LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Audrey Jr. Dedicated to my dad's favorite horror story, we just had to pull over, jump out of the car and to take some pics with that enormous not-man-eating-at-least-I-suppose-so plant. What we discovered furthermore was an amazing jungle-ish garden (yes, that's totally meant in a good way) with palm trees, hortensias plus a bunch of other funny plants -- and a cute little shop of ~~horrors~~ outdoor design desires... and all... you know. Anyways, my outfit's very basic, my hair's undone done thanks to the special tool I told you about earlier this week (yes, yesterday), which is just my taste. What's yours?

BIG TOOL 4 U

Hairstyle. Do you remember that SATC episode where it's all about cyber - well, let's say - dating offline and all, you know? Anyways, this post is absolutely not about sex or cyber-well-dating or anything connected to it - at least you have any awkward imaginations but that's still another story, I guess - because now, it's actually all about the babyliss XL curling iron (whose name, in fact, should definitely finally turn the last doubters down). Ever so often inspired by Alex's "model off duty" look created by Fekkai's head stylist Eric Sebbag (gotta watch the video!) I started to hit the shops hunting for a XL curling iron which as a matter of fact seemed to be much easier to achieve that every day out of bed look than to apply a handful of - certainly amazing - products. Maybe that's just me and I'm no expert but I can tell for sure from personal experience, mind you, the result's exactly what I had in mind, which is the perfect imperfection - if that makes any sense at all, you know... - what more can I say? I did not have a large choice of devices but for about 30€ and an easy handling, I think, it's more than worth it.

I know you can buy a bunch of perfectly grey toned denim like this one or that one nowadays but then again, call me old fashioned, I just like the fact of wearing them out all by myself - except for some sunny tricks and kicks, mind you, at least.

Bellevue. Now that's how I roll after a day filled with more or less important lectures at uni. A little bit exhausted (see: above), a little bit rumpled (see: the blouse) and a little bit confused (see: below, like after the click), but thank god I have a backpack that keeps all the sh*t together, if this makes any sense? Kidding.

Anyways, I wish these where Dickers but they're only some hardly worn knock offs I bought at Zara some years ago for less than half the price (think of something like 15€, like 7,50€ per shoe, totally insane!). They aren't too similar, though, so I guess, they get away as designer inspired ~~cow~~tomboy-ish boots - just to revisit the topic. Or am I only ~~dreaming~~ skewing the truth? Tell me, tell me, please!

EYES WIDE SHUT

Happy Mother's Day. These days usually make me all cheesy but today it's with a heavy heart I'm writing this: the upcoming days, weeks and maybe even months will probably be the toughest of my life but we're all ready to fight, which is actually all that counts. I'm trying to manage family and uni life as good as possible which is the reason for the little downtime on the blog, lately. Hope you do understand, though.

On a lighter note, however, I got that blouse in navy too. Still reminds me of Marie Antoinette, still think it's always nice to have some same designs that fit perfectly - which in fact is very challenging to find - in different colors hanging in your closet. Also, I'm actually wearing earrings (detail shots are to come) which I haven't in years (at least it feels so). Whether it's the uptightness that mostly comes along with pearls or my nickel allergy, don't quite know why I never got to like 'em as much as bracelets and rings, though. Anyways, like to pair 'em with a very laid-black outfit and even though the blouse-plus-earrings-combo would be too elegant for an ordinary day, the dungarees do their job best by dressing it all down. What do you think?

ON PRESS DAYS

major Prada. I love press days. Sometimes it can be slightly awkward, you know, on the one hand there are those very serious magazine editors who slurp their drinks, talk nothing, eat less and kinda act as if they just don't care and on the other hand, there are the bloggers who are beyond excited, wanna try everything and anything, snap every single item at least three times and the food, of course, the food - as if they never had some rice in a jar or, well, slurped Martinis. Well, there's definitely some clash of extremes. I'm a blogger, of course, but still - unthinkable back in February, though (and if only out of spite as I enjoyed dressing all black before) - I must say, I'm all in for dressing editor-ish - black crow-ish, if you will, again!

PS: even so, can't say no to a little twist - aren't these Prada sunnies MAJOR?

