Finally its time to share! This couldn't come at a time that's more agonizing for me since I'm actually working on a new blog launch next month. I mean ... How much do I share? How much new content do I want to keep selfishly for the new blog!? I want to share here, but also can't wait to start posting loads of new stuff on what will be my new little home on the Internet.

Anyway ... I've decided going forward this year, I will be offering my Brides "Boudoir Sessions".

A little about Boudoir:

The technical definition for boudoir is a woman's bedroom or private sitting room
The images can be as racy or tame as you like
The resulting photos are usually a gift for a spouse or spouse-to-be for anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine's Day, and for soldiers overseas
Boudoir Sessions are very popular for women celebrating their bodies; whether its a recent weight loss, a new baby bump you want to show off, or just because your curves are FIERCE and you love YOU

Many of these sessions emulate a lingerie fashion shoot!!!

Its been busy week and I'm happy it was. So many task were completed and missions accomplished.

This past Sunday I found the dress of my dreams at David's Bridal. I'm honestly impressed with David's. I went in not expecting much - your white average prom looking wedding dress, something you can easily find at Macy's or just about anywhere else for that matter. To my pleasantly surprise David's Bridals offers a dynamic range of quality and style. They carry stunning gowns from amazingly affordable to moderately priced. Vera Wang dropped her gorgeous WHITE Wedding Collection in February, and I must say that David's Bridal has really brought their A-Game this season! I'm thrilled about finding my dress of course, but the experience is even more precious in my mind because my grandmother was able to participate in the experience. Her face lit up like a tree on Christmas when we found the dress .... those memories are the ones that make the "Getting Married" experience all the more Priceless. Oh, and Thursday, I found the Maid of Honor's dress!! My sister will look fab, and she's very happy with it too! That's two for two with David's! No, I didn't take pictures -- No photos untill the wedding day because its a secret! Yes. I'm cheesy like that.

On another note ... I've joined Weigh Watchers this week! I told you I was going to get things moving! I've already seen drastic changes in only 7 days. Yay!! I have to say, I was skeptical about the whole program at first, but after one week on it, you really can't go wrong. Let me put it this way -- on Wednesday, we had lots of rice, mashed potatoes, noodles and birthday cake (umm, 3 slices for me) for Aloysius' Mother (can you say carb loading?) and I still lost. Not like just one pound, but I lost five and wasn't able to get to the gym at all this week. It kinda makes you realize how terrible you're eating when you're not paying attention. Moving in with Aloysius this summer and getting all cozy at home did not make for a slim waist this winter. But the truth of the matter is, I knew I could turn it around when I was good a ready. WW is not a drastic program by any means. You really can eat what you want - I eat a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich every night as a treat and I'm still losing folks. As long as you stay accountable and true to yourself, you will see the results and won't feel deprived.

The Justin and Mary "Spread the Love" workshop I attended this Tuesday was Fantastical - not a real word, I know. Justin and Mary have such a passion for photography, people and an intense passion for love. Their energy is contagious and insanely inspirational. I'm fired up and ready to go with new ideas and a fresh way of thinking about things. They reccomended a few more books to read, and I'll be assisting on an Engagement shoot this weekend for a couple whose wedding I'll be second shooting next Saturday.

This week was great, but I know there's still so much to do this year!

Just a post to spew my rambling thoughts. Random? Yes. But bear with me.

My brain is spirialing with so many things that must be done and we're nearing the end of another month! My list of "TO DO's" is getting longer by the day. Everytime I check something off, I have to write two more down.

On a good note: I got my taxes done last weekend! *raise the roof* -- The business tax thing was a huge worry for me, and its now one less thing looming over my head. So, I feel really good about that. Amen.

On an UBER good note: I've been working hard at getting an excellent team of Makeup Artist and Hairstylist together to work with me on a few Bridal shoots this Spring AND of course to make YOU (my future brides) look super fabulous on your bridal, engagment or GLAM session! What is a GLAM session you ask? More on that LATER. We can't wait to work our magic together on YOU!

On an exciting note: I'll be attending the "Spread the Love" workshop next week with Justin and Mary Marantz!! I know the information they'll share with us will be PRICELESS and I can't wait to hear them speak again!!

