I may have stumbled upon something new. New at least as far as I am concerned and that is pretty good. It does solve many issues that have been bothering me. I do have a number of sites which I painstakingly made years ago and I have been unable to update them regularly.

The lack of motivation for doing so stems from the fact that I do not have something visibly important to show for it like, making some money. I am not doing this for my health and it is something that does take up a lot of my time. So, I have heard of social bookmarking and there are many tools for doing this but these tools do cost money.

Jai was in Cagayan

In August, Jai went to Cagayan de Oro City just in time to celebrate his grandfather's anniversary of passing. He was there last December along with his brother when they attended their grandmother's birthday.

The Night Cafe has become a regular feature of Cagayan de Oro and people have gotten used to the idea that traffic is going to be hell around divisoria on Fridays and Saturdays. A new feature of Cagayan de Oro City is the ubiquitous billboarfs of Rufus Rodriguez and the repair of Apolinar Velez St. The repairs are almost done and soon they will be taking down the billboards. I think that Rufus will be a permanent fixture as the city's representative which is not a bad thing at all.

Mind Control

It has been a few days since I began my experiment and I am gratified to find out that I have been productive and many of the old things that were familiar refrains in my daily life have taken a leave of absence from the looks of it. I was able to do a lot of research and the many things that used to derail my peace of mind by agitating it and putting it in a state of constant conflict has abated somewhat. I can only say that I have won or am winning the first round. This is hardly the end of the fight and I have to be vigilant so that I don't go back to the hole, the dark pit which I call my life. Right now I have nothing to call by way of livelihood. I aim to change that and this is the very yardstick by which I measure my success in changing my life.

Doing a little Magma Programming

Yesterday I finally moved on a project that needed to be moved along. There are a number of things that needed to be addressed. I felt that there would be a problem of losing data due to something which I could not place my finger on. So I did something and then I stopped. The solution I made came from something I did before in the past and I could not shake the nagging feeling that something was wrong. Something was really wrong and the error was not very obvious. I was saving chunks of things instead of saving pieces that changed. This was the error that was part of my preceived solution. There was no solution, just a catastrophe waiting to happen.

I felt good when I finally worked out the principle or the logic of the thing. I had no done any coding yet and so I could not really test if my idea was going to work after all. Still, it felt right and I did not have to do anything yet for the moment. I will verify it later.

A very nice thought and a very nice topic is Making Money Online. If one is able to do this then one would not have to dress up to go the office. One could justs sit in front of the computer in short pants. There is a way to make money but it would take a bit of an effort to accomplish this. When I made Ching's World, I had it in mind that people would make money and somehow make their online efforts worth while. What I had done is embed a mechanism where this would be discovered by being triggered by something. Cagayan de Oro was to be launching pad for these efforts. Why Cagayan de Oro you say? Well I say, why not? The plan is very simple, I need to promote the website so that it will percolate to the top of the search engine pages.

Patterns of Behavior

Could we see patterns in our lives? Do children have traits and characteristics that are similar to their parents? Would these children go through what their parents have gone through? Could these be called patterns of behavior? What do they mean when they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree? What mechanism is there that enforces this? Is this genetic? Is there free will? Or, is it just an idealistic dream which does not really hold true in real life?

Is it easy?

Is anything easy at all? There must be a way to move and be aware of movement that is in step with the rotation of the universe. The Milky Way Galaxy makes one rotation every 20 million years. Where do we stand in the scheme of things? We, who think that we are alone adrift in the Cosmos, insignificant in the magnificence of it all. Is it easy to say that we matter more than the entire mass of the universe?

We want the universe to stop when we hurt. We want all to stop when we are sad. What are we all about? Do we sink into the depths of absorption of external pursuits to the detriment of learning to love or perhaps just feel a teeny weeny tiny bit of longing for that which is greater than all combined? What does it all mean?

Does anything matter at all? A site, adrift in Cyber Space. Does another website matter? Does a pretty picture make sense in the carnage that happens in many parts of the world?

