Who says "Bigger is Better"?

Bigger is not always Better!

Americans tend to want everything BIG! Big houses, big cars, big sandwiches....(Okay, get your mind out of the gutter!) ...and big cruise ships. But is "Bigger really Better?" I think when people put an emphasis on wanting something "Bigger", they loose sight of the special qualities that make "smaller" things amazing. For example:

Expedition vs Porsche

Mansion vs Small Cottage by the sea

Boeing 747 vs Brazillian Jet

Big Mac vs Sliders

Hot Dog w/the Works vs the Cocktail Weenie

Get my point? Small things are just as special (if not MORE) than Bigger things...it just depends on what you want to get out of it. Cruise Ships are the same. Sure, GINORMOUS Cruise Ships such as Royal Caribbean's "Oasis of the Seas", Celebrity's Solstice or NCL's "Epic" do offer amazing options. The size of the ship is enticing, and they really are incredible.

I have often said to friends that "If someone goes on a Super Size Cruise Ship and doesn't have a good time, they must be a drag... because there is something to please everyone". Entertainment, dining, sports, shopping, gambling, spa & more! So easy to have fun, relax and do whatever you want. The Newest, Biggest Cruise Ships are definitely awesome. But what about the smaller ships?

At one time, THEY were the Biggest & Best. Now considered "Small" and "Older", do they stand up to the task of impressing guests? (Again, Keep that mind out of the gutter!) I say "Absolutely!" Smaller ships offer the same activities that Bigger ships offer & many attributes that larger ships don't. In fact, smaller ships actually go overboard (no pun intended) to impress guests. One big plus - Service tends to be a bit more intimate (bartenders & waiters know your name & your favorites!) and special. And Cruise Lines do pamper the "Old Girls" with facelifts to keep them young and fresh, while retaining the classic style we know and love. Some of my favorites - "The Celebrity Century", Royal Caribbean's "Majesty of the Seas" & "Grandeur of the Seas" & The "Sun Princess". I have sailed on these ships many times before and each time more impressive then the last!

So, don't be fooled by the size of the ship, after all, Small Ships stand right up to the Big Ships, offering a slightly different, but equally impressive vacation experience!

"I've Had Enough of Carry-on Luggage!"

In case you are one of the 10 people in America that hasn't heard of the Flight Attendant who just "Had Enough", let me update...

Steven Slater, a 38 year old Jet Blue flight attendant, decided "enough is enough" after his flight landed at JFK Airport on Monday. Slater cursed the passenger (dropping the "F bomb" 3 times) over the intercom, grabbed beers from the galley, deployed the emergency slide and walked away from the plane!

Although stories about exactly what happened change by the minute ( 2 women fought over storage bins space resulting in Slater getting hit on the head & a woman passenger who was forced to check her bag was enraged upon landing that her bag was not immediately available and proceeded to curse him)... I can just imagine what happened, because I have seen it hundreds of times! It all comes down to CARRY-ON LUGGAGE!

Air travel has changed. Years ago everyone checked their bags and overhead space was used for blankets and pillows (luxuries long forgotten on planes) and the occasional SMALL carry-on bag used by the consummate business traveler. I believe that passengers began carrying on ALL of their luggage in an effort to shorten travel experience (not having to wait for the baggage handlers to deliver the baggage in typical union style "snail delivery").

The amount of luggage brought aboard planes has created many issues, along with a lot of stress. Ridiculously long boarding times add to the frustration. (I would rather wait at the baggage terminal then have to board a plane and sit for an extra 45 minutes!)

I have sat on planes as many flights board and watched how passengers behave as they heave luggage and squeeze the bags into the overhead bins. One thing I have noticed is that passengers in the rear often store their luggage in the bins in the front of the plane (for ease when they exit). Common sense will tell you that this will inevitably cause an issue when the passengers who are sitting in the front actually board last and there is no room for their carry-on and they are forced to check their bag.

I have often mentioned it to the flight attendants, who could easily solve the issue by making sure that everyone stores bags above their own seat. But I have never had a flight attendant actually make that effort. So, I watch and wait for the inevitable angry passenger.

Let's face it, we are not all friends on that plane. Each passenger is only interested in making their own life easier. Like a bunch of children in a classroom. But kids have rules in class. They cannot just drop their backpacks anywhere, they cannot just skip the line, they cannot speak rudely to the teacher and they have to be respectful of each other. Like teachers, flight attendants should be there to make sure that the rules are followed that best benefit the whole group. I know it is more work for them, but in the end would make everything much more pleasant if we KNEW the rules and HAD to follow them.

