The inaugural ceremony was conducted in the presence of an overwhelming community response. Devotee volunteers had been preparing for months for this special day. This included major renovations, property site development, road improvement, fencing the pond, street lighting and developing the temple website. The county had assigned a new street address to the property – 23 Radhika Way.

Days before the event, devotees stayed up until late hours decorating the altars, making garlands, putting up road signs in the vicinity, making parking arrangements with neighbors and nearby facilities and finishing countless other tasks preparing to welcome the divine couple.

It was a mild, sunny day. The occasion was marked by day-long festivities, Hindu Vedic rituals, and chanting as devotees honored and welcomed the Supreme Lords to their new abode, situated in a serene and peaceful setting overlooking a nearby pond, and enclosed by tall trees.

Kalash Yatra

The day started with kalash yatra, where women and young girls carried the sacred waters while chanting kirtans.

Vedic Rituals

Hindu Vedic rituals and prayers were conducted by respected Dr. Gangadhar Sharma. Mrs. Saroj Sharma rang the first bell of the Radha Krishna Temple of North Carolina. Both are revered community leaders and the founding members of Hindu Society of North Carolina (HSNC). Mr. Gopal Dave, from Maryland, further assisted with the priestly functions.

Many Pujas (Vedic rituals) were done for Ganesh, Durga, Radha Krishna, Navagraha etc.

With love filled hearts and eyes brimming with tears, devotees welcomed their beloved Shri Radha and Krishna to their new home in Apex, a beautiful temple of ‘divine love’ – the Radha Krishna Temple of North Carolina! The bewitching beauty of the deities, resplendent in their regal attire, jewels and curly hair captivated the hearts of the devotees. Their mesmerizing, nectarine gaze enchanted the mind of the beholder and one could not help but linger on to derive more joy from it. Many devotees lovingly sponsored the Lord’s Murali or flute. It was as if Vrindavan had descended upon Apex!

Several groups and individuals participated in day long chanting and bhajans. People were delighted to see the supreme Lords and spend blissful moments in the calm inviting surroundings on this day with perfect outdoor weather.

The off-site parking and long crowds did not deter the devotees from coming to visit the temple. Dedicated devotee volunteers kept directing endless stream of cars all day long. Even after the evening arati the flow of devotees did not subside. A group of young girls continued to chant long after the evening arati, in the spiritually charged atmosphere.

Currently, the new temple is housed in the lower level of the Center of Human Excellence Building. Often when we are wronged, we look toward God to bestow justice. However, when we are at fault in some way, we expect his grace.

Grace or Justice?

The reality is that if God did not bestow his grace, we would never reach him due to our stockpile of infinite karmas. Our karmas occur due to Maya, which is the material energy of God and therefore cannot be warded off with our puny efforts. Further, under the influence of Maya we continue to commit sins. Due to these sins, we accumulate more karmic reactions that continue to keep us in the cycle of life and death. The question then is, will we ever be free from sin? The answer is yes – if we get the grace of God, it will burn away our sins from endless lifetimes and make us eligible to realize God. How can we get his grace? Watch the video to find out the condition one must fulfill to receive the grace of God.

God is attained, not through personal efforts in spiritual practice or sadhana, but through his grace alone. This is a powerful daily prayer composed by Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj. It begins with salutations to the Guru and ends with a humble cry. When recited with sincerity, over time it can make one realize the futility of one’s own efforts in reaching God. Instead the realization dawns, through the grace of Shree Maharajji, that we have reached the end of our rope. The only thing that can save us from ruin now, is the causeless grace of God in bestowing the alms of divine love upon us, since we clearly do not deserve Divine Love being so impure. It brings one to a state of humility before the Divine.

Kick off your morning with this beautiful heartfelt call to the divine, follow it up with a chant or Kirtan and conclude with Aarti. Following this routine everyday will gradually strengthen your connection to the Divine both during sadhana and through the day. Play this video to recite the daily prayer with Swamiji. For your convenience English translations are provided below for each line of the daily prayer.

Through a story he first highlights the importance of drawing our attention to the things for which we are grateful in life. Often the root of dissatisfaction and consequent mental problems is a lack of gratefulness for our many blessings. We are too focused on how life should be instead of being thankful for what is and using it to attract more success. Through a reinforced pattern of negative thinking, our will power to use our resources and initiative to change, takes a hit and we stop making progress. Thoughts act at a very fundamental yet subtle level to change our lives. In this way we attract circumstances according to our thoughts.

Power of Positive Thoughts – They are Things!

Einstein concluded in his theory of relativity, that matter, and energy are interchangeable.

Shri Krishna states in the Chapter 7, Verse 4 of the Bhagavad Gita that everything in this world is his energy.

भूमिरापोऽनलो वायु: खं मनो बुद्धिरेव च |

अहङ्कार इतीयं मे भिन्ना प्रकृतिरष्टधा || 4||

Earth, water, fire, air, space, mind, intellect, and ego—these are eight components of my material energy.

This includes thoughts, since they are generated within the mind! Just like electromagnetic waves, thoughts are subtle entities that can take form and travel. Swami Vivekananda said:

“We are what our thoughts have made us; so, take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.”

Power of Positive Thoughts – They Affect Your Health

Negative thoughts can affect body chemistry to cause disease. When the mind generates stressful thoughts, the body responds by secreting stress hormones that increase the heart rate and blood pressure. Any threat big or small evokes the same response from the body and over time, leads to gradual damage and disease. However, the ancient Indian scriptures such as the Yog Vasishtha, have already mentioned that the root of disease is the mind. Watch the video to learn more!