Music, Art and Sports

Artistry, musical ability and athletic gifts find their home in his person and he was ambi-dextrous as a child. Someone commented how Jai drew a straight line with one hand and continued it with the other hand, without pause, break, hesitation or wavering. Before he could even talk he would say the title of the song, "We are the World" from hearing just the first note. So sharp was his hearing and his recollection of how the song starts that I found it absolutely uncanny. Also as a young child of maybe 2 or 3 he would point out locations and directions while riding on a motorela around Cagayan de Oro City. He could dance before he could walk. I am not kidding. Using the window sill for support and standing on our bed, he would dance while I sang, "Careful, careful. Dapat tayo laging careful".

He was in Grade IV when I first saw him play basketball. Guarding a much bigger player, he completely intimidated his charge that the bigger boy could not do anything to help his team mates. In Grade V his mom enrolled him in a Judo class. Rapidly advancing, he gained an advanced belt even though he was too young to be awarded such distinction. I had the pleasure of watching him one time when I fetched him from Judo practice. The instructors were absent and in their place Jai was asked to conduct the class being the one with the highest belt and this included exercises and sparring. He commanded respect without even trying and it amused me no end to see how older boys and girls who were of high school age obeyed the commands being given by a Grade V pupil.

He inexplicably dropped Judo and no one could dissuade him from this decision. His instructor pleaded with me to get him back to practice. "If you had only seen your son as he flipped my son who is 175 lbs, like a piece of paper" said Ed, his instructor pleading with me to exert my influence to keep Jai in the Judo program. When I asked about his decision he merely said he wanted to do something else and that was the end of that. What he had his eyes on was to play electric bass.

Jai in Silliman University, Dumaguete City

Transferring from Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City, Jai continued his course in Psychology in Silliman University in Dumaguete City. Silliman University has an excellent course in Music which caused Jai to consider shifting to a Bachelors course in Music but, he had always wanted to emulate his uncles who were successful practitoners of Medicine back home in Cagayan de Oro City. Dumaguete City is well-know for Music and the Arts and boasts of many musicians .who are well-known in the Philippine music scene.

While he is considered a gifted basketball player, Jai has pursued a different avocation when he moved to Dumaguete City. Music has become a principal obsession with him and although he is greatly influenced by the music of Incubus, his taste in music varies widely from Santana, to David Spinoza, Steve Vai and other artists of established reputation.

With other friends, Jai organized a band to compete in the Battle of the Bands which is an annual contest where winners from various cities vied for honors in regional contests the winners of which would compete in the National Battle of the Bands in Manila. Jai and his band handily won the Dumaguete leg of the Contest and they competed with bands in Cebu City. While he used to play bass when he had his band in Cagayan de Oro City, Jai did the lead vocals at this time.

On the day that he was born

I lost my deathwish on the day that he was born. All of a sudden, bravery and courage became strange words to me. I lost all desire for conflict and confrontation. Where before I chased after death and never cared for my own safety, I suddenly valued my life and did not want to put it at risk. I wanted to be alive to see him grow up. I began to be afraid and worried about little things. One big fear was of losing him in a big crowd and never to see him again. I shuddered at the thought of him living where I could not see him. Do all fathes feel this way when their sons are born? Am I being overly-melodramatic or just being silly?

Not having anyone to care for also made me careless about my own life. All of that disappeared when he opened his eyes to the world to begin a new life that was a riddle which I could never solve. How it would turn out is something that I will never be privy to and it made me insecure and helpless. I worried about this happening or that happening. Nothing could make me lose the feeling of utter helpnessness. Finally, I came upon a decision that made sense to me. I offered him to God. I overcame my sense of worry and panic and being overly protective when I offered him to God. I remembered that everyone is in God's hands and that nothing is ever accidental or unplanned. That thought laid my fears to rest.

Today, a large conflict erupted and I don't see how it could ever be solved. My heart feels heavy and I feel powerless in the face of this. Suddenly, I feel very tired and helpless. I feel old and useless.