On an UBER exciting note: Going into April - I'll be shooting my first wedding of the year - Yay! This is what I live for!

Oh, yeah and there's this one other little thing I'm trying to organize this year - My Wedding! It's so awful to say that, yes, sometimes I forget there is wedding stuff to be done. The big day is about 6 months away.

Have I chosen a wedding color yet? Nope.

Have I gone shopping for the Dress yet? Nope.

Have I purchased the invitations yet ... you guessed it - Nope. And this list goes on.

What am I waiting for, you ask? Your guess is as good as mine! I never thought there would be so much detail to worry about -- a ba-zillion little things you never think about until its your turn to plan a wedding! *phew*

There are about a dozen other things I've procrastinated on as well - How about that visit to the eye doctor I've been putting off. I've pretty much been in a state of denial for quite some time, but I must face the reality - I need glasses. Squinting is not cool. Or my resolution to get in shape for the biggest day of my life. Still workin' on it!

I know, I know -- Its time to shake a leg!

Before the smoke starts to flow from my ears, let me share this dress I've been drooling over for the last few weeks. Its the most Perfect (with a capital P) wedding dress I've ever laid eyes on from Aria Dress - I mention them in a post I wrote especially for the Brides.

Stunning, Simple and Elegant ... I Die. This weekend WILL be productive - I know it.

Becoming One with My Camera - New York City - Lifestyle Photography

Blogging has been a bit slow for me these past few days, but I'm working hard at playing catch-up!

This week I decided I should try something different in terms of my relationship with my camera. I really feel that I need to bond more closely with my beloved Nikon. In order to do that I've decided to REMOVE the camera strap from the camera body!! *GASP*

I've done this for two reasons ...

1. As much as I love the Nikon Brand - I totally hate the huge, bright yellow logo plastered across the strap. Fashion Faux Pas! Yuck!

and

2. I believe that in order for me to be the best photographer I can possibly be, the camera must become an extension of my arm -- I must be one with my equipment!

When I think about my favorite wedding photographer, and the several amazing commercial lifestyle & fashion photographers I've worked with in the past, the one thing that is absolutely consistent across the board is they used their cameras without a strap around their neck. As they worked, the camera stayed up to their eye 90% of the time. Even when giving direction, they did so from behind the camera. They didn't dare drop the lens from the eye, which I assume, is so a fleeting expression or emotion is not missed. I hate to admit it, but I've totally missed a "look" from someone because I chose to let the camera hang from my neck while I asked her to move her hip this way, or turn her chin that way. Quite frankly, this camera body attached to my favorite 105 2.8 lens easily weighs about 5LBs, and because I don't enjoy stiff-achy-neck-syndrome, I have absolutely no business letting it hang there.

My hope is this exercise will allow me to be able to think with my camera first. I wont drop the body to change the ISO, I won't feel nervous about changing my battery, lens or memory card "without security", and it won't hang from my neck or be deep in my hand bag with the lens cap on. I will be one with my Nikon. What it will be is in my hands and ready to go - Lens cap off and power ON! I won't have to think so hard about whether something is picture worthy ..... then dig out the camera .... then take off the lens ... Awww, I missed it! Nope - from now on, I will be prepared to react!

So, I did it. I removed the camera strap ... Actually it was really difficult to take those suckers off, so Aloysius did it for me. I swear ... most days, he really is my back bone. I love the way she looks already!

Personal Goal #1 - New York, NY Lifestyle Wedding Photographer

Things are getting a little bit busy these days with the ongoing wedding planning, upcomming weddings I'll be shooting this year and the organization and implementation of my business plan for 2011, I'm burning the candle at both ends it seems. Although I'm tired and stressed most days, I don't forget to count my blessings. I'm making the time to persue my passion, grow my business and I'm getting married this year - (can't believe only 6 months to go!) - These are all great things in progress. Even with all this important stuff going on, there are some personal things (little things) I'd like to work on and get done this year too! So, I'll take the time to post them here and share with you. I'm hoping that "putting it out there" will help me to be more accountable in achieving these little task.

