JB on the Radio

I'm excited to say that we've been getting a lot of radio play all over the US & Canada. We've been playing on The Penguin radio (request one of our songs here - http://thepenguinrocks.ning.com/ ). Also, a song of JB is going to be played on WEHC, Thursday, April 30th between 9-11pm EST. I'll try to keep this up to date on more times I know that our music is going to be played.

I'm excited to say that our CD got reviewed by The Aquarian Weekly. We were in last week's printed issue and posted on-line. Here's a quote from the article:

"Jack Brag is a band that has upheld that murky time tunnel of mysterious Psychedelic Furs-meets-The Chameleons genre, mixing Curtis Ian-styled vocals with Peter Bucked jangling guitars and Robert Smith fringed string arrangements, all burning bright within their poppy punk wave sound and covered with a curious outer shell of deliciously dark chamber music influence."

Prepping materials for the Press

Tony spent hours upon hours working on getting our CD out to radio stations and press. Of course he had done some amazing prep work finding & e-mailing all these interesting stations. He received great response & sent out well over a 100 Jack Brag CDs to interested parties. In his delirium of putting all this together, he took a picture - priceless!

We had a wonderful time opening the show for the Winter Hours' 1st Tribute Gig. I believe there were 10 groups that performed that afternoon, and they were all so amazing. We all played our song from the Winter Hours' tribute album, "A Few Uneven Rhymes." The gig was at a lovely gallery, 1978 Maplewood Arts Center, Maplewood NJ, that was filled to standing room only during the performances. Jeff Raspe did a wonderful job of creating and being the inspiration for the album & was really touching as the MC. Below is a picture from him of Jack Brag performing "She Waits." Deena Shoshkes (from The Cucumbers) joined us to perform the song from the album "Hyacinth Girl."

We had a wonderful time with Deena at the gig in Hoboken at the Goldhawk. Though it was very snowy that day, many people braved the weather to come out to support Deena. We were playing on what is possibly the smallest stage ever, but we made it work (ok, so some of us had to be off the stage, but we all kind of fit). The gig at Ace of Clubs went really well. People really enjoyed the song that Kevin & I did for The Maledictions. He wrote a lovely song and it was fun to write an accompaniment to it.

Jack Brag was great! We were really tight in our playing and we got great audience response. We had a professional photographer there to document our playing and I'll be posting some of the pictures in the next few days.

We have some more gigs coming up soon that I will announce probably next week.

Playing with The Maledictions

Kevin, from The Maledictions, has asked me to play cello on a new song with him called Winding Sheet for their gig right before Jack Brag's performance at Ace of Clubs on the 11th of Sept. (The Maledictions is at 8pm, JB is at 9pm). I'm excited to be working with him since he's extremely talented and I've outlined a rough draft of what I'll be playing to accompany him. It's a slow song and, with the melancholy juxtaposition of his voice & the cello, it will be nice and haunting. We're working on it tomorrow to get it ready for the performance.
