Drama-Puthra-Samagama

The stage drama “Puthra Samagama” directed by Mr. Jayalath Manoratne will be staged on the 20^th June 2013 at Bandaranayake Hall, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Puthra Samagama is based on Alexander Vampilov’s ‘The Elder Son’ translated by Mr.Prasanna Vithanage. The cast in the play includes Jayalath Manoratne, Ajith Jinadasa, Chandani Seneviratne, Sampath Thennakoon, Rathna Lalani Jayakody and Sarath Chandrasiri. Music will be directed by Lakshman Wijesekera.

Tickets are now available at the Department of Business Economics.

These include a Bath Dansal on 24th and 25th May 2013 near Library of the University, Dansala and Dhamma desana activities.

Lahiru Dilankara came out with a new SLUG record in the long jump, posting a jump of 7.16m.Gayan sanjeewa stood out as a triple winner at the end of the day establishing 3 new SLUG records in the track events. He won 800m in 1.55.07 mins, 1500m in 4.04.02 mins and 5000m in 15.45.06 mins recording the fastest time of the events in Sri-Lankan University games’ history.

Lahiru Dilankara, Lasitha Pathirana, Dinesh Madusanka and Buddhika Samarasinghe recorded the best time of 4*100m, finishing the event in 0.43.06 min. With that our relay team won the men’s first place of 4*100m relay.

J’pura athletic boys scored 85 points and won the Men’s Championship in the track and field events while our athletic girls earned 59 points and won the Women’s Championship of the category. Thus J’pura athletes came out victorious with the track and field Overall Championship, holding 15 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.

Usually the cheers and the applause are the strength behind a sports victory. But our athletes achieved today’s victory with a minimum crowd of onlookers cheering for J’pura. So this special thanks go to those handful of cheerers for their hearty exclamation.

The Mens’ Table Tennis semi finals were held at the Mora Gymnasium yesterday. Battling against The University of Colombo with an illuminating scoreboard of 3-1 Japura won the game to get through into the finals.

The Finals were held against the University of Moratuwa, and The SLUG2013 Table Tennis Championship was brought home to Japura for an even more illuminating and victoriously sparkling scoreboard of 3-1 beating Mora at their own premises by our proud winners captained by Harith Kosala and vice captained by Chathura Weerakon.

“Even when you’ve played the game of your life, it’s the feeling of teamwork that you’ll remember. You’ll forget the plays, the shots, and the scores, but you’ll never forget your teammates.”

Of course leadership means nothing without a team, sukitha Wikramanayake, Chameera Ginige, Sanka Dananjaya, Akila Wickramanyake, Charith Perera and Thilina Sandaruwan made up the winning men’s team.

The women’s table tennis team of Japura made sure to show equal flare at the game. The women’s table tennis semi finals were also held at the University of Moratuwa against University of Kelaniya, bringing victory and qualifying japura for the Final battle against The University of Colombo.

And Proving that women of Japura are just as capable as any man, The womens team scored 3:1 Giving all the “love” to the UOC team, And bringing the SLUG 2013 womens’ table tennis Championship Home to Japura!

Captained by Iresha peiris and vice captained by Thamali Eranga the winning tigresses were Madushani Perera, Dinithi Herath, Preshika Nuwanthi, Dinithi Fonseka, Sumudumali Piyarathne and Sasini Chandrasinghe. They were the girls who fell in love with the game and never looked back!

It is one of the favorite quotes of Michael Phelps. Yeah, water is his home because he is a kind of fish just like the boys and girls of our J’pura swimming team.

SLUG Swimming Chamions 2013 Jayewardenepura Team

J’pura men have remained undefeated for the last four years and this time also they were able to win the men’s overall championship for the 5th time with 144 points. They cracked 15 out of 16 events as the gold medal winners. And in the other event they won a silver medal.

There were some notable performers in the J’pura men’s swimming team. They were able to establish nine new Sri Lankan University game records today in the swimming history. Simply j’pura boys ruled the swimming pool today.

J’pura girls’ swimming scored 18 points.
Finally our J’pura swimmers came up just short to the UOC swimmers 162 to 180, getting the overall runners up trophy.
What a competition it was!

With that runner- up trophy, we are sure that our J’pura swimmers are on the cloud nine right now…

JapruaFlames Report: J’pura men’s seal the badminton championship in style…

It is said that playing in the home soil is always easy due to the familiar ground conditions and crowd support the home team receive. But today we had the privilege to see a match that broke all those so called benefits only from the true sportsmanship and talent.

University of Sri Jayewardenepura and University of Moratuwa met each others for the men’s badminton finals in the Mora premises. The USJP men were determined to play a great game to obtain the men’s championship. From the beginning it was clear that spectators are going to see a nail biting badminton final. After a great battle from both teams J’pura was able to mark a Remarkable victory against Mora in their own soil. But the support for J’pura team wasn’t unmatchable to Mora crowd support, because so many J’pura sports loving people were there to support the team. 

Finally the score board was as follows. 3 : 1 two singles and a 1 doubles match was won by J’pura in order to seal the men’s championship.

The final doubles match; victory deciding match had its own specialty. Two brothers played against each other in this final battle. The younger brother, Kaveen Muhandiramge of USJP who is a fresherer played against his elder brother, Tharidha Muhandiramge of UOM who is a final year student. Besides the seniority the younger one was able to defeat his elder brother. May be the elder brother has taught well about the game to his little brother.

The J’pura victory path has now opened. J’pura is in a quest for gold now. Let’s make our J’pura family coloured in gold in upcoming events too… Hail jpura….

On the other hand J’pura men’s basketball team played their semis with Kelaniya. While the match was in the progress Lakmal, one of J’pura Basketball stars got injured besides all those J’pura gave a valiant effort but ended up being the losing team. Due to that they had to face University of Moratuwa for the third place match. In the 3rd place match J’pura had the upper hand from the beginning and at the end with a nail biting finish J’pura was able to become the 2nd runners up in the basketball men’s championship.

J’pura was able to become the overall champions in the 2013 SLUG basketball matches.This is the first time a J’pura team was able to become a champion in slug 2013. We congratulate both Women’s and Men’s basketball teams from the bottom of our hearts for their great achivement. Well played J’pura.

Let’s start to rule the Sports events from today onwards !..
