It was 15 clips or actually 16 with a mixture of all natural, lamp and overhead lighting. I say 16 because one was taken out two alternative closing frames.
It was an interesting week. To say the least. And while I always claim to be one or two a head this video was taken very close to the present time and is my most current video.
Many people have said they like my food and cooking videos, but really, do you want to see? Ok I thought well lets just show everyone a typical day.
While on the one hand this video is easy because like a walk through or walk around your not really adding any sort of production value, on the other hand it's hard because the video has to be taken all day and you have to remember to document each time you eat or spend in that day.
So your like just about to eat and then you say "wait I forgot to vlog" ect.
The other part that is hard about this video is that it shows my raw reality. Very open and honest with people about what you do and how you live is hard, humbling, honest.
You know in the modern social media internet era you want to Instagram or vlog your best moments make yourself look good. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good, I do think how people photo shop their pictures to basically draw themselves to be a bit much but trying to look good is a thing I believe in. However, in this type of video it doesn't make me look good. Hopefully people can see the beauty in the honesty.
Really even up until tonight I thought maybe this one is too much. Maybe I don't want to share this. Maybe just move on. But I had the video uploaded and ready and thought, you know what those who like me and support me will appreciate the real me.
You know too, if this whole thing ever does really turn around for me and I'm able to be successful there's a certain beauty to that comeback down and out kid making it. For the moment this is me.

Well, back to the fresh raw stuff. On the heels of me confirming in my last blog that "here it's music" get over it phrasing. Of course I was referring to here as in that weeks video.
Jake's Showcase my channel is a plethora of odd ins and outs of never making much sense but all making so much sense where we mix it up and keeping them wanting more.
For the record I think last spring I had 5-6 songs in a row before breaking the pattern and this year it's only 3....for now. Truth is that I had played the music out of me...for now.
You see I truly go with inspiration. What moves me. Not what sells, not what people want, not what makes sense, not what is politically correct but what moves me.
And my spirit is moved many ways by many things. Here when I saw this river flow in the rain storm as I walked home I was really moved and said I've got to do that. I wasn't expecting the river to be so flooded and the viewer got my raw real reactions and I think that made it a sort of fun real life journey exploration with the fans and me together.
When I hear a song or jingle in my head and get the lyrics or the inspiration to write then before you know it a song comes out but I haven't had much coming to me that way lately.
The magic is in the instant and uncoordinated and unplanned inspiration. That's why I love the camera and as I've heard, the camera loves me too.
It was a real fun one here and I got nature, fresh exploration, sort of one of a kind footage and there was no one or only 2 people out so not to many takers on braving the elements on this day and that in itself made it special.
So what will it be on Jake's Showcase, we'll that's why you tune in because you're curious....and often....as the clock ticks down for me....I am too....about what the next video will be.
However a reminder I always work 1 week ahead....key for a perfectionist....at least 1 ahead.
Of note, I removed related channels on my channel on a whim just moments ago. While this precludes my channel from being recommended on others channel and counter to my copy the best mentality where they all have this feature enabled, the channels that were being recommended as related where not related at all in fact it was promoting material I do not concur with.
That's ok, we can be a cute little specialty niche here, by word of mouth only. I kinda like it that way. Did you know that Bob Dylan follows 0 people on Twitter? Everyone follows some one twitter but not Bob....he don't care...we'll take a page out of Bob's book and go with no related channels.
You know the specialist of times awaits the artist who yearns for the completion of their work. This is in art life and in love. We know that and this is why we dream.

You see at some point like it or not my music is going to get recognized. Do you know I don't even have a microphone....all musicians have microphones....but I do not. Do you know I don't have an electric guitar...or drummer, bassist, lead guitar, rhythm guitar and possibly one or two other accompanying instruments. But I will.
I know that on Jake's Showcase I've hung my hat on diversity, variety, spontaneity, as my different style and format to my channel as being the difference which sets me apart in a unique niche....and counter to that there's been a string of music. Get over it, there's tones of videos on my channel of diversity for people to watch. Just go back 2-3 years hundreds of videos, lots to dive into here its music.
I understand the challenge of the true artist very well now, particularly the musicians. You see unlike other art forms you combine poetry, with instrument playing skill or mixing skill and then singing. You have a very raw take on multiple elements that you put out that give points to critique.
With comedy you can say "that's not funny" with acting "bad acting" with visual art "I don't like the picture". But with music you have multiple aspects you put yourself out there with.
I would say in addition in these raw early stages of my music it is additionally hard because of the previously mentioned lack of equipment and choices on how to produce.
If you look at all my videos the on the couch playing is done because this is the best vantage point for me to hold the lyrics on the table (no music stand either) face the camera and play to get best possible sound and lighting given these constraints.
But fear not, many many musicians can and do find ultimate success starting in basements, on couches with dim lighting and poor recording. Eventually when people study them they want to know how they started and they are taken aback and how they did it. Even you look at you reading with the obsessive eyes and yet I've done so little.
Yes my friends, this is an evolution in process.