So, here it is - Personal Goal #1

I'd like to be able to drive a stick shift by the end of 2011! Depending on the person this may be an odd personal goal, or maybe it isn't. You see, I used to have a car, a great one! I loved my fully automatic 1996 Mazda 626 . We logged lots of lovely mileage and got lots done together. And then one day she over heated on me and burned out - right on Queens Blvd! Can you imagine a smoking car on Queens Blvd blocking 2 lanes of traffic for almost 2 hours? Thats how long it took the tow truck to arrive at the crime scene. I swear stuff like that happens only to me! =P

Anyway ... I've been car-less since 2009. Being without a car quite frankly, stinks. Now, I do have a car - actually WE do, but I don't know how to drive it. Aloysius drives a Honda stick. Its such a dude thing. I love the car and all the places its taken me, but why couldn't he have gotten a standard automatic like everyone else? Sheesh! I've been meaning for sometime to get him to give me a few lessons, but of course we never get around to it. Aloysius is completley happy schelpping me around when public transportation just won't do, but I can't let that keep me from learning. There've been days I needed a car to get around and our's was sitting right out front, but no Aloysius in sight. I've been spolied and I need to be super pro-active this year. The weather is getting much nicer and with daylights savings in full effect, we have an extra hour of daylight to play with! One thing I am worried about is my foot-hand coordination - important when driving a manual. *Note to Aloysius* - I hope I don't to grind too many gears and I'm sorry in advance if I do, Babe!

Wish me luck folks ... I mean with THREE FOOT PEDALS I'm definitley going to need it.

Hello All!

This week has been a bit heavy and intense, so I figured I'd give myself a mental break and post something on the lighter side.

Here' a cute little Indie song I really love. It's called "Little Bit" by Lykke Li. The first time I heard it was as the backround music to a slideshow on my favorite wedding photographer's website (Jasmine Star). This song was fitting for that particular wedding. The musical sounds are dreamy, the lyrics are romantic and her voice is oh so angelic. The way J* poses her bride and groom to tell the story of their wedding day along with the song makes their slideshow a bit steamy if you ask me. I wish I could find the link to the slide show to share it with you, but it was an older wedding from sometime last year and J* updates the work on her website frequently. The music video itself is quirky, off-beat, hypnotic and interesting to watch. The washed out color and soft lighting really add to the whole mood and feel of the song. Overall GOOD STUFF!

I REALLLY want to shoot a wedding and create a slidshow I can loop to this soundtrack. *exhale*

He popped the question?! Congratulations! You're probably considering an engagement session and have a few lingering questions. You're not really sure what to expect, have no clue what to wear, and kinda camera shy. I thought I'd post little FAQ addressing the most commonly asked questions about the engagement session and how to prepare for it.

When should we schedule our engagement session?

Schedule your engagement session during the months when the weather is gorgeous, and try to get them done at least two months before the wedding. The earlier the better especially if you’re thinking about using these photos for your Save the Dates or Guest Book. Plan on your shoot being early in the morning (at least one hour after sunrise), or late afternoon (at least one hour before sunset). Those are truly the most beautiful times of day for portraits of any kind.

What can we expect from the engagement session?

The engagement session is about me getting to know you as a couple and you getting to know me as your photographer. We’ll get to talking, have fun and get to know each other better all while taking pretty pictures. My goal at the end of the session is to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera and feel comfortable with me as the person by your side on your wedding day.

Must we book you as our wedding photographer in order to have the engagement session?

Not at all - I’m happy to shoot your engagement session even if you decide to use someone different on your wedding day.

Where will the session take place?

I have a few locations I enjoy shooting which I can recommend to you, but love it when couples suggest their favorite location – like where you went on your first date, had your first kiss, or where he popped the question. It definitely brings a new level of intimacy to the photos.

What should I wear?

It’s all about your personal style, but don’t hesitate to really kick it up a notch. You’re making an investment in this session and it’s your time to shine! For truly editorial type images careful consideration to your wardrobe is absolutely necessary. Show your personality by adding your favorite accessories. A sexy wrap dress or flirty sundress are great ideas. Heels are a girl’s best friend! And if you’re really daring, whip out that sequined cocktail dress you only got to wear once. I’ll love you for it! Bold, happy colors that compliment your skin are without a doubt the way to go. Stay away from clothing with large logos, or busy print. And for the guys, if your lovely lady steps out in heels and cocktail dress, you might want to pair that with a nice button up or blazer – that look will certainly do the trick. Do bring at least two outfits, as long as there is time during our session, I would love to give you different options. I've styled dozens of shoots over the years, for both my own model portfolio and for others. I'm happy to make suggestions, if you need any help!

