This year we are sharing a stand with friends: producers we have long co-operated with, who share a common way of thinking about, producing and distributing wine.
With us will be: Eugenio Bocchino, Fattoria San Lorenzo, Le Due Terre, Sutor and our friends from Carretta/Millevini with some gems, Valentini amongst many.

There's nothing quite like meeting the person behind the wine to get an extra sense of place and personality that complement the aromas in our glass. It's this extra context that makes wine tourism so attractive. We're still applying the finishing touches to our new Agriturismo and look forward to welcoming guests before the summer's out, but in the meantime we've uploaded a short interview with Fabrizio Iuli that can give you a glimpse of what makes him - and his wines - tick.

I'm new to manipulating videos and can't find a way to put English subtitles on it yet. If you can follow Italian, sit back for seven minutes and let Fabrizio intoxicate you just as his wines would. Sometimes a smile can tell you so much more than a tech sheet: Fabrizio's story.

Agriturismo update

The work on the cellar continues full speed ahead. The two rooms (each with en suite bathroom) in the old attic are going to be a really special, romatic place to stay.

We have also recovered the French oak staves from the old (1850) casks that were in the cellar when we bought it. Those staves (suitably restored) will form the basis for the floor of the breakfast room and the tasting room... once it's laid we'll try to post some photos here. Watch this space...

We have just started work restoring the old house above our cellars to provide a relaxing place to stay amongst our vineyards and to enjoy our wines. We hope to be ready to welcome our first visitors in June.

Cinque Grappoli

Malidea 2003 has been given one of Italy's top wine awards: Cinque Grappoli (5 bunches) from the leading Italian wine guidebook Duemilavini 2006. (By the way, Barabba 2000 and Rossore 2001 won the same award in the 2004 edition!).

2005 Harvest & Winemaking

The 2005 harvest and subsequent vinifications, has gone very well for us. We started on the 2nd September picking the Pinot Noir for Nino, and finished with the Nebbiolo on the 2nd October.

Fortunately we were not affected by the heavy rains that started on the 2nd and affected the area for the whole week.

The macerations lasted around 10 days as usual, and right now the wines are undergoing malolactic fermentation.

2005 Harvest

We've finished green harvesting (removing excess grapes) and finally the rains have arrived.

2005 looks like it's going to be an excellent year, and the large temperature differences between night and day this month (between 13°C and 15°C) makes for perfect ripening. As of today, I'm delighted with the progress of the vineyards and the ripening of the grapes.
