Jailbreak iOS 8.3 On Mac OS X With TaiG, Here’s How

Much to the delight of users around the world, TaiG took everyone by surprise by releasing the first ever iOS 8.3 jailbreak for the masses. The new tool – TaiG v2 – is available to download immediately for those on Windows only. Mac users have been asked to wait for a while for OS X compatible version of TaiG.

But what if you want to jailbreak iOS 8.3 on your Mac right now? Fortunately there’s a way provided if you spare few minutes and be patient. In this guide we’ll show you how to jailbreak using TaiG v2 for Windows on your Mac.

Compatible devices/firmware: All iOS devices capable of running iOS 8.3, 8.2 or 8.1.3.

Step 1: Download the latest Windows 10 Insider Preview and install it as a Virtual Machine on your Mac using Parallels Desktop 10. Why Windows 10? Because at the moment, Windows 10 is still in testing stages, and hence provided absolutely free to anyone who wants to test. Since Parallels 10 has a 14 days trial, the combo of Parallels 10 trial version + Windows 10 Insider Preview is more than good enough to jailbreak your device without paying a dime. Here’s how you can go about the whole thing:

Download and install the free trial of Parallels Desktop 10 for your Mac from here with full support for Windows 10 Insider Preview.
Once you launch Parallels Desktop 10 and start creating a new Virtual Machine, you’ll see an option for ‘Windows 10 Insider Preview’ under the ‘Free Systems’ section. Click on it and it will walk you through the process of downloading and installing it on your Mac in a virtual environment.

Step 2: Once Windows 10 Insider Preview is done installing on your Mac inside a VM in Parallels 10, launch the VM, and then install iTunes on your virtual machine as well. If you are using TaiG 2.1.2 to jailbreak, which you should, older version 12.0.1 of iTunes is no longer required. You can use the latest version of iTunes.

Step 3: Once iTunes is done installing, simply download TaiG jailbreak tool for iOS 8.3 from here and run it on the virtual machine.

Now that the Chinese TaiG jailbreak team has released a Windows compatible tool capable of providing an untethered jailbreak for all devices running iOS 8.1.3, iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3, it’s time to get down and dirty with the process. Users have been waiting ever so patiently for this tool to be released, more so considering the supported versions of iOS within this tool have previously been publicly unjailbreakable. Still, it’s clear that where there’s a will there is always a way, and thanks to TaiG all Windows users have a way of getting that beautifully liberated device back on the latest firmware.

Important notes before you begin:

The jailbreak is untethered and currently available for Windows only.
Make a full backup of your data with either iTunes or to iCloud before going ahead with jailbreak.

How to jailbreak:

Step 1: Grab the latest TaiG Jailbreak version from here: Download TaiG 2.1.2 For iOS 8.3 Jailbreak With Support For Cydia Substrate.

Step 2: On the iOS device in question make sure that Find My iPhone and Passcode/Touch ID are turned OFF. To achieve this, head to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Enter your current Passcode and then select Turn Passcode Off. This will prompt for the current Passcode once more to verify. Similarly, to turn Find My iPhone off head to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone and select the relevant option to turn that particular location tracking service off.

Step 3: Connect the iOS device running iOS 8.1.3 – 8.3 to a Windows computer. Open the downloaded TaiG Jailbreak tool.

Step 4: If the Apple device can’t be discovered by the jailbreak tool, it will present a window that clearly shows “Can’t find Apple device“. However, if everything is detected correctly a different window will be presented showing the details pertaining to the device and the DEBs that will be installed.

Step 5: We recommend keeping the Cydia option checked but unchecking the 3K Assistant option. Click Start to proceed with the jailbreak procedure.

Step 6: The user-interface will then keep you updated on the progress of the jailbreak with percentage indicators and labels of what has been successful. This could take some time so be patient. Finally, when the jailbreak process is finished the UI will be updated with a “Jailbreak succeeded!” message.

