Well, I have recently decided to change my career path and education. I've decided to go into the medical field and try to become a Physical Therapist. The classes I took while learning business, however, did nothing but benefit me. However, at the same time, I feel that I can't really continue to post on this since I'm now dedicating myself to a blog about health and fitness. What is a LLC Business?

So I'm sure a lot of people here have heard the term, "LLC Business". But a lot of people have no idea as to what the "LLC" part even means. LLC means limited liability company.

In this type of business venture, there are like all others, the advantages and disadvantages. However, I'm going to discuss those in the next few days of updates. For now, let us concentrate exactly on what a limited liability company stands for.

Although a LLC is not in any way, shape, or form a corporation or partnership type of business, it does take a few characteristics from both.

Now in a corporation type of business, usually they give out shares to generate some type of income for start-up of their business. As well as partnerships normally contain two separate owners, or partners, in the business. A LLC type of business is a little different however.

They classify their owners as "members" instead of partners or shareholders. Also the amount of members, or owners, is not limited in a LLC business. This can be a huge advantage or a huge disadvantage depending on how you play your cards.

One of the main purposes of opening a LLC business however is to limit the amount of risk an owner takes when starting a business. Filing taxes with an LLC however can be a little bit more tricky than your average sole proprietorship tax filings.

So, I figured I'd update all my readers with what's going to be happening in the next few days with me and the blog itself. I'm making a trip over to Orlando, Florida to see some old friends of mine. So I won't be able to post for the next few days, but I should be back with a new fresh update on Saturday or Sunday.

Also I was thinking from now on, every Friday, I will be posting a news topic about what I feel is the most important news going around in the business world as of now. So I hope you all will like this little add on I'll soon be incorporating into the blog. If anyone doesn't like this idea, please feel free to leave me a comment and let me know. After all, I do want to please my readers.

Disadvantages of Sole Proprietorship Businesses

Disadvantages of Sole Proprietorship:

Well, as there are advantages of owning your own sole proprietorship business, there are also disadvantages. My previous post stated the main advantages of having a sole proprietorship. So now, let us discuss some of the main disadvantages.

1. Some people want their business to continue on, even if something was to randomly happen to them. As we all know, life takes mysterious turns when least expected. In a sole proprietorship business, if the owner of the entity dies, so does the business.

2. As a sole proprietor, you do have the ability to borrow funds. However, since you are a sole proprietor, the funds that will be available for you to borrow can be limited. This is because in sole proprietorship's, unlike other types of businesses, the amount you can borrow is fully limited based on the owner's personal finances. A lot of times, when people are starting their own business from scratch, they might not exactly have the best credit or finances. This can be a major draw back in owning a sole proprietor type of business.

3. Seeing how a sole proprietorship business is not a type of partnership or corporation, all legal issues that the business faces are direct to and only to the owner of the business. For a lot of people, this one thing turns them off the idea of starting up a sole proprietorship. But let's be honest, if you're having fear of legal problems before your business has even started, it's most likely not an ethical idea.

4. Another disadvantage is the fact that benefits such as health care premiums are not fully deductible from your taxes. In other words, you will NOT get reimbursed for all your health care costs that are associated with your business. That's just the way it is.

Now that I've laid out some basic disadvantages of owning a sole proprietorship business, hopefully you can piece the two posts, this and the previous one, together to figure out if a sole proprietorship is the right type of business for you.

Advantages of Sole Proprietorship Businesses

Sole Proprietorship Advantages:

So, many of you out there might be considering on opening up your own sole proprietorship type business. With any type of business you start out, there will be advantages and disadvantages. So let us go over the basic advantages of this particular business, sole proprietorship.

1. You are your own boss. Always and forever. What exactly does this mean? You call the shots when it comes to decision making in your business. If something succeeds, you can credit yourself and pat yourself on the back. At the same time though, if you fail at something, the blame is on no one else other than yourself. Also with you being your own boss, you get to choose your hours. That's particularly one of my favorite parts of being my own boss!

