I am pleased to announce that Kyle has agreed to join the Talldude Networks team in a full time position as a Jamroom Developer!

Many of you have known Kyle for some time, as he has always provided a lot of help here on the Jamroom User Support forums, and "officially" his role was forum and ticket support. He also would occassionaly take on a Jamroom related project for a customer.

Over the last few years, Kyle has rapidly progressed in his knowledge of web development, especially PHP programming, and I'm super excited to have him joining in now as a full time developer. Kyle will be initially working with me on the upcoming Jamroom 4.1, as well as bug fixes and general PHP support for all projects (Jamroom and add-ons + modules).

Thank you (and congratulations) Kyle!

Jamroom Mobile Module 1.0.0 has been released!

I have just updated the Jamroom Marketplace with the first non-beta release of the Jamroom Mobile Module - version 1.0.0:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_market&o=browse&category=Jamroom+4+Modules

This new release contains a single bug fix, plus a new feature:
[list:36a9ae3e11]
[*:36a9ae3e11]the jrMobile module was incorrectly counting the "streams" from mobile devices as downloads - this has been fixed.
[*:36a9ae3e11]a new "agents.php" file has been included that allows you to add/remove USER_AGENT strings from the module. The USER_AGENT string is what the module uses to allow/deny access to the module for mobile devices and non-mobile devices, so this gives the site owner the flexibility to allow or deny additional handsets, etc.
[/list:u:36a9ae3e11]
If anyone has any questions about this initial release, please let us know. If you have suggestions for improvements to the module, please feel free to post in the Suggestions forum, and we'll check it out.

I hope you enjoy using the new release!

p.s. for those that have not picked up a copy of the Jamroom Mobile module, until the end of the month (June) it will be 10% off the normal price of $39 - you can pick it up until then for only $35.

Jamroom 4.0.13 has been released - important!

I have just finished updating the Jamroom Downloads page:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

with the latest release of Jamroom + add ons, version 4.0.13.

I apologize for this release coming out so quickly, but it was important that this be handled today, due to a serious licensing dispute between us and the developer of the Jeroen FLV media player. Specifically they have informed us that the unlimited commercial license we purchased a year ago is no longer valid for the version 4.x of the player, and it would need to be removed from our product. I disagree with their assertion that it does not cover version 4 of the player, but that's something that we will take care of. As it is, [b:a9bd318a1f]going forward we will no longer be supporting the use of the Jeroen version 4 player in Jamroom.[/b:a9bd318a1f] Even if we were to somehow acquire a license for version 4 of the player, it will not be included into Jamroom due to their treatment of us as a customer.

I am working hard to find a new (better) flash player that will be used in Jamroom to replace the Jeroen 4 player.

As it is, the Nova and JamTube skins have been updated to use the Jeroen 3 player - once we fully integrate a new player into Jamroom, they will again be updated to support the new player.

I want to apologize to everyone for the hassle that this might cause you, but I believe it is the best in the long run for Jamroom, and the new player we are currently looking at appears to be more flexible and powerful then the Jeroen player, and in the long run will suit us better.

[b:a9bd318a1f]important[/b:a9bd318a1f] - if you are currently using the Jeroen 4 flash player on your site, and want to continue doing so, you will need to purchase a Commercial license for your domain from longtail video. As much as I regret sending any business their way, my primary concern is for your site and business, and I want to let you know that this would be required to continue using the Jeroen 4 FLV player. The Jeroen 3 FLV player included in the Jamroom Power Pack is fully licensed, and can be used without any compensation to long tail video.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to let me know, and I will do my best to answer them. At this time I don't think it would be prudent to discuss any of the details of their accusations other then to say I am 100% confident they are false.

Thanks everyone!