So my 1000th blog post.
Well first off I've got to say that that seems like a lot of blog posts. With 45,051 views all time of just the blog that's like ummmm oh yeah 45 views per blog? Amazing mathematician eh?
So why the blog post. Really it is or was just supplemental to my video making pursuits on YouTube. I sort of wanted to chronicle my progress, lack of progress, successes and mistakes as I went along. Of course I also wanted to explore and explain how I was feeling and thoughts that were going through my head as time went by as well as an evolving YouTube artist, general artist and person.
I didn't think it would go on this long really. I figured my time on YouTube would be short lived now in 2 months it will be 5 years.
At first I was hoping for either a career on YouTube where I was an independent YouTube artist like many of the big YouTube stars or to be picked up by a tv show or movie and become an actor. Later when I obtained my guitar after about a year I thought a musician would be good too.
It didn't take long for me to see that the pay and viability of my YouTube artist idea was a no go. I did have a couple inquiries about me acting in a film and one for a TV episode but both were not legit in my opinion. The film was completely armature and while never discussed I was never offered money and the TV show was Tosh.O where once I realized who they were and what they did (make fun of people) I said I would do it for $10,000 usd far above the $1600 they made their final offer above the $800 initial offered. They declined and I was like no probs, not interested. The only reason I even considered the show with the higher amount was after seeing that Chris Rock and Kate Upton had also been on the early shows and they are totally legit. But they were on a long, long time ago, I think on the shows intro year.
My vision was more of being on a tv show regularly. Like a weekly sitcom or drama. Like a 2 Broke Girls, Seinfield, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Sex in the City, Married With Children or maybe have a talk show like Ellen, The Late Show or The Tonight Show.
While I know that some of these shows don't even exist anymore you get the idea, a real show where I'm an actor. I thought because I'm so under trained and behind in the normal chronology of an actor, acting school, stage plays, commercials, shows or movies that a producer may find me and think I have the attributes, look and energy they were looking for and hire me.
I found that this vision of mine was not to be either.
As far as music goes, while I enjoy it and find I'm pretty good and improving I've had no Columbia Records, or Time Warner Music or Shady Records or the like of legit labels rushing to sign me.
Point being, it hasn't been what I expected or hoped for.
And of course during all this time love is in the air.
While I've bobbed and weaved through this period of life real life things like relationships, lack of relationships, jobs, lack of jobs, frustrations and of course the weather shortcomings of this very difficult climate in Canada have been occurring. How does the artist balance all of this, real world, dreams and that middle zone.
I don't know why I thought all this was going to work out and why it's taken so long.
I can't say I failed, but I can't say I succeeded. I just went the way I thought was right and that was forward.

Ohhhh, how about some passion?
First some technicals.This was the fist video where the annotations feature is no longer available or present as this has gone away to my disappointment loosing a key common feature to all my videos and the way I would encourage liking and subscribing to my channel in each video. As a true nerd I had studied this was a key feature and had stuck to it but here is the first without.
Also interestingly this is my 999 post on the Jake's Showcase blog. One more it's a thousand. As such I may make an additional 1000th post later this week, likely weekend to mark the occasion.
Each video could be my last as I thought the last three were possibly, especially the last video, but it does dawn upon me that approximately 10 more weekly videos and Jake's Showcase will pass 5 years.
1000 posts 5 years big markers. But my energy is waning.
It may be the cold spring that's sapping my energy as the winter coats have come back out and the grey skies have reappeared in a shocking cold spell for May here. This drags me down personally after just enduring a wretched winter just dying to smile in the sun.
The blooming plants and trees and everything else that blooms has caved back in to hide yet again, yet for longer as the terrible weather here makes all pace in claustrophobic spaces. No doubt I suffer from Seasonal Affective Jakieness.
The bad depressing weather kills my creativity and my spirit. Making highly entertaining positive energy videos requires one at some level to be such. And when your not feeling it your not feeling it. If you look at my past few videos you'd see the dullness and sorrow of the long cold winter wearing on me. Still you have to produce, regardless, so in these times you try to burn out the weather clock by playing it out.
Which brings me to the song. What a song it is. This song, different then the others, reflects a very different style vibe and way. The words the beat the vibe all soooo interesting, intriguing, alluring and true.

Jake Johnston - "Don't Break My Heart, In The Middle Of The Park" Released

I say 6-18 takes because I did at least 6 full song variations but it was at least 18 start stop variations where I got frustrated in the song, missed a word or beat and stopped short. Musicians would understand this where you don't mind missing just a touch to add to the sort of real dynamism of a single framed video but when it's too much of a miss you don't want or need to play the whole song out to already know it's not the one.
I tried again 2 acapella variations here too but the addition of the guitar really adds to this song. The truth is with a finely produced music video any small blip can and would be eliminated because you can go note by note, verse by verse and blend the whole thing at the end for the best of this and the best of that until the entire song is perfect.
Look at music studios and the videos they produce they sing this part and that part again and again maybe the whole song straight is never even sung just here and there and blend. Music videos have the added bonus of being able to create not just the music but the visuals along with it. Columbia, Time Warner, Sony, Universal are able to make the song perfect and blend it in with the visuals that would be a nice accompaniment, lip sync it over and come out with a perfect product.
This is a bit more but not perfectly concert style. Like if your up on a stage and play this sort of single unedited frame would be the feel. Grant it all the 17 others that I didn't pick including if it was the acapella style mistake ridden versions would also come out. And if your on a stage you cant' just stop playing and say "this aint the one". So here you do have some control but not complete control of what your able to put out.
Annotations are going away after this week of little note to anyone who's not a YouTuber. I have been diligent to placing my "subscribe to my channel" in blue in the top right corner and my "click like" in the bottom left for the last 13 seconds of each video. A key piece to format stability and call to action I learned from the best of the best because I do not know how to use cards I will either abandon that or learn cards.
You know you always want to make your video as if your making your last ever video because you never know it may be. You want to be satisfied that if this is the last video I do then I am happy with it. With this video in particular I am satisfied with it. I feel like I pour it all out on the table here. The song was powerful, the heart was really there and it was well executed.
So this is how you want to live your art in whichever form it takes. Put it all out there hold back nothing, live the passion, in my case, love the camera and let the internet decide.
We the artists have this as our duty, to the world and to ourselves.

