A top referee has been arrested for alleged murder, police said yesterday.

Thanom Borikut, a contender to officiate at the 2010 World Cup, was arrested in Saraburi yesterday for allegedly killing his boss Thammanoon Prathumman with a bomb.

A man was captured on CCTV planting a bomb which later exploded and killed Thammanoon, a director at Saraburi's education department.

Police said Thanom, an official at the department, confessed to planting the bomb on Thursday.
Thanom said he had conflict with Thammanoon who he claimed did not give him fair treatment and often barred him from officiating overseas as a Fifa referee, according to police.

Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi said it would be a pity if Thanom was found guilty because he was a candidate to officiate at next year's World Cup.

Pelita Jaya have announced the signing of Yuthajak Konjan. The former national team player will be among familiar faces as he was part of the 2003 Thai SEA Games squad that also featured Kosin Hatairatkul (Persib) and Phaitoon Thiabma (Persijap).

In the 2009 Thai Premier League the midfielder played for PEA and was a part of their AFC Cup run.

Yuthajak joins a congested midfield at Fandi Ahmad's Pelita Jaya where he will be fighting for a starting place alongside the likes of Firman Utina and Egi Melgiansyah. The side nicknamed the Young Guns have started the current campaign poorly, losing two and drawing one of their first three games

Songsak Chaisamak, young (DOB 10/07/1983) defender (stopper) of Thailand is arriving at Kolkata for trial tonight.

He was part of the Thai Port FC team which won the Thai FA Cup recently organized by Football Association of Thailand, to become the Champion Team of Thailand. He was also part of the Fifa U-17 World Cup (final rounds) held at Napier in 1999.

Traditionally, Thai players have always been successful in the past for Mohun Bagan.

If selected, he will be registered for the ONGC I-league under Asian Player Quota.

Singapore announces advanced ticket sales for crucial Asian Cup Qualifier against Thailand

SINGAPORE, 6th November 2009: Match Tickets for the crucial AFC Asian Cup Qualifier between Singapore and Thailand on 14 November will go on advanced sale from Sunday, 8 November during the RHB Singapore Cup final at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Ticket sales will start from 5.30pm onwards during the Singapore Cup final.

Tickets will also be sold at Chua Chu Kang Stadium and the Geylang United club house from Tuesday, 10th November to Thursday, 12th November. Tickets sales will be from 10am to 7pm.

For safety and security reasons, as required by the competition regulations, FAS has designated exclusive seating areas for the Thai fans (gallery ticket holders will be seated at Sectors 5, 6 & 7 while grandstand ticket holders will be seated at Sector 9(a)).

Forget the bloody formations

OK so Indonesia managed to score a goal against Singapore in their recently friendly but there remains an uncomfortable truth lurking beneath the surface that needs to be addressed.

Defending set pieces is shoddy.

Three goals conceded against Singapore but you can be sure Raddy knew what he was working on in training. When the two sides met in last year's AFF Cup Singapore won 2-0 courtesy of a free header from Baihakki and a direct free kick from Shi Jiayi.

The Indonesians later slipped up again when the Thais beat them 1-0 in Jakarta when Teerasil had himself a free header after the ball was whipped in from wide.

You just know what Kuwait will be working on ahead of their two Asian Cup qualifiers later this month.

I'm fed up of hearing that Indonesians are technically the most gifted players in the region. Lob a ball in to the penalty box and just see how Charis Yulianto, Maman Abdurahman and Nova Arianto flap around helplessly then let's talk technique.

The local media, as is their wont when they wish to sound knowledgeable, gush about the different systems operated by Benny Dollo in the Singapore friendly including a 3-6-1 but they're missing the frigging point.

It can be 4-4-2, 3-5-2 or 8-1-1 for all I fucking care, it ain't numbers or formations that welly the ball out of the bloody danger area. It's players.

And it's high time the Indonesians learnt that sometimes Row Z is the best tactic of all. Assuming they get to the ball first that is...

The weekend ahead

Without doubt the highlight this weekend is the climax of the season in Malaysia with Kelantan taking on Negeri Sembilan in the Malaysia Cup final at Bukit Jalil. Earlier in the season some 40,000 fans from the north east descended on the nation's capital to see their heroes take on Selangor in the FA Cup Final only to go home broken hearted. Will it be second time lucky for the club so starved of honours over the years?

And speaking of barren years (hello Tottenham fans, how ya doin?) Geylang United will enjoy a brief moment in the spotlight when they take on Bangkok Glass in the Singapore Cup Final on Sunday. And perhaps all football fans in Singapore will unite behind the Eagles as they seek to prevent a second pot from going overseas in one season.

But in what can only be seen as a cheap, shoddy piece of self promotion the English Premier League has scheduled Chelsea v Manchester United for the same night. But Singaporeans are way too smart for them. I'm sure they will turn out in their thousands to support Geylang's bid to recapture lost glory and firmly give the English game the middle finger.

In Vietnam their Under 23s take on China in the second game of the VFF Cup while in Cambodia the national Under 23s lock horns with the Lao Under 23s as well as two Vietnamese club sides Hoang Ann Gia Lai and Ninh Binh Vissai.

