Fast and Furious 7 is a 2015 American action film. It is the sequel to the 2013 film Fast & Furious 6 and the seventh installment in the Fast & Furious film series. The film was written by Chris Morgan and directed by James Wan. It stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Jason Statham. With the previous three installments being set between 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), Furious 7 is the first film of the series to mostly take place after Tokyo Drift.

The film marks the final appearance of Paul Walker, who died on November 30, 2013, with filming only half-completed. After Walker's death, filming was delayed for script re-writes, and his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker were used as stand-ins to complete his remaining scenes. Furious 7 was released on April 3, 2015. It is released in 3D internationally.

There are many creative ways to recycle old vehicles in a way different than simple disassembling and melting their metal compartments. The following design is an excellent example for that

It is a project by Hagit and Tali, two women designers from Israel who were inspired by various Do-It-Yourself ideas.

The bus they purchased from a transport company is old, inactive, 36,5 meters long “Dan”. There is a kitchen inside the bus that reminds of an American diner place taken from some movie. Above one of the wheels is placed a kitchen plot with everything needed for cooking. On the other side, right against the plot and above the other wheel has a table with two vinyl coated benches.

Although the bathroom is not “huge enough to ride a horse inside”, however it provides a space sufficient for the inhabitant’s every day needs. The bathroom features a shower, a toilet built on the wheel and a sink with a wooden cabinet.

The interior is finalized by a comfy bedroom at the end of the bus. The double bed incorporates the back seat of the bus, and there is also a wardrobe inside the bedroom

Lamps replace former air conditioning vents along the bus interior. It is expected that boilers and air conditioner will be added later.

First Commercial Jetpack Set to Arrive this Year February 24th

Jetpacks have been the dream of futurists worldwide and now 2014 is set to be the year we finally see commercially available products. New Zealand based Martin Jetpack Company have demonstrated its latest P12 prototype and have received full certification from the Civil Aviation Authority for manned flights.

The jetpack is powered by a two-stroke V4 engine producing maximum speeds of up to 74 km/h and can be flown for 30 minutes on a full tank of fuel. It stands at roughly 2m and weighs in at 180kg when manned. While traditional jetpacks have focused on being powered by jets of escaping gas, Martins design uses a gas engine with two ducted fans operating at 200 horsepower . The device can be manned by a pilot or even remotely flown and due to the devices low-weight, it does not require a pilot’s license. Users will however be obliged to take part in a Martin Jetpack training programme.

First Responder Jetpack

Test flights have flown at altitudes exceeding 800 feet and therefore, safety is a key factor of interest in the design. A carbon fibre composite frame offers lightweight, strong and rigid protection for the pilot and as the fans are ducted, there is no risk of coming into contact with exposed blades. Furthermore, the jetpack comes equipped with a ballistic parachute that can provide rapid chute opening in the undesired event of catastrophic failure at such low altitudes.

Martin Aircraft Company hope to start providing the first commercial products by the end of 2014, mainly to response services such as the fire service, army, search and rescue and other emergency services. Chief executive Richard Lauder said: “This could be life-saving stuff. For us this is an excellent commercial step.”

The company hopes to offer personal jetpacks by late 2015. Jetpacks emerged from science fiction in the 1920s but have yet to see a successful commercial ‘take-off’. Although practical uses for a personal jetpack seem limited, they would certainly be beneficial for dodging heavy traffic and some general damn good fun!

Dinner in The Sky – Something Different than Your Usual Restaurant

What is the most common type of restaurants? If we neglect the differences in the kitchen, this is mostly a space restricted by few walls and containing lots of tables and a bar. A garden or a terrace could eventually make the place more diverse, and the beautiful view of a nearby mountain or beach could make the experience unforgettable. But it doesn’t change the fact that it is a restaurant like any other.

But what about having a dinner on a table hanging at an altitude of 50 meters? “Dinner in the sky” makes such thing possible. This is a 9 meters long and 5 meters wide platform lifted by crane at a height between 40 and 50 meters. This platform supports 22 customers and 5 crew members who serve the clients from a rectangle in the middle of the table. The table could be compacted for transportation to width of 2.5 meters and 6 meters length. The table without people, beverages and food weighs around 5 tons and could be loaded to 7 tons.

