Hook:
Fuck the haters anthem
You know what to do
If you got some haters throw it up
Say FUCK YOU
If you got some haters
You know what to do
Throw the middle finger up
And say FUCK YOU
(Repeat)

Verse 1:
All theses haters hatin, cuz they aint got nathan
Sayin they spraying things that’s better than the words I’m layin
Face it you hate that you can’t even come close to me
No way no how can’t freesyle write or lace the beats
Don’t Speak like No Doubt I’m holidn it down gotta rep this proud
For everybody that’s got some haters turn this up and bump this loud
And throw the middle finger up and say FUCK YOU
You player haters really aint shit but some envious chumps and mark ass dudes
When I come through gotta hit em all up with this new trunk funk
When I dump on you punks with sum that’ll make your heart no longer thump
Or pump no blood cuz ya aint got love just heart of envy
To my face your friendy but behind my back another fake ass enemy
And I’m just begining while your ending I’m on the rise eyes on the prize
No surprise the p-h’er’s the type that’s most despised
In my eyes can’t take me of my path of righteousness
Didn’t your momma teach you any better nothin nice to say better bite your lips

Hook

Verse 2:
They hate me cuz they aint me wanna replace me
They too scared to face me so messages replacing
You hating my comeup but won’t runup you’ll get done up
To sum up I’m somewhat not the one to even try to fuck with
Bustin my words rushin in touchin haters leaving em gushen something
Your nothin quit frontin I’m hater huntin best be hushin
When Im speakin leavin em leakin eking into the devil’s reaches
I’m here to defeat the evilist leeches reachin to eat this
still cant see us they speechless while I’m preechin this real game
But me I will still pray that love will replace hate
And that you will be blessed by the highest Can’t fight this
But try it the light is exposing liers and all they’re hatred
It’s sacred like when man first knew he was naked for taken
Satan’s advice he’s had our hearts in a vice and we’ve believed his lies
But in my eyes I see a brighter day another way just think
If you replaced the hate with love I wouldn’t have to say

Blog post about starting my next project, my next mixtape, taking on new clients, and updates on advertising, marketing, and downloads.

It’s been a busy last couple weeks for me. I spent the greater part producing a mixtape for my friend Nique, which is all done and just needs to be mixed and mastered. I have also been working on some new beats for my next project. I decided I wanted to wait to start working on my album again until my studio is complete, but I decided to start working on my next Mixtape, which is un-named at the moment. My next mixtape will also serve as my demo, as I decided I want to get my music on the radio and also start performing live to promote my debut album “J-Xile”. Click through for more.

My next mixtape will be more like what my albums will sound like, with a more diverse style and sound than The One and Only, which featured mostly hard West Coast street bangers. I’ll still have a few of those as well, so for my hardcore fans, don’t worry. My next mixtape will be much more lyrical, and I plan on writing more songs than I did on the last one, which had almost half of the songs freestyle. It’s time for me to start living up to my potential, and I feel more focused and driven than ever. I had a hater tell me I wasn’t the best lyricist around on Facebook, and it lit a fire to get better for sure.

I mentioned that I was holding off production on my debut album until I complete my studio, but I am getting a major upgrade this weekend. I am getting the Digi 003 Console, which is a sound card interface and mixer for Pro Tools. The sound quality will be a major step up from the interface I am using, and having faders will help me mix my songs better as well. Up until now I’ve had to mix everything using a mouse, which is difficult when you have 30-50 tracks. The Digi will give me faders to use, and also make it so I can automate my mixes, making them sound much more dynamic and alive. I expect it to cut down on my production time and work flow as well, making it faster and easier to release songs.

I am taking on new clients for Beats, Production, and Engineering while I work on my mixtape and other projects. I am trying to get my name out there as a producer now that I have made a name for myself locally as a rapper. Speaking of which, my campaign to position myself as Portland’s best rapper is going strong as ever, with “We Out Here” my latest song release passing up “No Tearz” after only one month, with over 600 downloads. 95% of which were right here in Portland Oregon. My marketing campaign has brought a lot of haters and controversy, but I would have to say it’s been extremely effective on a such a small budget ($10 a day). Imagine when I start selling out shows and have merchandise for sale, it’s all going right back into advertising.
Blog post about assessing my strengths and weaknesses as a rap/hip hip artist.

