First, a big Thanks to everyone who made it to the Terminal Bar last Saturday for a stellar performance all around.

The Terminal of course did a great job, although they could not have forseen that with S.B.I. involved and the fact that our show was sponsored by Jagermeister, their supplies of that particular resource would be quickly depleted.

Thanks to Yusef, our good friend and guitarist for the massive band Nothing Gained. Thanks much for flying over from England just for this event, and kicking axe on some great guitar. Thanks also to S.B.I. for lending us their lead singer for a song. Borrowing members from other bands is kind of like letting someone borrow your wife or girlfriend (or both,) except everyone's watching which makes it even more awkward. But the show was, as they say, a smashing success.

Which is why we've been invited back to do it again!

Thursday 24 Sept 2009, Jagged Spiral takes the stage once more at The Terminal Bar in Minneapolis, MN. No additional band members this time (unless someone can play the bassline to Horrorcloud...) just pure, undiluted 3-piece Jagged Spiral.

Noise starts up at 9PM and Jagged Spiral plays first. Check the terminal bar's website for other bands. I think there's a cover, but even if there isn't you really should slip your favorite band a fiver, or a Jag Bomb, or an I-Phone, or something.

I had a press release armed, locked, loaded and ready to spread fear into the hearts of music purists, music reviewers and real musicians all over the world. Josh, Colin and I were excited to announce what was sure to be the concert event of the summer at Target Center with Jagged Spiral and S.B.I.

'Tellin ya, it woulda brought tears to your ears.

On behalf of Jagged Spiral, Inc. I regret to inform you that due to circumstances beyond our control, the concert originally scheduled for Wed August 19th at Target Center has been canceled. All tickets purchased for the show will be refunded.

Our legal department is working nonstop to declassify our music as a threat to National Security. Until such time, Josh, Colin and I will continue writing/practicing/drinking/recording until our music can be more properly classified as a threat to the security of the entire planet.

Then, we'll be able to play anywhere and anytime we want. Or else.

Rough Demo of Horrorcloud Posted to Myspace

Hey all, been a bit. We been busy, see. You don't rush greatness. You don't rush us neither. We played a couple shows recently... funny, we don't remember seeing *you* there. Maybe you forgot to go? Maybe we were drunk and forgot you went?

Anyway, *if* you actually did go to any of our shows, then you would recognize the song Horrorcloud. (Here's a hint: It's the song without the word "Horrorcloud" in it)

We hacked out a rough version of Horrorcloud tonight and fluffed it up with enough compression that we could easily enter it in the loudness war with Metallica. We couldn't win mind you, but we'd be in there somewhere. Probably on the back lines ordering supplies, making waffles and complaining about all the noise.

Review of the Station 4 Concert

Riverbottom Suckerfish played first, and they were amazing in more ways than one. Their drummer Nicole is positively insane, and the sound guy told me she reminded him of "Animal" from the Muppets. Their lead singer Christine is a great player and singer with killer taste in guitar tone. No wonder they don't need a bass player!

Jagged Spiral played second. It was a good-but-not-great set. I'll take the blame for our less-than-stellar performance. Or I could chalk it up to the round of Jagermeister shots SBI bought for us. Sabotage!

Deathroned had to cancel, so we got to relax a bit between songs and not setup/teardown so quickly.

S.B.I. played last and kicked ass with their best show I've seen so far. I tried to sabotage their show by buying them a round of Jagermeister shots, but it just made them better! Not fair. I'm glad they went last. I am jealous of Tony's bass rig, especially the wireless. I notice Mark now has a wireless mic. They were really tight. Sounds like they've been practicing... curse them!

[Editor's Warning: Danger, rant ahead, filled with bad words]

Speaking of curses,The St Paul Police Department were also there, and did a stellar job of placing a parking ticket on my car. The ticket was for parking after 2:00 AM. It was placed at 2:10 AM with all the precision craftsmanship one would expect from St. Paul's Finest. It couldn't have been easy to place the ticket on my car between my trips back and forth from loading gear out, but I have a feeling this must have been a Special Ninja Parking Ticket Officer, trained in the arts of stealth and speed.