Let's forget about the inconvenient DHL delivery services (dropped the very important parcel just in front the, you know, front door - well, maybe we should discuss the whole new meaning of (in-)front-doors? - where anyone and everyone could - let's say - borrow it, unbelievable, no?!) and talk about the, on the other hand, cautiously wrapped items you get at my-wardrobe.com: it's like they send their parcels with an extra portion of love and share the joy that comes along with shopping (online). Must say, wasn't easy to decide what to order in the end as their range of designers and merchandise is nothing but my taste. Tulips Today

Baselworld area. As the Baselworld came to an end yester~~day~~ eve, I couldn't resist to take some pics like outside the miniature-houses called booths as - apart from all the high quality bling - the flower arrangement around the hall was the most beautiful I have seen here in years. Another beautiful thing you may recognize - apart from the basic understated look, may gonna have to revise my statement on black crows - is something I still can't believe I got my hands on or rather in. It's the leather jacket that blow my mind back in Hamburg and it happens to be an early birthday present, I guess, so I'm going to wear it rarely like if I can, till then at least.

At the moment I like to dress very simple -- okay, except these ruffle blouses but then again, also here I like to dress them down -- basic tees, denim pants or shorts and a classic oversized blazer, parka, whatever - I know you know where this is going - so you name it. Admitted, it's not innovative but brilliant in it's own kinda way. Keeping the looking French thing in mind, you know? Imagine sitting in a street cafés dans la rue Saint-Honoré, you know, obviously showing off my French and all... well, rather smattering, but don't tell - s'il vous plaît? Anyway! Try to think big when it comes to accessories, though, like a good pair of sunglasses and shoes, of course, the shoes. Magnifique!

PS: aren't those peonies beautiful? definitely among my favorite flowers!

What I wore. Okay, there're two rookie mistakes to avoid when attending a blogger event like if you're not okay with standing out or attracting funny looks: 1) don't wear flats, just don't - why? well, you wouldn't want to look like this, right? 2) don't leave your extremely heavy SLR camera at home because you're too lazy to carry it all day and all night. But then again, if you're okay with talking to all the other bloggers' chests and all, having fun, dancing wild as you don't have to worry about blisters on your feet or smashing your camera to pieces, I guess, you should go for 'em uncommon habits, anyway -- so I did.

This post, though, is not merely about bloggers and their seemingly global oddities, but about the super duper rad blouse that makes me feel like Marie Antoinette, more of a Kirsten Dunst version, though. They come in something they call 'bone white' and a good old navy -- just couldn't resist. Also, there's that similar super fabulous suede blouse with a little party in the back - not that fabulous for your wallet, though -- so I had to resist. Anyways, let them eat cake ... and all.

SUNDAY PICTURES

The Sartorialist Closer by Scott Schuman. When I spotted Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist in action for the first time, it was right before the Topshop Unique show during LFW: I was standing in line an he passed by, I could only spy from the corner of my eyes but definitely hold my breath: there he was, photographing those who don't obviously aim for it. Same procedure the following season in New York: we were heading through the slush to the Lincoln Center, he was, perhaps unsurprisingly, snapping street styles. Again he walked by but I dare to say, even though I was wearing a pair of sunglasses, we had something film scholars like to call an eyeline match. Anyways he didn't snap or maybe took one from our backs? Who knows? Kidding. I believe, though, the third time will be the charm. Haha.

However, I find it very exciting to flip through the tome once in a while, not only because of the mostly 'unknown' faces (okay, of course he snapped some Italian icons like Anna dello Russo, Giovanna Battaglia, Franca Sozzani or Eleonora Carisi) but also because I think one can learn a lot by looking at his work. Also, must say, love the photographs he took of his girlfriend, Garance Doré, the most - what about you?

BASELWORLD '13: SWAROVSKI

shine bright like a diamond. Although this wasn't their motto I could only see stars and sparkles after attending Baselworld on behalf of Swarovski. Must say, it was such a nice afternoon and evening which made experiencing Baselworld very special: after having some snacks and drinks at the Swarovski booth Nathalie Colin, Swarovski's creative director herself, introduced her latest designs and upcoming collections. Admitted, I was more dazzled by her statement necklace and couldn't catch all the information about, you know, all the other stuff, but one thing I know for sure: Swarovski teamed up with Shourouk and what came out is a mind-blowing girly girl's dream (see: all the pretty jewelry snaps + the woman in yellow). To top it all off, Swarovski invited us to stay for dinner which was held at the major Noohn - you can convince yourself of the dinner's extend by hopping over to the blog's Instagram (@itsonwithallegra), only two words: chocolat fondant!