2. Sole proprietorship's are the least expensive business to set up. That's right! Not only are the least expensive type of business that you could start up, but it's also the easiest regarding things such as paper work and taxes.

Keep in mind, all profits you earn from a sole proprietorship business are yours. Therefore, you'll need to file those profits on your normal tax form every year.

3. Since you're the complete owner of your business in a sole proprietorship, all the money you earn goes directly to you. No one else! How great does that sound? It's like music to my ears at least. Keep in mind, however, if you have employees that you've hired then there will be a cut in your profits. The cool part however though is with the money you earn from your business, you can do what you please with it. My tip of advise would be to reinvest it into the business as long as sales/services are doing well for you.

4. Last but not least, another great advantage of a sole proprietorship business is the fact that you can pretty much quit the business when you please. There are certain things you'll need to do in order to completely disband your business all together. However, this type of business is the easiest to do so if things "just aren't working out for you."

The next post I'm going to spiel out the main disadvantages of owning a sole proprietorship business. As I've said earlier, all businesses have their advantages and disadvantages. You have to outweigh them yourselves to decide which is truly the best type of business for you and your needs!

Well everyone, I want to apologize for not being active with my blog over the past couple of months. I'm going to be updating it regularly from now on though. I'm still going to be bringing you all great business and marketing tips. Now I think I'll also throw a little something else into the mix by bringing you some important business news as well.

Type of Business: Sole Proprietorships (Pt. 1)

So, since we discuss quite a few things about businesses, I've decided, why not let people know what type of businesses there are. What exactly is a sole proprietorship? Currently, it's one of the easiest businesses to start up. You're pretty much your own boss and you make the decisions that you feel would best benefit your company. There are many advantages and disadvantages to owning a sole proprietorship type of business, however, we will discuss these in a moment.

Sole proprietorship's make up 72% of all businesses today, according to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. 72% of all businesses is a huge number! Even though their contributions in total receipts are not quite as much as their corporate opponents, they still bring in close to 950 billion dollars a year, which is a hefty chunk of cash!

This is the type of business that most average day people start up. It's very easy to start and end these types of businesses which gives a huge advantage to owning one.

My next post will define the advantages of owning a sole proprietorship and possibly the disadvantages as well. Don't worry, I will post both in due time. However, I feel I need to thoroughly go over each point so that you can get the feel if this is the type of business you would like to start.

I've been quite sick over the past week or so and that has been preventing me from doing much of anything, including keeping up with my blog. A lot of people these days that have their own businesses have probably thought at one point in time if it would be good to make their business global. Would it be?

If you're considering on making your business internationally known I'd advise a few steps in the beginning process.

1. Is there are market for your service/product like their is in your country? Do you feel it would be successful in another country? These are questions you need to start off asking yourself. You really need to do some economic research on the country and at least view how similar items would sell over there. Research is one of the biggest components of becoming successful.

2. You need to make sure you do some research as well on the cultures that are in the country you want to sell in. Most cultures are quite different from the U.S. Slogans and everything need to be evaluated to make sure they aren't translated to something else in that country.

3. You're going to need some capital as well. Going international with your business, most the time, is a great strategy in maximizing profit as long you follow the procedures correctly. However, in order to make money off it, you're going to need some money to invest. It's not the cheapest to try and make your business global. (Although the internet has been making it a lot easier)

Starting a Business: The Business Plan (Pt.5)

What can there be left to a business plan you might be wondering. Well this will be the end of the road for my short 5-part post of the business plan.

However, let us do a small recap:
By now, you should have an idea of what your business is going to serve/promote, the name of your business, finding the key amount of roles and positions to offer in your firm/business, and making a sound financial plan for your business to follow.

Now there's a little more left over. This is the time when you're going to have to find a location for your business and build a manufacturing plan depending on the type of business you're opening.

Ever heard the saying, "Location!, Location!, Location!"? Well it's the truth. The location of your business can dramatically change the way your business works and functions. So how can you find out where to locate your business?

