Changeable Frame

Before I tell you about my little creation I made right here, I wanted to tell you about my exciting news!!!!!!!!! I was featured on I Heart Naptime's TOP 20! My feature was the "Baby Shower Wreath that really isn't a wreath. Check it out here. Now onto the frame....

Funny story...I went to bring my friend some food since she just had a baby. I noticed her awesome picture frame she had with nothing but wire, pictures, and clothespins in the middle. I fell in LOVE with it! I asked her where she got it....She said, "Potterybarn, I think, but you could make it." "You're right I said!" So here is my rendition ....

it's different than the Potterybarn one in that I just used chicken wire (thanks to some research I realized I wasn't the only one out there with this idea...so Alison at Oopsey Daisy gave me the idea to use chicken wire...Thank you, Alison!) instead of strings of wire, which is what the fancy Pottery Barn one used. I would have needed to do some drilling and that wouldn't have worked out so well. I'm really happy with the way it turned out!

Materials:

Frame- I found mine at Walmart

Chicken Wire-Ace's ( I literally brought the frame in with me and measured to make sure I had the right size of chicken wire)

Wire cutters

Clothespins

Rope-mine is from Stampin Up

Celebrations Cricut Cartridge -Blackout Pennants cut at 2"

Staple gun and Staples

1. Cut chicken wire to the correct size of frame. I just layed my frame on top of the chicken wire and cut.

2. Staple the chicken wire to the frame using a staple gun....be careful because if you notice on the frame in the lower right corner the staple almost went through...YIKES! It's ok....I still like the frame and in real life you can't even tell, for some reason my camera decided to showcase the mistake! ha! oh well!

3. I painted some clothespins. I tried to find mini clothespins and couldn't find any so I just used regular sized clothespins and painted them white.

4. Make banner. I used the cricut cartridge celebrations, blackout setting and cut it at 2". If you don't have a cricut. You could use a Silhouette I'm sure or they might even have pennant punches out there. You could always just cut out triangles too! Stamp pennants.

5. I wove the rope through the pennants and tied into the chicken wire.

6. Put pictures up.

I received this award from Heather at The Hunny Pot. Heather is an AWE-INSPIRING designer, so to get an award from her is like winning an Oscar! (Are you guys watching the Academy Awards, btw's?) I just wanted to share some "Blogland" info that I've acquired over the past little while.

1. Google Friend Connect will no longer be available to dot coms and will be phased out pretty soon for blogger as well. What? I know, right?! So, I joined Linky Followers, which is on my sidebar. If you would like to add it to your blog as well, go here.

2. Picnik is Adios, so where to now? I used Fotoflexer here and there while using Picnik (before their resignation), but Fotoflexer has stepped it up recently! I think they are taking advantage of this new Picnik change! Good for them, which also means GOOD FOR US! They now have like a bazillion fonts! SUPER EXCITED!

3. You may have noticed my tab "Community". Click on it check it out...it's powered by Blog Frog! The idea is to help turn your blog into a Community (by the way, anyone watch the show "Community"? I love it) so you can ask me questions or we can talk about a certain subject...etc....so go check it out. You can become a member of my community too if you want to...Ooooh I know ....I know....so exciting! ha! No but really, you should check it out and see what you think!

Ok, Phew! I just had to get all of that "techy" stuff out of my system! Hope everyone is having a great day! Here's a little Photo Fun for you....I can't have a blog post without a picture! It just wouldn't be right!

Cute little Gift

And.........I'm back! My little sweetheart had surgery today, so all I could think about the past couple of days was that. It was like my brain was mush. He's fine, he had a congenital chlosteatoma. A "Chlostea-what?" I know that is what I said. Basically, a cyst on his ear drum that he was born with.

Anywhooo....let's get our CRAFT ON! I wanted to share this little ruffled towel I made for my great aunt in- law. She's always making us goodies in the kitchen, so I thought she might like this little ruffled towel for her birthday.

The fun part about this towel I think is the container I made for it. Can you guess what it is? It's a Pringles container! I just wrapped patterned paper around it and then added a bow. So simple but it made quite an impact, I think. I didn't get a picture of the lid, but it was super fun! Since the lids are see through I made a cute little "Happy Birthday" sign. I'll make another can for you guys and then you can see the lid. How about that?!

