The Fall and your skin.
It happens every year – we pack away our shorts and summer dresses and it feels good to pull out the sweaters and jeans. But don’t forget that just because our warmer clothes cover our skin, it doesn’t mean you can take a vacation from your skin care regimen. Good skin care means the difference between healthy skin and dry flaky, irritated skin.
Here are a few tips to help you on your way to a more “skin comfortable” winter….

1. Reassess your body cleanser. For winter, I prefer to get rid of drying gels, harsh soaps and move into a soothing, moisturizing shower gel such as my Jane Gee Orange Blossom Shower Gel. Any of our luscious organic soaps “by the slice” will work because they are organic, creamy and kind to the skin. The Orange Blossom Shower Gel is even more gentle on sensitive skin.

2. Start Body Brushing. If you don’t already use a body brush, it’s important to start now. This simple act will stimulate lymph flow, exfoliate, clean your skin and prepare it for nourishment. We have perfect brushes for body brushing at all prices and sizes. Even sensitive skin should be brushed!

3. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize. I can’t emphasize this enough. I suggest a lotion that hydrates and “treats” the skin. Olive Oil, Wild Oats and Honey, or Pink Grapefruit – these all natural, full of essential oils and carrier oils are designd to nourish and soothe for heathy, comfortable skin.

Come on into the store and try a few samples. See what works best for you.

Remember: Healthy Skin is Beautiful Skin

See this as the greatest oppportunity you have to reinvent yourself. Become who you really are. Ask yourself this question daily. How do i feel right now. Do i want to feel this way and if not Choose not to….choose joy everytime, every day..practice makes perfect.

How to look good and feel great throughout your pregnancy.

Not only will your body change shape but your skin can do some strange things when pregnant.

· Acne

· Hyper pigmentation

· Super dry or super oily

Whatever your skin decides to do you can learn to mange the challenges ahead.

Have your skin diagnosed professionally at the onset of your pregnancy so you can be prepared for the hormonal changes ahead

It is even more important to eat well, get enough rest etc, but I am sure you will have that covered pretty quickly but do not neglect your skin at this very important time in your life.

Some common problems experienced during pregnancy :

Acne/breakouts – you may need to change your existing products to match your new skin. Manuka honey is a great natural and safe for mother and baby. This can be taken orally or applied topically works fantastically. Use a gentle cleanser one that wont strip your skin of vital oils or irritate sensitive skin ,protect with a good moisturizer and feed your skin with essential oils designed for your skin condition. Don’t use a scrub or a toner these items will only make your skin worse.

Pimples or breakouts on the body are also common especially in the second stage of pregnancy.

Use a mild non soap body wash, don’t pick or scratch – and treat with Manuka honey or Manuka acne cream . A good essential oil solution designed for acne would be great! This could be a good time to start body brushing.

Dry skin on face or body with hormonal changes you may experience itchy sensitive skin, or even dry patches on the face and body.

What you again will have to look at is what are you washing your skin with. Avoid hot showers foaming or soap cleansers and start using a hydrating serum (I can custom make one for you) Body brus to give skin a healthy glow and to stimulate lymphatic drainage. Hydrate with a lotion that feeds your skin. Don’t over do anything . A good preventative cream for stretch marks is good calendula is good for this.

Pigmentation Due to stimulation of hormones this can stimulate pigmentation cells. It is very important to wear protective clothing in sunlight, avoid to much glare off computer screens, halogen lightening as these stimulate pigment cells and can help darken pigmentation. Avoid overexposure to sunlight and use a spf30 plus sunscreen.

A solution of helicrhysum and rose hip seed oil has been known to reduce hyper – pigmentation post pregnancy.

The most common places for pigmentation is the face but for most it fades after birth.

Skin Tags –Some women get a proliferation of skin tags during pregnancy they are tiny raised skin bits or tags that normally occur on arms, neck, under arms and breast as well as eyes and chest. Sounds great doesn’t it, they can be removed safely with laser. Don’t pick at them as they can bleed rather profusely.

Irritated hands and Feet – strangely enough your feet and hands can get red, itchy and inflamed. This is common when estrogen levels rise.

Avoid scrubbing, hot water and stimulating detergents. A good anti inflammatory serum or Manuka honey will fix the problem!

This is a time when you might like to have that facial you have been putting off and get some good sound advice. Remember to use good, natural ,organic where possible products on your skin. This is very important – more so when pregnant.

Please email us for further skin advice. jane@janegee.com 6034310335

Till next time take care and enjoy this lovely time in your life.

How or why does skin age?
I get asked this question on a regular basis, I am not sure I have all the answers but here is what I know.