"The Most Interesting Art on My Walls" Released

While some may see this as a ho, hum video of mine it really is not. I had a choice of two videos this week and went with this one taken last Friday. Why is this not really all that ho hum?
Well first if you think about it this is actually some pretty nice works I think. Second if you think further these are the pictures I'm surrounded with on a day to day basis and am affected by.
While me myself am not a typical paint and canvas, sketcher, wood carver or photographer I do have appreciation for these more classic artists and like it when I'm able to look at nice pictures.
All have been given to me, sheer gifts over time. While I do think art is valuable, invaluable really, I am not one to buy art, truthfully I can't. But I'll gladly take pieces I enjoy that others may not want and put them up.
And of course you had to see it coming that my favorite piece is the sun at the end....how classic Jake. Hey you've gotta have a hook. Anyway they're all quite nice. Many may see the put together collage as being the weakest but if you look closer it's a series of really great pictures put together and who it's from is just as important.
So you get to see here a starving artist appreciate others art and I thought it was a good time to address the guitar on the toilet questing and wise I did it off the top....must have been confusing for some. Yep, it's for moisture. Don't want to warp it again, And this seems to keep it working good.
Interestingly with the guitar included I do include music as art on my walls because it is art too.....just not exactly what'd you'd expect.
So much is changing for me almost on a day to day basis sometimes intraday I don't even know where to begin to catch you up on that happenings in my life.
Just know it continues to be a mighty struggle. The artist fighting to find legitimacy and his place in the world. Where do you fit when you don't fit?
Darling, sugar spice and everything nice, we both know it's the artist mission to be true. True to the art, true to the passion. Cast off the doubters and naysayers and keep climbing through the jungles for we know it is Utopia that is ahead and that is what we move towards.
Let love be the guiding light to show us the way. Let the King and Queen take the throne of Utopia.

Well here I go back to the multi framed video. The first in several weeks. The remainder of the winter saw me move into a single cut and frame style for the past several weeks and while the raw value of the uncut single frame any true artist will appreciate it for it's purity....it does and can leave much to be desired from the entertainment standpoint. One must remember that the vast vast majority of youtube watchers are not looking for raw artistic purity of cut and take rather for entertainment.
This is one thing that YouTube does well or rather many good to great YouTubers. They have almost all mastered the multi cut platform to a video. Or at least learned how to cut out pauses and create "jump cuts" keeping the mind off balance and the eye entertained. With quick frame, cut, frame, cut you can cram more words in per square inch and you really confuse the eye as the video jumps and jumps again so that the brain cannot keep up in that unnatural state creating a person to watch longer then they normally would on this or that topic.
Yes the jump cut is the key for YouTubers.
But unfortunately for me I do not know how to jump cut and instead have to take one frame at a time and merge them together and create a jump cut like effect. This is a technical issue because I have dated camera and software which does not have such a feature.
None the less this video gives much to the audience. We do a nice top to bottom of a favorite topic of mine, professional dress.
While many may have found me during my rougher soup kitchen days there is a whole other side to me a dressy side....and oh how I love elegance. Here I try to give tips and techniques to looking good at the office and beyond to people who are interested both past present and future.
I'm a fan of the formal black dress as I talk and I come at it from a real ground level where many trying their best to look good but on a budget or below can relate.
Try to look good to the best of you ability and that's got to be a good way to approach the world.
Now could I look better in $3000 suit and $1000 in shoes and accessories? But of course. Money can be a beautiful thing. However, this video is much more relate-able to the masses who want to look snazzy on a 10th of that like myself.
It's coming.....good things are coming.....and spring is in the air, beauty.

In this song I attempted to play it several different ways and styles to try to match the song how it was suppose to sound in my head. In fact I gave a full efforts in trying it this way and that way. It came down to the 8th vs the 9th take as being the best and after listening again and again and again and grading each I chose this non pick version as encompassing the spirit, energy and emotion the best.
In this song you have to sort of walk with me, the way I do frequently through the parks and forests, look where I look and hum this song as you do. Feel the presence of my friends the way I do.
Of course it's the trees that I'm attracted to, I spend so much time with them they are my great friends and allies. The birds and animals too.
We hang out, in the sun, the rain, the snow, the wind....me and my tree top friends.
Art is a journey. It is a journey in space and distance, but it is also a journey into the soul and mind. The spirit of art is alive.
Whenever you do or present your art publicly the whole world changes...as that which is you and capable of being seen and judged. Artists are risk takers, as they have to find the art in them and bring it out and that is an emotional risk within themselves.
When I'm just hanging out with the big old trees, you see such a bigger picture. Love, life, way.
These are the best places to be in my opinion. Not simply for artists but for human beings in general, being in and around nature teaches, heals, calms.
Breath deep, look at what you see, watch, be there with them, all of them and watch things make more and more sense.

Well nothing really to this video really. I just thought you might want to see how I actually view and look to interact in the real world. With the last two videos on my stance on technology, sobriety and even moving one further back on reflection I thought I'd give a real world application of how I interact. Really get into my mind here.
What a better way then to simply recount a day. This particular day I saw multiple opportunities to help people as a wide variety of factors and situations presented themselves that I could. But this one particular day was unusual for it's variety of ways I try to help but it gives an idea of what I look for and try to do.
Really in any particular day events come up that I see that I could and for the most part try to help. They are ever changing therefore the most effective way was to just take this snapshot of examples.
It has not been missed that I notice that overall my daily view counts have been dropping. There is ever pressure to "make another video per week" to keep that momentum up.
But I find that a losers game. You see there is a saying in the stock market "don't try to catch a falling knife". What this means is that when you see a stock start to fall rapidly you may say "wow look how cheap it is now" but if you buy it the "falling knife" aspect is that if the company has serious internal issues it may fall further and further and hence you'll actually loose money. Anyway old stock market jib.
In regards to YouTube if you start to chase after keeping a certain view count per day or per video one problem you start to get is that ok, let's say on the last video approximately 3500 views if I had put one out on Saturday that video may have only 2500 views making your average view count per video effectively lower.
With a lower and lower average view count you may in the short term keep up some momentum but then people will start to see hey not that many people are watching these video and then less and less will watch the next and the next. So that's the falling knife aspect.
Before you know it your putting out 5 videos a week and each have 500 views less then the 3500 you have at 1 video and with 5 times the effort.
If people aren't watching the little content you do produce by giving more and more they will watch less and less. So the one a week stays. And if that little blurb helps some youtuber trying to get tips I'm happy to have helped once again.