Ok....so the ruffled towel I just sewed straight down the middle with the straight stitch. I made it a long stitch. Then I pulled it at an end. After I "ruffled" it, I just sewed it on the towel. I know there is probably a more technical way of doing this type of thing...which if you know how let me know.....but this is how I did it. I'm not a really great sewer, but people will always ask me how I can sew and my best piece of advice is....Don't be afraid of your sewing machine...just go for it. Remember it doesn't have to be perfect! I think that was the hardest lesson for me to learn. I wanted to worry about every stitch! Don't ...like Nike says, "Just Do It"...I guess in this instance it's "Just Sew It"! ha!

The Baby Shower wreath that really isn't a wreath

Remember when I told you we were having a baby shower for some friends? If not, you can catch up here. I promised I would show you the "wreath" my mom made. It's not really a wreath. More or less a door decoration. We're going to put it on the front door instead of a circular wreath. So without further adieu....

What do you think? We weren't sure if it was baby shower-ish.

We thought we might add in a toy or something.

I'm not sure if we will or not, but this is it so far!

I'll keep you updated as to the end result!

I do think it is super fun though. It's not your run of the mill door

decoration and I think my mom did a great job!

I just made some more super cute decorations that I will be posting

later. Get excited!

Happy Friday...and BABY SHOWER preview

Yay! It's Friday! What is everyone doing this weekend? I think Friday is my favorite day of the week because when it's Friday, everyone seems to be happy! What is your favorite day? Plus, you have Saturday and Sunday to look forward to! Anyways, enough of that....

I just wanted to share a little piece of info with you......we're having a baby shower! No, not for ourselves, but for some wonderful friends! So here are the invitations that went out today...

Our friends are obviously having a girl. They don't have a theme but more or less are sticking with the colors, pink and gray. They are doing a modern themed nursey, too. Our friend is an awesome decorator, so I'm super excited to see it when it's done. Our friend loves polka dots, so when I found these invitations I knew these were it! These invitations are from Tiny Prints you can find them here.

I will be posting more decorations later...... my mom made the door decoration already and it is too cute for words! Get excited! You can view more decorations my mom has done in the past here.

Patches of Pink here I come

Bananas for you and heart toast

I hope everyone had a 'Love'ly Valentine's Day yesterday! What did you do? We had a party at my parents and my husband was so cute! He gave me Dove Dark chocolates (my fav), gorgeous bouquet of flowers, and a beautiful card! It made me cry (awh)! So fun! Anyways, I just wanted to share a little treat my kids and I passed out yesterday to friends at my husband's office, teachers, and some of our other friends around town.

We're 'Banana's for you!

I saw this idea in a magazine (Better Homes and Gardens or Family Circle, can't remember) and just had to do it for Valentine's Day! Everyone always gets so much candy on Vday that I felt like it would be refreshing to get a banana or maybe it is really lame, I don't know, but I thought it was fun!

All I did was make labels on my computer that said "We're 'Banana's for you!"

Then I just stuck them on the bananas.

Simple as that!

Another thing I wanted to share was my son's Valentine's Day Toast.

I just love this little toast! I think it is so fun! I was thinking that I could make ducks for Easter, balloons or other shapes for birthdays. I'm so excited about this new idea!

Anyways, all I did was make a piece of toast and cut it out with a cookie cutter!

Simple as that!

When I think about my favorite love song, immediately Tim McGraw's "Best Friend" song pops into my head! That song depicts my husband perfectly. The first time I heard that song I was on a plane to Miami, FL. I had just put random new songs I had never heard on my IPOD...the original IPOD...still black and white..old school...gotta love it....anyways, the moment I heard this song I started to cry because every word he was singing was how I felt about my husband! It's a wonderful song and I still cry every time I hear it! It's just the best song! Sorry to get sappy with you there for second...ha!

Valentine Popcorn

Okay so I feel like Kristyn over at Lil Luna has been reading my mind! I was going to make Valentine Popcorn and she did too! The popcorn she made looks super yummy, but it is different than mine. The popcorn I made is a chocolate covered popcorn with heart sprinkles! I made this popcorn at Halloween and everyone loved it, so I decided to make it again except this time add a little Valentine fun in, using heart shaped sprinkles! Here it is:

Just pop your popcorn according to package instructions.