What about hair and makeup?

I strongly recommend professional hair and makeup for your session. Especially professional makeup! As I mentioned before, this is an investment in photos you’ll look at and share for years to come. Professionally done makeup looks magical on camera. The pros know which colors compliment certain skin tones, which shades of makeup work best on camera and the tricks to accentuate your best features. I promise you won’t regret being dolled up. Go extra crazy – try false eyelashes!! Of course, if you decide a makeup artist is not for you, that's perfectly fine too. Its possible to get a mini makeover at a cosmetics counter in a department store if you purchase an item or two - This will look just as fab! As for hair, making a trip to your favorite salon the morning of usually does the trick. For the guys, if its time for a haircut, I recommend getting it done one week before the session. And if you want the clean shaved look – do it the morning of, and be very careful !
Extra Tip - prep your hands and nails for closeups - fresh manicure for the girls, and trimmed clean nails for the guys.

I’m nervous! I have no idea what to do or how to pose.  

Being nervous is natural – but please don’t worry too much. Once you’re all dolled up, hair and makeup styled, beautiful outfit and handsome man by your side, the rest will fall into place. You will radiate confidence! I will put you in great light and you give lots of direction. My 5+ years in the fashion industry as a plus size model will work to your advantage here, ladies. I love posing and getting you to work your curves! Get ready for lots of snuggling, lots of smooching, a few of my corny jokes and most importantly get ready to tap into your inner GQ/Supermodel!

According to answers.com - "On Wednesdays all over the internet, bloggers post a photograph with no words to explain it on their blog. Hence the ‘wordless’ title. The idea is that the photo itself says so much that it doesn’t need any description."

So, every Wednesday, I will blog one image I’ve taken. I'm not going to limit myself here. I may post a picture of just about anything - not sure really, but I’m looking forward to sharing with you!

Frost Bite & Inspiration in Central Park - New York, NY Wedding & Engagement Photographer

Just this Sunday, I had the opportunity to work as an assistant for Ceci B, Long Island wedding photographer who specializes in Bridal Boudoir. I will be shooting with Ceci this Spring as the second photographer for a wedding taking place at the historic Oheka Castle! I'm insanely excited about the opportunity. I'm shooting a Wedding in a CASTLE!!!! Its going to be an amazing day -- I. Can. Not. Wait.

I had a great time getting to know Ceci - talking life, business and photography. It really is refreshing to be able to learn from and teach another photographer - Share ideas over lunch, bounce inspiration off one another and basically create a support group. We both walked away that day having learned new things, eager for Spring's arrival to be able to fully execute our visions and passions.

This time around, I got to help with an engagement session, maternity session and basic headshot session in Central Park. I don't have to tell you how cold it was on Sunday. It was quite the disappointment after having such gorgeous weather on Friday. Mother Nature is such a tease!! The clients were troopers about it, though. I have to admit, I'm quite the sissy when it comes to working in harsh weather conditions. I must have had 12 layers on, shivering, teeth chattering, frostbit fingers and all. I even had wind burned cheeks at the end of the day. The oh-so-brave clients however, were pulling off their coats to get the best shot possible. I was VERY impressed.

Between lugging equipment, holding coats, and aiming reflectors, I got to take a few frames during the engagement session. I'm excited to be able to share a favorite of the cute fun couple. Although its not their wedding I'll be shooting this Spring, I'm very happy I got to meet them and wish these two all the best! Can you tell its 19 degrees out??

Hello Lovelies!

