LOVELAND, Colo. (Oct 1st, 2015) – Angel Benitez Jr. and the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche landed at Laguna Seca following his double race win at Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas one week ago. The Miami resident closed out his 2015 GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama USA season this past weekend by claiming a double podium finish during Porsche Rennsport Reunion V.

Following his double race win and scorching of the GT3 Cup field at COTA, Benitez Jr. looked to continue pressuring the Platinum Class points leaders in the GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama USA. Since joining JDX Racing for Round 5 at Watkins Glen International back in June, the talented Venezuelan reached the podium every weekend, claiming five overall race wins and four second place finishes. The season finale started in customary GT3 Cup fashion, with two practice sessions, as the 26 year old JDX Racing standout wheeled the #05 Hertz Racing Porsche to the top of the timing charts, leading into the qualifying session Saturday morning. Angel qualified the #05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche car fourth for the first race of the weekend which featured 24 Porsche GT3 Cup cars.

The field of 24 cars was led by series points leader Elliott Skeer as they raced down the front straight three wide under the starter’s stand. Angel charged around the outside of the #5 car driven by 2014 Platinum Series Champion, Colin Thompson, and set his sights on the #21 car of Jesse Lazare. Benitez rolled up alongside Lazare, but the #21 car made contact with the #05 twice prior to the exit of the turn two hairpin and Benitez was forced off the track on to the dirt. Angel managed to defend his hard fought pass on Thompson and held onto third position. The race continued for 29 laps, circling around the historic 2.238 mile, 11 turn Laguna Seca Raceway. Angel continued to pressure the two cars ahead, settling for a third place finish, only a half second behind second place finisher Lazare.

The final round of the season and second race of the weekend had the Venezuelan born sports car racer starting fourth again. As he did in the first race, Benitez Jr. charged his way through turn two, gaining a position by cleanly passing third place starter Lazare around the outside of the turn two hairpin – this time not getting forced off track. Second place starter Thompson took a run at pole sitter Skeer at turn four and Angel saw his opening and passed the pole sitter Skeer on the run down to turn five. While Thompson had taken the lead, Benitez and Skeer had made slight contact during his pass for P2, knocking out the front end alignment on the #05 JDX / Hertz Porsche. He would continue to press for the entire race, but with the front end askew, he had to settle for a second place finish, his fifth of the season.

Benitez Jr. commented, ”It was another great weekend, and I was thrilled we got to showcase the Hertz car and JDX team in front of 57,000 Rennsport Reunion fans. It’s been such an honor to be blessed with an opportunity to drive for Hertz and JDX Racing this year. Luke (JDX Race Engineer, Luke Goldenstein) gave me a great car every weekend, and I want to thank him for his hard work and commitment. I really wanted to get the JDX guys a championship, but we got started a bit late and it just wasn’t to be. I’m proud of all our accomplishments, and taking third in both the driver and team championships this season is something to be proud of.”

Team principal Harrison Brix said, “Angel accomplished a lot in a short period of time. Starting at The Glen, in twelve races he reached the podium 11 times – with five race wins, five second place finishes and a third. He only missed the podium once, and he out scored the top two drivers from The Glen right through to the season finale this weekend. There is no doubt in my mind he would have won the Championship for not missing the first four rounds. Angel was super competitive all season long, drove smart and continued to make his mark on the series. I also want to thank our good friends at Hertz and Porsche, as they make all of this possible. What a great championship this is, and I promise we’ll come back stronger than ever next year.”

LOVELAND, Colo. (Sept 20th, 2015) – Angel Benitez Jr. and the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche returned to action following his third win of the season at Virginia International Raceway, in Alton, Virginia just three weeks ago. The Venezuelan born sports car racer racked up his fourth and fifth race wins of the season in the black and gold liveried #05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche on the 3.427 mile, 20 turn Circuit of the Americas in Austin,Texas.