I would advise doing a demographic analysis of consumers in the area of where you feel your business should be placed. Once you have done this, you can better decide if that spot will actually make or break your business. You can follow traffic trends and also even take vehicle and pedestrian accounts around the area. It's a lot of work, but if you get the perfect location for your business, it will pay off huge!

Now what about creating a manufacturing plan for your business? Chances are, you'll only have to go this route if you're business has to do with retailing. Of course, as shown in the picture to the right, there are a lot of levels in the manufacturing process. When creating a manufacturing plan you need to keep in mind of a few different things.

1. You'll most likely need a plant. You'll need to decide if you want it close to your business, further away, and even the size of it.

2. You'll need to obtain/purchase the machinery required for the specific business you own. This can be very costly.

3. Also you'll need to be keeping track of a few other things as well. These include quality control of your products, the production capacity, and of course inventory control methods.

These are all things you need to consider if you're going the route of being the boss of a manufacturing business.

Starting a Business: The Business Plan (Pt.4)

Now we're on to the next part of the financing aspect. Where to get the capital to fund your business in the start-up. There's several sources of capital that an entrepreneur has.

These include:

1. Personal Savings
2. Relatives
3. Former Employees
4. Banks
5. Finance Companies
6. Venture Capitalists
7. Government Agencies

As you can see, there are quite a few sources you can go after. Above 85% of people who start up businesses received their beginning money to start from their family and friends.
Another way you could receive some capital is by venture capitalists. These are people that will invest money to help start up a business for part ownership. Some can even ask for a big chunk of your profits, so be careful to evaluate the situation fully.
One government agency that helps small businesses start up is the Small Business Administration (SBA). These are small loans that the government give out to help new businesses. Of course you can always get loans from the banks as well.

But better yet! Have you ever thought about trying to get some start-up money from one of your suppliers? It could be in their best interest as well to help you start-up and pay back.

KEEP IN MIND

Loans = Money Borrowed + Interest
So you end up spending more than you actually borrowed.
Taking risks to try to become successful.
That's what being an entrepreneur is all about.

If anyone would like to join my forums, feel free to do so below.This forums is brand new, so don't be discouraged since it isn't even closed to being finished yet. There is still a lot of work needed to be done with it, and currently I'm the only member on it. I'd love to help people out with my advise and also receive advise in return. Why not exchange our thoughts a bit on the forums then?

I will be adding a "Room For Improvement" board on the forums where users can also post if they feel that a certain area is not being covered that needs to be. The whole point of this system is to network with other people who are doing the same things as ourselves.

Starting a Business: The Business Plan (Pt.3)

Well this week I've been bombarded by finals at my college so I haven't been able to do as much posting as I would of liked. I'm going to begin to explain the first steps in the financial department of setting up a business plan.

A financial plan consists of many things. In this you're going to want to consider projections for income, expenses, and much more. This is the part where I would advise you to hire a professional accountant or financial analyst. However, if you're wanting to do it on your own here's a few tips.

You're going to need to produce projections for what you think your company can reach. I would advise to use a five-year projection plan but a three-year projection plan would most likely work fine. You need these projections for the income you feel you can have coming in, the expenses going out, and even funding sources that you might have got loans from. Now don't just go pulling some random number out of a hat like you're a magician. This takes research, and research is what you'll have to do. Find out historical and industry trends and follow their sales to try and get your projections.

Keep in mind, a financial plan for a business is almost never matched. It could be better, or it could be worse, depending on how much work and effort you put into the plan and follow accordingly. Once you make a financial plan, you need to do your best to stick to it and the keep the budget from drawing into debt.

I would tell most my readers here to, if anything, just expect the expected. If you want to take it further, expect the worst. This way, if the worst does happen, which we all hope it doesn't, then you were at least expecting it. This does happen, but just because it does doesn't mean you should give up! Reconstruct another one that you feel will work better for you. After all, by the time you find out if your first business plan was a success, you'll have experience to build your next one better either way!