Well two sort of just talking videos in a row, in really the exact same space and background. Here I was not looking my best as this was done very raw from me waking up....not even sure if I had turned on my computer at this point. But that was sort of the point....I wanted it raw here really raw.
This video was actually taken a couple days before the last and here I was much more enjoying looking at the sunny skies of the early morning....a few birds chirping was music to my ears.
Yep not a fan of social media and mobile technology. A Luddite...that's me.
You know in many ways especially with this venue, to then go and say...I'm not a fan it's so counter cultural so risky. But that's why you love me. I'm not afraid of telling the truth on Jake's Showcase, my truth anyway, going against the grain, being different even if that difference is right down to the core of how most watch me.
I have fans every other day now who want pictures in the streets with me. Just a selfie...with me. Who are these people, how do they know about me. Well they found me on social media half likely watching from some form of mobile technology. Yet here I explain why and how I myself really try to minimize use. In fact I count the good hours of hours I'm away from a phone and computer. Turn em off, unplug em. Those hours I'm experiencing the real world, the world I love.
Think Beatnicks, predating hippies, would love it. Greenwich, Beatniks, raw artists, Gothic, turn off them electronics and loving beauties...what a combo I am.
I love to entertain, it's true, I love the mystery, the mystique, it's true as well.
We, us, our type, we have to be different, we have to be multi colored, multi layered, why? To keep it interesting of course and more importantly to let our light shine.
A multi million dollar special effects studio can create fascinating stuff, create shows withing shows, keep the mind active and interested with war, fight scenes, dragons and beasts, fairies and princesses, unicorns that fly even.....they are wonderful entertainment. But little ol me, well I've just got me and this old beat up camera and a tiny space....so I have to use what I have....but oh my I have quite the mind.
So I keep it real, I keep it real for you the fan and I keep it real for me...and yes this is what I actually think.

First sorry about saying the date wrong as March 11, 2017 when in fact it was March 7, 2017 was actual date. I placed a correction annotation between the 8 and 14 second mark but apparently annotations only work on desktop computers and many of my viewers are on mobile. Nonetheless the date was March 7, 2017 and I must have being thinking of the March 11 date because that was one year since hitting my 1 million view final goal discussed previously.
Second, sorry about the lighting. I tried to gauge from previous videos if I had used simply all natural lighting or with a spotlight natural combined and I thought it was all natural....the difference was that in prior videos like this the sun was out and it was cloudy this day making a poor picture on hindsight. I just wanted some consistency from the place I sat from my 3 and 5 year sober videos.
Third, sorry about the camera being off angle. Because I am both my own camera person and presenter due to the camera stand having to be crammed between a radiator, cupboard and wall in order to sit in this chair for maximum natural light I have to angle the camera to the right spot by looking at it upside down and sidways making it quite difficult to aim to the right spot. Because the camera stand is and has been for years broken even the slightest touch will make the camera flop over so it's a real challenge to get a properly angled picture. Guess it right take a practice shot try to adjust and then make the talk and hope for the best. Here I wish I had it a bit higher because my hair was done.
Fourth and finally sorry for the slow start to this video. For about the first three minutes I stumbled and fumbled my introduction and hopefully it doesn't cause a quick tune out.

A Big Year....I Think So....Numbers and Thoughts

Ideally, this post would be written starting just before midnight and ending right after and I will explain why shortly....nonetheless I write about two hours prior to midnight and assure you I will be awake just over the bewitching hour of midnight tonight.
The main reason for this post currently March 11, 2017 is to mark 1 year when my YouTube channel Jake's Showcase surpassed my final channel goal of 1 million YouTube views which occurred March 11, 2016. Currently the channel is at 3,129,605 views overall. The channel has gone up by over 2 million views from my final goal an this year rose over 200%. That's a 200% growth rate.
A couple times most avid readers would note I put a sort of out of this world ballpark goal of 100,000,000 views since surpassing 1 million.
So Jake your 96,870,395 short. Did I ever tell you I'm a numbers junkie?
Still a pretty incredible year.
You know, I think the thing that sort of makes this story so interesting is the real chug, chug, chug, little engine that could, all from nothing, nature of what is and has happened.
I remember that night when I knew I had to get a camera the next day and start a YouTube channel. Technically it was two days later when the channel was started because I had a hard time getting Jake's Neat Channel registered and Jake's Showcase was the second choice done just after midnight. I was so sick of it. I was heated. I just couldn't figure it out. It was just past dark.
Between love, money, society as a whole, how could this possibly be so hard for me, I'm awesome, the world just didn't know who I was. The best way to break the cycle, jump to the upper echelons where I belonged was to create and let the internet find and raise me.
But I do remember the night, when I knew I had to start.
Now I've gone through hell since, up and down and up and down with jobs. Really none of the "payoffs" have happened that I wanted and expected. But I've kept swinging. Kept pushing. Why.
Especially now when I've got over a million views, you're done man, give it up.
And it's not even as fun as it use to be because before I'd do like a video Wednesday and like a couple more, whenever I got inspired but now I've tuned into this one video a week only robot with my eyes on the consistency and efficiency of view count per video as the prize....really kills the zip and vibe, but the best in the biz do it this way and hence, so do I.
Now what's this talk about midnight, Saturday at midnight in particular? It's the best time to break it...you know what I mean. Have figured out what's been wrong with me lately and while it's a world I don't understand, I've had to learn about it in order to undo it and fix it.
You have to learn the rules of the game you are playing in, in order to win or at least stop loosing.
I'm deeply attracted to the goths, the dark side, gargoyles, in fact I found out today I am a gargoyle, keeper of the gate. No wonder I like gargoyles recently, I am one. A goth, I don't know. The dark side, that doesn't really seem like me but with both Celtic and German roots, we are rooted in familiarity with these concepts.
So you break it over midnight on Saturdays, gargoyles, goths, what am I referring to? Enough hints at what it was.
I've learned.

