Throughout my time writing for Product-Reviews I’ve tried to keep readers informed on how to get rid of some of the nastiest viruses and spyware infections which have affected people around the world – today we are telling you about two rogue software titles which are very similar to one-another these are ‘Windows Trojans Sleuth’ and ‘Windows Trojans Inspector’- they both look genuine, but as you’d expect all is not as it seems.

Windows Trojans Sleuth and Windows Trojans Inspector are both relatively easy to remove, all it takes is a little patience, mediocre computer skills and an understanding that all the worrying messages which these legit-looking programs throw your way are part of a scam put together to exploit your money. Below we have embedded a screenshot of Windows Trojans Sleath, it looks identical to what you’d see if you was infected with the Windows Trojans Inspector malware, in fact the only difference is the application’s name.

You can see the entire removal procedure here, we will summarize the process quickly for you in our article for the convenience of our more knowledgeable readers – but if you run into issues be sure to check out the link we added to the beginning of this paragraph.

Step 1: Boot your computer into ‘Safe Mode with Networking’. Step 2: Reset you computer’s connection settings by opening Internet Explorer, going into ‘Internet Options’, selecting the ‘Connections’ tab and then clicking on the ‘LAN Settings’ button. Now that’ you’re in LAN Settings tick the box next to ‘Use a proxy server for your LAN’ and then click OK, you’ll then have to click OK once more and this stage of the process is done.

Step 3: This non-essential stage in the removal process will significantly speed-up the removal procedure as the lengthy scans won’t have so many files to sift through – basically click on this link to download CCleaner and once you’ve downloaded the installer run it. Once installed open up CCleaner via the desktop shortcut and click ‘Yes’ is a message appears, once in hit ‘Run Cleaner’ and CCleaner will delete all the unnecessary files which have built up on your computer over time – this may take some time, but be patient.

Step 4: You must now download rKill from this page and run it on your computer (on Vista or Windows 7 you may have to right-click rKill.exe and select ‘Run as Administrator’) it will take a minute or so to stop malware-related background processes from running, but once complete you’re ready to go onto the next stage.

Step 5: Finally download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware from here and install it. Once installed open up the newly installed program and click on the ‘Update’ tab, hit check for updates to ensure that you will be scanning for the newest infections – once you’re sure you are up-to-date click on the ‘Scan’ tab and run a full system scan. The scan will take at least an hour (in most cases), but once complete all infected files will show up, hit ‘Remove Selected’ and then MBAM will clear the infection’s – you’ll have to restart your computer, but when it’s back up you will be infection free – see, how easy was that?

That should be the end of your Windows Trojans Sleuth / Inspector worries, but be sure to let us know if you run into difficulties in the comments section below and we’ll do our best to help you.

Recently Apple launched iOS 5.1 and with it comes lots of new and improved features, however we must warn any of you who are looking to update to this new iOS and jailbreak / unlock it that you should steer well clear for the time being – this applies to you no-matter what iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch you’re using, even it’s the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S.

We’ve been traipsing through websites and forums to try and see if there’s a jailbreak for iOS 5.1, but to our knowledge this doesn’t exist yet, what we did spot was some Twitter activity from some well-known iOS hackers which confirms our suspicions.

A tweet from @digidude512 (an iOS hacker since iOS 2.21) was retweeted by a very well known iOS hacker who goes by the alias p0sixninja (Twitter feed here). We’ve embedded the tweet below and as you can see it’s safe to say that if these people warn against jailbreakers updating to iOS 5.1 it should not be done.

Jailbreakers: Don’t touch iOS 5.1 no jailbreak tethered or untethered is out.Unlockers: LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE!

— usr:Leon Lionheart (@digidude512) March 7, 2012

If you check out this tweet you can see that someone is claiming that a jailbreak for the official version of iOS 5.1 is coming very soon. Apparently a team called the DyLibHackers have successfully jailbroken iOS 5.1 beta 3 and it’s just a matter of time until they finalize a jailbreak for the public release version of the software – we’re not sure how genuine this is at present, so we’ll have to keep you posted. Also the phrase “a matter of time” is very vague, a matter of time could mean, second, minutes, hours, days, weeks or more – we want specifics!

We tried to find out more about the DyLibHackers but there’s not a lot showing up, apparently they’ve also been working on bring BBM to iOS via an application called iBBM – but that’s about it.

