According to JaredCo, around one-third of lost or misplaced smartphones have dead batteries. Until now, there was no way to communicate with the device.

JaredCo has released its first Kindle app, a fun version of the classic word game Hangman, that is now available on Amazon.

Hangman features five increasing levels of difficulty and thousands of words, making it appropriate for kids and adults. The JaredCo Hangman even helps when asked, filling in a blank if the player is stuck.

Those surveyed include customers who have downloaded and purchased one or more of his company’s apps for BlackBerry smartphones and are subscribed to the JaredCo mailing list.  Most are from the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as other countries where the BlackBerry App World™ storefront is available.

“At The Jared Company we design apps to make BlackBerry and other smartphones more powerful, indispensable tools in people’s lives,” said JaredCo founder and CEO Steven Kader said. “We believe the results of this survey of our customers demonstrate we’ve been on target in creating BlackBerry apps that provide BlackBerry customers improved functionality, productivity and utility in their devices.”

Nearly 70 percent of the 5,732 survey respondents said they plan to buy a BlackBerry® 10 smartphone when they are ready to replace their current BlackBerry smartphone.

About 54 percent of those who said they plan to buy a BlackBerry 10 smartphone when they are ready for a new phone said they prefer BlackBerry over other platforms, and another 19.5 percent said they would buy a BlackBerry 10 smartphone because of “appealing features.”

Of the respondents, 39.74 percent have been using a BlackBerry smartphone for the past three to five years, and 27.41 percent for more than five years.

A great majority – 68.3 percent – of those completing the survey said they prefer using a keyboard to an all-touch device, and 88.03 percent said they expect that their current apps will be available on the BlackBerry 10 platform.

Survey respondents said the most valued features of BlackBerry smartphones are email/short message service (25.01 percent), BlackBerry® Messenger (BBM™) (23.09 percent) and ease of use (20.05 percent).

The new game apps sync instantly after download, so they are immediately ready for play and are simple to learn. Each game challenges users to increase their skill and advance to new levels. Box Blaster, with 18 levels of difficulty, helps children develop eye-hand coordination as they use the game’s slingshot to knock down wooden crates from platforms. The game keeps older players’ minds sharp as they calculate arc, speed and other knock-down strategies.

Players choose from varying skill levels, enabling younger and beginning players to ease into the game as they learn and master the game. Players play against the clock to earn valuable time bonuses and increase their scores as they knock down the crates in less time.

In Hungry Snake, a player’s snake grows longer as it eats each bite of food. But if the snake hits the edge of the screen or nips its own tail, the game is over. However, a quick tap of “New Game” starts the player on a new quest to improve his score.

Hungry Snake becomes more challenging and entertaining at each level, and players win time bonuses as they improve their game play. Players may choose to play at various skill levels to vary the challenge.

Wordzle offers varying levels of difficulty, appealing to young players just learning their ABCs and all the way to the most seasoned word game aficionados.  The game tracks players’ progress, helping  young and old alike expand their vocabulary or even practice English as a second language.

The game features a simple player interface. Players tap the screen to create their best words, earning bonus points for faster times, longer words and moving letters to lengthen words.

In spite of all its troubles, BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) has something to celebrate — its app store, the BlackBerry App World, has passed 3 billion downloads.

"BlackBerry smartphone and PlayBook users around the world have downloaded over three billion apps since BlackBerry App World launched!" RIM said in a blog post Friday. "Three billion app downloads averages out to over 2.5 million downloads each day."

It took BlackBerry users just over three years to hit that mark, installing apps for devices such as the BlackBerry Bold 9930, Torch 9860, and the PlayBook tablet. The BlackBerry App World launched in April 2009, and currently has about 90,000 apps available for BlackBerry smartphones and the PlayBook tablet.

RIM said that the number of daily app downloads continues to increase. BlackBerry users downloaded the first billion apps in just over two years. About seven months later, the App World reached 2 billion downloads. Users downloaded the remaining billion apps in the past six months.

Apple's App Store, in comparison, hit 3 billion downloads in less than 18 months and reached the 25 billion app download mark in March. Google's Android Market reached 3 billion in about 27 months, and Microsoft's Windows Phone marketplace has yet to hit that mark.