Following his VIR win, Benitez Jr. looked to carry momentum and to continue pressuring the Platinum Class points leaders in the GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama USA. The weekend started in customary GT3 Cup fashion, with two practice sessions, as the 26 year old JDX Racing pilot managed to take the #05 Hertz Racing Porsche to the top of the timing charts, leading into Friday’s qualifying session.

Benitez Jr. qualified the #05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche car third for the first race of the weekend featuring 26 Porsche GT3 Cup cars. The entire field rumbled up the menacing 133 foot climb to a turn one apex located at the crest of the hill. The #14 Porsche driven by Elliott Skeer and pole sitter Jesse Lazare in the #21 car left the door open for Benitez Jr. as he used all of the track on the inside and lead the field into turn one. The pass surprised many, including Angel, as he then proceeded to lead every lap, claiming the checkered flag for his fourth race win of the season, 3.627 seconds ahead of the second place finisher and series points leader, Elliott Skeer.

The second race of the weekend found the series veteran again starting third in the field, following only Lazere and Skeer to the green flag. Unlike the first race, both drivers ahead of Benitez Jr. protected the inside, running a very tight line on the entry to turn one. Angel pounced quickly and wheeled the #05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche wide to the outside, squaring off the corner and claiming the race lead as he cleared turn two. An incident on lap two created a short full course yellow, but Angel led the field for the restart and got a great jump heading down the front straight to continue his lead. He paced the field stretching out a advantage of nearly three seconds before a brief second full course yellow brought the field back together. In true Benitez fashion, he executed the restart to perfection. Under the lights at COTA, Angel set a new race lap record of 2.13.801, leading to the checked flag for his second race win of the weekend, third in as many races and fifth of the season.

Benitez Jr. commented, ”I’m really happy for JDX and Hertz, I’m thankful for the opportunity they have given me and what better way to thank them – two race wins. I really had fun out there this weekend and I’m sure everyone was surprised with the start – they left an opening and I took it – not once, but twice. Both times I got through turn one cleanly and just kept looking forward. The Austin heat took it’s toll, but Luke (Goldenstein, Race Engineer) gave me a great car all weekend.”

Team principal Harrison Brix said, “The guys did another great job this week. We had the speed, running in the top of the field for the majority of the weekend, and being rewarded with our fourth and fifth wins of the season. Angel has done everything we have asked of him and his results speak for themselves. Now we head west for our season finale, Rennsport Renuion V at Laguna next weekend. We are confident Angel will continue putting pressure on the points leaders as he has done since he joined JDX Racing earlier this season.”

The green flag for the series finale, rounds 15 and 16 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama are scheduled September 25-27 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, California. The green flag for round 15 flies Saturday, September 26 at 5:25pm EST, round 16 Sunday, September 27 at 2:30pm EST. Both races are timed, 45-minute events that will be the feature race event during the Porsche Rennsport Reunion V. Live timing and scoring will be available on IMSA.com.

LOVELAND, Colo. (Aug 24th, 2015) – Angel Benitez Jr. and the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche returned to action following back to back podium finishes two weeks ago at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The 26 yr old sports car racing star captured his third race win of the season in the black and gold #05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche on the 3.27 mile, 17 turn Virginia International Raceway this weekend.

Having claimed a podium finish in his first six races this season, Benitez Jr. had his sights set on continuing his pursuit of the Platinum Class points leaders in the GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama USA. The weekend began with a full test session on Thursday followed by two practice sessions on Friday, and then a 20-minute qualifying session. The car rolled off the truck with strong pace as Angel lead the time charts in practice one and then backed up that performance with a P2 finish in practice session two, only .096 seconds behind the leader.

Benitez Jr. qualified the #05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche GT3 Cup car second for the first race of the weekend in a red flag shortened qualifying session, missing the pole by only .103 seconds. The field of 22 Porsche’s rounded turn 17 to receive the green flag as they charged down the long high speed front straight leading into the treacherous turn one. Angel settled in right away as he tucked in behind the pole sitter in the #14 car driven by Elliott Skeer. The JDX Racing standout pressured the race leader for 21 laps all the way to the white flag lap. Racing nose to tail coming out of turn two leading into turn three the #05 GT3 Cup car suffered a mechanical failure causing the car to veer off track, but not before setting a new race lap record of 1.50.937. For his efforts, Benitez was awarded 11th in class for the race.