As and when we hear more about a tethered or untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 we will keep you posted, let us know if you hear anything.

Buying a gaming laptop is never an easy task, however if price is not a worry and sheer horsepower is what you’re interested in you should remember the name of the laptop which we’re going to tell you all about today – the MSI GT780 GX.

Within the last 24 hours or so a spec sheet seems to have started doing its rounds in regards to this laptop’s technical specifications, nothing has been confirmed by the guys at MSI just yet, however none-the-less we thought we would tell you what the rumors are stating. For now don’t take the following specs too seriously, but with that said we very much doubt they will turn out to be too inaccurate as Notebook Italia tend to be pretty much spot on with their leaks.

We are led to believe that the 2012 MSI GT780 GX will comes with a 17.3-inch display which outputs at 1600 x 900 pixels as standard, however there will be an optional upgrade to a Full HD display (1920 x 1080) if you prefer. As for performance hardware we’re told that it will utilize the Intel Core i7-2920XM Extreme Edition processor (CPU spec sheet here), 16GB of DDR3 RAM and GeForce GTX570M graphics – this graphics card features 3GB of dedicated DDR5 RAM on it.

Other specs / features worth checking out include its THX sound, two storage drive bays, its Steelseries gaming keyboard and its 9-cell battery – unsurprisingly these impressive specifications take its toll on the weight of the MSI GT780 GX and we’re told it will weigh 3.85kg. Something else which is a major factor in the laptop’s weight is its cooling system, this laptop utilizes a Cooler Boost heatsink which should keep things running pretty ‘cool’ even when Intel’s Turbo Boost feature pushes the processor’s fours cores to over 4.16GHz.

Interestingly Intel’s official website says that the Core i7 Extreme Edition 2920XM runs at up to 3.5 GHz with Turbo Boost – so we’re not sure what to make of the rumored 4.16GHz clock speeds – but that’s not too important, at the end of the day as either way you look at it, it’s going to be fast.

The two storage bays will be great for those of you who want fast SSD read / write times and the storage capacity of standard hard disk drives in unison, the price of solid-state drives is still high so perhaps people will opt for a low-capacity SSD in conjunction with a large HHD – that’s what we’d do anyway.

Hopefully we will find out more about this intriguing laptop pretty soon, when we can confirm / refute the specs and features mentioned in this brief article we = will keep you posted. Our biggest concerns at present are its potential price and how long it will run from a single charge.

How much gaming time do you expect from a single charge these days?

Many Halo fans aren’t too sure what to expect from the next Halo video game, this is because this time around we’ll be playing a game developed by 343 Industries instead of Bungie – recently the guys at 343 uploaded a video to YouTube which gives us a taster of what to expect from Halo 4, it has to be said that having watched the video we’re more excited about this game than we have ever been before.

The first look video has been embedded at the bottom of this post, it lasts over 4 minutes and we get to see lots of glimpses of what 343 Industries plan to bring to the game, one thing which is reaffirmed is Master Chief’s new armor – something which we spoke about in detail in this article. We have added an image below which shows Master Chief’s armor in Halo 3 alongside the new armor in Halo 4 below.

343 say that in Halo 4 they want it to feel like you’re controlling a heavy, powerful, yet athletic super hero when you’re controlling Master Chief, there’s a brief mention of new gameplay being added – however no further details were disclosed. Something else we get to see is the new HUD (heads up display), you can see a screenshot showing this below, 343 say that it’s quite similar to a fighter jet HUD, do you like the new look?

Some other things which get a mention in the video include a teaser toward’s the plot, there are no specifics, but we are told that the campaign will entail Master Chief fighting for something important against a bigger threat than ever before. At times in the video we get to see the use of facial tracking technologies which suggests that cinematic sections in the campaign will feel more immersive thanks to accurate expressions, this combined with more detailed visuals than ever before should combine nicely.

The video also reveals that all weapons, vehicles and enemies have been graphically overhauled and we can confirm that you’ll have the familiar Battle Rifle at your disposal with its precision sight and burst fire – you can see the new-look design below.

There are still a few more things to tell you, if you thought that Halo 3′s sounds weren’t quite making the most of your audio equipment we can confirm that the sounds of guns etc should be great in Halo 4 thanks to an all-new audio team who are hard at working capturing the all new sound effects. But that’s not all, we also know that 100 tracks have already been recorded by the orchestra.