Seats are 22 and have angle of rotation of 180 degrees, customer safety is guaranteed by 4-points seat belts. The whole thing is lifted by 120-ton crane with 5 axes. Dinner in the sky requires area of 30 meters for deploying and it needs two hours of preparation. The facility is detached for an hour.

The facility offers several different options such as TV screens, sound system, lights, heating (I am curious how exactly heating is provided?) and custom banner. It is stated that the facility is supplied with toilets which are located on the ground. Although it takes just a minute to go down, it may become some sort of annoying to go up and down too frequently.

The company offers also “Marriage in the sky”, “Lounge in the sky” and “Showbiz in the sky”.

Super-soldiers are About to Arrive Soon

T.A.L.O.S. embodies at some level the idea of the perfect soldier: stronger, faster, and invulnerable to bullets. It stands for Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit and probably no one will be surprised that this is an experimental concept for the US army.

So, what are the features that make this suit so special? At first, it will have biometrics panel to monitor soldier’s vital indications such as pulse, skin and core temperature and hydration level. However, the main purpose of the suit is to protect the soldier from bullets. It will use so called “liquid armor” developed by MIT. You might ask “How does a liquid protect from bullets?” The special thing about this armor is that the liquid turns into solid material in just a few milliseconds. The only condition is to apply electric current or magnetic field to the liquid.

T.A.L.O.S. will also feature night vision goggles and on board computer that will provide significant combat information and analysis to the soldier. It is unknown what is exact price and when it will come to real service.
Although it reminds of the Iron Man combat suit, it is still at development phase and obviously far away from the Robert Downey’s hero suit. But who knows what will happen in the future?

G-Cans: World’s Largest Flood-Prevention Complex

The G-Cans project is the largest flood protection in the world. Its official name is Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel, but it is most known as G-Cans Underground Temple because of its support pillars and interior that reminds the visitor of a giant cave. The purpose of this facility is to protect the city of Tokyo from floods. The northern edge of G-Cans touches Kasukabe, a city located in Saitama Prefecture, 30 km north of Tokyo. The necessity of building such facility originated from the danger of overflowing of the rivers and main waterways during typhoons and rain periods.

In fact, the G-Cans Project collects the flood water from several rivers around Tokyo, such as Oochi Kotone, Arakawa, Kuramatsu and Nagakawa, and transports it safely to the Edogawa River. This “exhaust river” begins as a split from the Tone River and has several cities on its way to Tokyo Bay. Thanks to this complex that cost $2 milliard, the Tokyo district settlements are saved from flooding. According to the official information, “The facility is capable of withstanding a once-in-200 years flood.”

The G-Cans complex was built for 17 years, between 1992 and 2009. It has six general points – 5 concrete silos with 32 m diameter and 65 m height, and the main facility known as “The Temple” – a huge water tank with 59 pillars with height of 20m. The Temple is more than twice shorter than the other silos – 25.4 m, but it takes several times larger area with its length of 177 m and width of 78 m. It weighs roughly 500 tons. The Underground Temple has connection to 78 10MW pumps and 14 000 hp turbines that are able to transfer around 200 tons of water per second to the nearby Edogawa River. This river is located at lower altitude than the Japanese capital, crossing the Kanto Plain though the middle just 20 meters above the sea level.

The Temple and the other silos are connected via 6.5 km long and 10.6 m diameter tunnel constructed 50 m below the surface that spans between Showa in Tokyo and Kasukabe in Saitama. When flood occurs the water is filling the silos consequently and the final point of the water “journey” is the Temple, from where it is pumped out to the river. The whole process is observed by a control room.

The underground canal was built by using shield tunneling technology. The essential idea of this technology is a reinforced solid frame to be pushed through a soft ground. This prevents the ground collapsing and allows for building a tunnel within the frame. Of course, mud and soil are excavated from the inside of the frame so that the building could start. The tunnel grows in length by repeating the process until the tunnel is completely built.