I'm going to post the other part of my financial planning for the business plan tomorrow. It will be focusing more on loans and where new businesses can find loans.

Targeting the Right Traffic to Your Site

Well, I realized I've been posting quite a bit on how to start businesses, but have neglected some marketing aspects of this blog. So for todays post, we're going to explore on ways to gain traffic to your website.

Most businesses these days have a web page. It's almost an obsolete feature of a business not to have a website these days. The internet allows so many people to view your business and products with ease, comfort, and of course speed. Why not offer this option to your consumers?

The main reason a lot of businesses don't even bother is because they can't seem to make sales. Why could this be? They're driving the wrong people to their websites. So how can you market your website?

Here are some beginning pointers I can give you for promoting a new site.
1. Link Referral - Link referral is a great site that enables people to view your site under the given categories. In order to achieve higher ranks, and overall more traffic from this site, you need to view others, write reviews, and mainly stay active. You can easily start pulling in 30-50 hits a day with this useful web tool and expect them to all be unique visitors.

2. Article Submission - Submitting articles about what your site is offering, service or product, will expose your site to many new audiences. Keep in mind, only good articles work. So take your time writing the articles, because overall, that's how people will view your site as well. Chances are, you wont realize huge traffic changes in the beginning. But if you keep up with the articles and keep publishing new ones with different content, people will catch on, trust me.
Below are some article submission sites that I would advise for a beginning website:
a) Go Articles - A great article submission site that has an easy to use system. Must register to use of course. Also limited HTML tags are permitted in the articles you can submit unless you upgrade your account.
b) Ezine Articles - This is probably the BEST article submission site out there right now. I'd advise getting acquainted with this one before using others.
c) Article Dashboard - Honestly, I've personally never messed around with this submission site yet. However, I do have friends who have used it and I've heard nothing but good things. So you might want to check it out.

3. Adding Your Site To Search Engines - This is probably one of the biggest things you need to do of all. You need to add your website to to search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN.
The links where you can do that are below:
1) Add your URL to Google Search
2) Add your URL to Yahoo Search
3) Add your URL to MSN/Live Search

Now, once you feel like you established a good product/service along with a name for it, then it's time to move to the next step of the business plan.

This is the part of the plan where you figure out how many people are going to be in your business. Do you want to start off big? Will your funds for starting the business allow this? These are some questions you need to consider.

The fact of the matter is, most small businesses obviously start off small. Usually, the beginning of businesses don't have enough money to hire a ton of employees. I know I don't.

So what do you then? You need to find out the exact roles that you need in your company to get it started off. Personally, I advise as always, to get a lawyer, financial planner, and a marketing professional to begin with.

You're obviously going to need to hire new employees regardless of what your employee roles or count is. You need to let people know what you're about. Doing this through local advertisements is a great way unless you're trying to stay strictly on the web. After people start applying you'll NEED to do face-to-face interviews with them. This is so you can get a personal vibe through them and also review the resumes with the potential employees. Then, you'll have to do a background check and most likely a drug test depending on how you see fit. In my opinion however, it's your business, and I wouldn't let someone I can't trust to work for me.

The biggest thing you can learn from business is that it's all just a huge compiled process of elimination. If something doesn't work, just don't give up; try something else out. This goes the same for hiring employees.

Once you have your employee roles set, then it's start to begin the financing part of the business plan.

Starting a Business: The Business Plan (Pt. 1)

Not every business that is successful started with a business plan. Does that mean it should be the same for you? The "business plan" in the picture is a good beginning step to creating a true business plan.

Have an idea? Can you exploit that idea and possibly make revenue from it? If not, try to think of another idea that a market is more of need for.

This is a great beginning, but business plans consist of a lot more than just knowing your idea and finding out if it's marketable. So what's a business plan really consist of?

First thing you need to do is find the product/service you think will sell and you will enjoy promoting. The last thing you want to do is start a business of something you hate. You want to make sure that this is something you're genuinely interested in and want to do.

