I was on a bit of a thrifting hiatus, as my house can't accommodate all my treasures.  Well, I've got the bug and have been back at it full force...I'll find a place to cram it!  Last weekend I went to New Brunswick to spend some time with J, as he is working on a home reno project there and our time together has been limited as of late.  The property where he is working is

I have reverted to my childhood with my newest crafty obsession.  Shrinky Dinks...very 80's don't you think?  For those of you who didn't have these when you were a kid Shrinky Dinks are basically sheets of thin plastic that shrink to around 75% their original size and 3 times their thickness.  I've been playing around with them and I know I am going to come up with something

As I sit here with no voice (laryngitis) I have an urge to say something.  Since I haven't posted in almost three months and can't call up anyone to talk, I figure this is the best venue to share a few thoughts.  In the past few months I have travelled to Cuba, bought a new car and have spent a lot of time pondering life (but then again aren't I always?).  Cuba was

This week was an especially busy one in grade 1-2. Not only did we celebrate the 100th day of school but we partied it up for Valentine's day. I love my job. A few photos from our celebrations:

This really wasn't supposed to be a teaching blog, but since a huge portion of my life revolves around my profession I'm gonna blog it from time to time.  Since the beginning of January my grade 1-2's have been studying Vincent Van Gogh in art.  I was pleasantly surprised to find out they are totally into it and have taken a huge interest in Mr. Van Gogh.  At least twice a week I

For Christmas my boyfriend got me a calendar to replace the 2012 Dirty Dancing one I had hung in my kitchen.  Since he is well aware of my penchant for all things vintage he got me one with classic movies.  These movies have a range of release dates from the 30's to the 90's (omg...that's vintage?!) and our plan is to watch each movie as it pops up on the calendar.  For

2012 was quite the year! It was a year of new love, fresh starts, glorious sunshine, creativity and overall positivity.     I opened my mind and heart to the possibility of finding love and it came to me in a way I have never experienced before.  For the first time in my life I truly know what it is like to have a partner.  I have found a little more

Okay, so it has been like forever since I've last posted.  Lot's has happened over the last almost three months.  I figured I'd better update the world on my life before it ends apocalyptically on Friday.  In October after much praying and pleading to the teaching gods I got a job teaching grade 1-2 at the same school I worked at last year.  This is my first honest to

Over the past two months I have taken two Wilton cake decorating classes (Decorating Basics and Flowers and Cake Design).  Humidity, icing complications and the constant ramming of Wilton products down your throat made it hard for me to say that I totally enjoyed the classes but I did learn quite a bit.  As somone with a little bit of baking experience (mostly winging it and

I've got two new boyfriends.  Don't worry.  They're totally cool with it.  Why? Because they are both totally badass and that's how they roll.  Maybe it's because the first half of season 5 of Breaking Bad is now done and that I am almost through season 4 of Sons of Anarchy but I just can't get these two out of my mind and couldn't possibly pick between them.  They are

As I was sitting eating my lunch I thought about just how much I love my little yellow kitchen. Perhaps this renewed love and appreciation was spurred on my the little 70's-ish shelf I hung yesterday to display my little collection of salt and pepper shakers. I am so happy that this Value Village find can showcase my kitschy shakers and also that it clears up some clutter from the little area

I must admit that at the beginning of this summer I was a little nervous.  Last year I had my waitressing gig to supplement my meager employment insurance benefits.  This summer I am not working at all.  I thought the lack of income might mean no fun for me and missing out on a lot of awesome things.  Luckily I can say that this has not been the case.  With summer break

Yesterday I nervously attempted my first ever painting. I have been seeing gorgeous ikat print everywhere in fashion and home decor and it inspired me to try to create my own painted version. I am a little worried about the trendy-ness of this project, but the good news is it definitely wasn't a bank breaker...so if I get sick of it no biggie:) Of course I couldn't start with a small or even

Now that it's the last week of school and the first full week of summer I have officially got summer fever.  I can't stop thinking about all of the fun things I want to do this summer.  Already it seems that my weekends are filling up.  Here are a few things that I had in mind to make my summer complete: 1.  Multicultural Festival (ate my way through China, India and Sri

Life has been busy with the school year wrapping up and I have not had much time to think too much about writing...except for report cards that is. The good new is as of tonight reports are done. I am just awaiting approval from the admin and am praying that I have only a fraction of the edits i had second term. I am also happy to be stepping up my game in the physical fitness department and am

The other day I got the most adorable salt and pepper shakers to add to my collection. I actually think these are my favorites to date.

A beautiful long weekend is wrapping up and it couldn't have been any more perfect. I started the weekend off by buying a beaut of a bicycle. I can't wait to get my bell and basket:) I also enjoyed a lovely hike to Cape Split with the boy as well as lots of BBQ goodness. Today after spending a beautiful sunny day outside I decided to try to make one of my favorite drinks, Passion Iced Tea

Happy Mother's Day to all my mommy friends out there and of course to my amazing Momma:)  Here is a cute little activity I did with my class for their moms. This was actually a math/art activity.  I gave each child a $5.00 budget and they had to decide what items (clothes, jewelry, make-up, etc.) they wanted to buy to make their mom.  Then we put them all together.  I think

I just wanted to take a moment to share my most recent thrifted finds and one of my go to low-cal, low fat and super simple recipes.  I got these ballin' vintage oxford heels and fun floral blanket at Value Village a few days ago.  Love 'em:) A few days ago I came home feeling stressed and needed to blow off some steam and was craving something a little sweet.  I made this

I haven't done one of these posts in a while but I just recently realized my love for Tom Hardy. About two weeks ago I went to see "This Means War". Overall, a pretty shit movie...but the eye candy that is Tom Hardy made it worth the $10 admission.  In the movie he plays the good guy, but to me he screams bad boy.  His British accent definately increase his degree of hotness.

I haven't posted on here for over a month!  I have been getting really slack.  I haven't been feeling overly inspired but a few fun things have happened and I have gotten a few things done around here.  It also doesn't help that report card time is creepin' up on me and is starting to consume my life.  Due to the fact that I am feeling incredibly lazy, here is the

The only downfall of having a full time job and being able to pay your bills is not having enough time to do things like read for pleasure and create.  I have sneaked in a few crafty bits here and there but it is certainly not my number one priority at the moment.  I am looking forward to March Break in a months time where I can get a few things, both practical for work and fun done.&

I am not usually a cheapskate in the grocery department.  Generally if I want it I buy it no matter what the cost.  I get too much pleasure from food to skimp and not get what I really want.  That being said I am really impressed with my ability to make one little chicken go so far.  Since I am on a bragging about how great I am kick (see yesterday's post) I thought I'd share

I know none of y'all care but I am here to toot my own horn.  I love having a productive day!  Today was that long overdue day.  Here is why I am tooting patting myself on the back: a)  I am on top of my school planning and marking. b) I went to the gym. c) I made homemade chicken noodle soup. d) I also made a roast. All since 5pm :)  Go me!
