It’s a great chance to help the club that graciously hosts our J24 program and to meet new people. Even pitching in a few hours is helpful. Things will get started at about 8AM so remind your crew to come on down.

As mentioned previously, Wednesday the 16th will be our race refresher/spring meeting at 1730 at PYC.

I hope you had a good winter and are ready for another fine summer of sailing.

Our season begins in earnest next month. Here are some things you need to know.

The first night of ‘racing’ will be May 16th, meet at 17:30 at PYC. Like last year, we will have a race management review and our spring meeting to go over some things. This is required. Boats that have 2 or more members of the team in attendance and present at 5:30 will be scored two first place finishes for the evening. All other boats will be scored DNC. Boats that have 4 or more members present will also be entered in a lottery drawing for one or more prizes that might include distillery products, etc.

Fleet launch will be on May 19th beginning at 10AM (note the time) at Handy Boat.

Dues will be the same as last year. $160 total = $100 dues plus $30 for the first Wed night series and $30 for the second Wed night series, payable to J24 Fleet 43. You may give or mail your check to our treasurer Erik Hayward, 20 Phillips Road, Falmouth, ME 04105. Individual boats will only start getting scored in the series after dues are paid.

First on the water races will occur Wednesday, May 23rd, first gun 1800.

We suggest you check your battery and running lights. More details to follow but we are planning a moonlight race at some point this summer. Not part of the series but it should be fun.

As you know planning is in the works for the Downeast Regatta is underway.  We have had a lot of success selling merchandise, especially shirts.
We are looking for some fresh ideas for the regatta shirt this year-so if you are at all artistic/graphic send us a design idea.
Parameters:
  • Shirt designs usually consist of about 3 to 4 colors
  • Shirts are usually colored so one of the colors can be the background color
  • Designs are usually done on the back of the shirt, if your design is elsewhere, let us know.
  • Design can be submitted in any format, most ideal is VECTOR ART
  • Please submit designs to Molly White mollyfrommaine@yahoo.com or 277Woodford Street, Portland, ME 04103 by June 1st so we can market the image in our event promotion.
  • The committee discussed incorporating lobster pots into the shirt but we are open to any ideas!
It would be great to get so many ideas that we will have designs for years to come.

2012 Slate of Officers: Thank you to the nominating Committee for finding us these three wonderful volunteers; Andrew Carey (Fleet Captain), Jeff Smith (Race Officer), Erik Hayward (Treasurer.) We will have a quick vote on the slate before we present awards.

Crazy Crock Pot Cook-Off: This year we are putting a new spin on our potluck, everything must be prepared and served in a crock pot!  Apps, Main dishes, Dessert all in a pot.  Prizes will be awarded for the masters of the following titles:
Most Meaty
Very Vegetarian
Decadent Dessert
Brilliantly Bites Size
Over The Top Original

Just a reminder that there will be no fleet haul out after the Downeast Regatta on Sunday the 11th.

We have a fleet haul out scheduled the following Saturday, September 17th starting at 8:00 am for $50.

There is a second haul out for those of you who plan to race fall series on October 15th. Starting at the same time/same price.

Hard to believe the season is coming to an end.
