Times have changed and now-a-days even children from the age of 7 and up are starting to develop an interest in tech gadgets. Gadgets are most popular amongst kids are handheld video game portables, the iPod, and now the iPad. With the ease of use of the iPad, all children need to do is have their parents install the games they’d like to play and they’re all set. Kids can easily browse through their games & apps and play as they please.

Now with this new app for iPad called ZillyDilly, kids can safely browse through selected websites that allows them to play, learn, and interact. Parents can be safely assured that every website their child browses through the app is safe and appropriate for kids.

ZillyDilly has great features that will make sure your child’s media experience is easy and fun too! These features include an easy navigation by different sections called “friends” located on the top right corner of the app. Each “friend” has a name and each friend has its own set of websites to show you. There’s a friend for family relationships, a friend for socializing, value of education, education enrichment, and entertainment.

Another great feature on ZillyDilly is the color coded time buttons. Under each friend in the navigation menu is a little circle. This circle changes color from green to orange to red. The green light indicates that you have a lot of time left to spend with each “friend”, the orange light indicates that you are almost out of time, and the red light indicates that you have to stop spending time with your “friend”. Then when the light under the calendar icon turns red, it indicates that you have to use the app next week because you ran out of time with all your “friends”.

This is a really useful feature for kids because it gives them a time limit so kids aren’t using the internet all day and have time to get other activities done offline like playing with real friends. The point of the app is to make it fun and easy for kids to browse through the internet in a new and safe way.

The app was created by psychiatrist Dr. Eitan Schwarz, and I got the chance to ask him some questions about the app that will give you a better understanding on what the app’s goal is.

1. What inspired the idea of ZillyDilly?

ZillyDilly is the embodiment of the original ideas in my book “Kids, Parents, and Technology: A Guide for Young Families” that evolved as I was researching play therapy with children and online devices and technology devices, and counseling their families. As a child psychiatrist, I am hyperaware of the emotional and intellectual needs of developing children, so I tailored my ideas to the development process and family needs, and created a system that helps a parent or educator customize the Internet for each child.

2. What aspects of the app allow you to believe that ZillyDilly will be a great educational app?

ZillyDilly is very educational for parents, particularly in my commentary and structuring an approach to media consumption they can use with all media. This approach starts with appreciating the developing mind/brain and its needs in the home and school environments from infancy through teens. So parents become educated and empowered and then given the tool to implement what they have learned.

In terms of being educational for the child, the whole Internet becomes curated to be the best experience and then becomes a potential classroom. I also educate mental health workers and therapists in a chapter about using technology in therapy with children to learn the place of media in their schedule, time management, and that entertainment is only a small part of technology media experience. They also learn to collaborate at home with family members, and social-emotional learning takes place in terms of developing values, family relationships, social skills, and responsibility. ZillyDilly enables parents to introduce youngsters to technology and the Internet, and then see them through childhood as their needs change and responsibility increases, ultimately to be not dependent on media.

3. How safe is ZillyDilly for kids who are just learning to use the internet?

Parents are in total control of the online experience and we offer no options that we think may be unsafe. In addition, we give parents a chance to visit sites and inform them with pop-ups of any particular issues on a site.

4. Are there any new upcoming features of this app?

Of course! And they are absolutely mind-blowing. We hope to excite kids, families and educators now, and add more exciting features later.

In conclusion, ZillyDilly is a great new iPad app now available in the app store for children who are starting to use technology. ZillyDilly provides an easy, clean, and fun experience for kids of all ages when it comes through browsing through internet media. Download ZillyDilly for your child today!

Many of you who use Read It Later (the mobile/web app that allows you to save articles to read offline later), may have noticed that the app has had a HUGE update. By that I mean, the app changed it’s interface, added some new features, and of course changed it’s name!

The app’s design is now much simpler and looks a lot more compact compared to the previous version. The image on the left is what Read It Later used to look like and the picture on the right is what Pocket looks like now. (Click Images to Enlarge)

Some of the app’s new features include the ability to save articles from 300 apps including Twitter, Pulse, and Flipboard. This offline article reader is the first to develop such a useful feature. Saving articles from Twitter will always come in handy for me. I’m always browsing through tweets, finding article links, and having to keep the article open in Safari so I may read it later. Plus, many people love Flipboard (a popular news reader app available in the Apple App Store) and since Pocket can now save articles from this app, Pocket will most likely be boosting up it’s user base! Another great feature added is the ability to now save videos!

So why did Read It Later, “Pocket” the name? Well, simply just re-branding. In my opinion, this is just what Read It Later needed. With already 4.5 million registered users, Pocket will become even bigger. With it’s new name, it’s new design, and new app integrations, it’s definitely making a comeback!