I understand Slaters frustration. I have met those obnoxious, angry passengers. I have often wanted to stand up and drop the "F bomb" at them and I would have loved to actually hear a flight attendant do it over the intercom! (I actually applaud Slater for not opening the emergency slide and pushing the woman down it!)

But in the end, the Carry-on Luggage is the culprit, the stressor. If the attendants don't make the rules and enforce them rigidly, there will always be stressful situations. I say, either enforce the rules or ban carry-on luggage. It is that simple.

Oh...and by the way, next time passengers are held captive on the tarmac for hours & are enduring extreme frustration...maybe WE should grab a beer and slide off the plane!

Of course, I have always know that. Through some tough times, it has been good friends that have been my rock, my "sounding board", my safety net & my comfort circle.

Good friends are important for your health, even offering a 50% chance of a longer life!

Sometimes I just need to hear that "opposing" opinion to challenge my thoughts and make me think. That is why I personally think it is good to surround yourself with friends that are diverse - different back rounds, political opinions, styles, desires. One thing that is a MUST is that we share the same social values. That is the basis of trusting in their thoughts.

Surround yourself with good friends and live a happy healthy life!

So ask yourself a few questions...

Do you have a BFF?

Is your group of friends diverse?

Am I friends with people who help my mental state or hurt it?

Do I nurture my friendships?

And the biggy.....

Me and My Mac

Me and my Mac....

I really do love my husband. Infact, I really do LIKE him. It is nice that after 15 years and 5 kids (blended family.. I get extra points for that!) that we actually love spending time together! We are very active...we walk, we bike ride, we vacation, have beach days..we really enjoy our time alone. In fact, some people think it is odd that we do spend so much time together. But not us...

Sound perfect? Well, I am going to be honest, we do have one major problem right now...and that is the affair that I am having with my MAC! Difficult because of the time my MAC takes away from our time together.

I love my Mac. I love anything APPLE! I cannot imagine life without my mac. Ohh the things I can do on my MAC!

My husband doesn't understand. He is a PC guy (UGggg). He finds MACs to be complicated, problematic, non-traditional. ME, I find MACs to be inventive, creative, uber useful, inviting, engaging, exciting....I could go on and on!

My affair started a few years ago, when my first MAC came into my life. It was my husbands fault (a birthday gift) and his regret. I instantly became attracted to my MAC and the affair has never stopped. 35,000, 26 movies, 3 Keynote Presentations, 2 businesses, 6 webpages later...I am still looking forward (and excited about) my future with my MAC.

My Husband thought that it was great to get me interested in things...and then came the Macbook Air. That was actually dangerous, because it is so light & fits in my pocketbook and travels with me everywhere! He started feeling left out a bit. He was actually happy when I was beginning to run out of storage space on my AIRBOOK...but THEN i discovered the EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE! My possibilities on my AIRBOOK became endless...now I was not only dragging around my AIRBOOK, but also my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES! (Hey, you never know when you might need it!)

I am not on my second generation of IPHONE which means that even in the situations where I don't have my pocketbook to carry around my AIRBOOK, I am still never without access to my MAC (via my iphone). Will it ever end?

The answer to that question is "I hope not!" I love my affair with my MAC, and do not see any end to it! And my husband...he will just have to understand. Of course, he does get annoyed when he wakes up in the middle of the night and it is in bed with us. Or when we are on a dinner date and he catches using my IPHONE under the table. I guess I should learn to control myself, or I will NEVER get an IPAD! (He told me that is where he is drawing the line! LOL)

SHHHhhhh....I will keep you posted when I finally get one!

I Might Never Leave This Hotel...

Does "Squatters Rights" apply?

Beautiful summer day in Manhattan. Hubby asks me to drive in to meet him and spend the night (long business hours...) at the Ritz Carlton on Central Park. "I WILL BE THERE IN 45 MINUTES!" I say quietly.....but screaming in my brain! The chance to experience The Ritz, Central Park NYC...I can't get there fast enough. I have read about so many celebrities, dignitaries and politicians staying at the Ritz, so why not me!