Lay it out on a sheet of wax paper

Melt chocolate according to package instructions

Drizzle on popcorn

Add Sprinkles

Let it rest and harden!

Enjoy!

I added a Love Potion to go along with my popcorn! Of course, Lil Luna has a printable for the Love Potion. You can get it here. I put the yummy Valentine Popcorn in a paperbag...but wait...not just any old paperbag...

......I printed onto my paper bag! I learned this from thirtyhandmadedays.com....You just put your bag into the printer as if it were a piece of paper, and the printer just prints right onto it! I just love it! Yes, of course, I got the printable from Lil Luna, you can get it here....it was like she was my personal secretary making all these printables for me or something! ha! Great minds think alike I guess!

I "Mustache" You a question....

I got my inspiration for this valentine from Lil Luna. She used wax mustaches, I couldn't find wax mustaches anywhere, and then I remembered I got a new cricut cartridge called Billionaire and it had mustaches on it. I cut the mustaches at 1.5. If you don't have a cricut, you could find a pattern online and trace them and cut them out. Here they are

Aren't these hysterical?! My son LOVES them!

Here's the topper I made to go over the sandwich baggies I used to place the sucker mustaches in.

I used Picnik.com to place the mustache on my son in the picture.....so funny! I couldn't resist! I figured I might as well get good use out of Picnik.com before they're gone.....sad face....crying sad face! What am I going to do without Picnik.com?! Anyways, I hope you got a laugh from these silly valentines! I had a blast making them!

Vintage Valentines

I just wanted to share some cute vintage valentines that I found on The Splendidly Imperfect Miss M
They are so super cute that I decided to make a garland or banner as they say now-a-days:) ha!

All I did was print the valentines, laminate them, put eyelets on the side of each valentine, and run a ribbon through them. I can't get enough of these cute little sayings! "Tell me 'weather I still rain' in your heart my vanlentine" So funny! Anyways, I hope you're having a wonderful day!

You are Sweet Treats

Since my Mops girls (a mom's group I'm in) are so sweet, I decided to make them a treat and I gave it to them at our meeting last week. Here they are

I put them in little bags with a treat topper from Love from the Oven

I didn't get a good photo of the bags put together, but if you go to Love from the Oven she has some awesome ideas and photos of bags put together! So go to her sight and in-vision what my treats would look like in the bags. I used the bags "A Valentine Treat For Someone Sweet"! Then tell me what you think...ha!

Anyways, if you want to make some...........

You'll Need:

Heart mold (I actually used a heart ice cube tray)

White chocolate (I use Ghiradelli from Sam's Club....yum, yum)

Sprinkles (do you call them sprinkles or Jimi's or a different name?)

Plastic Sandwich Baggies

Stapler

Treat Topper Printable from Love From the Oven

1. Put Sprinkles in the bottom of your mold

2. Melt chocolate according to package directions

3. Poor into molds

4. Stick in Refrigerator to harden

5. Pop out of molds

6. Put the chocolates into plastic sandwich baggies

7. Cut out Printable and Fold

8. Put over Sandwich bag and staple

9. Give them to friends and family!

Birthday Cake Topper and Cake plate

My husband's birthday was last Friday (you can see a fun little treat I made for him here) and I made a cake for him. Not just any old cake, a specific cake. I wanted to make a fancy cake using my cricut cake machine (you can see a fancy cake I made here), but NOOOO he wanted a yellow cake with rainbow chip frosting. I guess he kept seeing the box in our pantry and on the side panel there was a cake with rainbow chip frosting and he just really wanted one. ha! Anyways, so I made him one. I really wanted to make a banner across the top of the cake. It wasn't working the way I wanted, so I scrapped that idea and made this cake topper:

It's very silly, but I thought it was fun!
I wish I was able to show you a picture with the candles in the cake.
They really finished the look off, but unfortunately I didn't get one.
Oh well, you can in-vision it, right?

I also wanted the cake to sit on a fun cake plate, so I went ahead and made one!

Cake Topper:

2 silly straws, twine, circle punch, computer, and printer

I tried to make a printable for you to download, but it didn't work...sorry. But I can tell you how I made this.
I made a printable using my word document. All I did was take a text box and fill it with lime green color. Then I added Happy Birthday in white! I printed it out, cut out the square, and then took my XL Fiskars punch and punched out the Happy Birthday. I punched two holes on each side. I took two silly straws stuck them in the cake. I put the Happy Birthday circle in the air in the middle of the straws where I thought I wanted it, and I then so very technically measured the twine. I just taped the twine to the back of the straws. That's it!