Hey, St Paul Traffic Ninja? How about you leave musicians alone, huh? Who else would be at the load-in to Station-4 at 2AM? Bars close at 2AM right? So you start handing out tickets before bands can finish loading out their fucking gear? Do you think we make a ton of money playing on a Thursday night? Jagged Spiral made $11.50 (split that three ways) and spent a lot more than that on drinks and food, and then I get a $25 PARKING TICKET because I can't load my gear out in ten minutes? Thanks much, [place your own derogatory noun/adjective here].

Don't worry, I'll make sure to get my $25 worth next time I'm in St Paul.

Financial matters aside, we had a fabulous time with Riverbottom Suckerfish and S.B.I. lots of fun people and good times. Station-4 is such an awesome venue, a great sound system, I just wish they had a parking lot.

Best Local Rock Band

...you probably think it's Jagged Spiral, but the City Pages doesn't. They think it's a band called Knife World.

Readers Choice was Vampire Hands. I love Vampire Hands myself, they put on a good live show with lots of energy.

However, neither of these bands really strike me as "Rock". Neither does Jagged Spiral for that matter. Maybe its just me, but they sound too 'indie' and not enough 'rock'. Seems there are better selections for best Rock band.

Check out The Bullets. Or Tonnage. Or Caultron Girl. Or Six-Six-Crush. Any one of these bands would Rock the piss out of Knife World AND Vampire Hands AND Jagged Spiral, and they'd do it with two guitar strings tied behind their back.

Gay Witch Abortion would probably get my vote for best local Rock band. Two absolute madmen with savage tone, who don't really need bass or vocals to rock the planet. Catch one of their live shows if you get a chance, before their music is banned for being "Too Rock".

It's a full day at Station 4 on the 4th of June 2009! It all kicks off at 5PM with an all ages show featuring 'Drop Dead, Georgeous', 'He Is Legend', and 'And Then There Were None'

After 10PM the show kicks into high gear with S.B.I., Riverbottom Suckerfish, Deathroned, and of course Jagged Spiral!

Independent Filmmakers rejoice! Because the only thing more fun than filming a short movie about your favorite subject (Zombies!) would be scoring it with music from your favorite band (Jagged Spiral!)

Battle of the Bands, or How to Scare the Children

Firstly, thanks to everyone who bought tickets and came out to support Jagged Spiral last Sunday in the 2009 Battle of the Bands. We had a great time, and hope you did too.

I just found out the winner of the battle ended up being The Company Don't trust the songs on their myspace, they put a lot of Energy and Fun into their set.

I got to speak to them at the battle of the bands (as they were tearing down and we were setting up) .

"Thanks alot," I said wryly, "you guys coulda sucked!"

But Xtna put it into perspective for me. I said, "How can we compete with that? Those guys were great!"

She looked at me sternly and said, "Your job is not to beat them, your job right now is to go up there and Scare the Children."

So we did. I'd say we decimated all other bands that night on several levels. The Richter Scale would be one of them. A spiritual scale would be another one. I guarantee you some of the fans of The Company are still huddled under the stairs, shivering with fear. And Jagged Spiral drank more than the other bands and their fans combined. (...mostly because they weren't old enough to drink.)

But we couldn't beat them in ticket sales. Ah well, like Sun Tzu says; choose your battles.

Thanks to Mark, Tony and Justin from SBI for showing up and supporting the Spiral, and thanks to Kim, Nancy, James, Teresa, Dan, Boog, Fast Eddie, The Fox, Jess, Jenn, Xtna and anyone else who made it or bought a ticket for the show (Saveau reported that he was present at the show in spirit, and from the symptoms he described, no one would have wanted him physically present...)

Jagged Spiral Concert - Sunday March 1 at the Dinkytowner

Some of you may remember the 2008 Battle of the Bands that Jagged Spiral participated in? Well, because of our outstanding turnout and stellar performance last year, we've been asked to participate again this year. So here's your chance to see us live, along with seven other local bands competing for a chance to play the final battle at the Varsity Theatre with a $1000 grand prize!

Sunday March 1 at the Dinkytowner Cafe, the show starts at 4PM, and continues till around 9-ish. The exact start time is to be determined by pre-show ticket sales. The band that sells the most tickets gets to pick their time slot first, and thereafter in descending order of tickets sold. We're hoping to get an early-to middling time slot, (in the 5-7PM range) but we won't know for sure until the doors open. The more of you who purchase tickets in advance the better our chances of getting a good time slot!