It’s not just sound which is completely new, the multiplayer maps in this game are said to be built from scratch as well, so you won’t just see segments of terrain and building from previous Halo games “cut and pasted” into Halo 4, instead you are seeing completely new designs which take competitiveness very seriously. In the first look video we get to see two of these fresh new maps, one of which is called Warhouse and the other is called Wraparound. Warhouse is pretty intriguing, it’s basically an abandoned military base which surrounds a giant mech which is being built, as for Wraparound we don’t know a great deal, but 343′s Lead Designer (Brad Welch), tells us that it is a looping arena with lots of verticality.

That’s about all we can tell you about what’s revealed in the Halo 4 first-look video, however we must just point out that everything which we’ve told you is “subject to change” (343′s words not ours). Check out the video below and tell us if you spotted something which we missed.

Perhaps the most jaw-dropping thing we got to see at this year’s Mobile World Congress was the Nokia 808 PureView and its camera which takes photos at amazing 41 megapixel resolutions, today however we have heard some annoying news for any American wishing to get their hands on this impressive smartphone.

Engadget and multiple other sources tell us that there are no plans to release the Nokia 808 PureView in North America. Obviously this doesn’t mean that it will be impossible to get hold of, it just means you’ll probably have to import it. This means that only those with money to buy this smartphone outright will have the chance to get their hands on the 808 PureView as no US carriers will be offering it at a cheaper price as part of a two or three year agreement. Back in August last year we told you that Nokia planned to scrap Symbian smartphone launches in North America, however we must say that we thought that Nokia may have made an exception for this particular device.

There are mixed opinions about the Nokia 808 PureView at present, yes the camera is ground-breaking and could put serious pressure on the compact digital camera market, but many are put off by the software which it runs on (Symbian Belle). We want to see PureView-like technology come to Nokia’s future Windows Phone 7 smartphones instead – we don’t need 41 megapixel quality, but anything greater than the Lumia 800′s 8 megapixel camera would be a huge step in the right direction.

If you head over to Cnet you can get up close and personal with the Nokia 808 PureView, however this will probably rub salt into the wounds of any North American reading this who was hoping to get this smartphone from their preferred carrier.

Will you import the Nokia 808 PureView? Or does the potential price tag worry you? Also what’s your view on it running Symbian Belle?

If you are a Facebook user you have probably used the social network’s chat functionality in the past. To say this particular feature was temperamental at times would be an understatement, that’s why we’re especially delighted to confirm that the official Facebook Messenger application for Windows has recently gone live.

You can find out everything you need to know about this new application and download it here, we just installed it on a medium-spec Windows 7 64-bit laptop and on the whole we’re impressed, that said it did crash for us on one occasion and we spotted another couple of bugs and imperfections.

Installation is pretty painless and once installed you should find the program in your computer’s start menu, once you’ve ran the app it will also show up in the notification area of your Windows UI (see below). If you right click on the notification icon you can enable / disable chat sounds, dock the application to the right hand side of the screen, open the app, exit the app, log off or access help. On widescreen resolutions the dock to the right feature is particularly impressive.

As you’d expect, to use the app you will have to sign-in with your Facebook log-in credentials, once signed in you’ll see a list of contacts to chat with (just like you see in Facebook chat when you log into the website) – also there’s a notification area which update’s just like Facebook’s ticker. Below you can see the main user interface, if you chat with someone it opens in a new window, chat with somebody else and the conversation will show in a new tab within this window.

If you minimize the application the notification icon shows a message which tells you that you’ll still see messages and notification while the app runs in the background.

Sadly there are some problems and imperfections, firstly the app once crashed for us (see below), secondly group chat doesn’t work. Other things which didn’t impress us include the fact that there’s no option to remember your log-in credentials and the fact that selecting the ‘Log in’ option from the notification icon’s context menu doesn’t work for us, it just opens a tab in our default web browser telling us that we’re trying to navigate to a website which cannot be found.

All in all we are happy with the Facebook Messenger application, however there is room for improvement which we’re sure will arrive in the near future. If you installed the app and didn’t like it you can uninstall it by following these simple instructions, there’s lots of answers to other common frequent asked questions here.

Have you tried out the new Facebook Messenger application for Windows? If so, have you experienced any problems? Are there any additional features you’d like to see? Let us know below.

PlayStation 3 gamers are currently enduring some frustrating PlayStation Network down time while Sony carries out scheduled maintenance, if all goes to plan in total the outage will last 14 hours – so what time will it be back up for you? That’s the question which we hope to answer in this brief post.