The G-Cans complex has no water inside during the dry months so it is used as a tourist attraction. Stairs fixed to the silo walls allow the access to the tunnel. However, if you’re a foreigner in Japan and want to see it, you’ll need a Japanese-speaking friend because all explanations are on the local language.

Although it can not match the original, the Mazur‘s F1 provides pretty good performance. The replica is powered by Audi V8 engine that allows top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h). Brakes are from Mercedes.

“Many people will literally stop and stare and take a proper look at it. They will ask what model the car is. Even if it’s just a replica, it looks like the real deal.” Mazur said.

2013: The year of the drone

Drone helps save a man’s life

Drones are often in the news for controversial events, such as their use in firing missiles on suspected terrorists or in surveillance of the public. But every now and again we get stories of UAVs of protecting or even saving lives, such as last May when a quadcopter was used to help rescue a man from freezing to death in Canada.

On May 9, at 12:20 am, the Saskatoon RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle rollover in the countryside at near-freezing temperatures. Though the car was found, the driver, who was lightly clad and had lost his shoes in the accident, was nowhere to be seen. An air ambulance helicopter was called in and the crew used a night vision system to conduct a larger aerial search. When that also proved fruitless, the RCMP brought in the detachment’s forward-looking infrared (FLIR) camera-equipped Draganflyer X4-ES quadcopter.

Built by Saskatoon-based Draganfly Innovations, the X4-ES was set to work and when the 25-year old driver, who was wandering lost, made an emergency call from his mobile phone, the police were able to use his phone’s GPS coordinates to locate his general position two miles (3.2 km) south of the accident site. Sent to the area, the X4-ES was able to pinpoint the driver’s heat signature, allowing emergency services to recover the now unconscious man before he suffered what could have been fatal exposure.

Submarine UAV launch

December 5 saw a drone launched from an underwater US Navy submarine. The US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) launched the all-electriceXperimental Fuel Cell Unmanned Aerial System (XFC) from the Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Providence (SSN 719) using a system that allowed the drone to be deployed without modifications to the boat, or requiring it to surface.

The XFC unmanned aircraft was developed by the NRL in less than six years from initial concept to current stage. It is all-electric and powered by a fuel cell that allows it to stay aloft for more than six hours. According to the NRL, the UAV is relatively low cost, flies at low altitude, and is designed for Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The craft has folding wings and is designed to be launched from a pickup truck or small surface vessel.

Launched using a “Sea Robin” vehicle, the XFC used its electrically-assisted take-off system to raise itself vertically out of the container, and after reaching operating speed and altitude unfolded its wings for horizontal flight. The XFC flew for several hours as it beamed back a video feed to the Providence.

AirMule

Move over Batman, AirMule is on the job – or soon may be, if its flight tests work out. The unmanned AirMule VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) prototype aircraft demonstrated its stuff this month as it flew autonomously in anticipation of a full mission demo. It’s made by Israel's Tactical Robotics Ltd., and can be flown either by remote control or autonomously. Among other things, it's intended for the evacuation of wounded personnel in war zones while under anti-aircraft fire.

With a payload of up to 640 kg (1,400 lb), and a potential top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph), what gives AirMule its Dark Knight vibe are the internal rotor blades contained within its body (as distinct from the shrouded props at the back). This design feature should allow it to land in tight or uneven areas where the open blades of a regular helicopter could be damaged by striking objects or, worse, people.

Full mission demonstrations are planned for next year using a second prototype now under construction.

Amazon's Prime Air

We knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Once quadcopters were able to lift more than their own weight, they’d soon be put to work delivering everything from junk food to defibrillators. Now Amazon has got into the act with CEO Jeff Bezos revealing plans for Prime Air (an extension of Amazon Prime which guarantees two-day shipping) in a 60 Minutesinterview that would use drones to airlift purchases to customers who really can’t wait.

The planned service is restricted to loads of five pounds (2.3 kg) in small plastic containers slung beneath Amazon's custom-built "octocopter," so don’t expect Amazon to be dropping flat screen televisions on your doorstep by air. And with a maximum range of 10 miles (16 km) from one of Amazon's fulfillment centers, it will only service a somewhat limited customer base.

