Princess Elizabeth’s early years were shaped by a relatively peaceful and private childhood, spent enjoying time with her horses and dogs and with little expectation of one day becoming sovereign. That changed dramatically in 1936 when the abdication of her uncle, King Edward VIII, led to her father, Prince Albert, becoming King George VI. At just ten years old, Elizabeth became heir presumptive, a moment that reshaped the course of her life.

Following her father’s sudden death in 1952, she ascended the throne and reigned until 2022, becoming Britain’s longest‑serving monarch. Across seven decades of social, political, and technological transformation, she came to embody stability, continuity, and a deep sense of duty. Her unwavering commitment to public service earned her lasting respect and admiration both at home and across the Commonwealth.

These Tristan da Cunha stamps are part of a series (that includes Ascension Island, Bahamas, Falkland Islands and South Georgia) celebrating the birth of this much loved and respected monarch. All of the portraits are by one of the most influential British photographers of the early twentieth century, Marcus Adams, who is himself best remembered for his intimate and humane portraits of the British Royal Family.

Royal Mail, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP), has today revealed images of a set of 12 new stamps that celebrate the 25^th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

The main set of eight stamps features a montage from the film trilogy celebrating iconic characters from across the franchise. British actors who played the characters featured are Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Dominic Monaghan as Merry, Billy Boyd as Pippin and Christopher Lee as Saruman.

The stamps also include hidden messaging – only detectable when using a UV light – showing Elvish writing in a ring shape.

Dr. Satyendra Kumar Agrawal is no more

I was very much shocked when I got a message from Mrs. Jeevan Jyoti about demise of Dr. Satyendra on 21^st of this month. It took me a long time to accept, especially as I got his last mail on 20^th of this month as Mrs. Jyoti also got his mail on the same day.

I was in touch with him from more than 25 years, although personally met him couple of times only. He was a great well-wisher not only for me but for all philatelic fraternity in the country. He always guide and inspired me to continue publication of “ITS Stamp News”, whenever I feel to discontinue the same. He selflessly wrote various articles not only for our magazine (almost for every issue) but also contributed for various other journals & bulletins in the country. He has vast knowledge about philately and has good command on his writings. He was also an excellent Cartoonist and contributed for various forums with his simply line sketches, which means a lot.

My heartfelt condolences to his family members ...May his soul rest in peace and may god give strength to bear this loss to all his friends and family members. He may be far away from all of us now but his writings and contribution for all of us, remains in our mind always.

Illustrated picture postcards on “Gotthard 2016” stamps

Two Picture Postcards, depicting its two locomotives starting at the railway Station at Esterfeld and at the last railway station at Bodio, show the coloured stamp imprints on the reverse, with the landscapes as seen at these two Points. These showing the locomotive 176 440 FS on issued for Erstfeld Railway Station & the other showing locomotive 2000 N0. 176 440-7 on the postcard issued for Bodio Railway Station. Also the printed stamps on the reverse of the postcards, worth one Frank, show the Mail “Cargo” & Passenger Engines. The picture postcards with stamp-imprint are valid for correspondence within Switzerland.