Oh dear. Back in my teenage days I would have never imagined that I was still dealing with acne in my twenties. Well, we're obviously talking about another kind of acne - the only difference, though, is that now it's no longer for free, yet deeply desired. How paradoxical is that? We all probably tend to always want what is hard to get or the other way round, you name it. I better don't start telling you how major the current Spring/Summer collection actually is - I already literally melted away back in September '12 and you, too, know, it def didn't look bad on me (haha -- no but seriously, see?), which in fact, is too bad, exactly: too bad for my wallet and makes me antsy about Fall/Winter '13.
The story, however -- and thanks to the amazingly kind costumer service, mind you; love rhubarb soda and all -- has an happy ending for me - I'll keep you posted!

Hotels and a view. Our hotel wasn't very cute, rather the contrary (such a business thing to stay at, which certainly reflects the reason of our trip, though) but at least we got to stay at the top floor, which in fact was the 27th -- which, again, may not sound so spectacular for someone who lives in the city of skyscrapers, but hey, we definitely had an amazing view. Totes amaze! And as rooftops kind of are my thing, we had to snap, you know, a snap... or two. However, this is a homage to the north, outfit-wise, of course. See??

HAMBURG, MON AMOUR

One night (and two days) in ~~Bangkok~~ Hamburg. There are those cities like New York, Paris, London or Milan you always dream to live in, someday for sometime or other. But there are also cities you can truly imagine to live in for real and for ever... and ever. For me, Hamburg is definitely one of the latter: people are unbelievable friendly, the buildings and canals are like candy for the eyes and maybe, just maybe it's me, but the nordic charm and humor plus the cute street cafés you find like at each corner make me wanna melt away. And if the sun finally decides to show up and one can enjoy those warming rays (and maybe some ice cream bomb on the waterfront) your heart will never stop jumping around. Maybe it's just a flirt, maybe it's love at first sight but I can tell, I still have that huge smile on my face.

PS: we did some sightseeing, of course, but as I told you already earlier this week, I love to watch the people in the streets to get a glimpse on the daily lives in those cities - which is why we stopped for a bite and drink every other hour... - my favorites: Café Paris (very posh), Petit Café (they have some major cake), Duske & Duske (latte macchiatos in the sun, what more do you want?) -- more after the click

THE BIG Q&A

Well, hello, hello my dear friends. Welcome to the hot seat, micros' on me and all -- but first of all, thank you very much for all the positive and constructive feedback and shown interest, I really liked to go through your questions and suggestions and appreciated every single note. So here's a fun fact: there won't be many changes on the blog in the near future, which I consider as very flattering and leads us right to where the fun part actually kicks off: as there were a bunch of questions about the same, same but different topics, I've tried to bundle 'em up and here we go... (after the click)

- What do you do for a living? How can you afford all your clothes?

I'm still a student at uni, so I have some side jobs every now and then. Also, I try to get a paid internship during the breaks or any summer job. Frankly, I save my earnings to spend 'em all on clothes, but then again, I like to think big and mostly invest (shoe-wise, of course). However, I certainly am a lucky kinda gal as my parents support me in everything and anything I do - whether it's about education, sports or blogging/fashion.

- What inspires you?

I get inspiration from almost anything: whether it's an excellent book or movie, fashion magazines or blogs - it's like soaking up all the positive energy ;) haha, no but seriously! Traveling inspires me too: love to just sit there in that certain parisian cafe in Saint-Germain-des-Prés or super cool bar (preferred : PASTIS) in the Meatpacking district and watch those fashionable people passing by. I love how different they are and at the same time, how they all seem to manage their lives effortlessly in those cities of my dreams (and even if they kinda struggle by sizing the days, they do cover it and maybe it's just for the moment, but that's what they convey -- blablabla -- you know?).

well, well, well, ... 5'7'' with flats, I guess ;)

- What beauty products do you use on a daily basis?

I swear on Chanel (see: lipsticks, eyeshadows, le vernis, perfumes, powders, blushes and brushes) and Kiehl's (see: moisturizer, make up remover, ultra facial cream, eye creams, midnight recoveries, lip balms, sunblock -- et cetera, et cetera)!