There was a doubleheader on Sunday which included round four, a make up race from a rainout suffered back in April at NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans. The second race of the weekend and first on Sunday found the Venezuelan racer starting from the Pole. Angel got right to work getting a great start headed into turn one and never looked back. He managed to grab a four second lead before a mid race yellow flag. Benitez Jr. was masterful on the restart as he lead the field to the checkered flag, winning his third race of the season and returning to the podium for the seventh time in eight races. Round four found the #05 JDX Racing / Hertz entry starting from 17th as Angel was not originally entered for the race scheduled back in April. That didn’t phase the JDX Racing pilot a bit as he made quick business towards the race leader, weaving his way through the field. Angel found himself running in fourth position after only seven laps. He continued his pursuit of the #47 car driven by Andrew Longe, headed into the historic Oak Tree Bend, the two made contact, resulting in a drive through penalty for Benitez, he would wrap up the weekend finishing fifth.

Benitez Jr. commented, “We had a great car, my race engineer (Luke Goldenstein) nailed the set-up right off the truck. I had a fast car all weekend, we were confident going into the races after qualifying second for race one and taking the pole for race two. Skeer and I had a great battle in the first race, its just unfortunate something broke and I had the off, but they guys worked hard to get the car race ready for Sunday. I’m just glad I could reward all that hard work with a race win on Sunday”.

Team principal Jeremy Dale said, “Angel and the team did a great job, our car ran at the top of the field most of the weekend, resulting in our third race win of the season. Having said that, all our focus and energy are on the unfortunate incident that took place at Pocono Raceway this weekend that involved our close friend Justin Wilson. Our hearts are heavy and the mood is somber as the team packs up today. You will not find a more honorable man, better teammate, husband or father than Justin. The entire team continues to focus on Justin and his family for his full recovery from this freakish accident.”

The green flag for rounds 13 and 14 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama are scheduled September 17-19 at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. The green flag for round 13 flies Thursday, September 17 at 1:30pm EST, round 14 Friday, September 18 at 8:00pm EST, in a rare night race under the lights. Both races are timed, 45-minute events that support the Tudor United SportsCar Championship Lone Star Le Mans race on Saturday, September 19. Live timing and scoring will be available on IMSA.com.

LOVELAND, Colo. (August 10th, 2015) – The start of the 2015 season for Angel Benitez Jr. and the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche have produced very good results. The series veteran captured two more second place finishes this past weekend at the historic 4-mile Road America race track in Elkhart Lake, WI.

Having signed the young Venezuelan just three races ago, the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche arrived at Road America fully intent on taking advantage of all the scheduled track time. Mother Nature had different plans, as the weather wreaked havoc on each of Friday’s two practice sessions, giving JDX race engineer Luke Goldenstein limited track time to tune and set up the No.05 Black and Gold liveried Porsche.

Benitez Jr. qualified his Yokohama shod Porsche GT3 Cup car third for the first race of the weekend, placing him on the inside of row two for the traditional rolling start. The field of 24 Porsche’s rumbled up the hill to the green flag and Angel muscled his way to the inside at turn one, quickly making his way to second as he cleared the first turn. Angel settled in as he and race leader, Jesse Lazare, set the race pace and began to pull away from the field. Benitez followed closely and on a restart from a brief full-course caution, pounced on the young Canadian with an unexpected inside move in turn three, giving Angel the race lead for the next six laps. Lazare then returned the favor in a never before seen pass with an over-under in the 100+ MPH carousel. Angel continued his pursuit for the remainder of the race, settling in and claiming his third straight second place finish.

The final race of the weekend on Sunday positioned the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche second on the starting grid. Angel started on the outside of row one, making a hard charge for the lead at the first turn, but he was forced to tuck in behind pole sitter Lazare. Angel put constant and heavy pressure on the current series points leader for the entire 45 minute race, and he remained vigilant waiting for a small mistake and a potential opening, but it never came. The #05 JDX / Hertz Porsche finished the race only six-tenths of a second behind the race winner, locking up a string of six straight podium finishes.

