TechBargains.com, a leading deal aggregation website for electronic products, released its iPad 3 survey results, revealing that a surprising 48% of those surveyed will buy an iPad 3. Of the respondents, 58% want to upgrade their current tablet and 74% concede that no tablet compares to an iPad. The anticipated high price tag of Apple’s next iPad is the main reason 16% of shoppers will not buy the iPad 3 and why 35% remain undecided. The survey also found that more than half of owners of the recently released Kindle Fire will buy an iPad 3.

“When it comes to tablets, Apple’s iPad will continue to remain the leader,” said Yung Trang, President and Editor in Chief of TechBargains.com. “But what’s very interesting is that Kindle Fire was released just three months ago and yet more than half of Fire owners already know that they will, in fact, buy the iPad 3. This could be a commentary on consumer dissatisfaction with Amazon’s product or simply a message that the iPad’s user experience remains unparalleled.”

Kindle Fire vs. iPad 3
With the recent release of Amazon’s Kindle Fire, a surprising 53% will buy the iPad 3 (6% will wait in line on the release date, 17% will buy online on the release date, and 30% will wait and buy the iPad, but with no set time frame). The survey indicated that 85% of those Kindle Fire owners who will buy the iPad 3 want to upgrade their current tablet and 73% say no tablet compares to an iPad. Additionally, 31% of Kindle Fire owners are undecided about their plans to purchase an iPad 3 and 16% do not plan to buy the iPad 3 (of those respondents, 78% won’t buy an iPad 3 already own a tablet and 71% say iPads are too expensive).

iPad & iPad 2 vs. iPad 3
Of the survey respondents 66% of iPad owners and 56% of iPad 2 owners plan to purchase the iPad 3 which indicates consumer’s strong Apple loyalty and the eagerness to have the latest products available. Additional survey results indicate:

iPad Owners

35% are undecided if they will purchase the iPad 3

8% will not purchase the iPad 3 (of those 91% already own a tablet and 72% believe it’s too expensive)

iPad Owners iPad 3 Wish List:

85% want a quad core processor in the iPad 3, 80% memory card slot, 80% USB port, 76% want a better speaker

iPad 2 Owners

32% undecided if they will purchase the iPad 3

13% will not purchase the iPad 3 (of those 94% already own a tablet, 65% say iPad is too expensive)

iPad 2 Owners iPad 3 Wish List:

83% want a better speaker in the iPad 3, 83% quad core processor, 79% memory card slot, 77% USB port

Who is Buying the iPad 3?
The survey revealed that men (51%) are more likely than women (35%) to purchase the iPad 3. The main reason men and women were either undecided or were not going to purchase an iPad 3 was because they felt it was too expensive. On the other hand, the main reason men and women will purchase an iPad 3 is because they believe no other tablets compare to iPad. Additionally, the survey found that respondents ages 31-50 are most likely to buy an iPad 3.

Consumers’ iPad 3 Wish List
The survey included questions regarding what features consumers predict will be included in the iPad 3 and additions they wish Apple would make. The majority of people (67%) believe the iPad 3 will have an upgraded camera to record video in 10-80p and 8MP for high resolution photos. 92% of respondents predict the iPad 3 display will have an increased pixel resolution than the 1024 by 768 of the iPad 2, but people were split on what the new resolution will be. The display size and price of the iPad 3 will remain the same as its predecessor according to the majority of shoppers. Consumers also shared a wish list of features they would like to see included in the iPad 3. The results include the percent of people who want the following features:

    Quad Core Processor: 85%

    Better Speaker: 82%

    USB Port: 82%

    Memory Card Slot: 81%

    Less Reflective Screen: 72%

    Siri: 65%

Support for Thunderbolt (42%) and Multiple User (51%) accounts ranked low on wish list

“It’s clear from the wish list results that consumers don’t want the iPad 3 to be a slight improvement over the iPad 2; they’re looking for a significant leap in tablet functionality and specs from Apple’s newest device. That means addressing some elements that left users underwhelmed, like wanting a faster processor or a less reflective screen,” said Techbargains.com Editor Jeff Haynes. “The storage features from the wish list probably won’t be included, but those stats speak to the consumer’s desire for Apple to increase its storage options away from iCloud, especially if it wants memory intensive apps or initiatives, like the new textbooks through iBooks, to really take off.”

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D for the portable Nintendo 3DS™ system is now available. METAL GEAR SOLID fans can now explore the immersive jungle setting as it comes to life using the Nintendo 3DS glasses-free 3D imaging system.