Something I have always been huge on ever since I started making music is to constantly be improving. One of the ways I do this is assessing my strengths and weaknesses, and making my weaknesses one of my strengths. Everything I have done up to this point has been me learning and bettering myself. I look at it like warming up and practicing. I feel like every song I put out is better than the last, and as long as that continues I feel like I will achive my modest goals of success.

I would have to say my biggest strengths include making beats, freestyling, my flow, and overall production quality. I started out freestyling and it will always be something I use to keep my flow on point. I’m usually not as focused on lyrics when I freestyle, and more on how I flow to the beat. Making beats is definitely one of my most honed skills. I have my own signature sound, that I would define as a mix of Gangsta Rap with some southern influence. If you listen to my beats, you can tell my biggest inspirations are Dr. Dre, Lil Jon, Rap-a-Lot, and Three 6 Mafia. The ability to tie it all together as a producer is another of my major strengths. I feel like I have “the ear” for what’s good and what’s not. That’s something that can’t be taught, learned, or bought. You have it or you don’t in my oppinion. I wouldn’t put out anything I wasn’t feeling myself, and I know when shit is wack or a hit.

My biggest weaknesses and major focus for improvement from here on out is my content, what I’m rapping about. I have always been a fan of lyrical hip hop, especially Rakim, Nas, Eminem, 2 Pac at the top of my favorite lyricicts list. I feel like when I write a song, it is usually well thought out, with good punch lines, nice rhymes, and I usually stay on point with whatever the concept is. But the concept is what I feel like I need the most work on. I have been told this before, and I would have to agree. I’ve had some songs that were deeper, such as “No Tearz”, and a whole album that I scrapped because it was too dark, and I wasn’t happy with the overall sound.

Part of me wants to be a great lyricist like Rakim, Nas, etc. and the other part wants to be more of a rapper, like 50, Game, etc. It’s something I’ve always tried to balance, and will have to continue. I’d like to be a mix of both, kind of like Kurupt. He was a gangsta rapper, but he had good lyrics too. I also feel like there are a lot of lyricists out there, but not a lot of good rappers, and I’m trying to fill that gap. Anyone can write rhymes, but not a lot have their own style, sound, and swagger that is original. I have a long list of concepts I can write about, and my upcoming album will feature a much more diverse range of concepts than my mixtape, which is more of a represent it album.

I got some negative feedback of my Facebook fan page and it helped me want to work harder and make my lyrics one of my major strengths. Part of my marketing campaign is to possition myself as Portland’s best rapper, and some people aren’t going to agree with that. The main thing is that it’s working and I am getting a lot more downloads and visits because of it. When I look at the overall picture, I can do every asspect of making music, know how to constantly evaluate my talent for ways to imrpove, and I am becoming a pretty good marketer/promoter as well. To me the sky is the limit as far as what I can achieve. Thanks for reading this, sign in to leave a comment a let me know what you think. Jaime “J-Xile” Landers

My blog post about finishing up my mixtape, finishing my song "We Out Here," and moving on to other projects.

As I said in my last post, Getting Back to the Music, I am now getting back to working on music after most of my time has been spent on marketing. Tha One and Only is my current mixtape I have been working on, but in reality it is a collection of my best songs up until this point. While I still bump it like it’s the first time I’ve ever heard it, I feel like it is time to move on to my next project. I have one song I am finishing for it, a song I wrote back in 2008, We Out Here. We Out Here is a song that I gave up on after hours of recording and becoming frustrated with the result. Click through for the rest.

It started out as a collaboration between me and my homie DQ (West coast Affiliation, Slangin Them Thangs, Ride With Me Remix, Hustla’s and G’z), but I didn’t like the way it was turning out and decided to do it myself. Since then, DQ hasn’t been in the booth, which sucks because I feel like he is the most talented artist I’ve worked with, and some people even felt like he had more potential than me. It was a hard lesson for me to learn, not to be too critical and harsh when producing a song. Constructive feedback can be a great thing, but when it causes someone to stop rapping all together, well that’s not what I had in mind.

