My Mother's Apron with a new full style

In the 1950s it wasn't uncommon to sell things from the home. Wives did not work then, and to make pin-money would sell eggs or piano lessons, or like my mother, sewn goods. My brother and I, ten and eight respectively, would cart a small suitcase loaded up with a dozen or so aprons and a sales book, and go door-to-door. This design of this apron is based on measurements from one my mother made in the 1950s for us to sell. I think you'll find it just as useful today.

Now I have made My Mother's Apron with a full bib style.

Anna's Yamhill Market Bags

THE STORY: My great grandmother Anna was born in Silesia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in the late 19th century, and travelled to the United States at 16. The daughter of a flour salesman, it must have been natural that she would marry Paul, a baker. They first opened the Vienna Bakery in Manhattan, and then moved to Portland in the 1920s to open the Cottage Bakery at 34th and East Belmont. Some days, Anna used to go down to the old Yamhill Market downtown to shop and to chat with the other German merchants there. From pickles to pumpernickel to gossip, there was little you couldn't find there under the awnings of the old brick buildings of Yamhill Street. These bags are designed to carry anything from your knitting project to your daily produce; Anna
would have loved it.

New Year"s first order

The first custom order of the new year.

A needlepoint butterfly canvas turned into an Anna's Knitting Bag. I used an assortment of Kaffe Fassett and Martha Negley fabrics from my collection. Lined in another Martha Negley Geranium print with a double pocket and magnetic snap closure.

Also some finished some new hand knits. One Rikke Hat with rich Madelinetosh DK in Sequoia.

And another with the soft 80% merino wool and 20% silk Mrs. Crosby Carpet Bag in Squid Ink.

A perfect sweater to wear this Spring in the Drifting cardigan pattern. I used Quince Finch wool yarn in Chantrelle and Birds Egg.

Also just finished another lightweight cardigan. This one is the Floating pattern and I used KnitPicks Shadow wool in Oregon Coast Heather.

Dark and Stormy Oregon

Finished one of my latest knitting projects a Dark and Stormy Oregon cardigan. Used O-Wool Balance a cotton & wool blend yarn in the shade of Graphite. A nice textured color for a cabled textured sweater.

The pattern features small cables on each side of the front button band and a larger cable detail on the back.

Fall is filled with the last of the garden color. While the chrysanthemums are just starting, the roses and dahlias are saying goodbye.

and the Japanese Maples never disappoint for dramatic color.

but I have Spring bulbs tucked in for their winter nap to look forward to on a rainy day ahead.

Orchards on Bald Peak in the fall also from 1975.

In my garden now lovely dahlias. Sellwood Glory Dahlia (1951) from Portland's historic Sellwood neighborhood and all but disappeared from US gardens until Old House Gardens.
reintroduced it from the British National Collection in 2008.