"Nature Before Work - How I Reflect" Released

The weather gave a chance to get outdoors and so outdoors I went. While many around here claim the virtues of how "mild" or "warm" or "easy" this winter has been due to my job standing outside it has been as wretched of a winter as I can ever remember. I truly do not belong in the cold Canadian winter.
Here was a break in the snow and ice and of course I'm heading to water of some sort. Water takes that relaxation level to new heights and I almost always will seek it out given the chance.
Here it was just quite warm enough to voluntarily walk outside and actually hang by the river but usually I would just sit in my car and look at it from the heated interior.
I think the fan mail showing bits and pieces was a nice touch as people who sent me in stuff may recognize the items they sent and feel a connection and it did fit right in with the reflection part of my video. Reflect on my channel, my life, my job, the future, relationships, past relationships, possible future relationships, rekindled relationships, nature.
Watching nature and how birds, squirrels, geese, chipmunks, dogs, ducks, fish, insects and herons interact teaches me much. Like look how they choose food resources, partners, what are fights like, what are make ups like....nature tells all. And it's funny these animals just do it and know what to do and know what's going on and us humans seem to get so confused about how to do these things and just be human.
Like mind games.....do geese or dogs or squirrels have these, no. But people do. No posturing, no toying, no fake love in nature. Animals do not love for money.
It's strange how we confuse ourselves....almost intentionally an get away from nature and it's these times when I spend time quite just watching I see....yes I see....how it really is....how it really works.
Nature is got it all figured out.....I'm just the one who doesn't....so I continue to watch and learn how from my great teacher....mother nature.

Well first, I finally and very laboriously was able to crack 3000 views on this song today. Again a sharp disappointment particularly after my multiple attempts on it and I thought the lyrics were quite good and the presentation decent enough....a hit, the hit....I was hoping so....but the show must go on.
Tonight's blog will be different. You'll understand me a touch better.
So a dream, pricing a dream, how does Jakie Jake think....
Ok so to me the perfect house is I will explain.

It's $8.95 Million US solid red brick townhouse located in the west village, also known as Greenwich Village. This is a perfect house. It's 1.5 blocks to the Hudson overlooking both water and America proper. I love water and need it in my life, visually and biologically. This house has 4 bedroom and 3 bathrooms with 3000 square feet, a quaint patio yard safe cobblestone roads, near great schools, top shops and restaurants away from both West and Hudson street noise. It's also a 22 minute subway ride to the street or 48 minute or 1 hour and 10 Jake minute walk to the street. Oh, and I love walking.
So the house is big but not too, too big. Too, too big means too, too big to heat, to turn lights on, stairs to climb or elevators to maintain. You want some size to house guests but not to much or you become inefficient with your square footage cost usage rate.
Of course the house is beautiful and all fixed up. Class from top to bottom, new and easy to use and show everything. You need super class but not ornate opulence.
The one thing I was slightly confused at was the property taxes saying $17,618 and I was not sure if that was a month or a year. Extrapolating a years taxes out you'd get $211,416 which seems too much as condo's twice that price only have $92,000 taxes and fees so you'd have to assume it's the $17,618 still plenty.
The heating, water, electric and sewer charges for this decent sized but not too big house would be notable as well and but likely manageable. So holding this house and living in it for 25 years would cost $440,000 in taxes, round up to $500,000 with tax increases.The 25 years of formerly mentioned operating expenses would likely be $750,000.
No car needed of course in city especially here in the village.
Greenwich has been home to many of us. Of course it calls me. The artists the free thinkers, the explorers. At one point it was a not really desirable neighborhood. Fitting for a gent like me. But note that changed long long ago, and now that one house is more valuable then 39.9 houses by average house prices in this town I live in London with the exchanged dollars.
Close to water, close to class, close to the street, small, efficient red brick house, this is perfection.
And the price tallying it all up $10,200,000 grossing it up again for taxes $20,400,000 USD.

This is the most disappointing music video performance in quite some time as a numbers junkie the views and the like to dislike ratio is way low. Hence the rare Sunday night post. Really it's quite cold out as long time fans and followers would remember I tended to write on cold nights of the past.
The city has been calling me recently. And there is only one city. The vibe, the art, the reality, the hardcore everything....but where else would I really belong.
$8.9 million is how much I need for my desired house on Bank St. But then of course the taxes...how to keep up. What would I do there? Just live? Soak it in. It makes no sense to the commoner how this is exactly what I should do but it does.
Someone like me needs the stimulation, the energy the pulse. Where is humanity at right now in time? What do they need? Where better then at it's heartbeat.
Some may not believe in the ability for world changing insights from some little dude from nowhere....where are you from? What? Where's that?
Algorithms, healing, metamorphosis is this within our realm. Can we fly?
Sparkly eyed memorized and in love oh dear, oh dear. I really wish I spoke Canadian. Particularly Canadian Female. I'm a great talker, communicator, but I really have no clue how to read this Canadian female type.
Brash and bold is so much easier to understand and the black woman takes this prize.
Sure I like them all....all types that is....but not as much as you darling.
Incredibly lonely tonight. A date would be nice. With time, a few nickles, it being cold, a movie fits the bill with some popcorn and butter....lots of butter.