By the way, here’s a quick tip. If you’re already a Read It Later user and have the bookmarklet saved on your phone, all you need to do is change the name to Pocket in your bookmarks and everything still works the same. I tried it on my iPhone and I can save stuff without having to reinstall anything.

Today I’m going to talk about how great I think this start up could be. This QR coding app (read my review on the app here) is currently only available in the Apple App Store. QRawr can’t expand their app to other phones because the company does not have enough funds to do so.

In my previous post about QRawr, I stated how I signed up to receive free stickers. Well, guess what? Just a couple weeks after I signed up, they came in the mail along with a friendly letter. I thought it was so cute how they mailed me a couple of stickers and after reading the letter, I was sold that this was a great start up! They may not have enough funds, but they do care about their users and it’s great how they’d still like users to use this app.

QRawr may not be the most popular QR code app out there, but it’s the only app that makes QR coding social! I honestly think that this startup will be great. They’ve proven to me how dedicated they are about their app. They’ve shown how friendly the QRawr team is and how they care about their app’s users even without the funds needed.

I hope this post will show that even if you don’t have much money, if you are dedicated, then keep doing what ever it is you’re doing because chances are, you could make it big!

When ever an Apple product launches, there is always a load of buzz along with a rise (or should I say bigger rise) in sales for Apple. Today Apple launches the new iPad. Not an iPad 3, but simply just an iPad.

The iPad’s new features include a much clearer retina display, a 5 mega pixel still camera (now called iSight), HD video recording in 1080 pixels, and the A5X chip with quad core graphics. Meaning, the images on this iPad is 4 times clearer than the iPad 2. Plus, Apple claims that the iPad has much more battery life. (Up to 10 hours).

Also, how can I forget the feature everyone’s been wanting on their iPads. This iPad is 4G LTE compatible! This iPad is told to be faster, sharper, clearer, and is the most easiest to use when compared to the previous versions of iPad. This version of the iPad does include a personal hotspot unlike other iPads. And, features like iOS, iCloud, and voice dictation are definitely included.

So why did Apple name this product just “iPad” and not “iPad 3″? Many say it’s because it would allow the iPad 2 to keep selling as well as the iPad. This way the iPad 2 doesn’t seem like an old tablet nobody wants, but rather another option if the consumer would rather choose a more affordable iPad. However, I think Apple did this on purpose in order to keep their place in the competition of which tablet is better. In other words, instead of buying an iPad 2 and iPad 3, you are now simply going to by an iPad rather than a Samsung Galaxy Tablet or Blackberry Playbook. I think that it’s great Apple finally broke it’s chain of numbering all their products. They are actually marketing more effectively when they are selling an iPad rather than selling an iPad 1, iPad 2 & iPad 3. Simply naming it an iPad gives this tablet a more demanding appeal.

Would I buy this product? (Do I even have to answer?) Let’s be real, almost everyone loves Apple’s products and over the years Apple has not failed to disappoint. Apple has been doing great since it started and it’s doing better. Personally, I’m still amazed by my iPhone 4, and getting an iPad would be a huge deal. For now however, I’d rather stick to my laptop and mobile phone and I don’t want to start using a tablet. (But, hey it would be nice).

Planning to buy the new iPad? Go for it! The price starts at only $499 and if you’re not exactly thrilled for the new iPad, but still want an iPad. The iPad 2 is only $399 now!

From using your Polaroid to snap and share instant physical photos to various mobile and tablet apps that allow you to take professional photos and post them on your favorite social networks. I found this new photo sharing app that takes photo sharing to a whole new level.

Pinweel was just recently launched and has already gained thousands of users from all over the world. The app’s main purpose is allow users to share group photos in a new kind of way. With Pinweel, you create a photo album, name it and choose a privacy level, invite friends to view and/or add photos to your album, add and edit photos, and then you’re all set.

Creating a photo album is easy, type in a name, set a privacy level, and lastly, invite friends. Pinweel offers 3 main levels of privacy. Level 3 is Private in which only invited friends can view and add photos. Level 2 is Public in which everyone on Pinweel can view, but only invited friends can add pictures. And, Level 1 is open in which everyone can view and add photos. Pinweel thought of 3 great privacy options to choose from that will assure you that your photos are being viewed by only the people you want and your group’s pictures are only being added by those you allow.

The app also allows users to choose from a variety of photo affects similar to those of Instagram and much more vibrant than the photo effects of Path. Select a picture already taken or take a new picture, edit using Pinweel’s photo effects, and upload.