As I plan my own 2011 wedding, I spend dozens of hours online looking for inspiration, tips, ideas and advice. If you're anything like me, massive wedding websites like TheKnot can do more harm than good in your quest for wedding knowledge. There's a lot going on there - too much perhaps. When you sign up, create an account and enter your wedding date, they calculate just how many days you have left 'till the wedding. The only thing that little count down clock does is remind me of all the stuff I didn't get around to doing! Can you say, "Un-neccsary Stress"?!?! About 10 minutes surfing TheKnot and I break a sweat. Stick a fork in me - I'm done. Thankfully through my own intensive searching, (as well as helpful tips from others) I've come across several very wonderfully fun websites which I would love to share with you here (For the Brides)!

1. www.google.com/weddings - Google for Weddings! At some point, we all need to make a wedding website. We're in 2011 for cryin' out loud - You need a website! Its just So. Darn. Cute. Not sure when, where or how to start one? Not to worry, Google keeps it simple. Google Weddings also helps you organize your guest list, seating chart, music list and address book - Ummm, what are you waiting for? Click the link.

2. www.thebrokeassbride.com - If the name alone isn't enough for you to check this link, lets keep it real here. As much as we'd all love to have an infinity budget to plan our dream wedding, the simple truth is - we have a budget. The lovely ladies at brokeassbride do an excellent job of showing us creative and budget friendly ideas to keep the fabulosity in our pocket pinched wedding planning.

3. www.stylemepretty.com - This wedding blog is oozing uber amounts of wedding inspiration. They have a section called "Real Weddings". If anything, please check it out for the romantic stories and pretty pictures. You will find inspiration here.

4. www.tenthousandonly.blogspot.com - *A MUST READ* This was the first wedding blog I stumbled upon the day after he proposed. I was glued. This blog documents a determined brides two year journey and her goal to spend not a penny more than $10,000 on her dream wedding. Unfortunately, she doesn't update this blog anymore (she is now married and yes you find out at the end if its possible) - Start from the very beginning, re-live her journey and find out if she meets her goal.

5. www.ariadress.com - OK, I don't have to tell you that NO two women have the same curves. Some dresses flatter you and look dreadful on me, and vice versa. Don't make your bridesmaids wear the same dress if the dress only looks good on a size 2 mannequin. 9. http://www.colormemarried.com/ - I LOVE colors. Colors can change your mood with one glance. One of the most fun parts of planning your wedding is picking your color scheme! Color Me Married provides color-coordinated shopping suggestions and schemes based on your wedding colors. Give it a try!

10. 50 Wedding Photos Can't Do Without via (www.theknot.com) - If you're the type of bride that wants the entire story, right down the to tiniest detail of the day captured then this is a must see article from The Knot - I know I said they're overwhelming sometimes, but this article in particular is SO dead on for me I just had to share with you. 50 examples of simple, beautiful yet powerful images that will keep the memories fresh in your mind for years to come. I LIVE for images like this both in terms of my photography style and in regards to my own wedding. So, please read and educated yourself on the type of photos you want on your big day. Knowing what you want in advance really helps your process in choosing your wedding photographer!

11. http://www.davidsbridal.com/ - If you're a bride that cringes at the thought of stepping foot in a David's Bridal, I have some news for you. Vera Wang has dropped a fabulos line at David's Bridal this month - And these dresses are to DIE for!! I feel that David's Bridal truly has a strong collection of offerings these days - Gorgeous gowns in a variety of sizes, styles, colors and price ranges. Its seems there is something for everyone here. Speaking from personal experience, I was very surprised with the quality of service I recieved when shopping recently. I advise you to at least take a look around because you might be pleased with what you see!

A First Look

Traditionally speaking, most couples know the customary rule that the bride and groom shouldn’t see each other at all until the moment she’s walking down the isle. Some would even consider doing so is bad luck. I’m all for tradition, but breaking the rules can be worth it sometimes. I want to share an option with you that you may have never considered before -- A First Look

What is a First Look?
An opportunity to see each other before the ceremony and share those first intimate moments as husband and wife together
(with your photographer shooting away in the distance)

What are the benefits of a First Look?

This will ultimately be one of the few intimate moments you have alone together on your wedding day
This moment is so beautiful and touching, you and your soon to be hubby might shed a tear - you'll never forget that feeling
Bonding beforehand may ease the nervousness you experience just before the ceremony
A First Look makes for a much smoother layout of your day and takes the “rush-rush” element out of photographing your bridal party and family portraits between the ceremony and reception
If you have a late (sunset) ceremony and you don't want your portraits done in the dark, a First look is a great idea
With portraits out of the way early you actually get to enjoy the Cocktail Hour! Mingle with you friends and out of town family
Seeing each other before the ceremony will by no means take away from the moment when your eyes meet at the end of the isle. The two experiences are equally powerful and still very different.

