Considering Satellite TV

We were considering getting satellite tv. We looked at DirecTv, Dish, and FTC Vision. Looking at the websites for each one, DirectTv and Dish seemed to be cheaper than FTC Vision for the first year. In the long run looks like FTC Vision will be cheaper and there is no contract, so if it doesn’t work well, we can go somewhere else.

We pretty much ruled out Dish because they wanted a 2 year contract. I ruled out DirecTv this morning when they called me to talk about the service. There basic receiver is $5.00/month. I asked if that was a lease. The salesman’s response was yes and that is was covered under warranty for 90 days, and if I wanted more protection, I could buy and extend warranty. This sounded a bit screwy to me, so I asked, “Are you saying that I have to buy a warranty on YOUR equipment, what exactly does the $5.00/month buy?” She hemmed and hawed a bit and tried to say it was like leasing a car or some such nonsense. She tried to justify this a bit, then I asked, “So if lightning takes out your recevier which I am leasing, I have to purchase another one?” She asked me to hold on a bit, I told her never mind.

Sheila went by and signed up with FTC, hopefully that service will be ok. We asked the question about if we loose a recevier due to lightning, if they would replace it. She said, “Call 611 from your land line and open a trouble ticket.”

Ugliest Car Award Has to go to the Nissan Cube

Austin’s Baseball Game 20 May 2010

Austin’s team played in Lamar again. Unfortunately his team lost, but it was a good game. The final score was 10-9. It was tied in the last inning, they played an extra inning to break the tie.

I managed to catch a picture of Austin at bat and the ball. Unfortunately it was a strike, but I thought this was a cool picture.

Not bad for my old point and shoot. The lights on the field wreaked havoc on the optics though. Don’t know how to get around that.

Baseball And Softball Updates

It has been a while since I wrote about Austin’s and Laura Leight’s ballgames. Well, I have been busy. I have not written about the last several games. Austin’s team seems to be doing quite well. Austin is doing much better this year and continues to improve.

Laura Leigh’s team seems to be in a slump right now, Laura too. They don’t seem to be hitting or catching well.

There are a few more games left in the season, I will try to have more pictures of the last games.

Bishopville FBC VBS — Saddle Ridge Ranch

Saddle Ridge Ranch is scheduled 7 thru 11 June, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon at Bishopville First Baptist Church. The VBS is geared toward children who have completed K5-6th grade. There will be games, bible study, mission, music and crafts. A horse name Champ will be there. He has actually already shown up to help out Pastor Sam.

The theme of this years VBS is “Roundin’ up questions and drivin’ home answers…” VBS will focus on questions real kids ask like: “Who am I?”, “Does God care about me?”, and “What is God’s plan for me?”

The central verse is “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

The church is located at 229 W. Church St., Bishopville, SC.