Once uploaded the photos will be seen as specified by your privacy settings. Create as many group photo albums as you like and upload and share as many photos with your family and friends. Plus, you can browse through popular albums, check your activity feed for new comments or likes, and follow your friends! This easy to use app is highly recommended for people who love sharing photos and essential for anyone who wants a place where they can share different photos with different groups of people in their life, all in one app!

In my opinion, I love this app. Pinweel makes it easier for me to share photos of my family only with family members and the pictures from last night’s event with only those who were there. With Pinweel I can share all of my photos with all the social groups in my life. This photo sharing app is both unique and user friendly. Check it out in the Apple App Store and start sharing!

When it comes to computer programs, mobile apps, and web extensions and their time to update, a lot of people refuse to keep updating programs. I’ve seen it happen a lot. I for one update all my programs, apps, and all the other necessary stuff.

Many people don’t like updating because it either disrupts what they’re already doing with the program, it takes too long, and the most popular, I just updated this program, why do I need to do it again?

Often times most people don’t realize that these updates are meant to help you and fix bugs. Even the most minor bug need to be fixed in order to keep everything working fine. And all great programmers and app developers make sure to fix each and every one. Programmers use the updated feedback to continue improving their software and provide better service for all it’s users.

Updating may take a while, but trust that it will help whether you see an improvement or not. I will admit, there have been cases in which updating an application has caused it to not work properly. When that happens, report it and the programmers will have an update ready soon.

Updating is a good thing, it creates a learning process for programmers as well as better tools for it’s users. So, next time you see an update for a program, you know what to do.

Productivity is really essential now a days. With these kind of times, life only gets stressful and stressful and well you just can’t seem to actually organize your life and your projects. I too confess that I’m highly not organized. Yet, I found some great apps and tools to make sure that I get the most out of my day.

This is not a post telling you about what apps and tools to use. (If you’d like to read about that please click here. ) This is a post informing you on how productivity tools and apps are being used by millions of people and they’ve become so much more popular than social networks. (People being productive, not social…that’s not normal!)

If you haven’t noticed, Facebook hasn’t been at the top of it’s game. It’s doing really well, just not doing amazing like it used to and as much as it pains me to say Twitter is the same thing.

With that said, have you noticed all these productivity and organization tools and apps starting up? A recent one I’ve blogged about is Wunderkit. It’s one heck of a great productivity tool! Plus, other apps like Smartr Contacts in the Apple App Store, Clear also in the App Store, a new version of Microsoft OneNote for mobile phones, and many more have been updated and added as mobile apps and web tools.

There’s tools for organizing projects, notes, documents, tasks, to-do lists, contacts, photos, your social and work life, you name it! There are so many different applications to be productive with and use to organize your life. It’s really starting to become a popular trend and it’s getting bigger and bigger with all these new start ups!

QR codes are being placed everywhere from posters, ads, to food items. These codes are used so consumers everywhere can instantly scan the code with their smart phones and instantly be able to see a web page, text, picture, video, or even direct a consumer to an online shop.

There are many QR scanning apps out in the Apple App store as well as Android Market and Nokia’s Ovi Store. However, no QR scanning app does more than scan and redirect.

Recently, one of my friends told me about this app called Qrawr. An app using QR codes to create and share pages for basically anything. The app basically allows you create your own QR codes for a website, an inanimate object, or what ever you want and then creates a page or “tag” for you. That page is where your QR code leads to and who ever scans your code can post text, locations or pictures on to your page’s wall.

Qrawr uses stickers of QR codes that are each unique even if you create a tag online. Each unique sticker code can be placed anywhere that people will see, scan, and start commening on. The app’s purpose was to create conversations on inanimate objects. For example, let’s say you saw a new CD in stores from your favorite artist, but you’re not sure you want to buy it. Place one of your Qrawr stickers on it, (Hopefully, that won’t be vandalizing things that aren’t yours) scan it, give it a title and a comment, and walk around the store for a bit. Now, that code is there to scan on that CD and anyone who passes by can access that page you just created. After a little while just check your page and see what people think of it or recommend instead. What just happened? You created your own little discussion page on a CD you’re planning to buy by just placing a sticker!

I tested out this app and thought it was really cool! I made a tag/page for It’s Technologic and I can’t wait for all of you to scan and try out this app!

Plus, if you tweet about Qrawr with your Twitter account and fill out a form, they may send you some stickers. I did and I’m hoping I’ll get them soon. This app doesn’t have many users, reviews, or fans. However, I can see major potential in this app. It combines social networking and code scanning in a very fun and communitive way.

Scan my QR code and comment on this post or It’s Technologic in general. Download Qrawr, sign up for an account and scan your first QR code!