Oh, I'm a weird one ain't I? I don't know if you have or haven't noticed but I frequently try to place a workout video following a music video but this time I did it opposite. A or the reason? You see I know that in general the workout videos do the best and draw the largest audience and the music videos do the worst or use to and that sort of mix and match tries to balance them out.
I had been doing a music video every 5 weeks however hear I jump the gun and go for another song with only a two week gap.
Thankfully I took more practice swings with this song and while it was a touch slower then other variations it was the least mistake filled and I think an overall good one possibly the best?
Am I a musician? Well I guess with now 49 music videos I can say yes. Of course I'm so much more but the music is coming along nicely and one of these songs is going to blow up.
Hey sure maybe my three chord special here doesn't really show much progression with the chords but I don't think that will improve much as I don't really aspire to learn the far advanced skill set of a amazing guitarist. I do however aspire to nail the rhythm, the chord playing laying down I do do, the words, beat, and overall execution of the song. I don't want to advance much in skill, but I do want to really nail the songs I make and with 11 attempts here I show more energy I was willing to put into it...ps I did the takes over three days and choose the fourth and fifth days.
You see I know that if I take off, I'll get a band and that band will have those skills. I also may get equipment, synthesizers, voice tuners, mics and the sorts. But I need to put out a glorious performance first to get seriously picked up. We're talking a viral hit....a music viral hit.
This song here is pretty close....it may be the one. Catchy, upbeat and relatable to the masses.
Eminem said in an interview on Jonathan Ross's show in the United Kingdom "if your heart is in it and you preserve it will eventually click and work out for you." (This quote may be a couple words off but that was the jist.)

I have to say I'm a touch surprised as I thought that this video would have a higher view count for it's shall we say "courageous content". If you remember me griping with Christmas week release of "Skinny Guy First Time Ever with Dumbbells" https://youtu.be/QUZ1Gnm0G38 currently at 24,030 Views 1036 Likes 82 Dislikes, as on that first few days up to the Saturday it only had 9000 views at the time.
I thought this current video was more entertaining a little more loud and in your face and yet it only has over 6000 views much less then the 9000 of the prior.
I think I've figured out one key factor is that I am no longer at my previous job. At that job in the factory there was a lot of people whom I interacted every day and the scope was very international. Even though that video was released one day before my last day on that contract I think I had stirred up a lot of interest and intrigue there. Now not being there I don't have that same every day international flavor and potential audience.
Still 6000 is not bad per say just not rock star status which I'd say is over 10,000 thousand. Remember I'm still a tiny, drop in the bucket channel, really, low subscribers, low average view count 7473, clearly low production value....I'm just a junior kinda nothing.
You see these channels with the high everything....subscribers, views, just everything and they all have great cameras, equipment, props, actors, special effects. Me, I just jump around in my living room.
Oh, yearning. I have to say starlet, I think of nothing else but you. Really what is life if not with your love.
What is passion without a flame. What is a connection without kiss, a touch.

Well first 2 days ago I passed my record high for overall channel view count now at 3,068,546, it took me just less then a month to recover from YouTube's view count audit subtracting just over 95,000. So I'm pleased to be back in record territory and a good reminder to just keep doing things right and sticking to it and you'll get the views back if any are subtracted. This is about the 10th time a significant drop happened since my channel began but it was the largest and a good reminder that by continuing to push forward it you get it all back and some.
Well, this video. Told ya. Told ya sports fans that I'd have more for you. I just didn't expect it to be this early and was expecting to do another workout themed video like April??? But a sudden jolt of February warm weather sun induced energy I just wanted to do it now. It was the very last day when it was to be really cold when you looked at the forecast and I was all pent up like a caged dog and decided to use that energy on a quick take of Shadow Boxing. Why I choose a five minute challenge, I don't know it just seemed like a good amount of time.
Really it was like 3 years ago I remember someone had suggested it and I had wanted to try it for a while, but quite honestly was not really sure what it was so I had to learn and watch what shadow boxers are and what do they do. I watched a few clips got all coffeed up and tried to go for it.
Man, it was exhausting. Even at my measly pace and form it was like a full blown cardio workout in five minutes. Gotta hand it to the real shadow boxers for their stamina.
And oh yeah and I really hadn't done any physical working out for like a long time so I was extra winded, but I think my main message to get that body moving now that it's spring was understood. You don't have to be a pro, great, even good at exercise, but it's a great idea to do something to get that rust off and that body moving.
I think this video may catch many by surprise as my more toned down theme of recent past has made it a more mundane channel and then wham, a wild one. Truth is in the winter, the cold, really binds you in get you down in the dumps and it's hard to really want to do anything let alone an exciting video. The spring and summer give you many more good weather and good mood options for entertainment.
And oh yes, the warm weather means spring has come early, and so has the season for love darling.
While space time and distance may have us apart this second, me and you are really truly always together, the artist and his artistic lover thinking, dreaming, loving each other every moment of every day.....and night.

I had to do it. The first from Canada....and the biggest thing....combined....yep it was cause for a video take and upload. And yes, some may be a bit bored with fan mail openings with three now in the past 6 weeks, but really.....this has been years in coming and there are already so, so, so, many variety of videos that people can watch and re watch if they like that style and performance type.
When you sit really alone on a island for years in your quest for YouTube as a way out....when you walk back and forth methodically around the main streets of a city where the cold temperatures are objectively hazardous so as to up your viewership of your channel because "on foot" marketing is the only marketing that you can afford with no money. Hey, and then you get a po box with $275 that you don't have because you got your hands on that amount for a couple days 9 months ago and finally things start coming in.....yeah it's a big deal.
Do you know how many cases of frost bite I've endured as my socks would freeze solid on my walks? This is over years... and it use to be much worse when I did not have a car.
Really since I hit 1 million views which was my original and big goal March 11, 2016 I have not made this trip near as regular as I don't need the marketing push like I once did. Also helps I'm over 3 million less then a year later....so the channel is big enough....for my original goals.
I use to walk everyday the exact same route twice a day almost 365 days a year....like a crazy person? No, like a driven dreaming business entrepreneur....a maverick of sorts....I don't know but I've never heard of a story like mine on YouTube. The raw bones style.
I love gritty basketball players. The rebounders, the blockers, the hustle men, do they need to score? No...they may score low numbers, never get the spotlight but they get the 1-3 shots in they get in a game. All the stars on the winning teams know that sure they're the stars but without these heart and guts guys they couldn't have won....and hence they wouldn't be getting the highlight interview....so they love these guys.
Oh yeah and the whole sober thing....jumping back a paragraph. Remember this is also a story of a guy getting and staying sober. Imagine with my driven dedication that I've show for this lowly youtube channel and walking like a madmen on busy intersections and malls in the rain, heat, snow....I make mailmen look bad because I did it on the weekends too....just imagine what a crazy bad drunk I was....the worst...ever.
So, yes, I opened another fan mail....and I think it was a perfect fitting choice.