Sony has said that the PlayStation Network should be up and running at 2am PST, therefore we thought we would tell you the times which this equates to around the world, however all the times which we mention are completely reliant on whether Sony manage to stick to the plans which they’ve pledged. So let’s get started:

If you live in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver or anywhere else which comes under the PST (Pacific Standard Time) time zone the PSN should be back up and running at 2:00am, if you’re located somewhere which falls into the Eastern Standard Time zone (places such as New York, Miami and Detroit etc) it should be once again live at 5.00am.

So that’s you folks’ in North America sorted, but what about Europe? Well London residents and everyone else in the UK should be able to access the PSN at 10.00am, carrying on east French and Spanish residents should be online at around 11.00am. Other areas which many of our readers come from include Hong Kong and Sydney, the PSN should go live in these areas at 18.00 and 21.00 respectively.

If you check out this link you can see a complete list of locations around the world and when the PSN should go live – we guess time will tell whether these turn out to be accurate, they should be as long as Sony’s work goes as smoothly as planned.

When did the PlayStation Network come back online for you? (Please remember to state where in the world you signed in from)

Recently Microsoft launched the official Windows 8 Consumer Preview and we’ve noticed that many people are keen to try it out, however there are wrong and right ways of going about this, today we will show you our prefer method – dual-booting.

If you have a spare laptop which you don’t mind formatting, or you have an additional hard drive which you can use you don’t really need to follow our method of dual-booting, however if you’re planning to install the Windows 8 Consumer Preview on a desktop PC / laptop which only has one hard disk drive you’ll want to follow this guide closely.

Prerequisites

Before setting up your dual-boot configuration you need a few things, firstly you need to head over to this page and check to see whether your PC meets the minimum requirements for the version of Windows 8 you want to install (pretty much all Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers should run it just fine). For the 32-bit version you need at least a 1GHz processor, 1GB or RAM and 16GB of free space, whilst the 64-bit version requires at least a 1GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 20GB of free space. No-matter what version you choose to install you need a GPU which is DirectX 9 compliant or higher.

Once you’re sure that your computer is beefy enough to run Windows 8 you’ll need a second partition to install it on. Most laptops these days come with a single hard disk with two partitions, this second partition is essential for this particular dual-boot configuration. Luckily for me the Toshiba laptop which I’m using has just this, as you can see below there is a ‘C:’ and a ‘D:’, the ‘D’ drive is where I’ll be installing Windows 8, you should be doing the same. If you only have a ‘C’ drive you’ll have to setup a second partition manually, this is easy, but requires a partition tool such as Partition Magic or EASEUS Partition Master 9.1.0 – the latter can be downloaded here, realistically you should make the secondary partition at least 20GB in size, but I would recommend 30GB+.

Now that you are sure you meet the hardware requirements you must download the correct ISO file and burn it to disc. Downloads vary between 2.5GB and 3.3GB depending on the edition you choose, but all editions can be located here. You must also write down the following product key: DNJXJ-7XBW8-2378T-X22TX-BKG7J – I took a photo of this with my smartphone to ensure I didn’t get it wrong. Once your download is complete (it may take some time) you need to burn the file to a blank DVD using a program like ImgBurn. Once complete shutdown your computer ensuring that the newly created disc is in the drive.

Installation

Installation time varies depending on your computer’s hardware, it took me about 25-35 minutes, but allow 1 hour just in case. The first thing you need to do is boot from the DVD (not into your current Windows installation), you may have to configure the BIOS to allow this or press a key such as ‘F8′, ‘F10′ or ‘F12′ to select you boot device – when you’ve done this correctly you should hear your DVD drive spinning rapidly and see text reading something like ‘Press any key to boot from CD or DVD…’, simple press a key on the keyboard and your PC will begin booting from the Windows 8 disc – you should then see a little image showing a fish blowing bubbles.

After some time you will see a screen asking you to choose the correct language, time, currency and keyboard setting – do this and then click next. The next screen allows you to choose from two options, you need to choose ‘Install Now’ – wait a few minutes and then you will have to enter the product key which you jotted down earlier – type this in carefully and click next when done, if it fails it means you’ve made an error. The code is: DNJXJ-7XBW8-2378T-X22TX-BKG7J.