Cake Plate:
1 plastic plate
1 glass
Spray Paint
E6000 Glue

1.I got my plate from Target for like 50 cents or something ridiculous after Christmas.
2. The glass I got from the dollar store.
3. I spray painted the outside of the glass. Let it dry and then spray paint again if needed
4. I flipped the glass over and put E6000 Glue (which can be found at craft strores) on the back and then stuck the plate on top
5. Let dry
6. Enjoy!

Yummy Pasta

This pasta is called 'yummy pasta' because I made it up and my family thinks it's yummy! So that's what we call it! I used red bell peppers in it and I think it looks kind of festive for Valentines Day, so that's why I wanted to share it with you. I must apologize right now because I didn't use exact measurements. I make recipes up all the time and just go with what tastes good. I know it's hard to follow a recipe the first time you make it and it says, "A little bit of______ and a touch of _____" . So basically all I can say is for you to taste it and go with it!

Want to make some Yummy-ness?

Box of wheat pasta...you're favorite kind...I used half penne and half rigatoni

1 red bell pepper..cut into strips

Some grated cheese...whatever you have on hand or your favorite...I used "Kraft Mexican Blend"

1 small Onion

Garlic Olive Oil

Salt

1. Boil salted water and cook pasta according to the brand directions

2. Put Garlic olive oil in a pan on medium heat

3. Add diced onions

4. Add red bell pepper

5. Cook veggies to your liking..I added a little salt to them

6. Put a bowl underneath your strainer to catch some pasta water

7. Add veggies to drained pasta

8. Add 2 cups of grated cheese

9. Use about a half a cup of pasta water

10. Mix together

11. The cheese should be melted and covering pasta. There shouldn't be any pasta water lingering. It should be mixed in. It is better to use a little and add in more if you need it. The pasta water acts as like a helping agent to the cheese to make it a sauce. I also added some salt here too...add to your liking..you may also want to add pepper.

12. Enjoy!

On a side note...I added peas since we had some leftover the next day and it was delicious! I would consider adding peas!

***Side note #2...I am not a trained chef or ever taken cooking classes...this is just what I do to make the yummy pasta...(I'm sure after reading my recipe, you already figured that out! ha!) I hope you enjoy it though**********

Happy Birthday to my Husband

I'm such a lucky girl to have such a wonderful husband. He's caring, thoughtful, a great dad, and boy does he love his video games:) I blog and do crafts, while he plays his video games...it works out very well! Anyway, I wanted to share a little treat I made for him to have when he wakes up in the morning. I like to put little things around the house to make him feel special on his birthday. In college, my roommate put sticky notes around saying nice things about me on my birthday and I thought that was so cool. So, that is a tradition in our house now. I will put the sticky notes around the upstairs with nice messages, and then downstairs in the kitchen I'm going to put this little treat container:

Dynamite Treats! I put M&M's in the middle of each roll.

To make a Dynamite Treat Container

toilet paper tubes or paper towel tubes, plastic baggies, paper, twine, pipe cleaner, candy, label

1.get plastic baggies and fill with candy

2. wrap tubes with paper

3. put candy bags in tubes

4.wrap tubes in twine

5. Stick pipe cleaner in the middle of the tubes

6. get a label and write a message. I used Cricut's Imagine More Cards at 2.0 in.

7. Enjoy!

Alright, so I originally saw this idea on Pinterest, I believe, and I wish I knew which website to give credit to. Basically all you do is take foam stickers (I got mine at the dollar store) and caps. The website I saw used milk caps...which we did, but I ended up using Gerber Baby food lids. They were the perfect size for the foam stickers I bought. The other caps I ended up using were Snapple lids! I L.O.V.E. those facts on the inside of their lids. Have you ever gotten Snapple and read those facts? Fabulous idea by the Snapple company! So, the great thing about this project is not only can we stamp, but we can read the facts while we stamp! YAY!

All we did was peel the back off and stick them on! Super fun and simple! The other great thing about this project is that since there are a million and one stickers in the bag, so when we're done stamping we just rip the sticker off, throw it away, use a baby wipe to clean off the ink from the lid, and stick another sticker on! New stamp, Voila!

