example, here I said: "Text this tweet was sent from Siri period."

3. Siri will now ask you who to send the message to. Say the Twitter short code for your country/carrier. In the U.S. it is 40404. Say "40404."

4. After address Siri to send the message to Twitter she'll ask your to confirm. You can tap the buttons on the screen or say "send" or "cancel." You may even say "edit" if you want to edit the message.

This may not be the fastest method for sending regular text messages through Siri, but I believe it is the only way to send SMS updates to Twitter. You may find yourself attempting to say "text Twitter this tweet was send from Siri period" but you'll receive a message that Siri cannot help with Twitter. In addition, when Siri asks to whom to send the message if you say Twitter, even if it is in your contacts, it'll just keep asking.

After all, Twitter is integrated into iOS 5, here's to hoping Apple adds the functionality to officially tweet from Siri.

This week, Apple launched a new Twitter account for the U.S. iBookstore, providing updates for followers regarding new releases, offers, and other information. The account was actually first opened back in June, but Apple has only begun sending tweets out today, Wednesday, September 14, 2011.

The first tweet sent out from the account:

Welcome to the Apple #iBookstore on Twitter. Follow us to discover new releases, exclusive book offers, and more.

The second tweet sent from the iBookstore's Twitter account promotes Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus.

Apple currently operates another Twitter account specifically for the App Store, providing similar information that this account gives.

Today, Twitter announced its web analytics tool, allowing website owners to see exactly how much traffic they are receiving from Twitter and how effective Twitter integration(s) is/are on their website. The company says that the tool was built with help from BackType, which Twitter acquired back in July of this year.

The product provides three key benefits:

Understand how much your website content is being shared across the Twitter network

See the amount of traffic Twitter sends to your site

Measure the effectiveness of your Tweet Button integration

Twitter Web Analytics will be rolled out to a small group of testers this week. All website owners will have access to the tool within the next few weeks. Twitter also stated that it plans to release an API for developers interested in integrating the tool.

Twitter officially revealed via its blog today that it has surpassed 100 million active users on the micro-blogging service, a little over five years since launch. Twitter says that more than half of its users log in everyday and 40% of active members simply log in to check their tweets, not tweet themselves.

The company also stated that support for Hindi, Filipino, Malay and Simplified and Traditional Chinese will be available in the coming weeks, bringing the number of languages that Twitter supports to 17.

This is without a doubt a major milestone for Twitter and at the same time, it shows how many people are beginning to switch to social media, like Twitter, to get their daily dose of news around the globe.

On August 23, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake rattled many parts of the east coast in the United States. As you'd expect, many affected by the quake immediately switched to social networks like Facebook and Twitter to get the word out to friends, family, and followers.

That's exactly what Twitter shows in this video it posted to its YouTube channel. The video starts by telling the viewer that it took the earthquake 30 seconds to travel from Washington DC to New York. It then shows a man in New York City enjoying his drink and then checks his phones for new tweets. The man then picks up his coffee cup from the table and the earthquake hits, rattling and shaking everything around him.

While some will take this seriously and not like Twitter's attempt to humor people, some will see the real purpose of the video and that is, showing how people will tweet anything, and fast.

Via a support document published today, Twitter announced that it has begun rolling out a new feature called "user galleries," which takes all of the images you've uploaded to Twitter, yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram, etc. and places them on a single page for viewing on the service.

User galleries on Twitter aggregate the images you've uploaded in your Tweets into an organized page where you can view all of your most recent images.

There are some technical restrictions on the service, however:

Only the 100 most recent images will appear (pictures display in chronological order)

Videos are not included in this feature - only images

If the tweet with an image was sent before January 1, 2010, it will not appear on your gallery

Information on how to access user galleries:

User galleries can be found on an individual users' Profile page.

Clicking on View All will open the user gallery in your current window.

There are two different options for viewing the galleries that can be changed in the upper right-hand corner of the gallery once it's opened:

The grid view will show you thumbnails of all images we're able to display.

The detail view will show you the most recent image, complete with the body of the Tweet displayed below it and thumbnails for other images above it.

Users also have the ability to remove an image from their gallery by deleting the tweet that contains the photo.

Twitter confirmed yesterday that it has rolled out its official photo sharing feature, which was first unveiled in June, to every user on the micro-blogging service. The feature allows users to upload pictures to include in tweets directly from Twitter.com, rather than using a third-party service like yfrog or Twitpic.

To use the feature, click on the new camera icon underneath the "What's Happening" box on Twitter.com and upload an image. That tweet will then contain a URL to the image, beginning with pic.twitter.com, as well as a thumbnail. Twitter says that the image must be under 3 MB to successfully upload and will be scaled to fit in the timeline on the site.

The service is powered by Photobucket, a website that allows users to upload pictures. Apple's iOS 5, which is currently in testing with developers, has already been using the official Twitter photo uploading service for a couple of months now.

