Clinton McDonald’s has generously agreed to give the Pool 15% of all income from 5 to 7pm (only), on Thursday July 21st and August 4th.

An article appeared in this week’s Clinton Courier about the Clinton Central School Board’s discussion about the future of the pool. At the May 24 Board of Education meeting, the Courier reports, Facilities Committee Chairman Mike Lewis indicated that this could be the last year for the pool. Lewis was quoted in the Courier as saying “I believe the pool is an asset to the community but it needs a lot of work and there are tough times.”

School Superintendent Matt Reilly, on the other hand, said in the Courier that it was premature to suggest that the pool has outlived its usefulness. Reilly told the Courier that they were still working on a plan.

The pool, in fact, has recently been quite useful for the community. During the 2010 season, the pool had more than 3,000 bathers…an average of 51 swimmers each day. There were 53 family membership, up from 38 in 2009.

Dawn Burdick, Clinton Youth Foundation (the pool) VP, noted that “the pool was the last thing this community has for kids during the summer and what a shame it would be to lose it.” A shame indeed.

How can you help? Attend the June 28 School Board Meeting and tell them how valuable the pool is to the Clinton Community.

The Clinton Community Pool is a non-profit organization offering recreational swimming, lessons, programs, and events throughout the summer.

The Clinton Community Pool is located on Norton Ave., next to Clinton Central School, Clinton, NY.

The pool is open June-August.

The Turning Stone Resort & Casino will host a PGA golf tournament at the beautiful Atunyote Golf Club August 2-8, 2010. The Turning Stone Resort Championship’s Tickets for Charity program, in its fourth year, has chosen the pool as one of many charities to sell tickets. “Good Any Day” tickets, priced at $25, can be used any day during the tournament week from Wednesday through Sunday. Those same tickets will cost $35 at the gate. Tickets from the program will be on sale through July 30. Contact the pool to purchase tickets by stopping by or sending us an email. Turning Stone allows non-profits like the pool to keep 100% of the revenue from ticket sales. Support the pool and enjoy a PGA event.

Eat at McDonald’s in Clinton this Thursday and they will graciously donate 15% of profits to the pool. You didn’t want to cook anyway!

There may be a slight delay in opening the pool due to unforeseen circumstances. The pool had to be emptied, re-cleaned, and re-filled and is on target to be opened on 6/23, the last day of school, but may be open as early as Sunday. The pool building and grounds are looking beautiful and the pool staff and board are looking forward to a great 2010 season. Check back here for updates.