Once you have this part done you can now decide on a name for your product/service. Think of something intelligent, witty, and unique. The name has a lot to do with how people view your business and what they view it for.

Starting a Business: Realizing Your Assets

Everyone these days would like to start a business and create their own wealth. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this at all! Businesses, including small businesses, are what keep our economy striving!

So what do you need to start a business? There's quite a few things I can advise to you hear, but in this part we are going to talk about realizing your assets.

What is an asset? An asset is something of value that you have ownership to that you can sell. This includes your house, your car, your jewelry, your book collection, and much more.

Realizing that by adding all assets and subtracting all the liabilities you have, gives you your net worth. Liabilities can include things such as credit card bills, phone contracts, and almost every type of debt. Have you added everything you own up and subtracted it from your liabilities and to find out your net worth? If you haven't, you really should give it a go just for laughs to say the least. Have you found your net worth to be in the negative amount?

No problem. There's always room for improvement, and you can start today! A lot of businesses open up there companies based off loans. A lot of loans are more secured by the types of assets you have. Overall, realizing your assets is one of the key ingredients to planning a business for success.

First Step: Targeting an Audience

As said before, marketing can be a very daunting task to normal individuals. So how can you get started on the right foot?
Have you ever heard of a niche? A niche in marketing terms means a specialized market. In other words, if you have something you love to do or blog about and your very knowledgeable in the field you're doing so with, then that's a niche. A lot of things come with identifying what your true niche is. The best thing I or any other marketer can tell you to do is stick by it and keep working hard.

Now it is true, some niches don't have an established market at all. This is something you need to be aware about before trying to make money off the niche that you thought was ever so popular. If you feel you can exploit a new market area with what you're offering to the community, then go ahead and give it a shot. Just keep in mind that the newer an idea is to the public, the harder it is to market it. But then again, isn't the statement big risk equals big return or possibly big loss the truth?

Once you think you found what you're niche is, then it's time to study and analyze for who your target audience is. What is a target audience? A target audience is a specified group of people that will generally follow what you have going. You need to look for people that can relate and overall would use your product/website. An example of this would be how the tobacco companies used to make commercials to young adults to hook them to cigarettes. They used "young adults" as their target audience and targeted them by doing research and campaigning.

Finding your target audience is a key credential and essential in becoming a successful marketer in today's cut-throat business. Without having that, how are you going to know who to market to? Marketing to everyone will take way to much time and overall way to much money, which is something not a lot of marketers can risk these days.

Let us first begin here with a basic understanding of what marketing is.

Marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders.

What this means in layman's terms is marketing is a function of businesses that they use to communicate and react to what the consumer(s) want and keeping the relationship with that consumer(s).

Overall marketing is one of the biggest aspects of business all together. If you're thinking about becoming a serious marketer, you'll realize that one of the biggest aspects of marketing is staying in touch with your consumers and keeping them happy.

You might be wondering, "How can it public relations be so closely tied to marketing?" Well, the answer is short and simple. Customers that are happy will more likely return and also spread good word of mouth.

Best Marketing Methods For A New Business

1. Word of Mouth - It's the best and worst marketing method out there. What I mean by this is good word of mouth can go far for your business or marketing campaign while bad word of mouth can make your whole project flounder. Isn't the point of owning your own business is to maximize profits for you and your company though? If you agree with this, then you should be working very hard to please your consumers and the chances of bad word of mouth will be a lot less.

2. Advertising - Advertising is a huge method used today in marketing. With technology continuously booming, it seems like there's always new exploitations that can be used to saturate advertising more. Advertising is done online, on television, infomercials, testimonials, telecommunication, radio, flyer's and much more. With the internet buzz peaking more and more each year, more companies have decided to go with more advertising on the web.

Marketing is and will be used for as long as we live. The more advance and detailed we get with it, the better our results can be. Times are changing fast, and with that, technology is changing fast as well. Jump on the bandwagon and stay updated with the technology at our hands because that can be part of your ticket to becoming a successful marketer.