Step 7: Now once the device has automatically rebooted, you should have Cydia installed on your home screen.

iOS 8.1.1 is now officially jailbroken, and it’s one of the easiest jailbreaks that I’ve experienced in my long history of jailbreaking. As we first noted, the TaiG team, not the Pangu team, is responsible for the iOS 8.1.1 jailbreak, which was released for Windows users early this morning.
Note that TaiG can be used to jailbreak iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 8, iOS 8.0.2, iOS 8.1, and iOS 8.1. In this guide, we use TaiG to jailbreak an iPhone, but the process is the same regardless of the device.

Pre-requisites:

Turn off any lock screen passcode or Touch ID. You can do this by navigating to: Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > turn off Simple Passcode.

Turn off Find My iPhone by navigating to: Settings > iCloud > Find my iPhone.

Restore to iOS 8.1.1 via iTunes. OTA updates usually don’t work well with jailbreaks. You can download iOS 8.1.1 from here.

How to jailbreak iOS 8.1.1 using TaiG on Windows

Step 1: Download TaiG from here.

Step 2: Ensure that iTunes is installed and plug your device into your computer and make sure that iTunes recognizes it

Step 3: Restore your iPhone to iOS 8.1.1 (this tool can also jailbreak iOS 8.0, iOS 8.0.2, iOS 8.1)

Step 4: Make sure that Find My iPhone is turned off in Settings → iCloud

Step 5: Make sure that your passcode is disabled in Settings → Touch ID & Passcode

Step 6: Enable AirPlane mode via Control Center

Step 7: Right click on the TaiGJBreak_1006.exe tool and select Run as Administrator, followed by Yes

Step 8: Make sure the TaiG tool recognizes your iOS device, uncheck the second box but keep Cydia checked, and then click the green jailbreak button

Step 9: Let the jailbreak progress until the tool states that the jailbreak is complete (you’ll see a smiley face)

Step 10: Once your iPhone reboots, you should see the Cydia app on your Home screen

Having surprised us with the impromptu jailbreak for iOS 7.1.x, the Chinese team has come through with another solution for the all-new iOS 8.x. As mentioned in our initial coverage, dubbed as Pangu8, it works with iOS 8.0 all the way through to the latest iOS 8.1, and below, we’ll be showing you how to jailbreak your device using the tool.

The updated Pangu now includes Cydia as well. The following guide will help you jailbreak your iOS device on iOS 8.x and install Cydia on it.

Before you jailbreak, it is important to note:

Before jailbreaking, you must turn off any lock screen passcode or Touch ID (Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > turn off Simple Passcode) as well as Find My iPhone (Settings > iCloud > Find my iPhone), and naturally, your device will need to have spare storage space in order to run Pangu in the first place. Passcode and Touch ID can be turned on after the jailbreak and Cydia installation is complete.
Turn on Airplane mode. Airplane mode can be turned off once jailbreak is complete.
You must have an iTunes restored version of iOS 8 / 8.1 installed on your device for the jailbreak to work. If you updated from iOS 7.x to 8.x via OTA then the jailbreak won’t work. You can download iOS 8.1 from here, and restore using iTunes.
Make sure you backup your device completely before proceeding either through iTunes or using iCloud (Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup and turn on iCloud Backup). At this stage, there’s a reasonable chance that something may go wrong, and while many of you will undoubtedly be prepared to take this chance, you don’t want to lose your data for good.
You must have iTunes 12.0.1 or later installed on your PC before you can even begin. But that’s not it; it should also be running in the background when the jailbreak process is taking place.

How To Jailbreak iOS 8 / 8.1 Untethered Using Pangu

Step 1: Download Pangu for Windows or for Mac OS.

Step 2: Right-click on the Pangu icon and then click on Run as Administrator.

Step 3: With Pangu up and running, connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your PC using USB.

Step 4: Click on the big ‘Start Jailbreak’ button in the center of the display, followed by ‘Already did’ on the next screen to begin the jailbreak process. Your device will reboot couple of times during the process so be patient.

Step 5: Once the Pangu tool says ‘Jailbreak succeeded’, that’s it. It’s done, you will find Pangu app along with Cydia app icon on the home screen. Simply run Cydia and start installing your favorite tweaks!

Already jailbroken using older Pangu 1.0.1 without Cydia bundled?

