If any NFL team is looking for an over-the-hill quarterback who insists he’s still a starter despite being traded within his own division and run out of the last three cities he’s been in, Donovan McNabb is your man. And he says he’s in great shape after losing 15-20 pounds.

Not that he was ever out of shape, mind you: “because for me, people may have seen how strong I look. And they kind of equated that to ‘he may be out of shape’ or whatever.” You mean the athlete equivalent of ‘I’m not fat, I’m just big boned.”

That’s funny, Adrian Peterson is jacked and no one has ever accused him of being fat. Yo Don, if you weren’t’ out of shape, then why are you out of football? If you weren’t out of shape, why did you just lose 20 pounds. Better to be out of shape, than to be out of the league. No one cares if you lose 10% body fat if you can’t complete 60% of your passes. If I were Donovan McNabb, I’d be screaming from the rooftops, I was so out of shape, my boys glossed me Cinnamon McFlab. You’re welcome.

He said NFL’ers know exactly what they sign up for….and when a Twitter follower asked him if he would trade his job for any other, he said, “No. I love playing football. If I can’t walk when I’m 50 it was well worth it.”

First off, White’s unlikely to end up in a wheelchair. I’ve seen linemen and linebackers in wheelchairs but not too many wideouts. They’re not getting blown up on every play of the game. And to each his own, but I’m not sure any gig is worth a wheelchair for the second half of your life. Because the guys who are rolling around in them aren’t remembering the good times. Usually, they can’t remember anything at all. And they’re depressed, divorced or bankrupt. Or all of the above. I don’t think you want any of that Roddy.

Score this one… for the bounties have been around as long as the game has…crowd. Former NFL’er turned analyst Cris Carter admitted he used to put bounties on defensive players he thought were coming for him: “I’d tell one of them guards, ‘hey man, this dude is after me, man. Bill Romanowski. He told me he’s gonna take me out before the game, in warm-ups.”

You mean, something like, yo fellas Romo just said he was going to kill me and mentioned something about bacon and I think he means it. There’s a grand in your locker if you take this psycho out?

Those guards were probably like, hey C.C. we have to deal with Keith Traylor and Trevor Pryce, and we get hit on every play. Come back when the number’s 20.

Did I really see Terrell Owens on Dr. Phil yesterday? With three of his baby mamas? Along with Dr. Phil, all essentially saying the same thing; good player, bad dad? And if you’re scoring at home, it’s actually four women, with four kids. Considering there was no, “Two, you are not the father” moment, I can’t imagine what he thought he was going to get out of that? Probably figures since football is no longer an option, it’s his only way to get on T.V. If you don’t want to raise your kids, you have to at least support them financially. And if you can’t do that, you shouldn’t have had them.

Having one bad night, making one bad choice and leaving one kid with an absentee father is bad enough. But doing it four times is unconscionable. And don’t tell me these women target pro athletes and are just looking to get paid. Right. You’re a pro athlete, if don’t know that, you haven’t been paying attention. Or using protection.

Green Bay Packer Anthony Hargrove reportedly signed a declaration stating he was told by Saints assistant coaches Gregg Williams and Joe Vitt to play dumb when the NFL asked about a bounty program. The league believes this is evidence the program existed, Hargrove participated in it and that he did lie when asked about it. The NFLPA, meanwhile argues that doesn’t prove that there was a program or that any players were involved. And Joe Vitt says he never told Hargrove to deny the existence of a bounty program. So obviously someone is lying. This is going to get worse before it gets better. And greasier and slimier.

Kurt Warner has to be thinking, ‘if I’m retired why are cats still coming for me? I’m not wearing any pads, so why are dudes still putting bounties on me? Because guys have been busting him up since he said last week that he’d prefer that his sons not play football. Former teammate Amani Toomer accused him of trashing the game and said he should “keep his opinions to himself.” Because that’s what you want: a paid analyst not to express his opinions. And former NFL’er Merril Hoge called it “irresponsible and unacceptable.” Not Toomer’s comments, Warner’s. And he went on to say Warner has “thrown the game that has been so good to him under the bus. He sounds extremely uneducated.” I’ll tell you who sounds uneducated: everyone rushing to bury Warner.

You think Kurt Warner, of all people, doesn’t know what the game has done for him and his family? Dude’s not talking as a bitter football player; he’s talking as a concerned father. I’m sure Warner loves the game. Just not as much as he loves his children. And that’s the way it should be.

I just know I hate this. Because T-Sizz is not only one of the league’s best players, he might be its best personality. Who else is going to rock a tee with a Raven flashing a middle finger and saying “bleep Pittsburgh”. Nobody. Who else is going to come on my radio show and rap Tim Tebow by saying the reason he prays during games is because he’s not good enough so he needs to. Bad break. For the Ravens and the rest of the shield. Because the guy who hails from Ball So Hard University won’t, for quite some time.

