Hard to imagine Tiger Woods winning one more major much less the four he needs to run down Jack Nicklaus. But he says if you’re betting against him, you’re going to lose because he plans on winning tournaments on into his 50s. Doubt that.

How are you going to win a tournament at 50 when you barely do it in your 30s. At 50, you’ll probably be on your 10th swing, 8th coach, 7th caddy and 4th wife. And you really need to keep Tom Watson’s name out of your mouth when talking about guys who win at an advanced age. Watson is still competitive because he’s so tough mentally and stable emotionally. He’s not some head case who’s kicking his clubs and screaming down photogs when things don’t go his way. Instead of focusing on winning into your 50s, worry about still shooting in the 70s while in your 30s.

Further evidence that Tiger Woods’ biggest problem is the space between his ears. After nearly shooting himself out of another tourney in the first round yesterday at the TPC Sawgrass, he actually cried about fans shooting him with their camera phones in his backswing: “Just put it on silent. It’s not that hard. It can cost guys’ tournaments.”

C’mon man. Is this really a guy that we all used to glorify as the mentally toughest athlete on the planet. We couldn’t’ have been more wrong. And neither could he about this. People taking your picture isn’t the reason you’re not winning tournaments. It’s your jacked up driver, broken putter and lame iron work. And oh your infected dome and shattered confidence too. This guy has never looked or sounded worse than he does right now.

Winning at Bay Hill doesn’t mean you’re back. Not if you follow it up by panicking at the Masters and then missing the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship altogether. I don’t care what this guy says, he’s not right mechanically nor mentally and you don’t need to be Jack Nicklaus to see it. Stop telling the rest of us we have no idea what we’re talking about, and go back to Butch Harmon…. Someone who will tell you what you need to hear and not what you want to hear. You’re no longer Tiger Woods, and you need Harmon worse than he needs you.

Is this a video chat or a hostage video? Who thought this was a good idea. And did anyone actually make it past the two minute mark? Oh and one more…is that really even Eldrick or an animatronic dummy that they propped in front of a Macbook?

Nothing says keeping it real and connecting with your fans like mono-toning your way through scripted answers to pre-screened questions with the same robotic demeanor he uses with the media. Dude’s stiffer on the internet that he is on the greens. His fans could have gotten way more insight and more colorful responses by firing their questions at Siri.

He didn’t write a book, but another one of Tiger Woods’ former coaches took a pretty good run at him. Butch Harmon says Woods is too robotic and that he’s lost his nerve. “I think everyone thought because he won at Bay Hill that he was back. Well, he didn’t hit it great at Bay Hill. He hit it ok. And Bay Hill’s not a major.” Exactly.

Rack Butch. That win at Bay Hill meant nothing. His confidence is shattered and his nerves are shot. How else would you explain him showing up at Augusta and snap hooking his first two drives and willing most of his putts out of the cup. You can say Butch Harmon is nothing more than a disgruntled former coach. But I’m going to say he’s exactly right in what he says and at this point, Woods needs Harmon a lot more than Harmon needs Woods.

Tiger Woods’ swing coach Sean Foley wants everyone to just get off his prized pupil: “It has just gotten to the point where the tearing down of Tiger as a person and a golfer has become too much. I think it is just out of hand.”

What beatdown is he getting personally? A few catcalls on the course? He made that bed: he can lie in it. And any flack he gets for his game, he deserves. He was allegedly ‘back’ after winning at Bay Hill, and then completely unraveled at the Masters finishing in a tie for 40th and generally acting like a jerk on the course.

Sounds like your comedy coach isn’t any more effective than your swing coach. And if you try to justify it by throwing the ‘I just want to win so badly’ card, the joke’s on you. You don’t want it any worse than anyone else out there; so keep that lame excuse in your bag. But don’t take my word for it; listen to former Ryder Cup captain Paul Azinger: “I thought he acted like the south end of a northbound mule.” I don’t need a compass to know where you’re going with that Zinger. Stay classy, Tige. You shouldn’t have more GD bombs than you do birdies. This isn’t an example of how competitive you are, its evidence of how little self control you have, and how jacked up your game still is.

Can’t lie, I had lefty winning it when the day started. And Phil Mickelson might have if not for that disastrous par 3 fourth. He played himself right out of a fourth green jacket right there. He clanged his tee shot off the grandstand…into the bamboo…his second shot went six inches. His third, about six yards: and his fourth went to the beach. The only thing missing was the Benny Hill theme underneath it. And why didn’t he just hit control-alt-delete on the whole thing and go back to the tee? Quote: “Well, then I got the hardest shot again.” You think? It seems to me the hardest shot was the reverse wedge out of the bamboo that you had to hit right handed. When lefty, turns into righty, it’s time to take a walk back to the tee box.