Benitez Jr. commented, “I’m very thankful for the opportunity JDX and Hertz have given me and anytime you can finish on the podium it’s a good weekend. Jesse drove a great race – I was ready for him to make a mistake, but it just never happened. We didn’t have a lot of track time due to the rain on Friday, but Luke gave me a solid car, which we fine tuned after the first race and it was even better for race two. Six podiums in six races is pretty good – and we head to VIR in a couple of weeks for three more rounds, so I’m looking forward to improving on our results and grabbing more championship points.”

Team principal Harrison Brix said, “Six straight podiums, we couldnt ask for much more. Angel drove two great races this weekend, and he has been both fast and consistent since he jumped in the JDX / Hertz car at Watkins Glen. The team found a little more speed for the second race, but Jesse had just as much car as we did and that makes it tough to pass. We will head to VIR for three races, one of which is the make-up race from NOLA (New Orleans), so there are 60 championship points on the table and it’s our intention to grab most of them.”

The green flag for rounds 11 and 12 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama are scheduled August 21-23 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. The green flag for round 11 flies Saturday, August 22 at 8:50am EST, round 12 Sunday, August 23 at 9:20am EST and the make up race from NOLA (New Orleans) later that same day, 4:30pm EST. All races are timed, 45-minute events that support the Tudor United SportsCar Championship Oak Tree Grand Prix race on Sunday, August 23. Live timing and scoring will be available on IMSA.com.

LOVELAND, Colo. (June 29th, 2015) – The season debut of their newly signed Porsche Pilot Angel Benitez Jr. for the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche could not have been better. Benitez lead every lap of both races to soundly sweep the field in rounds five and six of the Porsche GT3 Challenge USA by Yokohama at Watkins Glen International Raceway this weekend.

Having signed the young Venezuelan just a week earlier, JDX Racing and Angel had a steep learning curve as they arrived at Watkins Glen International on Wednesday. Team and driver took full advantage of both practice sessions on Thursday, posting the fastest time in practice one, and just a tick off fastest time in practice two. Angel, with the help of race engineer Luke Goldenstein, zeroed in on a solid setup for Friday’s qualifying session, claiming front row starting positions for the No.05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche in both races.

In Angel’s return to the series, he put his stamp on the weekend at turn one / lap one, with a very aggressive and perfectly executed outside pass on the pole sitter. Angel went on to lead every lap of the race, checking out with two other cars in the field. The statement had been made – Angel and JDX will be a tough combination to beat in 2015!

The second race of the weekend on Saturday morning would prove to be its own challenge, as rain began to fall 20 minutes prior the green flag. Unfazed – and with the JDX crew applying the correct chassis setup adjustments required for wet weather conditions – Angel again started on the outside of the front row, and was even more assertive than the previous day. Heading into turn one Angel held his line around the outside of the banked turn one, clearing the No.14 car of Elliott Skeer with another brilliant outside pass. Skeer – desperately trying to stay with Benitez – lost the back end of his Porsche Cup car, causing multiple cars to spin. Regardless of the wet track conditions, Angel checked out and lead the field of 26 cars on the the historic 3.47 mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen International Raceway to the checkered flag.

Benitez Jr. commented, “This was the most fun I have had in a race car, hands down. I had a smile on my face from ear to ear, I love The Glen, I love driving in the rain, I didn’t want to get out of the car. Luke, JDX Racing and Hertz gave me a car that was fast and planted – the car rolled off the truck fast, I lead the field in the first practice and we tried some different things in the second session on Thursday. I am a little disappointed I wasn’t able to take the pole for our Hertz guests this weekend, but I made up for it in the first race with a pass in turn one right at the start of the race, and lead the field to the checked flag. It was a great weekend for the entire team and I look forward to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in two weeks – it’s one of my favorite tracks!”