Roger Goodell knows the price these players pay to play the game, which is why he hammered the Saints again for their bounty program…and players league wide were furious.

James Harrison tweeted that the suspensions were “ridiculous” and “severe”. Lamar Woodley hit Goodell with a “C’mon, man.” Saints wide out Lance Moore dug deep for his take saying, “I’ll just say it sucks.” Wake up. Goodell suspended just two Saints players when he could whacked a quarter of their roster, so it could have been much worse.

Besides, this isn’t about Jonathan Vilma or the Saints. It’s about the shield and making the game safer. No one is saying put flags on these guys. Goodell is simply saying don’t put bounties on each other. The game is violent enough without them paying each other for cart offs. The commissioner got this one right.

Take: Junior Seau Takes Own Life

Most were shocked when they heard Junior Seau had taken his own life. We were shocked because most of us would give our right arm to trade places with the man. But who’s to say that maybe he wouldn’t have traded places with many of us.

I don’t know what sorts of demons he was dealing with, but they must have been hellacious if he felt there was no way out. And that’s one of the saddest aspects of this story.

The man clearly needed help, could’ve have gotten it, but seemingly didn’t know how to ask for it. Or his pride wouldn’t allow him to. I don’t know if the game led to his apparent suicide or not. I don’t want to jump to any conclusions. But would it surprise anyone if it did. He wouldn’t be the first and unfortunately probably won’t be the last. We’re only now beginning to learn the price these players pay to play the game.

Is that what we’re calling you putting an asterisk on their dynasty and dropping into an Ed Reed-like backpedal from it as soon you said it…a distortion.

You said they have asterisks on their titles and their dynasty was stained. Nothing to distort or confuse here. C’mon man, your last name is Harbaugh, your brand is ‘say what you mean, mean what you say’. So do that that. Browns Q.b. Colt McCoy had a night. A terrible night. And it looked like it might be one of his best nights ever. The team put a stud behind him in Trent Richardson with the third pick. Then, all they had to do was grab receiver Kendall Wright with the 22nd pick and McCoy would have been golden. Except, Tennessee ripped Wright with the 20th pick and two picks later, McCoy’s world was rocked when the Browns took 28 year old Q.b. Brandon Weeden.

Personally, I think that’s a very strange pick. But it would be even more bizarre to burn a first rounder on a 28 year and not play him. That would be ridiculous. Sort of like all that talk coming from the team about how it expected McCoy to make a quote, “big leap” this year. To quote another famous former Browns Q.b., who things have not worked out for: Now you’re done! Colt.

Take: Goodell Bear Hugging Draft Picks

I have to admit, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell bear-hugging draft picks on stage is a little strange. Then again, it is the single greatest moment of that player’s life, he’s looking to celebrate with someone and the Commissioner is the first person the player runs into. Never mind that in a year or two, that same player will probably hate the Commissioner like most players do. But for now, it’s all love.

Take this unbelievable moment: Chargers first rounder Melvin Ingram hits the stage. And then hits the Commish with a five slap combo shake like they’d been boys since high school.

Again, Goodell bear hugging these cats like he’s their dad is bizarre, but this embrace is so unbelievable, it deserves its own bullet: let me break this down. This isn’t one of those trainwreck sniper shakes, where one dude goes for a pound and the other goes for an open palm and the entire exchange goes right into the side of a mountain. You know, like when Dontari Poe zigged and Goodell zagged and they nearly shared a smooch. This wasn’t that. This was clean. Check it in slo-mo:

Forehand…backhand…forehand….bang, bang, bang…bring it in!

I’ve seen NBA teammates drop pre-rehearsed handshakes during player intros that aren’t nearly as tight at that. And I think I’m pretty safe in assuming NBA commish David Stern isn’t leaving his feet to hit Anthony Davis with a flyng chest bump only to chase it with a fist-bump, blow-up at the NBA Draft in June.

You just know Rog hit Ingram with, “Wadup Melv…it’s been a minute son…go get that paper.”

Take: The Hoodie Clears A Path To The Kitchen

Taking in the Draft last night, I was expecting another episode of ‘football hoarders’ starring Bill Belichick. You know, the show where the camera crew’s unable to work its way through the Hoodie’s horrific house because every available inch of space is occupied by 6th and 7th round picks that he keeps adding. Doesn’t need and never uses. Instead the Hoodman, traded up, not down, and not once but twice. ESPN reports the NFL is moving to suspend the Pro Bowl game: moving to suspend it? Just kill it and be done with it. The Pro Bowl is a joke.

Everyone wants the paid vacation to Hawaii, but no one wants to actually play in the game. Guys who should be in it want no part of it, and guys who have no business being there, actually get to play. Now it’s nothing more than a glorified intramural flag football game only much less competitive. This dog should have been put down a long time ago. Give it the spike and don’t think twice.