Your Choice

If the first look is something you’re thinking of incorporating into your wedding daytime line, great! If not, that’s great too! I for one feel that there are no rules for creating your perfect wedding day accept for the number one rule I believe every bride should follow:

No two Weddings are the same, so I will always take the time to work with each Bride individually to ensure a 'wedding day timeline' is in place. This helps to make sure your day runs smoothly whether the First Look option is chosen or not.

My Gear - Queens, New York Wedding Photographer

Some of my favorite photographers have dedicated blog post to share what they're shooting with, which I find both helpful and informative. Whether its for weddings, head shots or other shoots, each photographer uses certain tools to get his or her's desired results. Additinoally, almost all photographers have their favorite must have piece of equipment. The more I shoot, the more I understand why certain photographers absolutely need certain pieces of equipment and why they might love one particular piece more than the others. I thought it would be fun to do the same here and share my equipment lineup and favorites with you.

My Gear ...

Nikon D200: This is the first real piece of photography equipment I invested in back in 2008 when I decided it was time to dig in. This Nikon at the time was considered the beginner pro grade camera body - I figured I'd start with this and see where it leads me. This body came with a decent kit lens (18-135 3.5/5.6) and it was just what I needed to get the ball rolling. In the beginning stages this camera made a lot of angry words come out my mouth. It was the most technologically advanced piece of equipment I had ever touched (aside from a computer) and sometimes scary. As I became acquainted with it and learned the general rules of photography, I came to love it. I still have it in my bag and often use it as my play camera or for personal stuff.

Nikon D700: This camera rocks my world! I upgraded to this model March 2010 when I decided I wanted to pursue wedding photography and boy was it just what I needed! What makes this camera worth it, in my opinion, is its impressive ISO capabilities. The D700 has the ability to photograph high quality images in low lighting conditions (ex. a Church ceremony where flash is not allowed or concert photography). It blows every other model before this one out of the water with that very important feature. This camera is a serious MUST have for certain types of photography. I love my D700!!

Nikon 50mm 1.4: This lens was the first lens I purchased in 2009 and used on the D200. I decided to get rid of the kit lens, and invest in some good glass. Isn't it cute?!?! This lens is super sharp, super fast and surprisingly, super budget friendly. The 1.4 f/stop gives this tool the ability to grab available light from anywhere. Even when you think there isn't much light available, it can work if you have this lens. When paired with the D700 the 50mm 1.4 is really more like a secret weapon - really.

Nikon 105mm 2.8: I picked this one up in 2009 as well. This is absolutely my most FAVORITE lens - I can not put enough emphasis on the word favorite. This lens is sharp, fast, and smooth like butter! If you come to me to for your head shots or your portraits, 95% of the time, I will be using this one. I prefer this lens first above the others because this lens will make you pretty-ER. I'm not kidding. It has magical inner workings that flatters all faces. The 105 also has a red "VR" emblem on the body that sands for "Vibration Reduction" - its a special feature that allows photographers to get sharper hand held images with long lenses, in dim light. Its all too technical if you ask me. I'd much prefer the "VR" stood for "Very Rad" because thats what this lens is. Oh, and the BOKEH on this bad boy is bea-U-tiful making this a go to lens for macro work or when you want to shot 'the details' of a beautiful Wedding day.

Nikon 24-70 2.8: I purchased this lens March 2010 when I picked up the D700. I was fighting with myself hard between getting this one or the much more expensive and magnificent 70-200 2.8 VR II. I knew I would need both eventually, but this one fit my budget at the time. So, here she is! I like this lens because of its zoom range. The 24 end is wide enough for big group shots and wide shots inside a Church or venue. The 70 end works great as a portrait lens if needed. And of course, as with any lens, to work with an f/stop of 2.8 is pretty awesome. Its an all 'round multi-purpose lens, really. Aside from it being quite heavy (which I get over pretty quickly because there's nothing wrong with a little arm workout mid-shoot) there isn't anything I don't like about this one.

