Grub2, the new boot menu installed by default with Ubuntu 9.10

Ubuntu 9.10 ships with the new GRUB (Grand Unified Boot Loader 1.97 beta) in plain words its the software that boots the operating system you choose when you boot the computer. In earlier versions of Ubuntu / Grub to change the menu on the grub screen, one had to edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file. In the new system this a little different from just editing the one file.

First be root sudo su
Edit the file /etc/default/grub
Change the GRUB_DEFAULT value to number your default operating system

in My case
0. Linux kernel ******
1. Linux Recovery ****
2. Memory Test bla bla...
3. Memory Test bla bla bla...
4. Windows 7 Loader....

I have set GRUB_DEFAULT = 4 for Windows 7
Change GRUB_TIMEOUT to change the default timeout if you want to.
Run update-grub

Google Wants to Speed Up the Web With New Protocol

Google has just announced that it is working on a new protocolthat will minimize latency and speed up the Web experience for users. SPDY (pronounced "speedy") is not meant to replace HTTP, the protocol that allows Web servers and browsers to talk to each other today, but it does augment HTTP. The new protocol incorporates features like multiplexed streams, request prioritization and HTTP header compression.

Google has already developed a prototype Web server and a version of Google Chrome with built-in SPDY support.

Google claims that pages loaded 64% faster in lab tests in which the research team downloaded the top 25 websites. Now that the SPDY team has developed workable prototypes, Google decided to open up the process and is soliciting the "active participation, feedback and assistance of the web community."
In today's announcement, Google stresses that SPDY is not a replacement for HTTP. It uses HTTP methods and headers, but it overrides the parts of the protocol that manage connections and data transfer formats.
Google will soon release its open-source SPDY-enabled Web server. The source code for the SPDY-enabled version of Chrome can be found here.

Creating a Faster and More Secure Web

According to the SPDY white paper, the project's goals are to reduce page load times by 50%, minimize deployment complexity and avoid the need for website owners to make any changes to their sites to implement SPDY. Instead, all the hard work will happen in the client and the Web server.
The team also wants SPDY to allow many concurrent HTTP requests to run across one TCP session and to make SSL the standard transport protocol.
Google clearly has an interest in making the Web experience as fast and secure as possible for its users. One of the reasons Google released its own browser was to get every other browser developer to focus on speed again. SPDY is even more ambitious. With SPDY, Google wants to change one of the most fundamental protocols on the Internet.
According to Google, these are the basic improvement of SPDY over HTTP:

Multiplexed requests. There is no limit to the number of requests that can be issued concurrently over a single SPDY connection. Because requests are interleaved on a single channel, the efficiency of TCP is much higher.
Prioritized requests. Clients can request certain resources to be delivered first. This avoids the problem of congesting the network channel with non-critical resources when a high-priority request is pending.
Compressed headers. Clients today send a significant amount of redundant data in the form of HTTP headers. Because a single Web page may require 50 or 100 subrequests, this data is significant. Compressing the headers saves a significant amount of latency and bandwidth compared to HTTP.

Needs to restore your windows vista to the manufacturing settings.

If you have not deleted the Recovery Partition then Turn of your computer and start your computer by "novo" key instead of power button.

which initiates OneKey recovery, and follow the on-screen dialogue. If your data is not important then you can delete all the partitions other then Recovery Partition, then follow the OneKey recovery process....

It doesn't matter how many partitions do you have or you have changed the partitions, as soon as you have not touched your recovery partition everything will work fine - with your OneKey recovery process.

Acer LCD Monitor - Screen Resolution Problem - Solution

Best Resolution to work with Acer 1916w 19" monitor is 1440 x 900.
Any how if this resolution is not coming in your resolution list, I suggest to follow the steps below, that were helped me to get out of this problem.

Restart your Computer
deactivate/Off DDC / CI from Monitors' Settings Menu
un-pluged My Monitor from CPU
Start the Computer
And check the Resolution Settings you will get 1440 x 900 option in your resolution list.

Thanks to winamp, that I can manage my iPod with Winamp

iTunes can't use it with multiple computers :@ pathetic
using winamp we can control / mange the iPod easily and quickly.

While Installing the winamp Install the Portable Media Support.

Winamp Media Library can be used to add / remove tracks for iPod.

Winamp allows drag and drop tracks to the iPod and just remove from device, will delete the tracks from the iPod.

Skype allows login per windows user.
but we can start another skype with another user without logging into another user's desktop
Here are the steps that you need to follow

Goto c:\Program Files\Skype\Phone - or the directory when skype is installed.
Right click on Skype.exe - select run as from the menu.
Use another user like Administrator or else, and you are done - start using another instance of skype.

Wolfram Alpha is called a computation knowledge engine rather than a search engine and wants to change the way people use online data.

It aims to give people direct answers to queries rather than send them to other sites where they may find what they are seeking.

The system is the brainchild of British-born physicist Stephen Wolfram.

Wolfram Alpha was unveiled in late April and since then has been publicly demonstrated and some people have had a chance to run queries through it.

Typically the results it returns are annotated pages of data rather than a simple list of other sites that might help resolve a user's query.

For example, if asked about the weather in Manchester it would present a graph of average temperatures, rainfall and other salient data.

The computational horsepower behind the main site works out answers to question as they are put by grabbing data from databases and consulting feeds of relevant information.

Wolfram Alpha can be asked known facts, such as the height of mountains, or be asked to generate new information such as up to date figures for a nation's GDP.

It can also handle complicated mathematical queries, plot statistics and produce charts of natural events.

The data it consults is chosen and managed by staff at Wolfram Research who ensure it can be displayed by the system. Behind the scenes Wolfram Alpha has about 10,000 CPUs spread across five data centres that it draws on when generating answers.

During a demonstration at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, Dr Wolfram said: "Our goal is to make expert knowledge accessible to anyone, anywhere, anytime."

Dr Wolfram played down talk that the system would be a Google killer and instead presents it as a way for people to get more out of the information on the web.

The final tuning and testing of the system was webcast live during the weekend before the official launch.

Prior to the start of the webcast and final testing, Theo Grey, co-founder of Wolfram Research, said: "If we do melt down when we go live it will not be for lack of effort, or any sort of naive idea of how many queries we might get. It will be because of overwhelming response."

Set up Ultra Edit for Python Language.

Tired from the autorun.inf virus from Removable disk and pen drives.

Here is the solution,

create a directory named "autorun.inf" in the root path of your removable disk,
so virus will never create that automatically and never executed automatically.....

How to change postgresql data directory.

vim /etc/postgresql/8.2/main/postgresql.conf
set data directory path to the new directory path
Create new Server Certificate

openssl req -new -text -out server.req
openssl rsa -in privkey.pem -out server.key
rm privkey.pem
openssl req -x509 -in server.req -text -key server.key -out server.crt
chmod og-rwx server.key
chown postgres:postgres server.key

Stop and Restart Postgresql server