So here I am, after being escorted to the lobby "suite" by the kindest Gentleman (Front Desk Receptionist) to await my suite. Okay...I am already pampered and I haven't even entered the room. Actually, if I left right now, I would have great things to say about this hotel...but there is not a chance I am leaving until I experience that room, not after the last half hour of being in the lobby! I almost don't want to go up to the room yet (even though it is ready), similar in the way that I wait to open a gift...anticipation is half the thrill.

But now I am ready..

By the way, I have stayed at the Four Seasons in NYC many times, so when I say this is impressive....I know what I am comparing it to. SO far, the service is "wildy over and above". Is that an appropriate description? It would be if you were sitting here.

Finally made the decision to head up to the room..I MEAN SUITE! After the silent glide up the elevator, and the "OMG! I could live here" reaction to the suite, I am now settled into the comfort of this classic, beige, comfy poofy room. As I sit here, among the traditional decor, I always wonder "Is Buckingham Palace this comfortable? Because, the traditional decor of Buckingham Palace is so NOT comfortable looking! But this is.

Of course, the bathroom was my first stop (I AM a girl) and I think it has the most amazing marble I have ever seen. It looks like soft, swirly, caramel ice cream. Beautiful. Bathroom amenities...Yes, I have everything I need and more AND top notch!

Comparable to the Four Seasons...Different. Service is definitely better (which makes EVERYTHING BETTER!). Room is comparable but styled differently. Bathroom is absolutely awesome in both.

Well, I have been here for 2 hours. I have a huge smile on my face. About to climb in the shower to get ready for dinner at Scotto's. Life is good at the Ritz Carlton.

A Perfect Fathers Day for MOM!

A year ago, my son Colin Louro(center) moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream in movie production. Yep, he moved 3000 miles away from all of us. Am I sad, actually not! Just like when they all went off to college, I am excited for him and the future that is in store for him. And hey, after all, it is a nice place to visit! (Could be worse, he could have moved to Australia - too far to visit!) Although, when they went off to college, I always knew they would come back...the difference is that Colin will probably build his future in LA.

What I do get sad about is the disconnect that the 4 brothers could easily develop. Doug and Jon are in NYC, Nick is still in college in South Carolina and between work and school it is often hard to have them all together at the same time! In fact, it had already been 1 1/2 years since they had all been in the same room! Let me introduce them, in the photo from left to right - Jon, Nicky, Colin, Frank (Dad) and Doug. Such a handsome bunch! I am so proud of them all for each of their lives! But as brothers, I want them so much to KNOW each other. (By the way...ever seen such a group of cute guys! LOVE tHEM!)

So for Fathers Day, (which happened to be Colin's Bday this year) I secretly arranged with all the boys to fly to LA and surprise Colin! First of all, it was so much fun planning the secret trip. It was fun to coordinate the flights to arrive simultaneously and exciting to know that all my boys were up in the sky, on separate planes, crossing the country! When we all arrived, we headed directly to surprise Colin at his job at Trump Golf Course, Palos Verde.

OF course, his manager and staff were all "in on" the secret surprise (which made it even more fun!). And as he walked into the lounge and saw us all sitting at the bar, I could feel the love! I know that sounds corny, but I could. It was so fun to hear the bantering that only brothers can do. I half expected them to start wrestling on the floor!

Colin had the surprise of his life. He thought he would be spending his bday without family and now he had ALL of his brothers there in California. They could finally see where he worked, where he lived, where he spent his free time.

They could finally relate to things when they talked on the phone. California is a different planet from the North East...and you have to be there to understand the lifestyle. The brothers now knew how cold the ocean is, how eclectic the people are, how terrible the traffic is and how beautiful the scenery is. They finally understand why Colin is there.

We had a great time. Didn't do any of the typical "sight seeing" activities...just hung out and lived in Colin's world for 5 days.

For me, it was one of the best vacations that I have ever had. Not to mention that this was also Fathers Day, so it was heart warming to see Dad with all his boys! I will never forget the sounds of laughter, banter, and even the occasional argument. It actually makes me cry when I think about it....I hope that there are many more times just like this.

So hurry up Colin! We are all pulling for you to jumpstart your fabulous career! We want to come visit again soon! I want all the Boys together again!

Sublime” - causing wonder or astonishment

We came to Carlisle Bay with high expectations. We took great care and much thought to choose Carlisle Bay. A large part of that decision was based on their website. My skeptical nature did cause me to worry.

During our flight to Antigua, I started to worry, to second guess our decision....”Were the photos accurate?” “Could it really be that beautiful?” “Should we have chosen one of the others?” Too late now!