Team principal Harrison Brix said, “Angel did exactly what we knew he would do, win races. Not only did he win both rounds this weekend, he led every lap, and that’s the message we wanted to send to the rest of the field. This was Angel’s first time back in a Cup Car since Atlanta last fall, but believe it or not, we still have plenty of work to do. We’re confident we’ll continue to find pace in the car and driver, and we are very much looking forward to carrying this momentum going to Toronto in two weeks.”

The green flag for rounds 7 and 8 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama are scheduled July 9-12 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario. Both races are timed, 45-minute events that support the Tudor United SportsCar Championship Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix Presented by Hawk Performance race on Sunday, July 12. Live timing and scoring will be available on IMSA.com.

LOVELAND, Colo. (June 23rd, 2015) – JDX Racing looks to stir up the Championship in the Platinum class with the signing of Venezuelan sports car racer Angel Benitez Jr. Angel will drive the No. 05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche beginning this weekend at the historic Watkins Glen International Raceway and for all remaining races on the 2015 schedule.

JDX Racing is pleased to announce the signing of Venezuelan race standout Angel Benitez Jr. The 25-year-old sports car racer is a native of Venezuela, where he began racing at the age of 14 in open wheel race cars, claiming two national Championships before launching his career stateside. Angel is no stranger to the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, as Benitez Jr. claimed the Gold Cup Championship in 2012 in his rookie year. Following 11 race wins in his breakout freshman season behind the wheel of the Porsche GT3 Cup car, he stepped into the Platinum class for the next two seasons, where he finished second and third in the championship respectively, all while claiming 10 overall race wins. Angel will make his JDX Racing debut piloting the No. 05 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche.

Benitez Jr. commented, “This is an incredible opportunity for me – thank you to Hertz and JDX Racing, we were finally able to work together. JDX and I first started talking back in 2013, and we have continued to develop a relationship. It is now time to take it out onto the track, with one common goal – win races. It’s actually a pretty nice coincidence that we are starting our race season at one of my favorite race tracks, Watkins Glen. I can assure the fans and the people that follow this great series that I’m really excited to get back in a Porsche. JDX and I are going to work extra hard to represent Hertz, Porsche, the team and series with great pride.”

Team principal Harrison Brix said, “Angel has been such a standout in this series, so we are very excited to have him join Hertz / JDX Racing for the remainder of the 2015 season. He won the Gold Cup Championship in 2012 and participated in the 2013 Porsche Young Driver Academy following his first year in Platinum Cup, so that speaks directly to his commitment and pace in a Porsche. We have wanted to have him in a JDX car for quite some time, but until now, the planets just didn’t align. I have no doubt he will get settled right in and make a charge to front of the field at the drop of the flag.”

The green flag for rounds 4, 5 and 6 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama are scheduled June 25-27 at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York. Round 4 was rescheduled from a rainout in April at NOLA Motorsports Park. All three races are timed, 45-minute events that support the Tudor United SportsCar Championship Sahlen’s Six Hour of The Glen Sunday, June 28. Live timing and scoring will be available on IMSA.com.

LOVELAND, Colo. (April 14th, 2015) – David Ostella made his JDX Racing debut in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, in the inaugural race at NOLA Motorsports Park this past weekend. The first race of the weekend saw the 2013 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada Champion starting on the inside of row two, however a quick spin on the first lap proved costly. The second race of the weekend was a washout, as the skies opened early and the IMSA race stewards cancelled the race due to unsafe track conditions. At press time, a make-up venue and date for round four of the championship has yet to be announced.

JDX Racing arrived at NOLA Motorsports Park along with the wet weather. David took to the 2.75 mile road course for two practice sessions Friday, which ended up being the only dry practice sessions of the weekend. Wet weather continued Saturday morning for qualifying on the rain soaked surface. David managed to wheel the No.13 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche to 3rd position, a fitting start to his first race with JDX.