Ticket sales are counted at 3PM, so please make sure to purchase your tickets in advance, from Josh, Colin or myself, or e-mail booking@jaggedspiral.com

Jagged Spiral is pulled from bill, but still rocks the house!

Thanks to the blazing-fast response time of the Jagged Spiral Internet E-mail Gig Retraction Service, disaster was averted for many loyal Jagged Spiral fans, when it was announced that their Nov 29th performance at the Terminal Bar was canceled.

Not so much canceled as...well, let's be honest: we got fucking canceled. My understanding is that because of the (former) booking agent at the Terminal Bar, the show was double-booked (technically octuple-booked), and many bands had to be dropped. SBI and Pygar performed as scheduled, but Jagged Spiral and Gedwik were pulled off the bill to make room for a cover band.

No, I'm serious. Stop laughing.

No hard feelings towards SBI or the Terminal Bar, but we do hope that their former booking agent has a 140lb Ampeg 8x10 Bass Cabinet fall on her.

Meanwhile, the number of sound mixers for the show was strangely underbooked. In fact, there were none. Random members of the crowd were pulled out and forced to work the sound board at gunpoint. Josh bravely volunteered himself and myself to mix sound for SBI. (Colin did not make the show, choosing to stay at home instead and get laid.)

So while Jagged Spiral did not actually *play* at the Terminal Bar, we certainly did make the walls shake when Josh managed to turn SBI's kick drum up to 111.

Props go to my good friend James, who made it to the show because he didn't get the notice that the show was canceled. His diligence and dedication to the Spiral has awarded James the dubious honor of being at more Jagged Spiral shows than Colin.

We're trying to get SBI and/or the Terminal Bar to feel sorry enough for us that they offer up a sympathy gig, and we'll keep you posted on how that works out.

Apparently, one of our products and services are "Heavy Metals"! Isn't that nice!

As much as I'd love to thank the brainless meatstick who put this together, its no doubt the work of a scraper site, pulled together by a computer simply to waste space on the internet.

Thankfully, a Google Search for Jagged Spiral still turns up the truth.

Meanwhile a quick search on the owner of Hot Frog turns up a piece of trash called Reed Business Information, providers of Variety Magazine, Asia Food Journal and many other periodicals that kill trees, weigh down your mail-carrier, and clog up your mailbox and recycle bin.

"Not Enough Bullets" Chosen by MN Spin!

The website http://www.mnartists.org/ has a contest called MNSpin, where each week, three winning songs are picked by members of the local music industry.

I set up a profile on mnartists.org a while ago, and uploaded the tracks "Monsters", "Not Enough Bullets" and "Let It Out". I entered the tracks in the MNSpin contest sometime early in 2008.

Seems that Dana Raidt, the music director for Radio K has great taste in music, because she chose "Not Enough Bullets" as one of the three winning songs for this week's MNSpin contest!

Here's more info about the contest:

Winning tracks from each contest are selected by panelists from within the music industry. Each week a three-song playlist from the winning submissions will be featured on the mnartists.org and Summit Brewery web sites. Quarterly listening parties at area venues will take place and a compilation CD of music from the yearlong contest will be produced.

Submission Specifications and Entry Process Any and all types of music accepted; only three tracks per musician will be reviewed for possible inclusion on the CD. Tracks can be uploaded to artist pages on mnartists.org, and a URL of the page can then be e-mailed to mnspin@mnartists.org. Submissions must come from mnartists.org members.

Review From Evil

Thanks to all those who made it out to the "Days From Evil" CD Release Party last Friday. It really means a lot to us to see our Friends and Fans brave the strange weather. Jess informed me that the puce-colored sky was conjured up by the Dark Lord herself, and those of you coming to the show would be spared, and would not perish in a burst of purple lightning.

The party was great fun, and those who missed it...missed it. For the first time ever we had a merch table with real merch on it! (Thanks Xtna!) The hard copy of Days From Evil was there in all its long-awaited, hard-earned, shrink-wrapped glory. (Thanks Tim!) Band buttons too! (Thanks Karrie!)

