Back when I traveled to other cities for a living, we would be staying for periods ranging from a few weeks to close to a year. What we used to do is make deals with hotels. Granted there were usually six or seven of us, so we had some bargaining ability. However, you might be able to get a good deal at a hotel offering to stay for a month or two. The only draw back is that usually they only offer the deals if you only take room service once a week, or every other week only. In Dallas we were able to get decent rooms, near the airport for $500.00 per month, paid in advance. The daily rate was something like $70.00.

Good luck.

I found the dual-booting to be completely worthless and didn't set it up when I replaced my hard drive after the crash. The only advantage is in being able to carry one machine instead of two, but the two systems don't talk to each other. It's not like I can have both running at the same time.

A better solution is to run as a Mac and use Parallels emulation. When I got my MacBook, the tool was almost worthless, as it didn't have integration and had issues using the wireless. But my understanding is that things are different now. I haven't had a chance to re-install that software (instead relying on my old 2000 Windows machine), but it's a better solution than shutting down and pretending one or the other doesn't exist.

Thanks for everybody's input on this post. I am leaving my car in Indiana since I know having a car in SF is really hard. Plus the 33 hour drive alone is not appealing at all.

Based on the lack of luck I have had with apartments I will probably end up searching after I get out there. Part of my offer was 2 weeks of corporate housing.

I will be in San Jose starting on the 29th for a conference and then in SF the next week so I am starting to think maybe I'll wait till I can get out there and see stuff.

Hi Jamie, That's great. Please check
out the area carefully before you end up living in SF and working in San Jose. That's really far and commutes are NOT fun out here. Mtn View and Palo Alto are great and about as far north as I would live with a job in San Jose. Great area, lots of neat things to do and see and PayPal is a great company. Enjoy.

My fiance and I were at Stanford last yr. I just wanted to let you know you should check out the drive before you look for SF housing. The best way to go is probably the train if you really want to live in SF and have your job in San Jose. The commute ends up being a lot longer than mapquest represents! Good luck.

Hi Philip,

I don't really know more than what is in the BBC article. Apparently it will go on sale in May around the world. My best guess would be to contact Emporia, office@emporia.at, and let them know you are interested. I would imagine they would know who is going to support their phone in the US.
