Foyer
I spotted these two cute chairs on Craigslist and I'm debating if I should pick them up. I think they would look great in the foyer against the iron wall, and I have two cute orange pillows that would look great on them! Ok, as I write this, I'm now convinced that I have to have them! 1. What kind of art do you create?
I do mostly digital illustration, with hand-drawn elements and added textures, that I create or find.

2. When did you start doing this?
I've been a freelance illustrator since 1997. I've been with the Lilla Rogers Studio since around 2000.

3. Where and when do you do most of your creative work?
I seem to do most of my work at home, after 8pm (after my daughter goes to bed).

4. What challenges have you found in your work?
My biggest challenge is time. I have a day job, as creative director at a Vegas travel website, so I have to find time after work to do my illustration work.

5. Where do you find inspiration?
I find most of my inspiration online at various blogs and websites. Usually I find it all through the Google Reader, http://www.google.com/reader , an RSS feed aggregator, which makes it much easier to visit many more blogs and websites and "burn" through their posts. Basically, instead of you going out to look at the internet, it comes to you. You can organize the blogs you subscribe to in folders, and it updates automatically whenever a new post goes up. Also, you can "like" posts, and "share" things with other people.

For instance, if you "like" posts about a vintage poster, mid-century modern furniture, and collage, eventually the Reader will start recommending other blogs with related posts. I have found some amazing new blogs through the Reader.

With the sharing button, you can share things with people who are following you. You can share publicly or with just people you choose. I share publicly at http://www.google.com/reader/shared/johncoulter

6. What are you working on right now?
I'm working on some Fall surface designs for Papyrus. I'm always doing personal projects and experimenting with my "new" illustration style, and I try to participate in Illustration Friday http://illustrationfriday.com when I can.

I can't believe my husband and I ever thought of doing this ourselves, pouring cement is one tough job! Now that I see the professionals doing this, I'm glad I get to sit back and watch.

The cement will be dry in 2 or 3 hours but it still needs to be left alone for a week. I will definitely need to rope off that area, I can so see my mailman hopping up those things.

The cement guys are still outside doing the finishing touches, I'll take more images when they are done.

Wednesday my husband and I cut wire mesh for the circle forms in preparation for the cement delivery that is getting here in about 10 hours. It felt like it was never going to get done and I'm giddy just thinking about skipping on my circles! I'll keep you updated on the progress.

It's finally going to happen! The circle forms are done for our walkway and we are going to get someone to pour and finish the circles in about a week. It's going to take about 180 sq ft of cement to fill all the circles! We got quoted $800, I wish it was cheaper but I'm so sick of looking at empty circles that I just don't care anymore. I hope it comes out looking fantastic!

I'm so sad the show is over.

My home can get quite chilly in the cold winter months, especially in the living room/ dinning room area. We do have this beautiful fireplace that we use often, but every time we burn wood it looks cozy and warm, but all that hot air just gets sucked up the chimney making the room even colder!

We started looking into modern looking pellet stoves and at fireplace inserts for just burning wood. I don't think we have many options finding a modern looking pellet stove for our type of fireplace but I think we can get a simple and sleek insert that blows the hot air back into the room. I'm not sure which is better to get yet, we still need to go to a fireplace store and talk to someone about it. Have any of you updated your fireplace? And was it worth it?