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

This new release brings in several new features, as well as dozens of fixes and small changes:
[list:719bccd776]
[*:719bccd776]9 new image filters have been included: http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=view&id=1491
[*:719bccd776]new "Mode Hooks" for Jamroom module developers has been introduced (documentation in the Module Developer Guide is forthcoming)
[*:719bccd776]a new PHP Profiler system for module developers has been included: http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=view&id=1480
[*:719bccd776]The Nova community forum now has direct URLs to topics - it no longer loads via AJAX
[*:719bccd776]The Nova skin config (Nova.cfg) has been udpated with new settings to make it easy to change to a different Flash player, as well as manipulate the colors of the Jeroen flash player.
[*:719bccd776]The Page Protect tool now works across cluster servers
[*:719bccd776]Profile themes now load the proper skin config file even if the associated skin is not the "active" skin - this should allow for better mixing and matching of profile themes and skins (i.e. I'm hopeful you can now use the Nova profile theme with a different skin, etc.)

Plus a lot more tweaks and bug fixes. Check out the Jamroom Tracker for a full list of changes:

This new module allows you to get the approximate location of the viewing user based on a lookup of their IP Address. The module is super easy to install (simply unzip it into your Jamroom directory), and once installed you'll have access to a new Template function called {jr_geo_locate}:

This new releases addresses a few bugs and has a small number of changes in it as well. The 2 main reasons that 4.0.10 is being released a bit earlier then normal are:
[list:ca43b86079]
[*:ca43b86079]There is a vault bug that affects some systems, and it causes the vault item to become "unlinked" from the media item. This has been fixed in 4.0.10, and I wanted to be sure new installs had this fix in it: http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=view&id=1458

I wanted to post a quick announcement to let everyone know that the first [b:9fffb5b142]beta release[/b:9fffb5b142] of the "Jamroom Mobile" module has been released:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_market&o=browse&category=Jamroom+4+Modules

right now you can get it at a reduced price during the beta period, as I'm hoping to get feedback from users on how it works (I don't have access to dozens of mobile devices here). Right now it really has been designed for the iPhone/iPod Touch, and Opera MiniBrowser - other phones MIGHT work, but it has not been designed to handle those yet.

One thing that is exciting about the Jamroom Mobile module is that it brings REAL streaming to the mobile device - not simply downloading/playing, so even large songs will start right up on the device.

Also - this module is planned to receive an additional feature that we're not ready to announce yet, as it is still in the development stage at this time. All I can say at this point is that it will involve an iPhone/iPod touch application that will utilize a network of Jamroom sites, so if that sounds interesting to you, we'll be picking our beta launch partners from those that pick up the Jamroom Mobile add-on during this beta phase.

[b:9fffb5b142]IMPORTANT[/b:9fffb5b142]: the Jamroom Mobile module utilizes the Nova skin, so please make sure you have the [b:9fffb5b142]Nova skin installed[/b:9fffb5b142] on your site. It does not need to be your active skin, but it needs to be installed in your Jamroom. Support has been added to the module to allow for additional mobile skins in the future, but for now only Nova is supported.

If anyone has any feedback, please feel free to let me know. We'll be working on this module over the next month and working in ideas/features from the beta users.

Thanks!

The Jamroom 4 Core downloads page has been updated with the latest release of Jamroom 4 (version 4.0.8 ):

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

I know this is coming very fast after the release of Jamroom 4.0.7, but additional reports of users not being able to log into there Jamroom were continuing to come in - these are due to the session changes that were part of Jamroom 4.0.7:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=view&id=1422

An issue with this change was identified and fixed in Jamroom 4.0.8:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=view&id=1430

If you have been having any login issues with Jamroom 4.0.7, upgrading to Jamroom 4.0.8 should fix them.

There are also a couple of other changes and fixes in 4.0.8 as well:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=browse&v=4.0.8

Normally we wouldn't get a new release out so fast after the 4.0.7 release, but in order to cut down on the number of users experiencing log in issues, it was decided to release this update sooner rather then later.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to post here or in the Help forum.

Thanks everyone!