Though it had rained on and off throughout the day, race one on Saturday afternoon found the track in an almost fully dry condition. In GT3 Cup fashion, the field of 21 cars rumbled down the straight into the bumpy turn one brake zone, with all cars making it through safely. David continued to battle through the first half of the lap, but turn nine greeted him with a snarl, as the tight pack forced him wide, putting two wheels over the curb. A combination of a wet curb and water soaked grass tossed the No.13 into a wicked spin, drivers left – delivering the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche into a very deep and muddy grass runoff next to the tire wall. Due to many hours of hard rain and a lack of drainage, the JDX car was now stuck in a swamp! Once David and the car were extracted, the crew went to work so David could get back out and turn some laps with hopes to qualify for the second race of the weekend (qualifying positions for race two are determined by your fastest lap time in race one).

Ostella commented, “The JDX Racing / Hertz team gave me a great car. The crew did a lot of work to prep the car for the weekend and my luck ran out pretty quickly on the opening lap of the first race, while I was running in a very respectable third position. The racing was tight and I just pushed slightly wide in turn nine and my right side tires got too much curb. I didn’t have a chance once the tires grabbed some of that wet grass – I just accelerated off the track and ended up stuck in a mote.”

Team principal Harrison Brix said, “That’s racing – but this result is not reflective of David’s talent or the hard work by our team. David had limited time in the car and did a great job qualifying P3 – he has plenty of talent and he had plenty of car for the field to contend for a podium finish. We understand and support the decision not to race Sunday, but it’s too bad, because David was very quick in the wet sessions and I’m convinced we would have been a threat in race two.”

LOVELAND, Colo. (April 8th, 2015) – Following a successful freshman season racing in the most competitive single-make sports car race series in the country, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohoma, JDX Racing returns and is looking to spice up the competition at the inaugural race at NOLA Motorsports Park.
JDX Racing announced today the signing of Canadian racing driver David Ostella. The 23-year-old Ostella is a native of Maple, Ontario and was 2013 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada Champion and will make his JDX Racing debut piloting the No. #13 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche. Coincidentally, Ostella won the Canadian championship driving a No.#13 Porsche GT3 Cup car.

Ostella commented, “I’m thrilled to be joining JDX Racing and Hertz for the GT3 Cup Challenge race at NOLA. As you would expect in GT3 Cup, the 2015 series is very competitive, and I’m looking forward to jumping in to the fray. JDX Racing has proven they are race winners and after a year away from racing Porsches, I’m very excited to get back into a Cup Car, especially the new 991. This is going to be a very fun event.”

Team principal Harrison Brix said, “David was a standout in the Canadian Championship in 2013, so much so that he was invited to participate in the Porsche Young Driver Academy. While he is no stranger to the GT3 Cup cars, he is new to the 991 – but we have no doubt that he will adapt quickly and will be a threat for the podium in both races at NOLA this weekend.”

The green flag for Round 3 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama 2015 season flies at 3:25pm EDT on Saturday, April 11 at NOLA Motorsports Park, followed by Round 4 at 12:45pm EDT on Sunday, April 12. Both are timed, 45-minute races that support the Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana on Sunday, April 12. Live timing and scoring will be available on IMSA.com. Television coverage will air April 25-26 on the Sinclair Broadcast Group Network. Each telecast will also be available for streaming via IMSA.com within 24 to 48 hours following the initial Sinclair telecast.

Ft.Collins, CO – Following a successful 2014 campaign in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Championship, Porsche extended an invite to the JDX Racing / Hertz pilot Sloan Urry to attend the Porsche Young Driver Academy, which was held at Barber Motorsports Park this past weekend.

Following a season that included seven podium visits, three for overall race wins and a total of ten top five finishes in the 16 round season, the pursuit for a championship ended at Road Atlanta just a few weeks ago. Although the curtain had dropped for the 2014 race season, a door was swung wide open as Sloan was one of only five drivers to be selected to attend this years prestigious Porsche Young Driver Academy.