Nikon SB-900: I prefer to shoot in natural light and rarely use flash during the day. I think natural light is beautiful, and most photographers would agree too, BUT we aren't always able to choose an ideal time of day or location to work in - especially in the Wedding industry. With that in mind I purchased this speedlight at the end of 2009. This little unit packs a lot of punch. The trick with this type of flash is to never point it directly at anyone - that is unless you're going for that deer in headlights look. I strategically bounce or diffuse the light to make it more attractive -- its rather impressive and has definitely come in handy.

So thats it in a nutshell - this is the stuff I work with right now. I tend to rent different things if needed for a specific job or when I want to test a piece of equipment and see if would work with my shooting style. There are definitely things I would LOVE to add to my arsenal, and I will own those one day down the road but for now - This is My Gear and I love 'em all!

I'm staying true to my blogging goals for 2011!

I've decided to start "For the Bride", a category for the brides out there, the ones searching for the right person to photograph their wedding day. I plan to update this section with useful information and tips on how to get the most out of your wedding photography. I know how important it is to find just the right person for the job. Not only will you worry about what they can offer you as a professional, you'll also worry about your personal experience and interaction with the person you choose for the job. Both are equally important. The photographer is one of the first vendors you establish a working relationship with, and will ultimately be the last person you work with when your wedding day is long over. Will this person deliver the quality of photos they promised? Can you trust this person? Will they have your best interest at heart? Will your personalities mix well or clash? As a bride these are truly important things to consider when selecting your photographer - so in this section of the blog, I'll do my best to lay it all out there. What makes this section extra special is that as I prepare to walk down the aisle myself later this year (Fall 2011), I'll be able to share my insight as a bride with a photographer's perspective and a photographer with a bride's prospective.

Second blog post for this week. Hollaaaaa!

I feel like I’m on a roll or something. I better save some of the things in my head I want to talk about and spread them out over the next few weeks or I'll surly run out of stuff to write about. I want you to know that focusing on this post has actually caused me to burn dinner. Blogging is intense!

Some of you may or may not know that I’m absolutely obsessed with Jasmine Star - and what wedding photographer isn’t? – I mean ...

1. We share the same first name

and

2. She is THE GURU of contemporary Wedding Photography!

Seriously. She has risen to the top of the wedding photography totem pole in only 5 years – literally changed the wedding game as we know it. She left her scholarship at UCLA Law to pursue her photography passion. Who does that!? AND kicks butt at it?? Whenever I read her blog or listen to her speak I’m in a trance. Her words are worth more than gold. Every wedding photographer wants to be where she is and more importantly wants to know HOW she made it happen. Bottom line – J* was so focused, so passionate and so determined to make her dream a reality that nothing would get in her way. She never ever says, “it was easy”, but she always assures us ‘IT’ is possible.

Back in October I purchased the Wedding Photography Course with Jasmine Star on CreativeLive and boy was it was well worth the investment – over 10 hours of live wedding photography footage, image processing, brand development and Q&A up close and personal with J*! I watch these courses religiously every free minute I get. She’s like IN MY LIVINGROOM whenever I want! Into the first few hours of the CreativeLive course J* ask her students to describe their photography style in three words. According to J* your three words are essential to truly defining your photography style and I think it makes total sense. Her Mantra: Always go into your shoot with your three words in mind and try to create images based on your three words. Be true to your three words and you will always captivate your audience - your future clients. This is the foundation of your “BRAND”.

Hmm. This is serious - I thought about it for some time, but nothing really came to mind. Trying to figure it out was actually a lot harder than I thought so I didn't try to force it. A few months went by and then BAM! Just like that it came to me a few nights ago while I literally lay in bed.

Simple.

Elegant.

Chic.

When I shoot, I pour my heart and soul into my images. My creative vision is ingrained in EACH frame I take – from camera to print. I want to provide all my clients with amazing photos they’ll love forever – natural, stylish, beautiful pictures. I want my clients to think they could never ever look this good. Their photos are beautiful AND they look exactly like THEMSELVES. This is the foundation for MY brand.