We Out Here has always been something I wanted to finish, but I had forgotten it for almost two and a half years up until I was browsing around my computer a week or two ago. I played it and knew I had to finish it. The beat is one of the best I’ve done, the concept was about hustlin and it’s a street banger, I had to finish it. So I am almost done with it now, I re-recorded the verses and it sounds a lot better than before, when it was recorded in a tiny walk in closet. The hook has given me the most trouble, and part of the reason I scrapped the song in the first place.

We Out Here was the first song I attempted to sing the hook on. Singing is something I’ve always have been good at, but to shy to show. I was selected in fourth grade by my music teacher to do a solo in front of the whole entire school (and their parents), to sing three different songs. It was probably my most nerve racking moment, staring at the seas of people and the bright lights. Anyway, it’s a simple song to sing but it’s just been hard to get down perfectly. The version I had done before is performed perfectly, but I’m not happy with the recording quality as it was recorded in the walk in closet.

So that is what I’m working on this week. I feel like I should have We Out Here done by today or tomorrow. I’m also going to do one more freestyle before moving on, I have to show off my new freestyle skills when focusing on not cussing. It’s bringing out a whole new side of me and making me think more when I freestyle instead of just flowing. My dream would be to be able to freestyle as good as I can write, and I think I can get there if I keep on working on it. I will most likely continue to develop my skills in both though. Keep an eye out for my next release We Out Here, and I will have more info on my next project in the next post. Thanks for reading this and all of the support. Jaime “J-Xile” Landers

Latest blog post about finishing up my website, getting back to working on music, and collaborating with other artists.

It’s been a long time since my last official song, Chillen With My Folks was released last July. I have spent the majority of my time since then perfecting my website, and building my brand through marketing on Facebook and Twitter. I feel like I am at a point where I am happy with the site and can now get back to making music and doing everything else I need to be doing. The top of my priorities for this week is to get the graphics done for my tee, it’s been pushed back so that I can finish the website. I am also still working on several new songs and beats, one of which I am hoping to release this next week, as I stated in my last blog post; The Life of a DIY’er . Click through for more.

I started somewhat mentoring someone I met off of Twitter. He messaged me wanting to collaborate and we met up and I gave him some good constructive criticism. I am really surprised with how many connections I have made through Twitter, I can’t keep up with all of the messages from people wanting to collaborate. One of the artists I have collaborated with in the past, my friend Dante, is coming through Tuesday and Thursday so we can work on beats for his album. Making beats for another artist other than myself will be a nice change, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we do together.

The changes I made to this site were incorporating ads, adding Facebook and Twitter icons at the top of the page, and making it easier for people to login by allowing people to connect through their Facebook, Twitter, and other accounts. I did this so people could login to comment easier, and so people can also stay updated at the same time. The majority of comments I was getting before were haters, and I wanted to make it harder for them to leave comments by making people register and login. Sorry to those that wanted to leave a positive comment, but now have to register to do so. Luckily it’s as easy as clicking two buttons, so register and let me know what you think.

My theory is that my actual fans will want to take the time to register, while the haters won’t. It sucks that I had to do that, but success always brings haters, and I have a lot of them. I look at it as a good thing though, they wouldn’t hate unless I was really talented, right? It’s funny that when people leave comments it achieves the opposite effect of what they wanted, instead of bringing me down, it just makes me realize that all of my hard work is paying off. So to the haters, thanks, and keep on hating…

My latest blog post about marketing, advertising, working on graphics for my T-Shirt, and working on a new song.

I’m feeling stretched pretty thin this week, with a lot of work to do on the website, finishing my t-shirt, and trying to finish multiple songs and beats. Sometimes I wish I could add about 10 hours to my day, but I realize I can’t. These days it’s about prioritizing my time and making sure the most important things get done first. My hard work is starting to pay off, as I am now getting a lot more traffic from search engines. I rank number one for “Up and Coming Rap” and several similar variations, which is huge for me.

I started marketing myself on Twitter this last week, which has built me several new relationships and brought me some new wonderful fans, even a few that want to collaborate from across the world. I never thought Twitter could be as good as it has been. My followers have jumped from 97 before marketing, to over 300 in just over a week. A lot of which are from my target market, which is important as I build my brand locally first. I’m still getting the hang of it, but I can see Twitter being a big part of my success in 2011.