The ISL sputters along with a couple of fixtures. On Saturday Persebaya travel to Pekanbaru to take on PSPS who are on a high after defeating PSM in Fortress Makassar last time out. The travelling Persebaya side will hope to include their new Japanese signing Uchido for the game. PSPS have yet to score at home, previously two 0-0s, while Danurwindo's men, with Andi Odang in fine form, have yet to play away.

On Sunday Persitara take on Persema in Jakarta in what will be their first home game of the season.

Also in Indonesia the AFC Cup Under 19s qualifying round gets under way with three games being played at the Jalak Harupat Stadium in Soreang. Indonesia play Singapore first, followed by Japan v Chinese Taipei and ending with Australia v Hong Kong.

Persijap feel the pinch

They maybe top of the Indonesia Super League but Persijap Jepara are feeling the pinch where it hurts the most. In the wallet. Revealing figures (Source - Top Skor) show how attendances are shockingly down and how the club are losing money by being shown on TV so often.

Admittedly, the opposition in their early games hasn't been the most attractive and with Arema and Persebaya due to visit in December hopes are high that cash will soon start flowing. But then both those games are being shown live!

There is more the club could and should be doing of course. They receive just 550,000 USD in sponsorships/subsidies and most of their advertising hoardings are empty. Instead of just whinging that clubs get a raw deal out of the current TV deal they should also be out there in the market place selling themselves more.

Siriwjaya's money problems

Sriwijaya have still not been able to pay their players and figure they will be unable to do so until they bank the gate reciepts from their home game against Pelita Jaya on 21 November. The Vice President Finance of the club says he understands the players' concerns but calls on them to be 'professional'. (Source - Top Skor)

The same report goes on to list the squad and their salaries. New signing from Woodlands Wellington, Precious Emmuejeraye, is one of three players earing approximately 110,000 USD a year, the others being Zah Rahan and Keith Kayamba Gumbs.

The highest paid local players, earing about 80,000 USD a year, are Ferry Rotinsulu, Charis Yulianto, Isnan Ali, Ponaryo Astaman and Arief Suryono while 3rd choice keeper Andi Irwan collects 600 USD a month.

Kelantan declare holiday ahead of Final appearance

KOTA BARU: Kelantan have declared Sunday as a state holiday to mark the team’s appearance in the Malaysia Cup final against Negri Sembilan at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob declard Sunday a state holiday “to celebrate Kelantan’s historic appearance in the final of the Malaysia Cup after 39 years”.

“It is an incentive for the people of Kelantan to go and support the team in Bukit Jalil. As for the players and officials, the state government will bear the cost of their umrah package and also provide cash incentives for making it to the final,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Kelantan made it to the final after beating Perlis 5-1 on aggregate.

The last time Kelantan qualified for the Malaysia Cup final was in 1970, when they lost 0-2 to Perak.
“We hope that by declaring Sunday a holiday, fans will not rush home but take their time to drive slowly and carefully home,” he said.

KELANTAN skipper Indra Putra Mahyuddin walked away with a grand double in the 100PLUS-FAM National Football Awards – winning the Best Striker and Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, yesterday.

And the national striker is now hoping to strike it rich this Saturday by winning the prestigious Malaysia Cup for Kelantan in the final against Negri Sembilan at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

“This is a big surprise… not one but two awards. I never expected this. But it will not only spur me on against Negri but also the team. The two awards could not have come at a better time for me and Kelantan.

“It’s inspiring and has got us motivated,” said Indra, who could not receive the awards personally as the Kelantan team will only arrive in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Perak-born Indra took over the skipper’s armband from Mohd Badri Radzi after the midfielder was ruled out for the rest of the season after breaking a leg in a league match against Penang.

Indra is hot and his 14 goals in the Super League and 10 in the Malaysia Cup so far, speak of his capabilities as a vital cog in the Kelantan team.

For the Best Striker award, Indra beat Khyril Muhymeen Zamri (Kedah), Eddy Helmi Abdul Manan (Johor FC), Mohd Safee Sali (Selangor), Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak (Negri), Mohd Nizaruddin Yusof (Perlis), Faderin Abdul Kadir (Kuala Muda Naza) and Zamri Hassan (Proton FC).

Kelantan coach B. Sathianathan said: “Indra deserves the two awards for all the hard work he has put in this season. Hopefully, the awards will motivate him and the rest of the team for the final.”

Indra is optimistic of a positive result against Negri although the Red Warriors were beaten in three of the four outings so far. Negri beat Kelantan 2-0 and 1-0 in the league and 1-0 in the first-leg FA Cup semifinal.

However, the East coast side turned the tables on Negri in the return leg FA Cup semifinal with a 2-1 win which gave Kelantan a place in the final against Selangor, riding on the away goals.

Persib Bandung played a friendly against their Under 21 side yesterday afternoon and it afforded their new Thai internationals a run out before they return home on national team duty.

Persiba missed the chance to go to the top of the ISL after they could only draw against Bontang who have already played seven games this season and have yet to win.

Daniel Roekito's men have played three away games this season so far and have picked up two points on their travels. This draw sees them climb to 3rd while Bontang sit 14th, ahead of Pelita Jaya, Sriwijaya, Persib and Persitara who have only played two or three games.