- What hair products do you use on a daily basis?

I'm a sucker for Bumble & Bumble. Not quite sure if it's because 'em products make your hair look super nice or if it's the simple fact of appealing packing or because it's hard to get in my area. But let's assume the former: I tried a bunch of shampoos and conditioners and masks and sprays and I love them all -- love how they make my hair feel and smell -- currently I'm using: the thickening shampoo and conditioner plus the summer surf spray for an effortlessly beachy wave. Also, the quenching mask for very thirsty hair which I apply like once a month... the BB cream, too, is perfect for messy hair -- oh, and I also have the Mason Pearson brush which is like THE brush which, again, is the one and only I use ;)

- What? What now?

I'm off to Hamburg for a super speedy trip, need some change of scenery and all, you know -- PS: as we are on the subject, any suggestions?

Hairdressers and other stories. Okay, this is not about exploring limits like how often I can possibly wear the same ~~old~~ new denim dungarees 'till you loose faith in my actual dressing skills, but see: another pair of shoes, another shirt, another time, another place. In fact, the place is what this is actually all about as I, on the other hand, however definitely explored some new territory: after my Venezuelan experience last January, I took another risk and went somewhere else for some summer-ish lightening (see: Cute, also here). Must say, had to cover my anxiety every now and then, but jumped for joy afterwards as it turned out pretty good - very natural and all. So I can tell - by personal experience, mind you - it's well worth a visit!

YES, YES, YES. Just placed my order, this is totally insane! I know, I know, I know, it's -- surprise, surprise -- nothing new (see: 3.1. Phillip Lim, see: Acne, back then), which I hate and can't help but love at the same time as I'm very into dungarees/jumpsuits/rompers - you name it - at the moment. You can also find a copy of those amazing 3.1 Phillip Lim pointy cage flats at the stores (here), which still are super cool but cross-border, if you ask me. You see, there's a fine line between 'high end inspired' and 'high end aspired' which everyone can define for herself, but I think sometimes it's just too much of an obvious copycat action which, again, is a no-no for me. Anyways, in this particular leather dungarees-ish case, I literally count the days and hours till the postman rings the doorbell and I can tick it off my wish list, so I say: BRAVO, ZARA, BRAVO. What do you think?

revision: just received the parcel and must say, I was nothing but disappointed. I know online orders are always kinda risky, especially when we talk about leather-ish items but in this particular 100% lambskin - as they say, mind you - case, I highly doubt the given information which is totally annoying and in fact, stinks. They do kinda fit, the service is great but -- dollars to doughnuts -- the cute little plastic lamb died for nothing!

PREPARATIONS

for summer. Today is another super sunny day, already baked in the sun yesterday and well, if we can't be at Coachella right now, this slightly compensates, at least. And here're another two companions for spring and summer: 1) Kiehl's Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream with Vitamin C and SPF 50 which kinda smells weird but in fact, will protect the skin I'm in; 2) a much discussed exposé novel called 'Evil Bitches' about a young fashion editor that definitely reminds of the famous devil and Prada story but takes place in Germany, which I find very interesting as we all know what magazine (c'mon, 'InSider'?) they're actually talking about. So of course, I do have a peculiar interest in reading the book and wonder if I'll recognize any characters I met last summer during my internship, but above all I'm looking forward to an enjoyable, yet spicy reading.

that work. For a day trip I like to dress very casual and laid back, yet want to look nice and fashionable as you never know what the day brings. First of all, it's -- like almost always -- advantageous to go with layers, but especially in April. So what we have here is a simple, but classic denim-plus-tee-plus-oversized-cardigan-combo topped off with a classic parka, some cat eye sunnies and a Speedy -- added some monk-ish shoes to break the predictability (ballerinas would have been the obvious footwear, I guess). Must say, I hardly use the Speedy as an everyday bag anymore - not only because it seems everyone whether male or female or whatever in Switzerland carries something Louis Vuitton-ish around, but also because I tend to overload. Anyways, it definitely still is a great companion on day trips for the simple just mentioned reasons: a) you can carry a lot - maybe I should get a shoulder strap? - and b) as in Switzerland, no one's gonna be interested in robbing you. Haha. Just kidding!