This song I'll admit could have used more practice. The intention was to do a few takes the first day and then maybe listen to it and in a couple of days do a few more takes, learn from the mistakes try to improve where I could and then with about 15 takes pick the best one. However, this fifth take I thought was half decently done and I really lost the energy to do it again and again those couple days later. I thought this was good enough.
You have to remember I am limited in my ability to record and synchronize music to any way shape or form to the point of my full satisfaction because I do not have a music studio, proper microphones, additional instruments, synthesizers, voice tuners and all the other wide variety of musical editing equipment, I have a guitar, stung upside down mind you, and a voice, and and a microphone attached to my $256 almost 5 year old Kodak Playsport camera.
True that doesn't preclude me from practicing again and again and again and pulling off a better performance on a single shot video, however you do have to realize the frustration of recognizing the reality of "how much better can you actually make it" given my constraints and then you deal with the drop in energy that I experienced and you might understand why I went with this.
I found out yesterday I did not get hired at a local call center which was very disappointing because I had the experience, it was something I was good at, it was safe, it paid well for the city I live in and I had a friend with a good reputation and who had been given a promotion on the inside who had recommended and vouched for me. It was a real shot to the loins....and the reason....for real....when they saw and interviewed me they realized I was Jake Johnston from Jake's Showcase. No way not him.
It's hard with you dare to dream, dare to be different to blend into typical corporate culture. You want something more, something different something better and corporations want the same. They want basic statistics, they don't want noise, they don't want standout, they don't want controversy. They want the same.
They don't even want potential, noise, standouts or controversy. Making noise in this town is your death null.
What a poor guy wants to be rich.....well that won't work.....na, find another candidate for me.
I still do have one major job in que but otherwise back to looking tomorrow.
I think big picture if I don't get that big big job it's becoming more and more likely that this will be my life. YouTube, performance, entrepreneurship. Really it already is my life and always will be to some extent because I've chosen the internet as my outlet and that lives forever. In fact it would be pretty cool, I just make videos....oh yeah and I have enough money and some thank you.

This video was actually two video taken on corresponding days. Like the initial fan mail video from the UK I received the second piece about 8 days after posting that video. When I shot the video for that second piece I didn't really think it was quite enough to post as a weekly video...well actually it was but I just wasn't sure. When I got the third and fourth piece on the same day and took that video I thought it was long and likely entertaining enough on it's own but I had to include that second piece and do it in order because it just the right thing to do.
This video again is quite long which I'll say is over 10 minutes to be a long video but because the interesting box is opened at the end from New Zealand only those who watch the full video will be full entertained. This video is kind of like me. If you look just at the appeal at a quick first glance, it might not grab you, you might tune out and write it off.....but if your patient, look deeper, really dig into it you'll find gold at the end.
Yes I'm liking myself to a long slow starting entertaining, enjoyable and fun filled finishing fan mail video.
Just think about that though....I have fans....who like me enough to send me things, notes, letters, drawings and support from around the world.
This guy who walks up and down the street almost every day in a little speck town on the map is being sent worldwide international fan mail. Amazing. Thank you.
You know I have thought long and hard about if the ability to simply make videos was there would I do it and would I up the per week video content? Generally yes.
So here's the pluses and minuses of higher number of per week video releases. You get more videos out which gets your hard core fans watching more often, overall pushing you channel's video count higher and many of YouTube's back end metrics up. So you get more views, subscribers faster overall.
But the minuses. Your working a lot, lot more on YouTube, thinking of ideas, shooting footage, retaking and editing, uploading, titling, tagging and your average per video view count falls making your next video less valuable, you flood the market with you, you and more you making you not exciting, not anticipated, less and less special until many tune out.
And look years ago when I was doing 2-3 or even 4 videos a week I look back now and see many never even got 1000 views even after years of being available. So really the go time for a video is the period of time in which it is listed as your headlining piece.
Overall, I think the mix of me wanting to make more a week to keep my head fresh I would likely balance it out with two a week. But I'm not in that situation right now so the one a week stays for now.
So much is changing in my life right now for the better I can't wait for it all to unfold.

I do not know the number of frames however either none or only one was cut out and it was all natural lighting.
Just to step back for a moment, my curiosity about last weeks video "Love At Work - What You Really Want To Say" https://youtu.be/CqBsSyai1Kk currently at 5468 Views 341 Likes 37 Dislikes and my ability to obtain over 10,000 views on a 2.5 minute not search friendly dramatic inspired monologue was answered and no I could not only getting 5400 views.
Here is the exact opposite with a 24 minute video, sort of evening out the time. I don't do it for time. I know that YouTube wants us to concentrate on time watched, engagement, and a whole variety of ever changing statistics and metrics. But really what I think they want is production. They want the creator to be happy and produce.
So instead of trying to figure it all out what I do is go with the flow, my flow and what I think would make a good video or something that I want to share or talk about. Staying inspired is key. Inspired artists and creators is what YouTube wants because we draw the fans, the entertainers.
Just today my total views were dropped by almost 100,000. I did notice about 2 weeks ago my views jump but without corresponding back end or adsense numbers, I didn't know why. Now YouTube has taken them off and I don't know why.
Ultimately and eventually YouTube gets it right. My job is to try to make good videos. Their job is to count. So the numbers will be what the numbers will be. Even though it seems like a big drop I'm now a veteran of this type of stuff and I know I soon get it back and catch back up.
Real life has been wild as usual. I sit between dreams and reality. I never have enough to actually do anything, but I always have enough to get by.
Looking for work and the prospects are bright at the moment. Looking for love and the prospects are not so bright at the moment.
At some point though, they'll be significant changes in both departments. A significant income increase eventually will occur. And my vast ability to having ladies frown at me will eventually be turned upside down into smiles....it's just taking like a long, long time.
Be nice, dream hard, hope for the best, give what you can to people, don't pay attention to the negative and protect yourself from it the best you can, spend time looking for the positive and being with those who feed you that energy. These are my life secrets. This is how I live.