We arrived in Antigua on time. The views from the plane were amazing. My buyers remorse disappeared instantly! Our ride to the resort was impressive. Antigua reminds me of St Martin 20 years ago, before St Martin was ruined with the inundation of timeshare units. Antigua has kept their virtue. Much more pristine.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of “junk” and the neatness of the locals homes. It was obvious that Antiguans are prideful of their homes and their island.

After driving through rolling hills and pastures surrounded by mountains, we entered a rainforest. Absolutely stunning. It reminded me of St Lucia. At that moment, I affirmed my decision that there is no need to fly 15 hours to Hawaii!!! The Caribbean has it all!

As we cleared the forest and began our descent into Carlisle Bay I suddenly felt very proud of myself...I DEFINITELY made the right decision!

Stepping out of the car, a bridge led us over a Koi pond surrounded by Bougainvilla and right into the Great House reception. The designers were extremely successful at blending Caribbean soul with modern sleek. Refreshingly charming.

First impressions are everything and Carlisle Bay made a magnificent first impression. How can I describe it...Sometimes pictures are worth a thousand words!

Warm welcoming reception.

Think crisp White sheets, azure sea with sparkling crystals and the sound of palm trees in the breeze. Tropical , lush garden walkways. Absolute perfection!
You know it is a great resort when you can’t decide to stay in the room, or go outside! We did stay long enough to play with the luxurious Cappuccino Machine! (Funny how special little things are exciting!) It was great to have that in our room. Fresh ground coffee, espresso or cappuccino as soon as you wake!
Breakfast served on our balcony is something I am still thinking about! Fantastic service. Stunning views. I miss that!
Beach- Perfect. Kayaked on the smooth, clear rolling waters each morning. Sand that is meticulously groomed and soft, surrounded by the mountains. Montserrat mysteriously looming on the horizon of the bay...could not stop staring at the white lava covered slopes. It was perfect. Not to mention the fresh fruit kabobs & cool drinks delivered with a smile!
Cuisine - Wonderful. Romantic setting overlooking the beach. Open air, clean and crisp. Again, pictures are worth a thousand words! Great menu selection. Would stand up to the finest NYC restaurants. Presentation was very artistic. Service was lacking a bit, but very friendly (remember that you are on “island time”).
Lunch was amazing. Beautiful, serene views. The soft sound of the water lapping at the shore. We had a nice bottle of wine and fresh, fantastic Avocado and Tuna salad....and then, the chorus of children whining and crying began!
I will tell you the only bad thing that I can say about Carlisle Bay Resort is that it is such a romantic place yet the children seem to overwhelm the dining room. Carlisle Bay does a great job of segregating the families from the couples on the beach, and they can easily solve this problem by utilizing the other half of the dining room for families and leaving the romantic side for couples. It would make everyone more relaxed (including the parents that are stressed!).
Spa - Sleek, calming and very professional. Menu had many options. The massage was wonderful for both of us. Rates were very reasonable. Gym small but very nice equipment, very clean and motivating class schedule.Tennis - I don’t play tennis, but I was impressed! Great courts. Excellent tennis pros.
I highly recommend Carlisle Bay Resort! I would go back in a heartbeat! Worth every penny! Treat yourself!

Celebrating a Special Birthday?

I can tell you one thing I have realized in 2009, that is that life is too short! Somehow, life just seems to rush by us. Not enough days in the week, not enough weeks in the month. I always seem to busy to make time for “girlfriend time”.

I have a husband that I love to be around. And I have 5 grown kids that keep me on my toes. But nothing replaces the needed outlet of just “hanging out with the girls”! After my husband , kids and work...I really have to go out of my way to find the time to even have lunch with my friends. But when I do, it is so worth it! Better then an hour spent in therapy!

There is something special about having a dinner, home party or weekend away when it is JUST the Girls! It is relaxing (not having to take anyone into consideration except YOU!)? It is reconnecting (feeling that trust and bond that you can tell your girlfriend , sister or mom ANYTHING!)? Is it just laughter (and there is so much of that around when the Girls Get together)?

I think it is all 3! And it is a great way to celebrate!

Turning 30? 40? 50? even 80!!! Getaway with your girlfriends and have some fun! Hop on a cruise and celebrate! You deserve that time to do what YOU want to do! Be that 11 year old again...stay up all night giggling! Talk about clothes, boys, dreams and George Clooney! When I am away with the girls, that little girls in me comes alive!!