Power of Positive Thoughts – They Change Your Appearance

Repeated thoughts and actions cause the facial and body muscles to respond in the same way each time the thought is generated. Over time, others can tell if we are stressed or cheerful just by looking at us. A furrowed brow, sagging face, hunched back, are signs of someone who is under a great deal of stress. On the other hand, a glowing face, an erect back, and confident gait indicate someone with a great deal of positive energy and inspiration. Watch the video to learn more about how thoughts affect our appearance!

Hanuman ji enthusiastically and skillfully serves Lord Ram overcoming any obstacles that lie in his path of devotion and service. He has a fondness for hearing Ram Katha and is said to be present anywhere the Ram Katha is being related.

Hanuman Leelas – Ram addresses Hanuman as twice of Lakshman

Ram and Lakshman reach the Rishyamukh mountain in search of help to find Mother Sita who has been kidnapped by Ravan. Sugriv, a Vaanar prince is living on this mountain with his close associates in fear of his brother Bali who has banished him. Sugriv sees Ram and Lakshman approaching and orders Hanuman to get information about them thinking them to be associates of Bali and therefore his enemies. Hanuman adopts the guise of a priest and playfully questions the brothers. When he realizes that his master Lord Ram is present before him, he falls at the feet of Ram and offers to carry the brothers on his back, up the mountain to meet Sugriv. Ram then addresses Hanuman as being twice of his dear brother Lakshman. This leaves Lakshman pondering. Watch the video to find out how Lakshman’s confusion gets resolved.

Hanuman Leelas – He Overcomes Every Obstacle in the Service of Lord Ram

When Hanuman is flying across the ocean to reach Lanka in search of Mother Sita, he encounters three obstacles in his way. Swamiji beautifully describes how Hanuman uses humility, intelligence and courage as required to overcome these obstacles and inspires us to use all our faculties and qualities to overcome obstacles faced during devotion and service. Watch the video to learn more!

Hanuman Leelas – He is Blessed by Mother Sita with Many Powers

In Lanka, Hanuman ji meets Vibhishan and graces him on the path of Ram Bhakti.

Then he proceeds to find Sita ji who is emaciated in separation from Lord Ram. Upon hearing from Hanuman, news of Ram approaching Lanka to rescue her from Ravan, Mother Sita is exceedingly happy. She blesses him with many powers. Watch the video to get a glimpse of Hanuman ji’s dedication to the lotus feet of Lord Ram and Sita ji.

This Hanuman Jayanti let us seek the blessing of Hanuman ji to help us attain the divine service of God!

Their sweet meeting takes place during the sojourn of Ram and Lakshman along with Sage Vishwamitra to the land of Mithila, where preparations are underway for the Sita Swayamvar.

Ram Sita Milan – Lord Ram Enchants Mithila with his divine beauty

King Janak, Sita ji’s father, hears of the arrival of the two princes. When he goes to receive them, he is spellbound by their divinely beautiful forms, despite being a worshipper of the formless. He recovers from his divine stupor and immediately invites them to reside within Mithila as special guests.

Ram and Lakshman, at the behest of Sage Vishwamitra, roam the capital city. Their divine beauty immediately captures the hearts of the residents of Mithila. The women fondly wish for Sita ji to marry Lord Ram, so that they can benefit from his Darshan every time he visits Mithila. However, they lament the fact that King Janak has set such a difficult test to be overcome for Sita ji’s hand, in the Swayamvar– stringing the mighty bow of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva’s bow is heavy and seeing Lord Ram’s youthful form, they think that the prince will not be able to lift it. In this way the brothers enchant and capture the full attention of the people of Mithila.

Ram Sita Milan – But Who Captures the Heart of even Lord Ram?

The princes go to a garden the next morning to pluck flowers for Sage Vishwamitra’s morning worship. Coincidentally Sita ji is also present in the same garden as she has come to worship in the temple of Girija devi, prior to the Swayamvar. Watch this video to relish the sweet bliss of the divine meeting of Lord Ram and Sita ji through Swamiji’s immensely devotional description. The Ram Sita Milan is one of the most beautiful pastimes in the Ramayana.

Lamenting the past also affects our spiritual progress since our mind remains on the past rather than on God. Instead we blame God for our misfortunes and move far away from him.

Serious Spiritual Aspirants Avoid Lamenting the Past

However, one who is serious about spiritual progress learns the art of being positive and grateful always. Being grateful is not something we inherently possess – it can and must be practiced by keeping the right knowledge in the intellect. We are taught to become sad when we suffer reversals in fortune. What if you were to know that all your perceived misfortunes are really a spiritual blessing in disguise and something to be grateful for? Watch this video to find out the powerful knowledge that will end the disease of lamenting the past.

We often feel that despite having it all, life is not fulfilling, as it lacks meaning. Knowing why we want the things we want, enables us to find meaning and clarity in life.

This is turn allows us to reorient our life in the direction of that for which we are searching – our actual goal in life. It opens the gateway to an expansive existence beyond our wildest dreams – one that is fulfilling and authentic in every way, one that will help us tide over any obstacles.

“Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how’.”

― Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

However, for such a transformation to happen, we need to be extremely honest with our own patterns of behavior and put in the effort to figure out what makes us tick. Through a logical sequence Swamiji helps us step through the reason behind all the reasons that we do anything. It will surprise you to know that no matter what corner of the world we are in or what our stature in life is, we are looking for the same thing! Mind blowing is it not? Watch the video to find out what this singular goal in life of every being is.
