Izzaiah Photography will be featured at the Picture 2Morrow photography exhibit in downtown Chattanooga this weekend! We won the award for the Places category with our Cellar image and have been offered space to exhibit and sell our work with all the other winners!

Since this is still rather new to us, we’ve never actually had any real prints made, and now we have to scrape together a collection of work in a weeks time. Needless to say, it has been insanity trying to at least get some smaller prints made and matted before this weekend.

If you are in the Chattanooga area this weekend come hang out at the North Shore with us! We will be outside of 2 North Shore from 11am-4pm both Saturday and Sunday. The map and details are below and you can find the Facebook event page here.

I recently stumbled across the concept of tilt shift photography from a random Lifehacker post about a DIY lens. These lenses can create images with selective focus and are often used to fake miniatures. I don’t have the money for an actual tilt shift lens, nor do I have an extra lens to use for the DIY project, but experimenting with Photoshop I was able to recreate the effect in a few images of downtown Chattanooga.

We snagged this FED 5C off eBay from a reseller in Ukraine. Apparently these 35mm rangefinders were once manufactured to be used by the KGB, but I don’t think this was their color of choice.

This puppy is all metal, all manual, and quite challenge to shoot with. The only readout you will find is an external light meter next to the hot shoe which I’ve learned uses a selenium cell on the front of the camera. These are not battery powered but powered by light like a vintage solar panel and cause a red needle to move to a value between 1 and 11. I’ve read most of these no longer work, but somehow ours is still alive and well. Now I just need to figure out how to use it.

We took this little guy downtown a few nights ago and expended a roll of film on the rooftop of the Bijou. We only had some old 200 ISO at the time but we still somehow managed to get some clear shots using some lengthy shutter speeds. Soooo… what do you think?

Another shot from my venture down 28th. This wasn’t exactly a favorite image of mine, but more of an experiment. I was initially drawn to this building because of it’s comedic value because all I kept imagining was Frylock, Meatwad, & Master Shake hanging out outside (perhaps I will Photoshop them in later). I decided to take a stab at HDR and got three quick exposures for later merging. Once I finally got the film back and scanned in, the Photomatix fun began.

This was one of the very first shots I took when Denise and I went out during out photography workshop with Gregg Albracht in Santa Fe, NM. It was an amazing opportunity and I suggest if anyone is ever planning a trip to Santa Fe and they have the slightest interest in photography they really need to check out his workshops website that currently offers group/private workshops as well as mentorships. Gregg took us to some amazing locations and provided creative criticism of our work as well as valuable insight into the business of photography from his experiences as a professional photographer in a city considered by many to be the art capital of the US.

Denise and I found this horse resting quietly in the barn while the others were photographing the horses running and playing outside. She mainly stayed against the wall facing the corner of her stall but we were able to catch her in the brief moment that she turned to look outside. At that same time an automatic bug spray system turned on and its mist provided a soft glow to the light entering through the stall doors. It was an amazing opportunity for a photo and I only wish I had a better camera at the time. Luckily Denise did, and she was able to get some great images as well (here and here).