Valentine Topiary

Have you ever started on a project with one thing in mind and ended up with something totally different when you were done? Well this little topiary of mine started out as a decorative ball. I was going to make a bunch of them and put them in a vase, but then the idea of a topiary came to mind. So here it is:

I used the cricut cartridge "Straight from the nest" to create the flowers. If you don't have that cricut cartridge, you could use a flower punch.

To create this topiary:

Styrofoam ball, wooden rod, cotton, tulle, flower pot, white pearl headed pins, flower pot foam

1. Paint your styrofoam ball the same color you plan to make your flowers

2. Punch out all the flowers or use Cricut Cartridge Straight from the Nest flower at 1.0 in.

3. Use pins and poke holes in the flowers

4. Once the paint is dry put flowers and pins in the styrofoam ball

5.Paint rod and flower pot to desired color.

6. Cut rod to height preference

7. Stick rod into styrofoam ball, make sure to hot glue rod and then stick it in

8. Place rod into potting foam (sorry I know it's not the technical term, but the floral foam you use for fake flowers..it's green...) and place it into pot.

9. Place cotton on top of flower foam....I actually used polyfil because that is what I had on hand.

10. Cover with tulle. I hot glued the tulle around the pot.

11. Enjoy!

Aha Moment

I'm going to take a break today (be back tomorrow) from sharing my crafts with you. I'm going to be very vulnerable and share an "aha" moment I had the day after Christmas (Yes, I said "Christmas" it's taken me this long to share this post with you because I wasn't sure if I wanted to or not). This "Aha" moment was free and also, I figured I might as well share it because I might be able to help someone else out.

Here it goes....so my playroom was an ABSOLUTE disaster the day after Christmas! I could not handle it and I knew something needed to be done, but I wasn't sure what. Here it is....don't be too frightened

Crazy, I know! Toys everywhere....we needed to get rid of some toys and my daughter's toys needed a home.

Another problem was, that we have been accumulating millions of books. So, we had baskets of books everywhere around the house...driving me CRAZY!

So my "aha" moment was when I went out to our sun porch and saw a bookshelf that I tried to use for Art storage for my son's art supplies. It wasn't being used to its fullest potential. I also saw a pink shelving unit for my daughter's toys. When I placed it there over the summer, I didn't think there was enough space in the toy room plus she wasn't into toys yet really so I didn't see a problem with it on the sun porch.

YAY! Here it is now

I got rid of a bunch of toys and put them in a box in the basement. I will recycle the toys. So when they get bored with certain ones, I will take those and put them in the basement. I will pull out their old toys. I do this often and they seem instantly like brand new again. It's great if you haven't tried it, you totally should!

Here is the bookshelf being utilized to its fullest potential!

Here is the pink shelving unit in its place. I took out the tiny book rack that was there so I could make room for this shelving unit.

Now our playroom is just a playroom. It's nothing fancy. But it works for us and our kids love it! One of these days we're going to re-do our basement, but that is "one of these days..." until then we're enjoying our playroom!

A day late and a dollar short

Today I went to enter my "Rosette" project into The Paper Variety's Challenge. I soon realized I was a day late and a dollar short...isn't that how the phrase goes? Anyways, I still wanted to share with you my project because I think it is fun and you could potentially use it as a Valentine decoration if you wanted.

All I did was take a Jones Soda ....if you can't tell I'm obsessed with Jones Soda a bit...here's another project I made..now I don't drink pop all the time but if I'm going to I want a Jones!..Anyways, you could take any bottle..I actually wrapped that bottle with macrame yarn (if that is what it's called, forgive me for not knowing the technical term) You may wonder what I'm doing with a huge ream of Macrame yarn...well, my in-laws were helping my grandma in-law clean out her garage and they said "You're crafty. I bet you could find some way to use this HUGE ream of yarn!" So I did! You could use regular yarn if you don't have a HUGE ream of macrame yarn lying around! ha! I just hot glued it at the bottom and wound it around and hot glued along as I went.

Once I was all done my project looked like this:

I didn't like the looks of it and thought it needed a little bling! So, I added a rosette. The tutorial I followed was Creations with Christina's. Here's a close up:

Here it is altogether! Happy little flower in it's happy little vase!