I love my husband, but he would think I was nuts if I just started dancing on my bed! Or singing Sweet Caroline in the middle of dinner! (I know my kids would keep their distance!!) But I do that with the Girls!! We act silly, we dance, we talk, talk, talk! And Laugh, Laugh, Laugh!!

DOn’t take your friendships for granted. There is nothing better then knowing that when you need an ear, or a hug...they are there! When you want to celebrate...they are there!

I have been very fortunate to have sailed the Sea Dream II a few years ago. It truly is a “once in a lifetime” trip. But now I am fortunate enough to do it twice! The Celebrity Century,
in THIS Century!

In 1997, my whole family cruised on the Celebrity Century for a family reunion in honor of my parents 30th wedding anniversary. It was a huge success! Everyone (new and experienced cruisers alike) LOVED the Century. Everyone was impressed with its service and atmosphere (decorated in the rich nautical colors that you think a Classy Ship at sea should be).

12 years ago, the Century was considered a huge ship, by standards today, she is small and intimate. It amazes me that even after the introduction of “Mega” ships, the Century is still impresses

After a total revitalization 6 years ago, the Celebrity Century She still is the classy ship that she was 12 years ago, only better!!! And yes, small and intimate are 2 perfect ways to describe her. Yet she is large enough to offer every amenity that larger ships offer, only with a bit more class and style. In fact, ALOT more style!

We were fortunate enough to be staying in the Royal Suite, but I can testify to the fact that the interior rooms were just as elegant and classically styled. Warm, rich colors and woods make every stateroom feel like a Penthouse suite! Ocean View rooms have very large windows that make you feel as though you are in a verandah stateroom. The designers of the Century should be applauded!

The Murano Restaurant - Table side cooking and elegant service.

The Aqua Spa - New and Improved Gym and Spa.

Healthy Cafe - Great option for healthy meals!

So many great attributes. I plan on doing my next Girls Getaway on the Century in Fall 2010. And I have no doubt that every one will be impressed!!!

The New Carnival Dream!

Frank and I were honored to be part of the Carnival Dream Inaugural. It was exciting to be part of it! When a ship arrives in Manhattan, it arrives with the glamour and prestige it deserves, and the Carnival Dream deserves it! A perfect option for families and adults. A Cruise Ship that caters to everyone!

Oscar-wining actress Marcia Gay Harden christened Carnival Cruise Line's largest ship by swinging a specially made New York Yankees baseball bat, signed by Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, at a human-sized plastic replica of a Moet & Chandon champagne bottle. At the same time, an actual bottle of champagne was smashed into the vessel's hull.

The 3,646-passenger Dream is Carnival's largest ship and the first in a new class of Carnival vessel. It is a ship perfect for families and adults. Innovative, traditional and FUN!

The Dream boasts 19,000 square feet dedicated to children's facilities, including the four-slide Carnival WaterWorks aqua park, with the longest slide at sea. The space dedicated to children is fantastic! Impressive! Even those “water park” fans will be impressed by the water park on the Dream! But the fun for kids doesn’t stop there! The Kids clubs are inviting and exciting

The Ocean Plaza, an indoor/outdoor cafe and entertainment area that is home to the FunHub, where the line's new, onboard social networking system can be accessed. Sporadic FunHubs (computers for online networking) are for all to hop on the internet and get in touch with friends.

The ship also introduces the Lanai, a half-mile, open-air promenade on Deck 5 that has lounge areas and whirlpools that cantilever over the ship's side. Very refreshing. It is actually an addition to the pool decks of a ship, with the feeling of the “promenade”. Clever addition. Added sun space with an adult feeling. The Casino and Crimson dining room also impress. Classy, fun and enchanting. A perfect mix!

Speaking of Adult...the spa sun deck is a very exclusive refuge for adults only. Very “south beach” and luxurious, it offers everything a top notch spa in Miami has. Definitely completes the Spa feeling

We stayed in a Balcony Stateroom and were very pleased. Colors were toned down, room was spacious and the balcony was a breathe of fresh air (literally!). Bed was comfortable, storage was plentiful and the blow dryer was strong. Nothing more to say!!! We were happy.

This ship is a dream. If you are going to sail Carnival, do it...Dream it!!!

