How ironic that the BBC's coverage of the 2011 Formula 1 season ended with the above image. Viewers of the Formula 1 Forum, following the Brazilian Grand Prix, were treated to the only semblance of an apology that the BBC have offered to it's millions of Formula 1 fans for the decision to abandon any sort of serious commitment to the sport. The fact that this apology came about as a result of a

This article was sent in to us by Jena Ellis from Online Certificate Programs. At Its Not Life Or Death we may know that this article isn't about football at all, but seeing as they call football soccer we'll let them off. We are grateful - honest! Thank you Jena.... With the average football game lasting more than three hours, it's not easy for play-by-play men and analysts to fill air time

On the penultimate day of the Premier League season I sat down on the sofa, drink in one hand and feet up ready to watch my Chelsea team take on Newcastle United in a pointless, nothing to play for match at Stamford Bridge. The mood in the stadium seemed a little subdued, and the match proved a perfect opportunity for Chelsea to model their new home shirt for the next season. This game never had

Something has happened to English cricket. I'm not sure when it happened, but something has definitely changed. Nobody warned me that this was going to happen and I'm simply not prepared. I don't know how to deal with this new version of being an England cricket supporter. Perhaps if I were more than a casual supporter of cricket I would have recognised the signs that things were changing.

June has arrived with rain which can only mean one thing: we’re once again on the verge of Murray mania. As the world’s elite prepare to descend on the lawns of Wimbledon in the coming weeks, we can be quietly confident that once again the nation’s optimists – from north and south of the border – are preparing to descend on the grass of Murray Mound, ready to cheer on their champion elect. We

In true Fighting Talk style, the challenge is to claim that Lewis Hamilton had a point when he made his post race comments which have seen him castigated by all and sundry, following last Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix. At first glance this is not an easy task. It appears that the brakes on Hamilton's tongue are not carbon fibre as he struggled to slow down his over-heated tongue from spouting

So, who has booked their place in the Olympic Stadium next summer? It’s a question many of us will have been pondering in recent weeks, eager to find out whether we have struck lucky in the ballot and placed successful ticket applications. It’s not often that you wait in hopeful expectation of seeing your bank balance decimated, but that’s precisely what most of us have been doing of late – “What

Clever types sometimes debate the theory of 'hedonic adaptation', which claims that after experiencing changes for the better or worse in our circumstances, we swiftly adapt to them and our levels of happiness and relative expectation revert quickly back to 'normal'. 56k dial-up internet access from my desktop was once greeted with euphoria – oh the possibilities of this new world! – now I'm

Pontius Pilate washes his hands of the whole affair Watching the Sepp Blatter news conference yesterday, I was struck by a strange sense of deja vu. I had seen this scene played out somewhere before in the dim and distant past. A man of authority stood before an angry crowd who were demanding answers. A man who forgot that with authority comes responsibility. A man who did not have the backbone

As somebody who is usually one of the first to criticise the poor sportsmanship, bizarre excuses for losing and general lack of good grace amongst today's crop of football managers, I feel the need to offer praise to Sir Alex Ferguson for the good grace and sportsmanship he has shown following Manchester United's defeat by Barcelona in the Champions League final. Last Sunday the curtain was finally drawn on the 2010-11 Premier League season, with many commentators and pundits claiming that it was the best season ever. There are certainly quite a few factors to support this argument. The title race was wide open for the vast majority of the season, with Chelsea and Arsenal both in with a chance of claiming the title prior to Manchester United finally

Seven pole positions from the last eight races- there is no doubt as to Sebastian Vettel’s position as King of qualifying. The current qualifying procedure of two knockout sessions followed by a top ten position shootout for pole position is designed to create drama and excitement for viewers. If you are too young to understand the title of this article then I envy you. Not only will you not have had to reluctantly deal with the onset of middle age, but neither will you have suffered the crimes against music that Chas and Dave inflicted upon us in the 80s. Last Wednesday night, Cristiano Ronaldo showed his credentials to be labelled ‘the best footballer on the planet’. In extra time he scored the winning goal with a sublime header to win the Copa Del Rey final for Real Madrid. Ronaldo gained the headlines although Sergio Ramos can lay claim to most YouTube hits for his infamous dropping of the trophy from the celebratory double decker bus. One week

Easter is behind us, the sun is shining and football fans have frayed nerves. It's that time of the season when fans of clubs up and down the country anticipate the pain of failure or the celebrations of success. All of the ifs, buts and maybes begin to fade away as the range of possible outcomes become narrower and narrower, leading ultimately to the certainty of a final league position. For

Following the split-second call made by Stefano Domenicali in the championship clinching Abu Dhabi grand prix last year- to bring Fernando Alonso into the pits to cover off an early stop by Mark Webber- Ferrari gained heavy criticism, not just from Ferrari chairman Luca Di Montazemolo but also the unwelcome input from Italian politicians. This criticism nearly led to the resignation of team

FC Schalke 04 enter their most important match in recent history on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Kaiserlautern on Saturday. A champions league semi-final with three times champions league winners, Manchester United, beckons on Tuesday night and following their stunning 7-3 aggregate victory over the Italian giants last month, very few spectators of that night would object to Schalke

It seems that nothing is going to top Royal celebrations when it comes to grabbing the headlines this week. People will be dancing in the streets, singing their hearts out with songs of celebration and basking in the glory of a very special bank holiday weekend. Among all of the celebrations of the Royals, we likely will be firmly reminded that the Queen still rules and is very much unmovable at

Another week, another footballing scandal. A mystery, married, premiership footballer has been having an affair with Imogen Thomas, a former Big Brother contestant. In one of the most exciting Premier League season's for many a year, three London teams know that there is no more room for slip ups as we approach the business end of the season. Two undeniable conclusions can be drawn from this year's cricket world cup in India. The 50 over version of the game is alive and kicking and still has a future, despite the success of the 20/20 format. Secondly, the tournament lasted far too long. In an age where cricket authorities need to balance the development of the game with the increasing demands upon teams and players in an overcrowded

They say a week is a long time in football. By that definition 22 years must be an eternity. However, some things go beyond the passage of time and cannot be allowed to fade into distant memory. The events at Hillsborough on 15th April 1989 may be literally a lifetime, or even more than a lifetime, ago to many football fans, but that is no reason to forget the tragedy that unfolded at what was