Set during the Cold War of the 60s METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D sees series hero Snake infiltrating the Soviet jungle to bring back a scientist being held against his will. Beginning on the outskirts of a military base, the player must use Snake’s stealth skills along with the foliage and shade that the jungle offers as cover to infiltrate unseen. As the game progresses, old faces make unwelcome appearances and a series of terrifying boss characters must be defeated before leading up to a dramatic twist that brings Snake face to face with a key figure from his past.

“The new technology and graphics used in METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D for Nintendo 3DS™ are what make this release most exciting,” said Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “Fans of the original title will enjoy the new 3D and camouflage elements but will appreciate that the themes and concept of the original title are still present.”

Highlights of METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D include:

• 3D elements: The atmosphere interacts and comes to life with series hero Snake. Springing to life in an immersive experience, the jungle’s dense foliage and craggy outcrops realistically brush past as Snake moves through them and the many creatures that inhabit the terrain interact and attack if disturbed by Snake. Adding to the jungle habitat, creatures within the world can also be killed and stored as rations – highlighting how Snake must also overcome his surroundings while undercover on his mission.
• Camouflage photography: Within the game, Snake can alter his ensemble to match and blend in with his immediate environment and the possibilities can range from brick-colored fatigues within buildings, to the classic camouflage khakis of the jungle. Users can now take a picture of real-life items and create a camo suit based on them – although the extent of its effectiveness will vary depending on how well your pictures blend with Snake’s environment!
• Dual-screen format: Enabling easier access to Snake’s inventory, which is now located below the main action and also supports gyro synchronization for special actions like balancing on narrow ledges that will draw players further into the world of MGS. Similarly, targeting enemies is now made simpler with the addition of Circle Pad Pro-compatibility, with the second Circle Pad allowing users to target distant foes with ease.
METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and is now available for purchase at retailers nationwide for an SRP of $39.99 for the Nintendo 3DS™.
Microsoft Corp. recently announced that John W. Thompson, chief executive officer of privately held Virtual Instruments and former chairman and CEO of Symantec Corp., was appointed to the company’s board of directors, returning the board’s size to 10 members.

“John has extraordinary technology and business expertise, and we are delighted that he is joining Microsoft’s board of directors,” said Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman.

Thompson currently serves as CEO of Virtual Instruments, a privately held company located in San Jose, Calif., whose products are designed to ensure the performance and availability of applications deployed in virtualized and private cloud computing environments. Since 2009, Thompson has been an active investor in early-stage technology companies in Silicon Valley.

Thompson served as chairman and CEO of Symantec Corp., helping transform Symantec into a leader in security, storage and systems management solutions. During his 10-year tenure as CEO from 1999 to 2009, Symantec’s revenues grew from $632 million to $6.2 billion, and its worldwide workforce grew to more than 17,500 employees. Thompson stepped down as CEO of Symantec in 2009, and stepped down from Symantec’s board of directors in 2011.

Previously, Thompson held a number of leadership positions at IBM, including sales, marketing, software development and general manager of IBM Americas. He was a member of IBM’s Worldwide Management Council.

“John brings a wealth of experience, from enterprise customers to individual consumers, as well as the insights that come from running a successful large global software company and a fast-emerging startup. He will be a great addition to our board,” said Steve Ballmer, Microsoft chief executive officer.

“I am honored to join the Microsoft board and work with this exceptional team,” Thompson said. “Microsoft has been a leader across the entire information technology landscape for decades, and I look forward to sharing my experiences and contributing to the future direction and growth of this global leader.”

Thompson currently serves on the board of United Parcel Service, and he has served on a number of government boards and commissions, including the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, the National Infrastructure Advisory Committee, and the Silicon Valley Blue Ribbon Task Force on Aviation Security and Technology. He formerly served on the national board of Teach for America, an organization dedicated to eliminating educational inequities for all children.

He received a bachelor of business administration from Florida A&M, and a master’s degree in management from the Sloan Fellows program of the MIT Sloan School of Management.

In addition to Thompson, Microsoft’s board of directors consists of Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman; Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO; Dina Dublon, former chief financial officer of JPMorgan Chase; Raymond V. Gilmartin, former chairman, president and CEO of Merck & Co. Inc.; Reed Hastings, founder, chairman and CEO of Netflix Inc.; Dr. Maria M. Klawe, president, Harvey Mudd College; David F. Marquardt, general partner at August Capital; Charles H. Noski, vice chairman of Bank of America Corp.; and Dr. Helmut G. W. Panke, former chairman of the board of management at BMW AG.