Twitter announced via one of its accounts that it has begun rolling out a HTML5 version of Twitter.com for iPad users. The refresh is not only valid in the latest HTML standard, but updates the design of the website to match the somewhat recently released touchscreen version.

Twitter says that the new design will be rolling out to iPads "over the next week or so," meaning if you don't see it just yet, don't freak out. We've included some screenshots below.

Earlier this evening, Twitter tweeted out via its official account that any users still using the "Old Twitter" will be automatically updated to the "New Twitter" - which isn't really "new" anymore - later this week. Nearly a year ago, Twitter launched a completely new design on its website, which took certain elements from iOS on the iPad.

Shortly after launch, Twitter said that it would offer users the ability to use the old design for a few weeks. We're not sure what happened, but Twitter is still offering the old design today. Back in June, Twitter began warning users still on the old design of the website that an upgrade will be occurring shortly.

Are you going to miss the "Old Twitter?" Do you like it more than the current design?

We first reported that Twitter was planning on placing Promoted Tweets in users' timelines last month. Today, Twitter officially announced via its blog that it will be bringing the advertisement-based tweets to timelines in the coming weeks.

"These Promoted Tweets will scroll through the timeline like any other Tweet, and like regular Tweets, they will appear in your timeline just once. Promoted Tweets can also be easily dismissed from your timeline with a single click," the company stated. Twitter says that it wants to make sure that tweets from organizations you follow are available directly to you.

We’ll be rolling out and testing this new offering over the next several weeks with a select group of partners, including Best Western, Dell, Gatorade, Groupon, HBO,JetBlue, LivingSocial, Microsoft Xbox, Red Bull, Sephora, Starbucks, Summit Entertainment’s “50/50”, TNT and Virgin America among others — with more to come soon. During this phase, you may also see Promoted Tweets in your timeline from non-profit organizations you follow, including charity: water, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Room to Read, The American Red Cross and Water.org.

It's very important to note that you're only going to see ads from companies you follow already, not just any Twitter user who runs ads. The company hopes that this will make the ads actually useful and not just there to annoy you.

Previously, Twitter had Promoted Tweets in searches on the micro-blogging service, as well as Promoted Trending Topics that appear in the sidebar.

Twitter, the world's most popular micro-blogging service, celebrates its fifth birthday today, July 15, 2011. Five years ago today when Twitter opened to the public, it was actually called "Twttr," but we all know by now that changed. Twitter also tweeted out via its official account a link to the blog post by Biz Stone, a co-founder of Twitter, first announcing the service.

What's changed in five years? Well, first off, Twitter revealed that it saw more than 600,000 signups just yesterday. It took the company more than 16 months to reach the initial 600,000 signups. Next, there were 224 tweets sent out on July 15, 2006. Today, Twitter users send the same amount of tweets in less than a tenth of a second.

Happy birthday, Twitter!

Twitter announced Monday they have crossed over the one million registered applications mark with more than 750,000 developers around the globe. The company also released an all new developer website using Drupal to allow change in the community.

It wasn't a year ago when Twitter had just 150,000 register apps, now Twitter has a growth rate of a new application every 1.5 seconds. The company says the spike in growth is helping fuel the ecosystem of the network in areas such as analytics, curation and publishing tools.

Twitter also announced that since December 2010, more than $500 million has been invested in the Twitter ecosystem. Even more impressive is over $1 billion has been paid out in acquisitions.

An all new version of Twitter's developer site was also released Monday with a number of changes including better communication channels improved reference and documentation all using Drupal so that the the site can evolve to serve the needs of the community.

The new developer portal also includes a discussions section for developers to talk with each other, a dedicated blog so announcements are easily found and an enhanced search feature the to get better results. The new app manager in the portal also has a new design that provides more information about developer's apps.

There's no doubt that Google+ is one of the biggest topics on the Internet right now. It was first announced by Google late last month and since then, it seems like almost everyone on the Internet who is technology-inclined is trying to get their hands on an invite to the social network.

According to Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism, Google+ accounted for 35% of tweeted news links last week, followed by global warming stories and hackers and al Qaeda. What is interesting to note, however, is that Facebook didn't even make the list last week with its at-the-time impending announcement of Skype video calling integration.

Seems like people are excited for Google+, but will the excitement continue?

LinkedIn, which filed for an IPO back in May of this year, reached an all-time high of 33.9 million unique visitors in June, putting it past MySpace's 33.5 million. On a side note, MySpace saw 34.9 million unique visitors in May, meaning things aren't looking good for the aging social network that was just acquired from News Corp. for $35 million.

In addition, Twitter saw a record-breaking 30.6 million unique visitors in the U.S. last month, up from 27 million in May. Facebook seems to have responded to this by also having a record-breaking month in terms of traffic, seeing 160.8 million unique visitors in June (up from the 157.2 million in May). Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg officially revealed that his social network, which is just seven (7) years old, has reached 750 million users.

Finally, Tumblr saw 11.8 million unique visitors last month, up from the 10.7 million in May.