After the age of 25 the collagin and elastin (the cushioning in our skin) breaks down so the natural support fibres lessens.
Other factors that contribute to ageing are:
Stress (no secret here)
Sun exposure
Age ( not a big secret either)
Weather and environmental factors
Ill health
Moisture loss
bad diet
smoking – no big surprises..i almost forgot…the wrong skin care products !!!!!!!!!
All of these conditions contribute to the skins metabolism to slow down the cellular exchange that naturally occurs every 7 to 8 days the skin becomes sluggish and the skins efficacy is impaired. Fatty acids and calcium are lost within the skin. It is these changes in the epidermal layer and dermal layer of the skin that contribute to ageing.
My suggestion is to hydrate and feed your skin with natural botanicals. That is clays, essential oils and carrier oils, as organic and natural as you can get them! A good combination of the following will combat the ageing process. A good moisturizer, serum and sunscreen, some mineral salts and nourishing clays will give your skin everything it needs. Lets not neglect food and water …good nutrition!! It always helps.
Have your skin checked twice per year by a good skin care practiioner for a full diagnosis. This will help you to stay on track and know how to care for your skin on a daily basis.
You check your car in for a service your body in annually so why not a skin care professional. This will save your skin and your wallet!!
Sun protection is an important aide to younger looking skin. Wear a hat and protect as often as you can.
Your skin will appreciate the extra effort you put in, and everyone will notice a difference! Look after your largest organ – “YOUR SKIN”

We love apple cider vinegar baths and here are a few reasons why…

Apple cider vinegar baths can restore a natural pH level to the skin and hair, as well as rejuvenating and building up the body’s natural resistance.

It helps restore acid mantle protection to the skin, which is lost from swimming and from routine use of soaps on the skin.

It helps combat “unfriendly” bacteria, fungal overgrowth, and is helpful with vaginal and bladder infections.

Apple cider vinegar baths are soothing to the skin, alleviating itchiness, poison ivy, and sunburn discomfort.

As with all hot baths, it causes the pores to open and aids in general systemic detoxification.

Make certain to use pure, unprocessed apply cider vinegar, and use 2-4 cups in a hot bath.-Jane

Dead sea salts
1. Dead Sea Salt contains 10 times more minerals than ordinary sea salt, minerals which assist in cleansing, detoxifying and restoring a healthy status quo to the body, especially the skin and muscles.
2. Dead Sea Salts are very dry and absorb essential oils with ease, enabling the oils to be easily released into the bath water as the salts dissolve. This is beneficial for those wishing to experience the benefits of Dead Sea salt and aromatherapy in the privacy of their own home.
Minerals and naturally occurring chemicals found in the Dead Sea:
Sulfur is necessary for the secretion of bile from the liver and for converting toxins into non-toxins. Sulfur is found in the amino acids cysteine, and methionine; as well as in cells, hemoglobin (of the blood), collagen (of the muscles), keratin (required for skin), insulin, heparin, biotin and co-enzyme A (required for healthy hair, skin, nails, among many other biological structures). Sulfur is necessary for synthesizing collagen. It is required for the adequate digestion and absorption of carbohydrates and a number of vitamins e.g. thiamin, biotin and pantothenic acid; It is also essential to enable cells to breathe.
Chlorine is necessary to maintain the correct balance of alkaline and acid in the body, together with being vital for cell metabolism
Iodine is necessary for the production of the hormone thyroxin, and is also vital for both energy and cell metabolism
Potassium is necessary to maintain the water balance in order for cell metabolism to take place, assisting the cells to absorb nourishment and expel waste products. An imbalance in potassium often leads to water retention. Potassium also plays a vital role in regulating muscle contractions and the nervous system.
Sodium, like potassium, plays a vital role in assisting the cells to absorb nourishment and expel waste.
Calcium is necessary in strengthening cell membranes and cleansing the pores. In addition it is vital for production and maintenance of healthy teeth and bones, together with regulating the heart muscles and nerves.
Magnesium is necessary in assisting the body to utilize other essential nutrients and in cell metabolism.
Bromine helps with the natural repair of the body together with cell metabolism and can be used as a natural antibiotic.

Wrinkles, here is some info that may answer your questions…..
the following are a few factors that may cause wrinkling:
accumulated exposure to the sun,
heredity, and a weakening of elastin and collagen, which is part of the aging process.
Elastin is responsible for the skin’s flexibility. The protein fibers known as collagen provide physical support for the skin. (Loss of collagen is more common in women than in men. The skin’s natural fatty layer also reduces with age, causing the skin to sink inward. Added to all these factors is the constant pull of gravity, which increases the sagging of the skin.
Research into the benefits of minerals from the Dead Sea Salt has shown a 40% reduction in the depth of the wrinkling.
A lack of nutrition (blood getting to all cells) can cause wrinkles. We use cinnamon to bring blood up to the cells of the skin..this feeds the skin, nourishing and stimulating the cells for a better healthier looking skin!

Just got back from NYC, wet slushy streets and cold weather not a lot of fun! However i spent 2 days at a trade show, tiring ,yes but we met some fabulous people doing fabulous things. As you all know i am interested in fair trade companies and i had the pleasure of meeting some interesting companies assisitng women all over the world, to make a living and raise their standard of living. I also met a great group of women helping local women, single mothers, immigrants and those needing assistance in some form or other, here in the united states. This group makes bracelets with a message. I wish i was a jewelry store!
We have decided to support a group from ethiopia. I have purchased the most amazing scarves hand woven cotton in subtle colors absolutely exquisite. We also have some raw silk scarves in bright jewel tones these have a great price point and should be in the store by March April.
So i am tired, but it was good to meet the many organizations helping people all over the world. So many good and deserving groups. I met a wonderful woman who supports haitian artists and families making wonderful bowls from mango wood. I have no doubt they will be extremely successful.
I took Sophie down with me, she is as many of you know a business major and what a great experience for her to see how things are done. We enjoyed our time together but it was tiring!
dont forget to come in to the store for valentines shopping lots of lovely soaps, lotions, scarves and gorgeous gifts. We look forward to seeing you all soosn.
