Carol,

A most impressive website and stunning pictures, from a wildlife photographer of much inferior ability but wider variety of subject matter, a lot of it in our garden and fields. You have certainly gone into dragon and damselfly photography with a passion. Simply amazing. I know how difficult it is to get some of these pictures.

It does seem to be perhaps the quickest and probably easiest way to deal with this problem is getting a brickie in, to put in a new wall and then you can start from scratch with a proper surface.

Well, it did feel warmer to the touch as I recall so you may reckon correctly.

I doubt that it is still available (I certainly hope not) but congratulations on going against the grain, both in liking the damn stuff and in trying to increase the use of plastics while the rest of the world attempts to reduce their usage. :D

You mention photostacking as an inbuilt camera feature on some cameras. Now with the advanced phone camera you have the opposite requirement. The picture from a phone is invariably sharp with a huge depth of focus, despite the F1.7 lens. So now using AI processing they blur the background when you switch on portrait mode. The blurring is artificially induced after the picture has been taken. The phone has to guess what to blur and what to keep focused.

The cleverness of the AI software differs from camera to camera. One a new apple, a test shot has the face in focus, the background out of focus, except for a distant passing car remaining in focus.

Another feature is the exposure correcting, shadows are lightened and over-bright areas darkened. Different exposure for different areas. People are raving about the Pixel 3 nightmode shooting.

Finally I have heard of a zoom mode on the new Pixel 3. It takes multiple pictures, relies on the camera moving slightly between shots, and using processing allows a 2-3 zoom with out quality loss that normally occurs when you zoom a picture by losing pixels.

The wonder of phones are bringing very acceptable pictures to the masses. (quality wise, maybe not content wise). For the specialist macro and zoom lens I still thought the big expensive cameras were still it. Until I saw someone attach a 20 dollar macro lens attachment to their phone. I was blown away with the pictures he took.

Hi John and thank you for your kind words. It sounds as though we live close by each other.

I've made what corrections/identifications I can on your Dragonflies; it's always interesting to look at someone elses collection. You have some good ones.

Hi John / Carol

Just wanted to say thank you - have just been using your website and great array of pics to try and identify some of my dragonfly shots. I find identification so difficult in dragonflies and not many resources around.

I know this is an imposition, as like you I'm enjoying my retirement, but I wondered if you could take a quick look at my pics and see if you can fill in any of the blanks for me!

https://www.jlfpics.com/Insects2/Dragonflies/

Coincidentally I too have a link, with the Greensand trust...as I do the website for Knollswood!

Hope you have a few moments to help ...but will understand if you don't!

Best wishes
John