The Porsche Young Driver Academy returned to Barber Motorsports Park for the third consecutive year. The Academy provides rising talent the opportunity to further develop their pursuit of a career in motorsports. Sloan received one-on-one instruction from Porsche Sport Driving School instructors Hurley Haywood, Patrick Long and Andrew Davis – not just on fine tuning his driving skills but in other areas such as classroom testing, personality evaluations and media training. The Porsche Young Driver Academy was designed to help future stars of motorsport enhance their professionalism and marketability.

Sloan commented, “The two days at the Academy were the most valuable experience to date in my young career. The time at Barber was a blast, not just the on track but in the classroom as well. The classroom training shed a lot of light on how I can continue to strengthen all off-track aspects of racing. Lapping sessions along with thorough debriefs with Academy instructors was huge. To work with and get feedback from a racing legend like Hurley Haywood is priceless, not to mention current sports car racing stars Patrick Long and Andrew Davis. It was an opportunity that could never have happened without the awesome support and leadership of my team, JDX Racing. I’m looking forward to continuing to build my relationship with Porsche and bringing home more hardware in JDX prepared Porsche race cars”.

JDX Racing team co-owner Harrison Brix commented, “Sloan worked hard all season and being selected to attend the Porsche Young Driver Academy is a true compliment and honor for him and the team. This will give him the opportunity to further develop his talents in all aspects of racing, which is not only on the track, but off the track as well. We are very proud of what he has accomplished in 2014″.

Ft.Collins, CO – Following a spectacular finish in the previous round of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Championship at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, Sloan Urry and JDX Racing were looking for a little luck and some strong results to finish the 2014 race season. Urry managed to qualify the #20 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche on the inside of row two for both races of the weekend at Road Atlanta, so with job one done, the entire team was ready to go racing.

Caution free races at Road Atlanta are rare, however the car was set up to do a long run, so that option (which materialized in race one on Thursday) presented a nice opportunity. The start wasn’t ideal with Sloan slipping to fourth on the run up the hill out of turn one on lap one. That left Sloan fighting hard with the very quick rookie Jesse Lazare. In (successfully) defending his position, the leaders managed to leg out a five second gap – and though Urry was matching or beating the leaders lap times late in the race, it was too little too late. Sloan had to settle for fourth.

Friday morning the skies opened and in the final race of the season, IMSA declared the start of the race wet – mandating that all teams start on purpose built wet weather racing tires. Race control advised the field to “pack up and pair up”, and as the field of 26 Porsche GT3 Cup Cars exited under the bridge at turn 11, the green flag waved very early, bringing the cars down the hill into the 100+ MPH turn 12 – on a very wet racetrack. The wet track surface proved to be no match for the mix of the Porsche horsepower and Yokohama rain tires (which are very good – but even the best rain tire can only move so much water). The #5 car of Michael Lewis spun, Sloan reacted and ended up hydroplaning and making contact with the inside wall – ending his race and his season – just as quickly as he crossed the start / finish line.

The 2014 Season certainly had it’s share of highlights though. The team had limited time with the new specification Porsche GT3 Cup car as they took delivery just prior to the season opener at Sebring. JDX race engineer, Luke Goldenstein, along with Sloan Urry’s feedback managed to build a quicker race car round by round, and the results speak to the teams efforts. Sloan, along with JDX Racing managed to claim ten top five finishes in the 16 round season. Of those top finishes, Sloan visited the podium seven times, three of which were race wins at Canadian Tire Mosport Park, Road America and Circuit of the Americas.

Sloan commented, “What can I say, this isn’t how I wanted to finish the 2014 race campaign – but the entire JDX team worked hard all season long and never relaxed for a moment. I have to thank my race engineer, Luke for working so diligently with me to make the car faster each and every round. I want to also recognize our sponsors for giving us the opportunity to compete in one of the most challenging race series in North America. It was a honor to drive the #20 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche.”

Harrison Brix commented, “This weekend is a good example of what can happen in racing. Sloan got better every race weekend this season, claiming three race wins in his previous six starts – and we acknowledged we needed just a little luck in the season finale – but didn’t get it. Sloan is a class act and we really enjoyed having him under our tent all season. The off season is short, and we are already working on our 2015 campaign.”