However, the biggest stumbling block is the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Amazon hopes to get legal clearance for the service by 2015, but that could be a tad optimistic. In the wake of the 60 Minutesstory, the FAA released a statement saying:

"So far, only a single commercial UAS operator has been approved to operate, and it is in the Arctic. UAS operators must abide by local, state and federal privacy laws. Over the next several years the FAA will establish regulations and standards for the safe integration of remote piloted UAS to meet increased demand. Autonomous UAS operation is not currently allowed in the United States."

Skyjack

And finally, we have the clearest proof of the arrival of the drone age with the supervillain's quadcopter, Skyjack: a drone designed to hijack other drones and take control of them. Hacker Samy Kamkar took a Parrot AR.Drone 2.0, customized it with with a Raspberry Pi, a USB battery, and two wireless adapters, then uploaded his software into it. The result is a drone that seeks out the wireless command signals of other drones, overrides them, then turns them into “zombie drones” under the control of Skyjack’s pilot on the ground.

What the effect of Skyjack and its descendants will have on the drone future, only time will tell, but if you’re waiting for you Amazon delivery coming via AirMule launched from a submarine, only to see it veer off at the last minute to join a drone armada bent on world domination, you can’t say we didn’t see it coming.

iPhone 5s vs. Galaxy S4

Size

The iPhone has fallen way behind Android phones in overall size (and screen size, which we'll get to in a moment). Today's iPhone 5s update didn't do anything to change that, as it's exactly the same size as 2012'siPhone 5.

That has the Galaxy S4 measuring in at ten percent taller, and 19 percent wider. The iPhone 5s is about four percent thinner.

Weight

The iPhone 5s' weight stays the same as its predecessor as well. It's 14 percent lighter than the Galaxy S4, though the GS4's much larger size actually has it winning in terms of relative weight (weight-to-surface-area ratio).

Build

Apple did announce one plastic phone today, but it wasn't the iPhone 5s. It sticks with the anodized aluminum from the iPhone 5. It is, however, available in some different colors, including gold (pictured above), along with "space gray" and silver.

Display

Here's yet another area that stayed exactly the same from last year's iPhone. Just like last year's showdown, the iPhone gives you just 63 percent as much screen area as the GS4 does.

The iPhone only packs in 35 percent as many pixels as the Galaxy S4 does, but it's hard to come down too hard on that 326 pixel per inch Retina Display. When looking at these two phones, we're really comparing "plenty sharp" to "ridiculously sharp."

The iPhone 5s' screen uses IPS technology, while the GS4's is a Super AMOLED.

Processor

Apple hasn't told us much about the technical specs of that A7 chip, but it has the same two cores and 1.3 GHz clock speed as its predecessor. It also brings the 64-bit architecture that Apple told us all about. It's the first smartphone to jump into the realm of 64-bit computing, but we don't really know what that means for performance just yet.

RAM

The iPhone 5s also retains the same 1 GB of RAM found in the iPhone 5.

Storage

Internal storage options are equal, but the GS4 also packs a microSD card slot. The GS4 also likely hogs more of its internal storage with its somewhat bloated TouchWiz UI.

Cameras

Megapixels probably don't mean a lot here. Apple spent a good chunk oftoday's event talking about the upgrades to the iPhone 5s' camera, but none of them had to do with pixel count. It does have larger pixels (similar to the HTC One), along with a dual LED "True Tone" flash, and a burst mode that automatically picks the sharpest shot.

Battery

Here's another confusing category, as Apple hasn't told us the capacity of the iPhone 5s' battery. We're left with an estimate, which probably won't mean much for now. Stay tuned for a more in-depth look at the 5s, to get the full low-down on battery life.

Fingerprint sensor

As the killer feature of the iPhone 5s, it's worth shining the spotlight on the phone's Touch ID biometric sensor. Press one of your fingers on the home button, and unlock your phone. The key is that nobody who doesn't have your fingerprints will be able to get in. Payments aren't supported (at least not yet), but you can authorize iTunes purchases with your fingertip. If it works as advertised, this will likely be the best combination we've seen of smartphone security and convenience.