Founded in 1975, Microsoft (Nasdaq “MSFT”) is the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.

Mobilethink (http://www.mobilethink.com), a world leading mobile device management and device intelligence vendor, and Qelp (http://www.qelp.com), a leading provider of multi-channel, interactive customer care for smartphones, today announced that they have teamed up to provide TDC, the leading Danish telecommunications company, with the means to slash its rising customer care costs when troubleshooting smartphones in its 3G and 4G networks.

According to analyst firm Heavy Reading’s 2011 February survey of 55 wireless service providers worldwide, the volume of smartphone-related support calls is nearly double that of feature phones. The survey also revealed that the average cost of supporting smartphones is up to 50 percent more than feature phones, and that more than half of incoming calls are not resolved by the call center representative who handles the initial call – further driving up costs.

Due to an increasing uptake of smartphones and the roll out of 4G networks, TDC decided to strengthen the focus on its self-care offering in order to increase customer satisfaction and stop rising costs. Following due diligence into market options, TDC chose to expand its cooperation with device intelligence provider, Mobilethink. By joining forces with new business partner Qelp, Mobilethink is able to offer picture-based, smartphone support services that are seamlessly integrated with TDC’s existing cloud-based device management system (DMS) from Mobilethink.

“No other offering was found to provide similar value when it comes to providing a coherent user experience, unique search engine optimization and enriched statistics” says Mette Lech of TDC’s Market Communication division and continues, “The Mobilethink-Qelp combination of OTA device configuration and picture-based guides is a huge differentiator in TDC’s ability to attract and maintain customers in the booming smartphone market. This highly-intuitive integrated solution is unique compared to what else is available in the market, specifically options for multi-channel smartphone support at phone stores and on-device, as well as Google SEO optimization to drive traffic to our website.”

“With the accelerating shift in the industry towards cloud-based managed services and the inevitability of low-cost, customer self-care releasing resources from operators’ call-centers, TDC is again demonstrating its reputation for taking timely action in protecting business profitability from rising costs,” stresses Brian Risbæk, Key Account Director at Mobilethink.

“We believe this is the beginning of an excellent partnership given TDC’s legacy as the incumbent, market telecommunications leader in Denmark and the high adoption rate of smartphones in its market,” said Wouter Deelman, CEO and founder of Qelp. “We are delighted that TDC has selected the joint Mobilethink-Qelp solution for customer self-care, and look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with TDC and Mobilethink for several years to come.”

Mobilethink has been TDC’s DMS provider-of-choice since 2004, and this latest development underlines TDC’s trust in cloud-based services as the most cost-efficient and reliable choice of modern telecom companies.

In a word, it offers an all-in-one solution for free home DVD burning and authoring.

Get free WinX DVD Author 6.0 to download your YouTube videos and make your own DVDs:

http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-author/

WinX DVD Author always enjoys good reputation in performance. Test shows that less than 1 hour is needed to burn a 4.2 GB DVD while keeping original audio and video effect. In order to benefit more users, the developer turned it into a totally freeware from a commercial one costing $49.95 about one year ago. Now, with the help of this free DVD burner software, homemade DVDs can be easily created from videos that are recorded by camcorders or downloaded from online sharing video websites such as YouTube, Metacafe and Daily motion directly.

Unique features provided by this free YouTube downloader and burner:

Support a large range of HD and SD videos as input formats; burn FLV, MPEG, H.264, M2TS, 3GP, DivX, Xvid, WMV, AVI, MP4, MKV, etc. to DVD.

Personalize and author DVD with chapter menu, subtitle, background music and picture.

Output videos in 3 different formats as VOB file, DVD folder, DVD Disc.

Enable video conversion, menu compiling and DVD burning at one go.

Support batch mode: convert and burn more than one video file at one time.

This DVD author software upgrade is indeed a Valentine’s Day sequel followed by the ongoing 7-day HD video converter giveaway. These two can together help download online videos, convert various videos and burn them into DVDs without any charge.