You will then be asked to agree license terms, read these if you want and tick the box and click next to continue. The next step is the most important, you must choose ‘Custom Install’ not ‘Upgrade’ – select this and you will see a list of partitions where Windows 8 can be installed – you want to install it on the secondary partition which we spoke about earlier (D:). Select this partition and click next, the installation process will now begin and you’ll have to wait a while for files to be copied and features to be installed etc.

After some time your computer will restart and Windows 8 will begin, you’ll have to carry out some straight-forward setup and you’ll soon be seeing the beatiful Windows 8 UI – congratulations you’ve successfully dual-booted Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

Summary

From now on when you turn on your computer you’ll see a boot selection screen where you can choose between Windows 8 and the other operating system(s) you have installed (see below), you can also configure more advanced settings if you wish to do so. Hopefully this brief guide helped you successfully, if not please leave your comments below and we’ll do our best to help you.

If there’s one thing PlayStation 3 owners hate it’s PSN downtime, well today we have a little bit of good news for you as Sony has officially announced that the 14 hours of planned maintenance which was scheduled to take place on March 1st has been postponed.

Sony used Twitter to reveal this news and we’ve embedded the tweet from the official PlayStation Twitter below. This was tweeted less than an hour ago (at the time of publishing this brief article) and as you can see no reason has been given for the cancellation, but it does clearly suggest that they will be rescheduling the maintenance.

Update: Tomorrow’s scheduled PSN maintenance has been postponed. We’ll update everyone once it’s rescheduled. Until then, game on.

— PlayStation (@PlayStation) March 1, 2012

Ever since Sony’s nightmare of a situation in mid-2011, where the PlayStation Network went down for a considerable amount of days, we’ve seen Sony voluntarily take down the network multiple times to take carry out maintenance. Don’t get us wrong it’s great to see Sony’s team taking a proactive approach to PSN stability and security, however we have to say that the downtime this causes is an annoyance to say the least.

We raised our concerns over the frequent PSN downtime in a recent article which can be seen here. Basically we think that Sony’s next-generation console would benefit greatly from less frequent outages, something which Microsoft seem to have gotten right with the Xbox 360.

As we hear of a new date for the maintenance we will keep you posted, for now make the most of the PlayStation Network while it’s live and share what plans you had made to keep yourself entertained while the PSN was supposed to be down.

Every so often Apple refresh its line of iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini mini models to give consumers a reason to upgrade and stay competitive with top-end Windows offerings. Usually prices stay the same but specifications improve due to decreases in component cost and advances in technology – however there is something which is delaying the next Apple offerings, this is Intel’s Ivy Bridge platform.

Every current-gen iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini model available from the Apple store utilizes one of Intel’s second-generation Core processors (aka Sandy Bridge), this platform will be superseded by the Ivy Bridge platform and it makes no sense to release any new Apple desktop / MacBook models until Intel launch this new platform – we’ve now heard (from SlashGear) that Ivy Bridge chips won’t ship until June.

The new delay was confirmed by Sean Maloney (Intel’s vice-president and chairman of Intel China), he didn’t have a lot to say on the matter but suggested that the delay was not due to lack of demand, instead it was related to the manufacturing process which is undertaken when manufacturing these new smaller chips.

This has a direct affect on Apple’s 2012 release plans as Apple will want to give its next-gen products all the benefits which the Ivy Bridge platform brings (mainly lower power consumption and more processing power). In 2011 Apple refreshed its MacBook Pro (February 24), iMac (May 3), MacBook Air (July 20) and Mac mini (July 20) models with Sandy Bridge processors, therefore we half expected a similar release pattern this year, however now Apple has to wait longer than expected for Ivy Bridge processors to ship before they can manufacturer products which utilize them developers will have to optimize software and firmware to get the most out of the new platform.

Putting an exact date on Apple’s 2012 refreshes is impossible, however it will be worth the wait as Intel’s new 22nm process and 3D Tri-Gate transistors should ensure that next-gen models have processors which perform 37% faster than their predecessors whilst consuming up to 50% less power.

If you check out our previous article you can see a full spec sheet listing all the Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor offerings which we know about so far. It’s worth noting that the i3 options don’t boast the advanced Intel technologies or PCIe 3.0 support which the more expensive chips will offer, so take this into consideration if you plan on buying a system or building a PC with a Core i3 Ivy Bridge CPU.

Will you wait for an Ivy Bridge Mac, rather than but one within the next few months?
