At many times in our lives, we will run into tough financial situations where big decisions have to be made. I know that “Spring Cleaning” is the phrase, but this fall I may take some time to do some “Fall Cleaning” as well! I recently moved again, and am just now getting to the point of being done with all of the seemingly endless unpacking. However, there are some places where I sort of just shoved a box in a closet to get it out of the way, or haphazardly placed items in drawers. Perhaps this fall, I can go back and make some of these areas a bit more organized which will be nice for the long run.

There’s something relaxing about listening to the rain falling outside. It’s got a quiet, repetitive nature, I guess. It reminds us of days long ago as young children, stuck inside because of the rain, yet enjoying the chance to be cozy and play and rest inside for a day. It makes us grateful to have homes to live in to keep us dry and warm. And it is refreshing to both the air and the earth. The rainfall totals add up and the meteorologists analyze (which is important, to be sure), but there’s just something about the simple beauty of the rain that can’t quite be quantified, or put into words. It is simply experienced.

When it comes time to choose an instrument, whether you are a child going into middle school, or an adult who is growing a bit restless in retirement, it is important to look around and find an instrument that is a good fit for you. Try the trumpet, a buffet clarinet, the drums, the violin, the cello, the harpsichord, the marimba, the harp, the dulcimer, the guitar… the list goes on and on. Just be open minded! Initially, I was interested in other instruments, but discovered I have a knack for certain types of percussion. I’ve played percussion now for over a decade – and I hope to keep it going!