Walking for a Cure on the Girls Cruise

I have been running these “Girls Getaways” for may years. I have met many women with many different back rounds and history. But I can tell you that there is one thing they all have in common..and that is that someone they love has been touched with cancer (if not themselves)!

I personally have 2 girl friends with breast cancer & one with ovarian cancer. It definitely touches close to home. I have heard such great stories of “courage and hope” not only from my friends but from so many of the Girls on my GIrls Getaways.

On our last Girls Getaway, I was so excited and moved to hear that Carnival does a “Walk for the Cure” on each sailing, every week throughout their fleet! But it doesn’t stop there! Every ship in the Carnival Cruise line Corp. also hosts a fundraising “Walk for the Cure”! I say Kudos to them!

This is how it works...every walker pays $ 10 on their shipboard account. That money goes directly to the Susan G Komen Foundation. Each participant receives a t-shirt (although they could have been cuter!) and is eligible to walk at a designated time. That might not sound like the most fun to you..but it actually is alot of fun. It is such a great feeling to meet so may others that are also walking, but it is such a good feeling to be “giving” when you are so blessed to be fortunate enough to be on a cruise vacation.

Carnival Cruises raises about $ 1000 average per ship. With 40b ships sailing sper week (among many Cruise Lines) that is approx. $ 40,000 per week! It is a great feeling to be part of that! I am so glad that Carnival offers the opportunity to “be part” of that. I might not be one to walk 5 miles..but I certainly can contribute for 30 minutes on a cruise vacation!

Girls Getaway Cruise 2009

This summers Girls Getaway Cruise started with extreme apprehension!

For days before the cruise, the whole North East watched Hurricane Bill’s every move. Many worried that this storm would ruin their weekend summer vacation plans. Rented beach houses, amusement park plans, camping or hiking for the weekend. Hurricane Bill had the power to destroy everyones plans. Including ours!

My phone was ringing every 5 minutes! I was constantly reassuring my Girls “No need to worry...the Captain would never take a chance with a Hurricane. Carnival would make sure to keep the Triumph, its crew and passengers safe.” I do believe that 100%...but I will admit that I said a little prayer everytime I got off the phone! Yes, I was watching the Weather Station VERY CLOSELY!

Everyone decided to stick with our plans and boarded the Carnival Triumph. As we sailed away from Manhattan in the gorgeous evening sky, I found myself confidently reassuring my Girls once again. We were starting our Cruise Getaway and not even Bill could put the brakes on our fun!

*On our Girls Getaways, everyone has thier own agenda...

*Some are coming on with friends to feel stress free for the weekend.

*Some women come on in the hopes of meeting other like minded women and relaxing.

*Mothers come on with daughters who have been away at college, so they can reconnect and spend quality time together.

*Some Girls are celebrating important birthdays or even upcoming weddings!

No matter what you came for, they all have one thing in common... they came to laugh!

Even though some Girls choose to stay in small sets, is a nice feeling to seeing familiar faces while on your Getaway. Our first evenings cocktail party is designed to introduce and get comfortable. We started this Girls Getaway Cruise with “The Gossip Girl Game”. The objective to win - Meet the most Girls and find out the Best Gossip! And let’s not forget that the Girl who gave the BEST Gossip also wins!! It is a fantastic way to tell fun, unexpected information about yourself and learn the same about others! It was a room full of laughter and absurdities! FUN!

Our first day at sea was relaxing. It was actually nice ot get out of the oppresive heat as we sailed up north toward Canada. Perfect sun, calm seas and great weather for sunbathing. Others spend the day in the Spa. We had quite a few winners in the Casino! And one lucky Girl treated herself to quite the diamond necklace! I watched from the top deck as a group of our Girls danced the reggae beat around the pool and laughed hysterically at the “Hairiest Chest” contest. That’s the best thing about our Girls Getaway Cruises..Everyone does exactly what THEY want to do! So many choices. So much fun!

We were informed by the captain in the late afternoon that we wouldn’t be making it to our Port of Call (St John, NB) due to Bill. He had planned to head south and avoid meeting Hurricane Bill at sea. Sounded good to us! 2000 people onboard and not one complaint! No one was interested in coming face to face with Bill.

I could go on and on telling you about the perfect weather we had as we sailed for the whole 4 nights and days. I could tell you all the exciting details about our Midnight Martini Party, Project Runway Show, TV Trivia games and dancing till all hours....but you will have to join us on one of our Getaways to find out all the details!