I have just finished updating the Jamroom 4 Core downloads page with the latest release of Jamroom 4 - version 4.0.7. This new releases addresses bugs that have cropped up since the 4.0.6 releases, as well as adds some new features and changes - most notably:
[list:dde4ff6a1e]
[*:dde4ff6a1e]The image.php script has been heavily optimized, and as a result is many, many times faster in Jamroom 4.0.7 then it is in any previous release of Jamroom. For sites that are showing a lot of images, this is going to really speed up the display of images in your Jamroom.
[*:dde4ff6a1e]The Jamroom sessions have been updated to have a "backup" session ID to hopefully help with users that have issues maintaining a session in your Jamroom (notably users using IE and those accessing your site through a proxy server).
[*:dde4ff6a1e]Several issues were fixed in the Promo Codes, which should work a lot more "reliably" now.
[/list:u:dde4ff6a1e]

For a full list of changes, make sure and check out the Jamroom tracker:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=browse&v=4.0.7

Also - I have made some changes to the Changeset Generator:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Change

basically if you are updating from Jamroom 3.x to 4, you'll want to select the version that is for your Jamroom minor release - i.e. if you are updating from Jamroom 3.3.4 to Jamroom 4.0.7, you would select the "Jamroom 3.3.x" changeset. This makes it much easier (and faster) to generate the full changesets on our end, which is a lengthy process, since we only need to generate 1 changeset for each of the Jamroom 3.x branches.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to post on this thread, or if you encounter a Jamroom issue, please open a post in the Help forum.

I hope you enjoy the new release!

The Jamroom 4 Core downloads page has been updated with the latest release of Jamroom + add ons - version 4.0.6:

 http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

This new release addresses the issues that have come up since Jamroom 4.0.5, so check out the Jamroom Tracker for a full list of changes:

 http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=browse&v=4.0.6

Most of the changes are small bug fixes and tweaks, but there's one that can really help out on a busy site - the download.php script has been optimized in how it "reads" a file off the disk on your server - this has resulted in significantly less memory usage then the download.php script found in 4.0.5 and older. Depending on the size of the file being downloaded, the old download.php script would use up to 6-7mb of memory, while the new version uses ~300Kb, so it's a very large reduction. If you have A LOT of downloading on your site, this can significantly reduce memory usage.

If anyone has any questions or issues with this new release, please feel free to post to the Help forum and we'll help out there ;)

I hope you enjoy the new release!

The Jamroom 4 Core downloads page has been updated with the latest release of Jamroom 4 - version 4.0.5. Continuing with the weekly releases, this new releases address the issues that have come up since the Jamroom 4.0.4 release, as well as changes a couple of things:
[list:4d3be1b510]
[*:4d3be1b510]The image.php script has been updated to use a new "crop_height" offset value, which should result in less images having the top of the image cropped too low. The image.php script has also been updated to NOT crop "default images", so if your default image has some type of text on it, it will no longer be cropped out. make sure and reset all of your image caches from the Jamroom Tools -> Reset Caches section to bring in the new changes.
[*:4d3be1b510]The "settings" section for a Skin Config has been updated, and now will have "help" messages to assist in knowing what the setting changes. This is accomplished by using the "comment" in the skin config file that directly precedes the setting as the "help" text.

For a full list of changes in 4.0.5, make sure and check out the tracker:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=browse&v=4.0.5

If you are running any release of Jamroom 4, this is a recommended upgrade.

If anyone has any issues, please feel free to post them to the Jamroom Help forum - if the issue is confirmed as a bug, we'll move it into the Bugs forum.

I hope you all enjoy the new release!

The JamDev Virtual Machine has been released!

With the release of Jamroom 4, Jamroom no longer supports Windows as an install platform. While this has made things easier at a code level (no more having to work around Windows issues and limitations), it has caused a small issue with many of you that were using Windows-based installations of Jamroom for testing and development. Since Jamroom no longer would function properly in a XAMPP install, something was needed to make it so you could test and develop Jamroom on your local PC.

So with that in mind, I've put together the "JamDev Virtual Machine" - this is a small Linux server that runs directly "inside" Windows (or Linux). It requires the VMWare Player application to "play" it, but once running it offers you a full Linux server with the latest Apache, PHP, MySQL, FTP and web control panel.

I've put a new document online that covers installing and using the JamDev Virtual Machine:

http://www.jamroom.net/Jamroom4_JamDev_Virtual_Machine

so please make sure and read it if you plan on using it. Note that we CANNOT support VMWare Player issues - if you cannot get the VMWare Player to run on your PC, I'd recommend using a JBServers Sandbox hosting account instead, as we have no control over VMWare Player issues.