According to a report from Mashable, Twitter has begun testing a new feature that allows users to @reply, or "mention," another user directly from that person's profile page. The feature is similar to a wall on Facebook and would make it easier for users to mention another person on Twitter. The tweets are public and the feature is currently being tested with a select amount of Twitter users.

The micro-blogging service has been criticized about its @reply system because currently, if someone wants to mention another user, they either need to directly type in that person's Twitter username or reply to a tweet from that person.

It's not clear when this might be released to all Twitter users. Are you looking forward to this feature?

BackType, an analytics company focused around tweets, announced via its blog today that it has been acquired by Twitter. BackType's team and technology will be making the trip over to Twitter's offices where their "focus will be developing tools for Twitter’s publisher partners."

Our team’s relocating to the Twitter office. We’re very excited to not only join an amazing company that’s changing the world, but to continue building products in pursuit of our shared vision with Twitter.

BackType developed a product called "BackTweets," which allows content publishers to see who is reading their tweets and how "tweets convert to web traffic." As a result of the deal, BackTweets will be offered for free to current users and new user registrations will begin to slow down in the future. In addition, BackType services and API's will be discontinued.

No further information about the deal was revealed at this time.

As noted by Mashable, Google has shut down its realtime search engine, cleverly dubbed "Google Realtime Search," following its contract with Twitter expiring this past Saturday, July 2, 2011. Google's Realtime Search allows users to search for content as it happens and it included Twitter integration for tweets.

However, today when attempting to access http://www.google.com/realtime, users will receive a 404 error page. In addition, the option to use realtime search has been removed from the sidebar on Google.com.

According to the report, Google was forced to shut down Realtime Search because its contract with Twitter that allowed the search giant to have access to a full feed of all public tweets expired on July 2. The original agreement between Google and Twitter dates back to October 2009.

“While we will not have access to this special feed from Twitter, information on Twitter that’s publicly available to our crawlers will still be searchable and discoverable on Google,” the company said Monday. “Our vision is to have google.com/realtime include Google+ information along with other realtime data from a variety of sources.”

It's not yet clear whether Google is re-negotiating a contract with Twitter or if the search giant has elected to include Google+ posts instead.

Are you going to miss Google Realtime Search?

Stone revealed that he will be once again working with Ev Williams, another Twitter co-founder, on these new projects. The endeavors will be housed under Obvious Corporation, a company created by Williams last decade. The two will be joined by Jason Goldman, another Twitter executive that left the company last year.

My work on Twitter has spanned more than half a decade and I will continue to work with the company for many years to come. During this time—especially lately, it has come to my attention that the Twitter crew and its leadership team have grown incredibly productive. I've decided that the most effective use of my time is to get out of the way until I'm called upon to be of some specific use.

Stone also revealed that he will still be part of Twitter and will make appearances when possible, but his major focus will be on "new endeavors … I’ve decided that the most effective use of my time is to get out of the way until I’m called upon to be of some specific use."

According to Mashable, Twitter is planning on placing Promoted Tweets, or paid-for tweets, into users' timelines on the micro-blogging service within the next two (2) months. Promoted Tweets are for advertisers who pay for a specific tweet to be promoted on Twitter. Currently, you can see promoted content on the sidebar of Twitter.com and in searches. However, until now, promoted content has remained out of users' timelines for the most part.

Over the past few weeks, Twitter has really been pushing advertisers to use Promoted Tweets, making sure they know that this isn't any test and Promoted Tweets are here to stay on Twitter.

Are you looking forward to seeing Promoted Tweets in your timeline? Let us know in the comments below!

Last September, Twitter began rolling out a completely refreshed version of its website, featuring a new design; it is referred to as the "New Twitter." At the same time, the company revealed that it will give its users the option to stay on the "Old Twitter" version while users learn the new interface. At first, Twitter told its users that the older design would only be available for a few weeks, but almost a year later, the old design is still accessible by everyone who wants it.

However, Twitter has begun informing users that people still on the old version of the website will have to switch "very, very soon." The message informs people that their accounts will be automatically upgraded to the New Twitter. The message lays at the top of every page of the micro-blogging service's website and is in yellow to grab users' attention. One thing that is not certain is how long it will be until Twitter does flip the switch - it could be a few more days or weeks or even months.

While there are some users who don't like the website's new design, the majority of them do.

Are you sad to see the Old Twitter go? Are you still on the Old Twitter?

It’s great to see this kind of variety and growth in the ecosystem as it moves beyond basic Twitter clients. These new services help people get the most out of Twitter, contributing to user growth and new business opportunities—both of which are critical to the long-term viability of the ecosystem. We’re making great progress in these areas—we currently have more than 145 million registered users and the performance of our Promoted Products has exceeded our expectations. But we still have lots of room to grow and improve. We look forward to seeing what’s next.

Twitter announced four months ago that they've reached 105 million registered users, meaning the number of registered users is increasing fast. If you do the math, it comes to about 300,000 new registrations every day.

Twitter just released their iPad application yesterday, continuing their move into the mobile market.