Apple® today released a developer preview of OS X® Mountain Lion, the ninth major release of the world’s most advanced operating system, which brings popular apps and features from iPad® to the Mac® and accelerates the pace of OS X innovation. Mountain Lion introduces Messages, Notes, Reminders and Game Center to the Mac, as well as Notification Center, Share Sheets, Twitter integration and AirPlay® Mirroring. Mountain Lion is the first OS X release built with iCloud® in mind for easy setup and integration with apps. The developer preview of Mountain Lion also introduces Gatekeeper, a revolutionary security feature that helps keep you safe from malicious software by giving you complete control over what apps are installed on your Mac. The preview release of Mountain Lion is available to Mac Developer Program members starting today. Mac users will be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store™ in late summer 2012.

“The Mac is on a roll, growing faster than the PC for 23 straight quarters, and with Mountain Lion things get even better,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The developer preview of Mountain Lion comes just seven months after the incredibly successful release of Lion and sets a rapid pace of development for the world have most advanced personal computer operating system.”

The developer preview of Mountain Lion features the all new Messages app which replaces iChat® and allows you to send unlimited messages, high-quality photos and videos directly from your Mac to another Mac or iOS device. Messages will continue to support AIM, Jabber, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk. Starting today Lion users can download a beta of Messages from www.apple.com, and the final version will be available with Mountain Lion. Reminders and Notes help you create and track your to-dos across all your devices. Game Center lets you personalize your Mac gaming experience, find new games and challenge friends to play live multiplayer games, whether they’re on a Mac, iPhone®, iPad or iPod touch®.

Mountain Lion presents notifications in an elegant new way, and Notification Center provides easy access to alerts from Mail, Calendar, Messages, Reminders, system updates and third party apps. System-wide Share Sheets make it easy to share links, photos and videos directly from Apple and third party apps. Twitter is integrated throughout Mountain Lion so you can sign on once and tweet directly from Safari®, Quick Look, Photo Booth®, Preview and third party apps. Mountain Lion also introduces AirPlay Mirroring, an easy way to wirelessly send a secure 720p video stream of what’s on your Mac to an HDTV using Apple TV®.

More than 100 million users have iCloud accounts, and Mountain Lion makes it easier than ever to set up iCloud and access documents across your devices. Mountain Lion uses your Apple ID to automatically set up Contacts, Mail, Calendar, Messages, FaceTime® and Find My Mac. The new iCloud Documents pushes any changes to all your devices so documents are always up to date, and a new API helps developer’s make document-based apps work with iCloud.

Gatekeeper is a revolutionary new security feature that gives you control over which apps can be downloaded and installed on your Mac. You can choose to install apps from any source, just as you do on a Mac today, or you can use the safer default setting to install apps from the Mac App Store, along with apps from developers that have a unique Developer ID from Apple. For maximum security, you can set Gatekeeper to only allow apps from the Mac App Store to be downloaded and installed.

Mountain Lion also has features specifically designed to support Chinese users, including significant enhancements to the Chinese input method and the option to select Baidu search in Safari. Mountain Lion makes it easy to set up Contacts, Mail and Calendar with top email service providers QQ, 126 and 163. Chinese users can also upload video via Share Sheets directly to leading video websites Youku and Tudou, and system-wide support for Sina weibo makes micro blogging easy.

Hundreds of new APIs give developers access to new core technologies and enhanced features within OS X. The Game Kit APIs tap into the same services as Game Center on iOS, making it possible to create multiplayer games that work across Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. A new graphics infrastructure underpins OpenGL and OpenCL and implements GLKit, first introduced in iOS 5, to make it easier to create OpenGL apps. Using Core Animation in Cocoa apps is easier than ever, and new video APIs deliver modern 64-bit replacements for low-level QuickTime APIs. Enhanced Multi-Touch™ APIs give developers double-tap zoom support and access to the system-wide lookup gesture. Kernel ASLR improves security through enhanced mitigation against buffer overflow attacks.

Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices with iPad.

NCH Software, a leader in affordable, easy-to-use audio, video, business and other software utilities, today announced the beginning of the “What will computers do when I am 25?” PhotoStage Video Contest for K-12 schools. The winning school will receive over $10,000 of NCH Software for the school’s media lab. Products include audio, video and typing programs: PhotoStage, VideoPad, WavePad, MixPad and KeyBlaze software.

“With school budgets being slashed it is very rewarding knowing we will be helping hundreds of kids stay computer literate,” said VP Sales and Marketing Greg Ahern. The theme of the contest is for kids K-12 to put together a video about what they think computers will do when they are 25 years old. “Kids have the ability to not be hindered by reality. It will be exciting to see what kids imagine the future will be like,” Ahern continued. “Who ever thought we would be talking face-to-face on devices like we saw on “The Jetsons,” or interacting with computers like we saw on “Star Trek,” or “2001: Space Odyssey?” Kids can imagine these things vividly, and maybe one day turns them into reality.”

