Organize Beautifully

Yes, yes, it has been a while!! One reason for this would be the massive kitchen and laundry room re-model that Ryan and I have taken on in the last couple of months. And I don't just mean a little paint here and there!! I'm talking about knocking out a wall, re-doing cabinets, stripping wallpaper, installing new crown molding, and the list goes on... It has been a major undertaking, but I know it will be SO worth it when we have everything just the way WE want it!!

I have to say that Pinterest has been a MAJOR help through this process. I can't tell you how many times I have gone back through my pins for decorating inspiration and how-tos!! What did we do before Pinterest... seriously?!?!

We are blessed with a pretty large laundry room, so I am wanting to create a little "entry way" or "mud room" area (whatever you want to call it) in there. Basically a "catch all" area for shoes, bags, keys, etc.

Fear

I have to admit something about myself that I don't really like....

I spent a lot of my younger years not trying things because of fear of failing.

Fear of embarrassment.

Fear of not being good enough.

I remember the year that I quit cheerleading.

That year was so hard for me!!

I LOVED being a cheerleader in high school!!!

I LOVED everything about it, but when it came time to try-out for Varsity Squad at the end of my sophomore year, I backed out.

Not because I didn't want to do it anymore, but because I was afraid that I may not make it.

I knew that it was going to be a really close competition between a few of us and one of us that had already been cheering wasn't going to make it.

so I backed out.

I told everyone that I wanted to try out for the dance team instead.

So I did, and I made it.

Don't get me wrong, I loved dance too, but that is not why I switched.

I switched because I chose the safer option.

The option where I knew that I would make it.

The option where I knew that I wouldn't be let down or embarrassed.

I knew that I couldn't throw round-off back handsprings like some of the other girls

because I had not been in gymnastics my whole life like they had.

And even though I took lessons in high school and got better,

I was just still too behind the ones that had taken forever.

I knew that there was no catching up.

so I walked away.

I walked away from something that I LOVED.

Now that I'm grown, I sometimes wonder if there might have been things that I could have been really good at, but never knew because I never tried.

Like ballet

or playing softball

or playing the piano

or singing

or gymnastics (if i would have started earlier)

I want to give my kids every opportunity to be anything they want. I want them to at least get a chance to try things and see what they like and what they are good at.

I don't ever want to be a "stage mom" or to push my dreams onto them, but I do what them to have all the opportunities possible so that when their try-out comes along, they will be just as prepared as the kid next to them!!

I want them to know that I support them in any and everything that they want to do in life.

And I will always be on the front row or bleacher cheering them on!!

Our Preacher is always talking about God waking him up in the middle of the night, or at 3a.m., so he can have quiet intimate time with him. That's kinda how I feel right now, because I have all these "lessons" swirling around in my head and can't seem to sleep, so I decided to write about it!! During my Bible study/ prayer time tonight, I feel like God really opened my eyes to a few things, and I really want to remember them!!

Our preacher has been talking a lot lately about how sometimes Christians get SO busy "doing", that they stop "being." This thought has really resignated with me lately.

I think sometimes we think that we have to be doing such "big things" in life to really make a difference. We think that if we are not moving mountains, traveling around the world, or raising thousands of dollars for a certain cause, that we aren't doing our part. But, I have to wonder, if sometimes their isn't actually more honor and humbleness in doing the "less glamorous work." The work that doesn't get talked about on TV or news programs. Don't get me wrong, these big things can be great if done to glorify Jesus and not ourselves, but I think that sometimes we can make just as big of an impact (and maybe even a bigger impact) in less glamorous ways!! Yes, it "looks" a lot bigger to be traveling around the world showing and telling about the love of Jesus, but what good does it do to do all that, if we aren't even showing the love of Jesus to our own family. Our own kids. Our own sisters and brothers. Our own co-workers. Our own community.

I sometimes worry that people get so caught up in "How THEY look" and "What THEY are doing" that it becomes more about THAT, than Jesus. Last wed. night our preacher was talking about this exact thing. He was saying that how we can tell that someone is really living in the Holy Spirit and living for Jesus, is that nothing is ever about them. It is ALL about Jesus. He said that if the Holy Spirit is truly in them and in what they are doing, you will only here Jesus glorified through it because the Holy Spirit can ONLY glorify Jesus, not himself. So if you hear someone going on and on about what "they" are doing for God, or what "they" are doing for a certain cause, then it is not being done through the Holy Spirit. It is being done through themselves. If it IS being done through the Holy Spirit, "they" will NEVER be glorified through it, only Jesus will. So it will never be said," I am doing......" or We are doing.......". It will only be said, "Jesus is doing .....". When someone is acting IN the spirit, they humble themselves, and realize that "they" are doing nothing, and Jesus is doing everything.

This doesn't mean that these people don't have good intentions, but somewhere along the way, they get so caught up in "their doing", that they stop "being in the spirit." Sometimes we just need to STOP for a moment and examine ourselves. Are we glorifying Jesus, and not ourselves, in all our "doing???" Are we humbling ourselves to the Holy Spirit and what he has in store for our life (no matter how glamorous it looks to the world).

Another way we can tell if someone is truly living for Jesus and in the Spirit is by their fruits. I just listened to an older sermon online from earlier in the year, and it was talking about the fruit of "peace." You know someone is living in Jesus, when they have complete peace of the spirit. Peace of the spirit is unlike any other peace. It's has nothing to do with job security, financial security, security in your marriage, ect. Peace of the Spirit, is a Peace that you have even if all those other things are gone!! This is a peace that you can only get through Jesus.

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit is a biblical term that sums up the nine visible attributes of a true Christian life...

When we are living for Jesus and have the Holy Spirit living with-in us, we will experience the most amazing joy, the most amazing peace, and the most amazing love we can imagine. We will exhibit patience, kindness, and gentleness to EVERYONE. These fruits are far better and make us far richer than any amount of money or material possessions ever could.

Sea World ~ Shamu The Killer Whale

We spent 2 days at Sea World for Ethan's Birthday.

One of our favorite parts of the whole time was watching Shamu and his trainers perform in the show "One Ocean."

The kids LOVED it!! It was a pretty amazing show!!

Spring Break Part One: The One Where the Carousel Almost Gave This Mama a Heart Attack

We had such a super fun and eventful Spring Break that I decided I should break it up into more than one post. Otherwise, it would be complete picture overload!!

Ethan turned 6 years old on Saturday. He's my St. Patty's Day Baby!!

We decided to take a little trip to Sea World to celebrate this big event.