As far as that sucker bet of Tiger Woods against the field, I’d love to say I told you so. But that’s not my deal. I’m not that guy. But I told you so. Oh he’s back all right. Waaay back. 15 shots back of the leader. Back to his amateur days in the mid 90s, which was the last time he failed to break par at the Masters. Picked by many to win it, he finished in a tie for 40th. Come to find out, the rebuilt swing may be good enough to win the Arnie Invite, but not the Masters.

At least he kept his head and lost with class. No he didn’t. After he jacked his tee shot Friday on the par 3 16th, he dropped his iron and booted it across the tee box. Way to be a gentleman, face of golf... your average beered up 20 handicapper playing 18 on a Saturday shows more respect for the local muni than Tiger did for the Masters.

Tige, you’re a four time champion, not a four year old. And if you’re not going to play like a champion, at least try to act like one.

While most are waiting on something that may never happen: Tiger’s return to prominence, I’m going to celebrate the official arrival of one Bubba Watson. Because there has never been another like him. Dude won his first major, at Augusta, tearing up the course with a big pink bat, while pulling off one of the greatest shots in Master’s history… that crazy hook out of the woods on number 10 in sudden death. The sport has never seen a cat quite like Bubba: a guy whose next golf lesson will be his first, and who even after the dramatic win, insisted golf isn’t his everything. Maybe that’s the key, Tige: try easier.

Bubba wanted that win badly…. Just not as badly as he wanted to get home to see his wife and recently adopted baby son, Caleb.
Look, we’ve gone down this road before. And rushing to anoint the next big thing inevitably means never seeing that cat ever again. But I think ol Bubba is here to stay.

Not sharing his sugar free popsicles is one thing. Refusing to speak with an ailing family member is another. ESPN reports Tiger Woods won’t return calls to his half brother, Kevin Woods, who is suffering from M.S., is confined to a wheelchair, needs a caretaker and is on the verge of losing his house. Another half brother, Earl Woods Jr. smacked the cat saying, “I’d like to (slap) Tiger, wake him up…I’d like to say, ‘don’t come knocking on the door when you need a Bone-marrow transplant.” When Bone marrow transplant scuds are being fired, the family tree is burning.

If this is true, it’s brutal. Dude probably has enough money in his golf bag to take care of these folks for the rest of their lives. And they can’t even get him on the phone. Then again, the name of his yacht is “privacy” not “family.”

The Masters is firing up, Tiger Woods is coming off his first legitimate PGA Tour win in 30 months, so everyone is asking, is he finally back and is he the guy to beat this week at Augusta. No. And no. Back? No. Back on track, maybe.

But that guy who when went to sleep in the street, bare-footed after bouncing his rig off a tree is never coming back. That guy is dead and gone. And winning the Arnie Invite in his own backyard doesn’t mean he’s back. If he rolls through Augusta this week, I’ll sit in this chair next Monday and say he’s back. Until then taking Tiger over the field this week, is a sucker bet. That field has never been more wide open and I’m still taking Rory McIlroy and hefty before I take the cat.

Question- What were you doing when you were 22? Firing out resumes and hoping for a mail room gig? Waiting tables? Trying to figure out a way to break up with your college girlfriend? Rory McIlroy is 22, and he just became the #1 Golfer in the World by winning the Honda Classic in Palm Beach yesterday.

At 22- What were the rest of us #1 at? Playing Zelda? Flip-Cup? Microwaving burritos? McIlroy became the World's #1 by withstanding a run from the guy who used to be. Tiger Woods spun the clock back about 5 years, went into Pre-Escalade mode, found his putter and pulled a Eagles out of his backside to card a 62. And I think just as impressive as Eldrick dropping a Sunday 62... Is McIlroy not even blinking when he did. It was the kind of old-school Sunday run that Tige used to go on and get dudes shaking in their spikes and blowing leads. You know – look out... here comes Tiger... When he starts reaching in 2... You can cancel Christmas? McIlroy didn't give a damn. He knew what was going on, he just didn't care. He said after the round that he heard the crowd explode when Woods eagled 18, and that was the one time during his round that Woods even occurred to him. “The only time I really thought about [Woods] was when I heard that roar on 18,” McIlroy said. “I knew that putt on 13 was going to be very important." And it was. And he buried it. McIlroy is so young, yet so brass. "The only time I really thought about him" ...was right before I sank that birdie, and then he never crossed my mind again. Like- why would he? He's flying up the leaderboard? Good for him. I'm on top of it. And I'm going to finish on top of it. A lot of other dudes standing over a birdie putt on 13... Only to hear the hometown crowd go ballistic about Tiger on 18... Would miss that putt 3-cupholes wide and blow it 8 feet past the hole. McIllroy went center-cut. He one-putted 4 of the last 6 holes, chipped out of the deep rough, was nails from the bunker and never looked threatened for a second. When he says he never thought about Tiger down the stretch- I believe him. Just as I believe every time I watch him play that his meltdown at the Masters is not something we're ever going to see again from the dude. Tiger had the best final round of his career... And it still wasn't enough to rattle Rory. And at 22.. The best golfer in the world is only getting better.