"Love At Work - What You Really Want To Say" Released

This video will be an interesting test. You see 4 out of the past 5 videos and in fact 8 out of the past 10 I have been able to clear 10,000 views per video. But this one is markedly different. There's nothing to it really.
From a search based criteria rating it is a poor choice. The single shot and frame makes not a lot of interaction in the video. The topic purely my voice. So it doesn't show up in many searches, there's not a lot of material with only a two minute 35 second video and my people have been waiting a week and it's just effectively a snid bit. Hummm, why this video, would it actually be possible to get 10,000 with this little piece? That would really mark a new era if even on a topic-less dramatic arts piece I'm able to still obtain this 10,000 threshold which as mentioned many times is a very bare minimum for a viral video.
To my credit and what may make it possible is that it is short, therefore doesn't require much time to pay attention out of peoples busy days. But true fans will see that it is the passion that I speak with, the conviction, the honesty.
This was cut raw from the cloth, there would be no retake, it came out this way, it was going to be this way and that was it. James Dean famous for his fiery inspirational ad libbed one shot one take cuts of camera purity was way ahead of his time. Dramatic arts at it's finest is just like this. Sort of scripted, but not really, truly pure heart and soul, magic for the camera.
How do you think I'd be in a movie? I think I'd stick a bit closer to script, but I think it's that rawness that I would keep fresh. While recently I haven't spoken much about my desire to work in a movie or on a tv show as my general vlogging style has come more to the fore but I would love to be called by Sony Pictures, MGM, Disney and asked to play a role.
Remember all of this is in efforts to extinguish my poverty ways. Be it YouTube, the big screen, a record, tv, commercials, you name it, I just want a way where my talents in talking, acting, singing, writing get me out of the poorhouse.
I will never be able to win the game on the sluggers field. I'm no good at it and it pays way, way, way not enough. You will always be poor if you do what poor people do. You have to think different, dream different keep searching, keep believing to find your way to the better wealthier more prosperous life. My search and dream continues.

First regarding this video, I guess my excitement and exuberance of this first check was more about where it was from, they style and age of it and how it came to be rather then the amount. I think I capture the idea of what I am trying to convey well here. I got a first pay check, I was proud of it and I laminated a copy to remember it.
This week in looking at the channel there is no doubt that the YouTube algorithm switch which many big YouTubers videos have talked about on YouTube has hit me hard as well as my view counts have tumbled in the past six weeks including back end adsense numbers.
But instead of ranting, because who are we to rant, I realized today that YouTube itself had been the reason for the view count decline as some of my videos were pushed down the YouTube search rankings into the millions of videos abyss.
Upon thinking about this to myself I thought "ok if my videos are burried what can be done" but then it dawned on me. You see one thing that makes me and my Jake's Showcase unique is that I'm an epic dynamic personality with a wide variety of video types subjects and styles. People who've latched onto me get hooked and that fascination leads to them searching me and the videos I'm in out. Another video may rank higher, have more views, more of all the metrics deemed important to the algorithm at the moment (remember algorithms change and change again) but they don't have me in them. People want to see me and my videos. Therefore I believe I shall continue to slowly grow as I've really been doing since the beginning and maybe someday there will be a huge spike due to an algorithm switch, YouTube choosing to promote me or just a groundswell of underground support.
Bad News. Found out yesterday the factory I had worked at in the fall does not want me back in the spring. I had mentioned it was 50-50 they'd have me back and I guess my perfect attendance was not enough to compensate for the reality I was a one man walking factory hazard. I'm not a factory guy, couldn't believe it when I was hired couldn't believe it I kept the job. But unlike the 4-5 other jobs I've had since I've started YouTube this was not a quit or a fire it was simply a contract which I completed my end of the bargin and they theirs and they are just not moving forward with the next contract. I wasn't sure I would have taken it anyway because the pay would be slashed by 25% and yet the very real threats of amputation and a wide variety of injuries and illness's remained constant.
So I'm down to this little job of 3 hours a shift. And we haven't worked for a week because of cold. So really I'm out of a job again. The job hunt really started today. I need a job again in this wretched job town called London. Really after working a higher then minimum wage job I realize there's a huge difference getting paid more because at minimum wage or close to it you can never get your head above water. I also realized that almost all jobs in this town are minimum wage retail or call center jobs. I think it's was the worst unemployment town in the country last time I checked and even if it's not anymore it's close to it.
Cold, crappy paying jobs where bosses can pick whoever they like because the unemployment rate is so high you'd never question this as the only world if I hadn't been in jobs an situations where I was flush and well compensated.
Really it is YouTube and my fans that will save me, emancipate me, for once and for all.
Last month due to a huge YouTube view jump I am not panicking like I normally would if it hadn't of happened. In my current situation I did not work enough hours in the fall to qualify for unemployment insurance.
I guess that whole Mennonite vs Catholic thing I guess that was all a bunch of hewy. I still dig the Mennonites way of life, the simplicity, the honesty, the dial down on technology. But I was born Catholic.
One more thing, I've had an accident. I smashed my face due to eating Granola (yes Granola, of all things), , broke my nose, really hurt, really bloody and scary, but healing hoping for minimum scars.
Darling, baby, sweetie. Love is a whole other concept. A mystical mystery weaving back and forth. We can never be lonely because we are always one in spirit. Our lips and bodies joining are only the symbol of our ever present love for each other.