Fortunately, Jagged Spiral was there too, somehow managing to mix loud music with theatre; both comic and tragic. Colin's brand-new guitar made it's first public appearance. Josh got into a fight with his own drum set, and I poured a half a pitcher of beer over myself and jumped into the boy's moshpit with my bass. (Yes, there was a girl's moshpit too.) Like I said, if you missed it, you missed it.

Josh, Colin and myself would like to publicly thank all the people who made the CD Release party a big success:

Days From Evil - CD Release Party

The CDs have been placed on order, and three years of hard work are about to pay off. We are excited to announce that Jagged Spiral's debut masterwork, "Days From Evil" will be available in CD form on 11 July 2008!

"Days From Evil" is a concept album which tells the story of a hero confronting monsters only he can see. The music covers a wide range of genres, including Gothic Hard Rock, Acoustic Ballads, and Majestic Epic Metal. Much of the music on "Days From Evil" was also used by Jagged Spiral in the movie score for the local vampire movie "Pray For Daylight" from Stone Soup Films.

Ha, and my guidance councilor said I'd never accomplish anything! Now he owes me five bucks! Not surprisingly, that's the same price as admission to the upcoming Days From Evil CD Release Party! For the price of 1.25 gallons of gas, (which won't even get you halfway up to the lake for the 4th of July,) you can experience an entire evening of devastating music, as Jagged Spiral takes the stage at Club Underground on Friday, July 11th, to celebrate the release of our new CD.

Our live show will contain some stripped-down selections from "Days From Evil", (Sorry, no acoustic guitars and no string orchestras!) and plenty of new material, all of it dark metallic rock fueled by adrenaline and Jag-Bombs. Bring earplugs.

'Days From Evil' Press Release has been...Released.

I really can't feel any sense of completion or accomplishment with Days From Evil until 1) I hold the physical, shrinkwrapped CD in my hand, and 2) we celebrate the CD with an Release Party. Thankfully, those things are coming to fruition. Very soon, the order will be placed for CD copies of 'Days From Evil'. Almost three years of effort are drawing to their long-overdue conclusion.

Promotional copies of the disk are finished, (sans the insert booklet). Just seeing the physical CD with printing on it has made me quite happy. Now, I'm just working on the insert artwork, which should be done this weekend, and the order can be placed next week.

As I mentioned previously, the "Days From Evil" CD Release party has been booked at Club Underground for 11 July 2008. Three other bands will be there to help us celebrate: S.B.I., Sick Machine, and Something To Fear. Jagged Spiral has gone through a significant upgrade in gear since our last live set, and we're focusing on pulling together a nice, tight, and loud show. Bring earplugs.

Even if we don't move a single copy of the CD, even if the critics slaughter it, even if no one comes to the release party, we will finally have payback for three years of hard work.

Jagged Spiral Product Endorsement #1 - Jag-Bomb

Jagged Spiral doesn't generally do product endorsements, but sometimes something comes along that surprises us with its simplicity and moxie. Things like that warrant public approval, especially when all three of us are in agreement.

At the Apocalyptica concert last April, we each downed at least two shots of something called a Jag-bomb. (Pronounced Yag-Bom) At least, I only remember having two.

For those not in college, a Jag-Bomb is a combination of Jagermeister and Red Bull.

I know what half of you are about to say. "Are you Insane? Mixing something that makes people Fight with something that gives people Energy?" The other half were going to say, "Are you Insane? Mixing something that tastes like Cough Syrup with something that tastes like Radioactive Camel Urine?"

Agreed on both counts, however, there is some strange co-mingling of effects and flavors with the two ingredients, and the end result is less undesirable than you would expect.

The drink is an interesting dichotomy of emotional directions, much like Jagged Spiral's music. Therefore, we are announcing that the Official Drink of Jagged Spiral is the Jag-Bomb. If you ever come see us live, [Editors Note: Like at the July 11th CD Release party for example...] try one out, it will definitely put a unique spin on your perception of our live sound...

Jagged Spiral Rides Again - Club Underground 11 July 2008

Minneapolis 'Northern Rock' band Jagged Spiral celebrate the release of their debut album, "Days From Evil" (Miku Darkly Productions).

The "Days From Evil" CD Release Party will be held at Club Underground on Friday, July 11th, 2008. Joining them will be local bands S.B.I., Sick Machine, and Something to Fear.

Music starts at 9PM, the show is 21+, cover is $5.
