Vivid Sydney 2013

This year I was away for most of the spectacular event but did manage to get down to Circular Quay on the last Saturday. I do prefer the quieter mid week trip as I can snap a few more of the displays up close and personal, but walking the bridge was something I hadn’t done for a while and made me very proud to be a Sydney resident and part of the City of Sydney. The City of Sydney and Destination NSW put on an amazing event with Vivid, just one amazing event of many that the city play host to. A big thanks to all involved.

Exmouth, Whale Sharks

Wow. I have been extremely fortunate in my life, swimming with these majestic animals was a moment I’m likely to dream about forever. Spending a week at the Ningaloo reef was to be honest too short. I could have done another week and a few more trips with the whale sharks.

Exmouth, Manta Rays

It was windy they didn’t have enough bookings and boats were cancelling tours all over the place, but we made the 1.5hr drive to Coral Bay in darkness in the hope a tour would go ahead. As the sun emerged we arrived, with the sun shining and 2 other tourists joining the Manta tour we were off! The spotter plane was given the all clear to take off from the local airport to begin the search for the rays… We managed 2 snorkels prior to getting the call, then literally just 10m from the beach we swam with this amazing Manta Ray, the water was a little milky but the ray put on an amazing display for the 4 of us. A number of barrel rolls and a few laps of the beach feeding… amazing. It was our last swim on this trip, one we wont forget.

There’s lots of kilometres to explore up here… you could takes a few weeks to do this place properly.

From Exmouth to Coral Bay, Ningaloo reef from the beach or from a boat, as well at the landscape and wildlife, its all just amazing!

Cottesloe Beach, Perth

We spent a few days in Perth for a wedding, right on Cottesloe Beach. I have to say for anyone staying in Cottesloe you have book an evening at “il lido” the food was amazing as well as the service and atmosphere.

Rottnest Island, Salmon Bay

Right next door to Little Salmon Bay, is Salmon Bay!

If the wind is come from the north or south, south east you’ll be sure find this bay as you see it here. Flat and out of the wind. A perfect place to escape to.

Rottnest Island, Little Salmon Bay

Without a doubt one of the hidden treasures on Rottnest Island, protected in a bay from big swells, making it safe accessible from a sandy beach. The clarity of the water was exceptional, the sea life equally as impressive. I even managed to swim with a sea lion here but she proved too elusive for the camera.

Just a few days on Rottnest Island, our first mistake. If you’re an outdoors person you need to set aside an entire week minimum. We could not have had better weather and arriving in May as they come into their off season was a master stroke as we had most places to ourselves as we cycled around.

Joel Madden’s Housewarming Party

I wouldn’t normal drop a video in, but you need to pay attention from the 37 sec mark… was very happy to this A, on the wall and B, without a 2nd thought Joel gave it a massive wrap!

I was behind the cameraman at the time and was very tempted to interject and claim some appraise but decided that would be very inappropriate. Any way here’s the original and its partner in crime along with some other Madden House warming pictures.

Lastly a massive thanks to all involved as you not have faith in my ability but you also make these amazing events so enjoyable to work on!

Joel’s team, and lastly Joel himself. Even the small conversations had at the media wall while getting through almost a hundred pictures was time enough to realise he is a top bloke.

Hereward Shipwreck (part 2)

Another week of no waves around Sydney beaches set the scene for another wreck dive at Maroubra beach exploring the amazing Hereward shipwreck meters from the beach.

So this is part 2, my 3rd dive at the site… the 2nd was unsuccessful…

May the next visit be when the swell is 0ft, the water crystal clear with the sun shining and the wreck still exposed…
I might also win the lotto…