This new setup should make a really nice small development environment for running and testing Jamroom changes and modules.

Let me know if there are any questions - I hope you enjoy using the new JamDev VM!

Thanks!

Jamroom 4.0.3 has been released!

I have just finished updating the Jamroom4 Core downloads page with the latest release of Jamroom 4 - version 4.0.3:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

This new release contains quite a number of template bug fixes, as well as some new features and additions in the Nova theme. There are also fixes for a number of bugs that have cropped up since 4.0.2, and anyone running any version of Jamroom 4 is encouraged to upgrade.

I'm hopeful that the number of issues coming in is going to decrease over the next week, as many of the small issues are being wrapped up - however, I'll continue to release new updates on a (mostly) weekly basis until the issues are fixed. I know some of you would rather wait longer between updates, but I think it is important to get the new releases out as it cuts down on the number of issues that are seen on a new install, as well as for those that are updating.

For those of you already running Jamroom 4, upgrading using the Change sets is easy, but I want to re-iterate an important point:

[b:c3e925ea90]When upgrading, you need to be sure to upgrade ALL OF YOUR ADD ONS TOO![/b:c3e925ea90]

This seems to be a recurring issue, where users are only upgrading the "Core", and then failing to upgrade their add ons as well to the same version. this is VERY important, otherwise your system is not going work right, or will behave "weird". I'm looking into ways to make this be a non-issue from a technical standpoint, but until then, please make sure that you are updating all your Jamroom add ons at the same time you upgrade the Jamroom Core.

For a full list of changes in Jamroom 4.0.3, please make sure and check out the Jamroom Tracker:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=browse

I hope you enjoy using the new release!

Thanks!

I have just finished updating the Jamroom4 Core downloads page with the latest release of Jamroom 4 - version 4.0.2:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

This new release addresses several issues that have come up since the 4.0.1 release, most importantly it fixes template issues that relate to running both the Nova and JamTube profile themes on a cluster server. There are also some new features in the Jamroom 4.0.2 release:
[list:97808b2a3d]
[*:97808b2a3d]Jamroom media ad counters - audio ads in your radio stations and video ads in your channels are now counted for each listen/view, and the counts (along with history) are available in the Ad Manager section of the Modify Station/Channel section.
[*:97808b2a3d]Jamroom now support using the "ReCaptcha" captcha system - it has been integrated into all the skins except Nova (due to the AJAX nature of the signup form it does not work in Nova).
[*:97808b2a3d]a new Template variable modifier called "jr_html_autolinks" has been included that will convert embedded URLs into clickable links.
[/list:u:97808b2a3d]
For a full list of changes, check out the Jamroom Tracker:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=browse&v=4.0.2

Anyone using the Nova or JamTube profile themes on a cluster server is encouraged to upgrade.

If anyone has any issues with 4.0.2, please let us know.

I hope you enjoy the new release!

Thanks!

Jamroom.net Updates

I wanted to post a quick update to some recent changes on Jamroom.net, and figured I'd start a sticky post where updates can be posted when they happen.

[list:74ae522086]
[*:74ae522086]I just rolled out a change in the Jamroom 4 Core Downloads section - if you do not have a valid Jamroom 4 Core license, all of the add-on downloads will now be locked. Once you have entered a valid Jamroom 4 license, then any Jamroom 3 licensed add-ons you have will be automatically unlocked as well. I'm hopeful this will prevent confusion about running the Jamroom 4 add ons on a Jamroom 3 core (i.e. without a Jamroom 4 license).

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

[*:74ae522086]There is also an updated FAQ (for those that may not have checked for a long time):

http://www.jamroom.net/FAQ

that brings the most requested FAQs to the top.

[*:74ae522086]There is also an ongoing process to update a lot of the documentation, so check out the documentation RSS feeds if you'd like to stay up to date with the latest doc changes:

If anyone has any questions or sees any issues, please feel free to post here.

Thanks!