Girls Getaways is not just about a vacation. It’s about bonding: sleepovers at your best friend’s house, staying up all ight giggling about cute boys at school, mother/daughter lunches that last longer than the time it takes to eat a chicken caesar salad (dressing on the side). Payson Coopers' Transformational Jewelry

I have gone through phases throughout my life. Not just “Diet phases”, “Health Food phases”, “Gardening phases”...but also “Jewelry phases”.

As a teen, I was into gold. Gold chains, charms and hoop earrings. Typical teen stuff. Stuff I would hunt for in Claires Boutique. It was fun. Fun shopping and Fun jewelry. I never wanted to spend alot on my jewelry, mostly because I didn’t have much to spend, but also because it had a life span of about 1 month with me before I lost it!

Then I got engaged. My first introduction to DIAMONDS!! That started another phase. A much more expensive phase. That first diamond was so brilliant and filled with promise of a wonderful life...and also just beautiful to look at! In the years to follow, diamonds were my jewelry of choice. Diamonds, gold and Emeralds were a 10 year phase! Okay, maybe 15! Okay...the diamond will probably always be a phase!

I would not even consider wearing anything that wasn’t real gold. I didn’t have a huge collection. I had collected a few pieces at important holidays or celebrations, and was very happy and appreciative. A pair of Diamond studs, a ring or two. Not much, but all the basics. After time, I realized that my “basics” were repeating themselves and started to loose their delight. They started becoming merely “staples”. I wanted the fun back!

So here I am, in my “I like things different, more variety” phase. OF course, it would be a great thing if I could have entered this phase with a bigger variety of diamonds and stones...but this thing called “reality” seems to always interfere!

The “reality” is that money IS an object! So I started to appreciate the value of nice jewelry that wasn’t diamonds! And realized the true value of jewelry that was different and unique. Forget the Canary Diamonds, forget the Pink Diamonds....the world is full of beautiful jewelry that isn’t diamonds! How about Glass Jewelry? White Gold? Silver? Semi precious stone? Silver? Swarovski? The options are endless!

I have acquired some amazingly fun, stylish bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings over the past few years. I love to collect while traveling. I love to find unique accents that will make people notice and ask “Where did you get that?”!

So there I was, at Savor the Success’ “Rock the World Event” when I found the most interesting, inspiring Jewelry Collection. Payson Cooper was preseting her Transformational Jewelry line and I was impressed! I love when something makes me say “I HAVE TO HAVE THAT!” And I did, have to have that!

The Chambers Hotel, NYC

I am a total Boutique Hotel Junkie! So on our last trip into Manhattan, staying the Parker Meridian, when we walked down 56th Street and passed this “Cool” looking Hotel entrance, I HAD to check it out! We entered the huge wooden doors and instantly felt the cozy, classy, boutiquey atmosphere. I was impressed. Impressed enough to want to see more!

Denvil (from the front desk) greeted us with a casual welcoming smile and offered to show us a few rooms. I must say, 1/2 of the experience of a Hotel stay comes from the service and 1/2 from the actual accomodation. If Denvil was an indication of the service guests receive at Chambers...the first 1/2 is a charm! He is an asset to the hotel.

It is always interesting to imagine what the rooms are going to be like before we enter the room and discovering if my mental images were correct.

I expected the rooms to be very nice, but did not expect the “loft” style that is evident in every aspect of the room. SOOO COOL! Spacious and not quite like any other hotel I have been in. The concrete ceilings and eclectic loft furnishings felt raw and hard. Yet the bedding and leather furniture accents softened the hue. Calm colors inspiring a fresh feeling of newness. Feels like I could live here!

We saw several rooms, all equally impressive yet different. Same “feel” different layout. Each floor had a different decor that gave a imaginative and creative aura. Loved it! A surprise every time the elevator door opened. I KNEW we would return to experience a stay at Chambers.

And so here I am, sitting in room 113 after arriving yesterday. I must say that the experience of staying here is even better then my first impression! The room was fresh, inventive and spacious. The view from our room is wonderful. But the best treat is being able to actually open the windows like elegant french doors. LOVE It! There is a great advantage to opening a window and feeling the weather, hearing the “city sounds” and just breathing! It sounds rather simple, but is a rare commodity in a NYC hotel. Such a treat!

Another attribute to the room is the bathroom. Just behind the apothecary style, green glass door is a cozy yet industrial feeling bathroom. Whoever knew concrete floors and vanity could be so inviting.