If you used an earlier version of Pangu that didn’t include Cydia as part of jailbreak process, you don’t need to re-jailbreak it. To install Cydia, simply run the Pangu app from your home screen.

Tap on ‘Install Cydia’.

Now tap on ‘Install’ found in top right corner of the screen to begin installing Cydia.

After reboot/respring, you will have latest Cydia on your iOS device.

Step 2: Launch the tool with your iOS device connected to your PC, and uncheck the box as highlighted in the screenshot below, otherwise it will install a Chinese piracy app store.

Now click on the black “????” button to begin the jailbreak process, after which you’ll be prompted to change the date and time on your iOS device.

Step 3: On your iOS device, navigate to Settings > General > Data and Time, and turn off Set Automatically. Set the date on the device to ‘02 June 2014’. Set the time to 20:30 (that’s 08:30pm for those who aren’t using the 24-hour clock on their iOS device).

Make sure there is no lock screen passcode or Touch ID set on your iOS device. You can disable Passcode lock from: Settings –> General –> Touch ID & Passcode –> Turn Passcode Off
Backup your data to either iCloud or your PC via iTunes before jailbreaking.

How-to jailbreak iOS 7 / 7.0.4 (instructions):

Step 1: Download iOS 7 – 7.0.4 Jailbreak Evasi0n 7 for Windows or Mac.

Step 2: Connect your iOS device to your computer and start Evasi0n 7.

Step 3: Now click on “Jailbreak” button to start the process.

Evasi0n will now perform the jailbreak in a series of automated steps. Just sit back and don’t do anything silly. Allow it to complete the process. It may take a few minutes to complete.

Step 4: Once done, Evasi0n will inform you that you need to unlock your device and tap the new ‘evasi0n 7’ app icon found on the home screen of your device to continue. Tap the app icon and keep your device connected, it will automatically restart.

Step 5: Once the reboot is complete, Evasi0n will continue to apply final touches before asking you to unlock your device again. Once you unlock it, it will reboot again, followed by ‘Done!’ screen.

Step 6: Cydia should now be on your iOS device home screen. Quit the Evasi0n 7 application, disconnect your device from your computer and start Cydia!

Apple’s new iOS 7 mobile operating system seems to have gone down well so far with users, and after a couple of minor updates amending a couple of early teething issues and security holes, the Cupertino has today delivered yet another update. Shortly after bringing iOS 7 to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, Apple followed it up with security update labeled as iOS 7.0.2 to amend certain early issues that had arisen. At this stage, iOS 7 is still far from the finished article, and as such, it’s no surprise that new problems are being discovered on a frequent basis.

Apple’s iOS 7 first dropped on September 18th, a couple of days before the iPhone 5s and 5c made their long-awaited released to market. So, with P0sixspwn now available to download – Mac only currently, Windows version will be available soon – we thought we’d put together a little guide on how those with the right hardware, and running the right software can get their jailbreak on. Turns out, it’s actually ridiculously easy.

How-to Jailbreak iOS 6.1.3, 6.1.4, 6.1.5:

Step 1: Download P0sixspwn for your Mac. You can also download it from p0sixspwn.com. There’s a Windows version on the way, and we don’t expect these instructions to change all that much when it does get released.

Step 2: Extract the download. If you run into “P0sixspwn can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer” on OS X, simply right click on the app icon, and click on Open. Click on Open again when you get the p0sixspwn is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it? prompt, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 3: Next, plug your iOS device into your Mac and turn off the passcode lock on the device from: Settings –> General –> Passcode Lock –> Off. You can turn it back on after you’re all done.

Step 4: Hit that ‘Jailbreak’ button and follow the onscreen instructions.

Step 5: Your iOS device may be required to restart a couple of times during the process. Don’t go playing with anything at this point, the magic is happening!

Step 6: After a reboot or two – all automatically done – and you’re set. Your iOS device is now jailbroken.

It really doesn’t get much easier than that, does it?

Sn0wbreeze or Evasi0n tool?