Facebook is still my main traffic source thanks to advertising, and I have been working on tweaking my ads the past few days to make them more efficient. In the two months I have been advertising, my ad has been shown over 3.5 million times, and clicked on over 1000 times, also from right here in my target market. Today and yesterday has been spent trying to figure out how to get more for less on advertising, if all goes as planned I should be able to multiply my Facebook traffic by 5, while cutting my costs nearly in half. That would be very nice, as it isn’t cheap to advertise online.

I am realizing more and more that I need to get out and start performing though. Part of me wants to wait until i have some new music ready, but part of me wants to get it going and start performing with what I have. Don’t get me wrong, I love every song I have put out, but I also know I can do a lot better. My debut album is going to be nothing but the best that I can bring, and I can’t wait to get it out and start performing this year. I’m a little nervous about being on stage as I have always had stage fright during presentations and speeches, but I know that once I get out there and the music drops; it’s on. I visualize myself being a very good performer, and I can’t wait to show the world what I can do.

I should have a new song out by the end of the week, and I’m hoping to have the graphics done for the t-shirt as well. My biggest priority is getting the ads going, getting a song done, and getting the graphics for my t-shirt done this next week. Follow me on Facebook and Twitter to stay updated throughout the week, and don’t forget to sign up for my RSS feed, available by e-mail as well. Thanks for reading this and all of the support, I appreciate every one of my fans and visitors. -Jaime “J-Xile” Landers

My latest blog post and site update with my artist bio.

I am going to kill two birds with one stone and release my latest blog post and update my site with my artist bio at the same time. An artist bio is an overview of who I am as an artist, what my genre and style is, what I’m working on currently, and what my goals are. You can also find is here.

My name is Jaime “J-Xile” Landers and I am an up and coming rap/hip hop artist and producer from Portland Oregon. My sound could best be described as “Bangin’ west coast beats, with skilled lyricism.” I make beats, produce, engineer, rap, write, and freestyle as well. On top of my musical talents, I am also a talented web designer, graphic artists, and photographer. I built and maintain my own website and own my own indie music company as well, J LAND Entertainment.

My current projects I am working on are finishing my demo/mixtape and my debut album. My mixtape is a collection of my best songs since I have been a rapper, and will be my main promotional tool until I release my debut album. I also feature some of my best recent freestyles as well, which is my main method of exercising my rap skills. The other project I am working on is my debut album, self titled “J-Xile.” I am currently working on the beats and will write the lyrics, record, and mix the songs after they are done. After they are mixed I will then send the album off for mastering. My debut album will feature nothing but the best music that I can make, from the first track to the last.

I started making music in 2005, though I flirted with the idea many times before that. I downloaded a bunch of well known instrumentals and would play them back to back and freestyle for as long as I could, sometimes for hours. This is what made me develop my flow and core style and sound. My longest freestyle was over three hours long. The lyrics weren’t good, and I often repeated punch lines, but the point was to develop my flow and learn how to rhyme on the spot to the beat. I got tired of rapping over other peoples beats so I started making my own beats in FL Studio. Shortly after, I started writing songs and found that my lyrics were a lot better when I wrote, but that my flow wasn’t as good as my freestyle. After several written songs I can now rap my written lyrics as well as I freestyle. I made beats on FL for over five years up until recently when I got Native Instruments Maschine allowing me to make all of my beats and recordings in the same program, Pro Tools.

My current focus is getting my name out there locally while I finish my mixtape and album. I started advertising on Facebook in early November and I have gained many new fans in my target market in that short time. My goal is to build my fan base locally in Portland Oregon, then spread to the rest of the Northwest, then the West Coast, then nationwide. My main goals are to get my mixtape done, start performing, and then release my debut album this next year. After that I will release an album and a mixtape at least every year. At this point I prefer to stay indie so that I have complete control over my career, but I would consider a major deal that allowed me full artistic control and full publishing and performing royalties.

I am working hard on building my career and my fan base, and every day I feel like I am taking a step closer. The whole point of me making music is to make music that people can connect to and be inspired by. This is always in my mind as I work on my mixtape, my album, my blog posts, and my Twitter/Facebook updates. I’m committed to bringing you the best music that I can and I appreciate every one of my fans for your patience and support as I build my career from the ground up. If the love I have gotten from my fans is any indicator, I would say I’m on track to have a very successful career.