LTE

As you'd expect, both phones pack the radios to ride speedy 4G LTE networks, as long as your carrier allows it. There is also a more limited HSPA+ version of the GS4, mostly sold in markets that don't have LTE anyway.

NFC

Near-field communication may not be a must-have feature for most smartphone shoppers, but if you're into things like bumping phones to transfer data, or using one of those rare NFC mobile payment services, then the GS4 has your ticket punched.

Software

The iPhone 5s ships with the new-look iOS 7, while the GS4 still runs Android 4.2, layered with Samsung's TouchWiz UI. The chasm between the two platforms has never been larger, as Samsung keeps squeezing in as many new features as it can, while Apple continues to focus on simplicity, highlighting a handful of new features every year.

Apart from the UI overhaul, our favorite new feature in iOS 7 just might be Control Center, a pane of quick settings toggles that you activate by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Of course Android loyalists will be quick to point out that their platform has had various versions of the same idea for years.

Wrap-up

If this comparison seems incomplete, you aren't crazy. We've spent months with the Galaxy S4, but we'll have to wait to put the hot-off-the-press iPhone 5s through the paces.

From where we stand now, though, we see some pretty stark contrast between the two phones. The GS4 has a bigger and sharper screen, but the iPhone might be a more comfortable size for smaller hands. The GS4 has an exhausting laundry list of features, but the iPhone 5s has one, that fingerprint sensor, that might trump them all.

But where we stand now is still only close enough to rap off some basic specs and features. It's a good start, but this story is just beginning. Stay tuned to Gizmag for much more on this front.

France Aiguille du Midi, France

There are many buildings around the world which we perceive as impressive because they’re built on places considered to be impossible for building, such as high mountains and large lakes.

One of these places considered to be breath-taking is Aiguille du Midi in France. This is a rocky peak in the French Alps with height of 3842 m, famous for the 360 degree views it provides to the visitors. The most often translation of Aiguille du Midi in English is “Needle of the Mid-day”, but it could be also “Needle of the South”.

If a traveler decide to see the peak he will have to start from Chamonix and move to Plan de l’Aiguille du Midi(2317m). The second level of the trip is elevating from Plan de l’Aiguille to the second station at 3777m. The final meters to the top are passed via elevator.

One of the most impressive things in such travel would be Téléphérique de l’Aiguille du Midi, a cable car created in 1955 with the purpose to transfer travelers from Chamonix to the peak. For over 20 years after its building it was the highest cable car in the world, now it holds the title for the world’s highest vertical ascending car.

However, you could always decide to climb the peak in the old fashion way – with ropes, hooks and your own muscles.

More than two thirds (71%) of the Earth surface is covered by water and considering this it seem normal for us to want to explore seas, oceans and any other natural water basins. The deepest point known on Earth is the Mariana Trench with total depth of 11 100m.

Compared to the Mariana Trench, Nemo 33, the deepest swimming pool created by human might look like a joke with its 34,5m (113ft) depth. However, this is an incredible architectural achievement and we must pay some respect to the engineers and architects who created the pool.

The facility is located in Brussels, Belgium. When a diver goes on his way to the bottom, at the 10th meter (33th foot) he will discover a complex of several artificial underwater caves and many windows which allow the outer visitors to see what happens inside the pool without diving. The pool is suitable for experienced divers, but there are also diving courses where you can learn how to dive.

John Beernaerts, a Belgian diving expert, is the “father” of Nemo 33 which could be used as recreational center and a place for film productions, as long as diving instructional facility. Nemo 33 contains 2,78 mln litres of non-chlorinated spring water and a Thai restaurant. The pool opened doors in 2004.

So, you already ask yourselves (probably) “What does a Twitter hotel mean?” Well, a lot of things, but Twitter themed rooms and drinks at first place, and a #SocialWave community created especially for the hotel’s guests to communicate with each other. There’s also a special Twitter application reachable only via the hotel’s WiFi network, through which quests can send private messages, see the online presence and current location of the other guests inside the hotel.

Friday evenings are dedicated to the pool parties, called #TwitterPoolParty, where the Twitter-inspired cocktails and drinks are served.
