NBA rookies was getting huge contracts before getting limited by the NBA. But Derrick Rose Rule has somewhat enabled such perks for superstar-caliber young NBA players. The Derrick Rose Rule says that younger players can demand more money from their teams based on their stellar performance. Here’s the “definition” of the Derrick Rose Rule from the NY Times: Derrick Rose rule: Young superstars (those with less than six years of experience) negotiating a so-called ‘max’ contract may now be eligible to earn 30 percent of the salary cap, instead of 25 percent. To gain that right, a player must earn All-N.B.A. honors (first, second or third team) twice or be voted an All-Star Game starter twice or be named most valuable player. Rose, who was named the 2010-11 M.V.P. as a third-year player for the Bulls, will be among the first to take advantage of the new rule. Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant may be eligible because the extension he signed in 2010 has not yet taken effect. Under N.B.A. rules, a max contract is tied to league formulas, not a specific dollar amount. Durant could ask the Thunder for the extra 5 percent once the league reopens for business. It’s [...]

NBA in the 1980′s was different from the NBA we know today. The superstars, the rivalries, the drama – all in a different level than today’s NBA. NBA TV will debut the new 5-part series, NB80s to highlight the 1980′s NBA on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 10 p.m. ET. Gotta watch those 5-series!

Great news, NBA fans! NBA lockout will finally come to an end! After a long, long 15 hour session, NBA owners and player reps announced early Saturday that they have reached a tentative deal which would establish a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). That, in effect, will bring the lockout to an end. Players’ union executive director Billy Hunter says, “We thought it was in both of our interest to try to reach a resolution and save the game and to be able to provide the mind of superb entertainment the NBA historically has provided.” NBA commissioner David Stern says, “We want to play basketball… We’re very pleased we’ve come this far. There’s still a lot of work to be done.” If things go as planned, the NBA season would begin on Dec. 25, Christmas Day, with a 66-game season. Merry Christmas, NBA fans!

Tyreke Evans, Sacramento Kings’ future susperstar has finally decided to play in Italy until the friggin’ NBA lockout is over. The 2009/10 Rookie of the Year will play for Virtus Roma, one of the leading basketball team in Italy. It’s assumed that he has a certain clause in his contract that allows him to do that until the labor negotiations are finally concluded. It’s probably an ideal move an NBA baller can make as he somehow need maintain his competitiveness (and maybe to make some Euros along the way) during the NBA lockout. Hopefully ‘Reke won’t fall in love with basket italiano and forget to return to where he belongs – the NBA.