All entries must be submitted by March 30th, 2012 and the videos will be uploaded on YouTube. Judging will be based predominately on creativity, and the winner will be announced by April 27, 2012. To learn more, visit http://www.nchsoftware.com/contest.

Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced its New Chart Guarantee program, which will ensure that mariners who have recently purchased a new pre-programmed BlueChart g2 or BlueChart g2 Vision microSD/SD card receive the most updated charts available. This new program is being announced in conjunction with the Miami International Boat Show, February 16-20, 2012.

“Garmin strives to make sure that our customers have the most accurate and up-to-date charts,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “As marinas are opened, harbor entrances are dredged, channel markers are altered, obstructions are added or removed and other vital on-the-water navigation elements change, having current charts is invaluable to the safety of a mariner and those around them.”

New Chart Guarantee entitles customers who recently purchased a new pre-programmed BlueChart g2 or BlueChart g2 Vision microSD/SD card to one free update to the newest version of charts. Updated charts will be for the same (or equivalent1) region as the original purchase, and are valid within six months of purchase. In addition, Garmin also offers a discounted update program so that customers can update their existing pre-programmed BlueChart g2 and BlueChart g2 Vision cards at a discounted price. Charts updated with the discount program will be for the same (or equivalent) region as the original purchase.

The New Chart Guarantee program is available now. To download the update, customers can go to www.garmin.com/mapupdates, or visit one of Garmin’s Outlet Programmer Dealers, who will have the ability to provide the BlueChart g2 or BlueChart g2 Vision update service starting April 1, 2012.

Garmin’s BlueChart g2 and BlueChart g2 Vision give mariners detailed offshore charts with realistic navigation features that show everything from shaded depth contours and coastlines to spot soundings, navaids, port plans, wrecks, obstructions, intertidal zone and restricted areas. For the ultimate navigation experience, BlueChart g2 Vision customers will have access to Garmin’s exclusive AutoGuidance technology that searches through relevant charts to create a route free of obstacles, shallow water, buoys and other obstructions. BlueChart g2 Vision also offers other premium navigation features like high-resolution satellite imagery, above- and below-the-water 3D perspective and aerial photographs for real-world reference.

Most winning endeavors—be they successful companies, effective organizations, transformative movements, or game-changing inventions—began with only a bright idea. However, a strong concept without the right work behind it won’t get anyone very far.

In his new book, “Good Idea. Now What? How to Move Ideas to Execution” (Wiley; Hardcover and eBook; February 2012; $24.95; 978-1-118-16399-3) CEO of Ideation Consultancy Inc., Charles T. Lee reveals the steps and structure needed to bring an inspiration to reality and gives readers insight into the essential values and principles that guide successful idea makers.

Whether a creative manager, the leader of an organization, or just a creative person, anyone with great ideas must figure out a process and develop an infrastructure for implementing them. To aid all types of inspired minds, “Good Idea. Now What?” discusses ways to leverage mixed environments for creativity, work through resistance and setbacks, develop a practical plan for implementation that works, navigate collaborative opportunities, and effectively communicate an idea. Lee offers systematic advice for moving ideas to execution with his own first-hand knowledge from his consulting work and the tactics of some of the greatest entrepreneurs of today.

“Over the years I’ve had the privilege to engage with phenomenal idea-makers from all over the world and this book gives readers the opportunity to hear from those that are in the trenches getting stuff done,” says Lee. “People like Soledad O’Brien at CNN, or Scott Harrison of Charity Water, or Blake Mycoskie of Tom Shoes, and many others in their own respective industries that are doing well in implementing because, at the end of the day, implementation is what will distinguish your idea from everyone else’s.”

Whether starting a new venture or recalibrating an established work, “Good Idea. Now What?” brings busy readers 40 bite-sized chapters covering the entire process for successfully building out a concept? Quick takeaway boxes and helpful self-quizzes in each chapter also reinforce key points. This presentation enables readers to move freely among subjects, from sparking inspiration, to making an effective plan, and more, including:

“I wrote this book for two kinds of people: ‘The idea lover’ who is sick of just sitting on great ideas and ‘The idea maker’ who needs to refresh and reaffirm his or her understanding of the elements for implementing ideas well,” adds Lee. “Every good idea needs strong business philosophy and strategy in order to take flight and scale.’Good Idea.