So why use Sn0wbreeze over Evasi0n tool? Well if you sport a older iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS which relies on carrier unlock + hacktivation, Sn0wbreeze is the way to go. Using Sn0wbreeze, you can cook a custom firmware for your device without the upgraded baseband so that you can unlock it with Ultrasn0w.

Supported Devices:

It’s been mentioned many times in the past, but is definitely worth re-iterating that Sn0wbreeze won’t ever be able to inject jailbreaks of any nature onto newer Apple devices until a low-level DFU exploit is found and can be used. It is for that reason that Sn0wbreeze 2.9.10 will only support pre-A5 devices such as the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and the fourth-generation iPod touch.

How-to Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 using Sn0wbreeze:

Step 1: The first step in the process is to get your hands on the latest version of Sn0wbreeze, currently standing at 2.9.10.

Step 2: Make sure that the iOS device to be jailbroken is connected to the Windows PC via the 30-pin connection cable and the device is running a supported firmware. The latest version of Sn0wbreeze supports an untethered jailbreak on 5.2 firmware for Apple TV, and iOS 6.0 – 6.1.2 for iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4, and uses the same Evasi0n exploits released by team Evad3rs.

Step 3: Locate the download of Sn0wbreeze from step 1, unarchive the download and run the executable file found within.

Step 4: Hit the blue next button on the bottom-right of the display and select the Browse for an IPSW and point Sn0wbreeze to the relevant firmware for your device. Since iOS 6.1.2 is supported, we advise you jailbreak on that particular firmware. You can download iOS 6.1.2 from this link.

Step 5: If Sn0wbreeze successfully identifies the provided IPSW file then select Next and click on the Simple Mode option that is provided.

Step 6: Sn0wbreeze works by stitching together a custom created firmware file that can then be restored to the device, be patient, this might take a while.

You’ll see this message on the display once the custom firmware is ready:

Step 7: Sn0wbreeze will now ask you to put your device in Pwned DFU Mode, follow the on-screen instructions on how to do so.

Step 8: Once done, Sn0wbreeze will provide an alert to say that the device is now in Pwned DFU Mode. Close Sn0wbreeze, open iTunes and select the connected device from the left hand menu.

Step 9: Press and hold the left SHIFT key on the keyboard before clicking on Restore in the iTunes interface. When iTunes asks for a firmware file to be selected, point it to the custom created IPSW from Sn0wbreeze that will be found on the desktop of the computer.

Step 10: Allow iTunes to go through restore process. When complete, the phone will be fully jailbroken with the beautiful Cydia icon present on the home screen.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 Untethered On iPhone 5, 4S, iPod touch And All Other Devices Using Evasi0n [Tutorial]

Apple quickly released the iOS 6.1.2 update today to address a few lingering bugs in the OS, but luckily, the jailbreak wasn’t patched. However, the Evad3rs team worked around the clock to update the Evasi0n desktop tools and we are now glad to say that iOS 6.1.2 can be jailbroken fully untethered using the latest version of Evasi0n, which is v1.4.

Step by step instructions are as follows.

How-to Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2:

Step 1: Update your device to iOS 6.1.2 using iTunes (download iOS 6.1.2 from here): if you are jailbreaking your device, why not update it to the latest version of iOS? OTA updates might mess with the jailbreak, therefore a fresh restore via iTunes is strongly recommended.

Step 2: Turn off Passcode Lock in case you have it enabled. In order to do this, simply head on over to Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Off.

Step 3: Download Evasi0n 1.4, which adds the support for 6.1.2 [for Windows, Mac or Linux]

Step 4: Start up Evasi0n on your computer and simply click on the “Jailbreak” option. Kick back or grab a cup of coffee as Evasi0n does its work and jailbreaks your device. Remember not to touch anything while your device is being jailbroken.

Step 5: Once this is done, your device should boot straight back. You will see a new Jailbreak icon on your home screen. Tap on it in order to finish the process.

Step 6: Your device will now reboot quite a few times for a short while, before it boots into the jailbroken state. Once this is finally done, your device should boot back in a jailbroken state.

You are done: if everything has gone as expected, Evasi0n should indicate that the jailbreak is complete. Cydia should now also be on your home screen.
