We have it here. Finally there will be an android phone that is not as slow as what we currently get. However it is also true that android is not actually hitting iPhone, android is hitting WM.

I think Android is a great system at least at first hands. However, the phone’s hardware is not capable of running this system smoothly, once you have launched some apps on it. The fact that there is no obvious way to kill apps makes its multitasking capacities a really no-no thing. iPhone is actually carefully considering this and that’s why we don’t have multitasking on iPhone, simply this is not ready for smartphones yet.

Also the responsiveness of the system is quite bad. A phone need to be responsive, but this is not the case in Magic. It is nothing magical, in terms of speed.

Third, there are lots of effects which are switched off by default, and once cracked open, the effects are sluggish. I guess that is the reason why the effects are switched off by system default.

May be the new “Hero rom” (the rom with HTC Sense on it) may change some of the bad things, but the fact that hardware is not up to the scale of the software would make this system more a gimmick than a real product.

Verdict: If you really want to have something great with Android platform, wait until Motorola Droid is released.