White and clean are the 2 words that describe this bath chamber. Although the size is not enormous however the open shower gives an open airy feeling. DId I forget to mention the shower head? How could I not! There is nothing better then a great shower in a hotel. And this is it! Form the rain style shower head to the Red Flower luxury bath products...I feel pampered. I can really live like this!

Service issues...NONE!

Needed an iron, here in 5 minutes. Ice, 3 minutes. Complimentary Continental Breakfast, 10 minutes. All with a smile and pleasant greeting. I am happy!

One of the things I love about small Boutique hotels is that when entering or leaving, the staff treats you as if you are a special VIP. Chambers staff is not only attentive, but obviously well trained in communicating that special invitation. Again, HAPPY!

Celebrity Solstice

Let's do it Again!

Think we had fun last year? We were just getting started! It was so great to meet everyone who came to Cruise with Pat Guadagno! If I might say so, it was a fun, happy, adventurous and friendly group of people!

The ship was beautiful! Classy, elegant and informal all at once. And who ever thought a grass lawn on a ship would be so relaxing? Care for a little Bocce Ball competition?

The pool and sun deck felt as if it was a Slinky and Hip as a Miami South Beach Resort. Very adult and pampering.

Cuisine was sumptuous. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were equally impressive. The dining room itself was a cavernous room filled with shades of whites and sparkles. I felt as though I was sitting in a glass of Champagne. Very bubbly!

The Martini Bar and the Wine Cellar were perfect for pre-dinner cocktails & after dinner cocktails & afternoon cocktails & well, cocktails ANYTIME! Fun bars, great service!

The ports of call were tweaked. We kept our favorites - San juan and St Marten and added St Kitts! PERFECT! And it even leaves us 3 days at sea to relax, play Bocce, dine, have cocktails and let Pat entertain us!

We definitely need more Pat in 2010! He was great on the cruise. We all listened, sang, danced and laughed with him. Michaels Club was the perfect venue to spend an hour with Pat. The staff really liked him too! Once again, Pat kept us entertained!

So do you even have to ask WHY? OF course...Let’s do it again!

The Langosta Lounge, Asbury Park

Ever wonder what the phrase "Very Bohemian" means? I think you can find the definition at Asbury Parks Langosta Lounge. The "very comfortable, relaxed style" is evident in everything from the decor to the staff, the menu and the clientele. Every inch is consistently inconsistent! "Very Bohemian!" We mosied in feeling like we just "fit". We never expected to fall in love with this eccentric treasure...but we did!

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, there is nothing better than putting down the convertible top and cruising to the beach. Yesterday we ended up in Asbury Park seeking something a little different. And we certainly did find it in the Langosta Lounge. Their business card says "Vacation Cuisine & Libations" - inspired by the places we travel and the people we meet. That fascinated me. I love travel and I love food. Was this the place near home that could "take me away?"

We sat at the bar and decided to order a few menu items. Just like the atmosphere, the selection on the menu was intriguing. We compromised and settled on 3 items. Calamari 3 ways (Brazilian Vatapa, Dialdo Sauce and Thai), Tuna & Shrimp Ceviche and the Langosta Enchilada. 3 Fabulous choices! The Ceviche, with its mango, onion and limy goodness literally was a celebration of flavor! The Tuna truly melted in my mouth. I would have been satisfied with just that, but was too curious about what was next. The Langosta Enchilada is something that I normally would not order, but was very glad that I expanded my horizon. It was excellent. Of course, I could never recreate that dish at home...so I will have to go back! The Calamari was crunchy and the sauces were each very deliciously different. But I was actually too stuffed to truly enjoy it. I will have to start with that next time!

We were not as adventurous with our Cocktail choice. We had a very nice bottle of Savignon Blanc but while probably should have tired the Sangria. It looked so refreshing! Filled with fruit. Watching the Steve, the bartender, make his exotic concoctions was fun! From Bloody Marys from scratch to Blue Margaritas, he was really fun to watch. A "mix Master"!

Did I mention the entertainment? Again, the phrase "very Bohemian" comes to mind. The "Stringbean and the Stalkers" were great! If I closed my eyes, I wouldn't be able to decide if I was in either New Orleans or the Tropics. They were so eclectic. Very soulful, very cool, very jazzy. The scruffy surfer dude with his harmonica and voice was so fun to listen to. An amazing asset to the Langosta Lounge. Again...very consistent!
